2241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tipped Bill Gates on twitter - lets hope we get his attention on: December 12, 2014, 06:04:43 AM
Lol...pretty cool... any way to confirm whether he has receive or claim your tip? I bet he's gonna reciprocate 1000 times the amount. Grin
2242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Call for action - Tell Amazon what we want! on: December 12, 2014, 06:00:13 AM
It seems more like an automated copy and paste reply which they use back the same to everybody requesting for bitcoin to be accepted. But never mind. If the "testing the water" approach by microsoft does go through, we should start seeing widescale adoption without us asking them to....
2243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins are amazing for BITCOIN!!! on: December 12, 2014, 05:54:06 AM
Altcoins are the one giving bitcoins the bad press. Seriously until now i don't see any of the alts matching anything on what bitcoin has to offer other than mere pump and dump. It's time bitcoin regain control. Need to tell people clearly bitcoin is the true crypto.
2244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Jumps with Microsoft News. [image for sharing] on: December 12, 2014, 05:50:10 AM
Seriously this is big. You could say the microsoft adoption by all means is just testing the water but if this really goes through, it's definitely a giant step forward for bitcoin. Expecting further price jump.
2245  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Empty wallet after restoring from seed on: December 07, 2014, 02:41:31 PM
One way out I could think out of this is by having the program installer for the old version. Get a completely new machine and install old version of electrum on that machine. Use the seed to recover your account on that machine installed with old version of electrum

Anyway, as advised by other users, regardless of version, the same seed would point to the same address. Or is there a change on how the python script itself and how they generate address.... The best person to answer this would be Thomas.
2246  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Please help password invalid now and works hours before fine on: December 07, 2014, 02:25:51 PM
If you forgot your password that is okay. But you must have your seed with you. I hope you have that

Just go to YourComputerName > AppData > Roaming > Electrum

Cut and transfer all the files contained in that folder to another separate folder

Restart Electrum. They will prompt you to input your seed. When prompt to enter new password, just press cancel. You should have full access to your account now.

Hope that helps

2247  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where did Blockchain.info go?!!! on: December 07, 2014, 02:16:31 PM
blockchain.info's wallet service is still operational:
https://blockchain.info/wallet

I'm not sure why it was taken off of bitcoin.org. That page appears to have been recently updated, maybe it was removed by mistake.

Yeah, if not for this thread I would not have noticed it has been removed from bitcoin.org. It suspect it could be due to the security concerns that took place recently about weeks ago. Also I can see that there are new wallet additions as well like for instance mSIGNA. Oh, my it has been some time since I last been to that site so it's good to see new changes.
2248  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC to Bank? on: December 07, 2014, 02:04:58 PM
By Payza, but your Payza account must be verified, so you must send passport and utility bill to Payza. Then send BTC to Payza and then USD/EUR to your bank account.

the withdrawal feature from payza to your btc account is great and recently they have also added the option to load your payza account by selling bitcoin so it's two-way option now. Good alternative to conbase. If only paypal make all these options available just like what payza is doing. I just wonder when it will be made possible.
2249  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin too volatile? on: December 07, 2014, 06:55:44 AM
The problem is the small market cap. Every sale of a Bitcoin whale (I mean four digit amounts of Bitcoins) ends in a dicrease of the price + panic sales etc. If we'd have a stable fundament we wouldn't have such a high variability and volatility...
As of now, I would like to treat it as an alternative currency where you can save on the fees, plus it is also readily available online. Although the usage might be limited on what you can do or purchase using it but certainly things are improving. On the question whether it will fully replace dollar someday remains a big question mark and seriously the volatility issue need to be sorted out first as this will be the major factor that pose a huddle or barrier towards mass bitcoin adoption.
2250  Economy / Economics / Re: If a cryptocurrency were to replace a fiat national currency... on: December 07, 2014, 06:47:52 AM
...what changes would need to be made?

Cryptocurrencies are terribly unstable and volatile, how would this be addressed?
What other barriers may need addressing?

Technically I don't how that could be made possible. currency of a nation is tied up to the state of economy, natural resources, political stability and things like that. if based on crypto concept where everyone could mine and own a portion or a share of a country, what would that mean? If a country is at civil war or experiencing trade deficit or in a state whereby the natural resources have completely depleted, would that value get reflected in the crypto coin??? Certain concept of distribution has to be worked out but definitely not POW
2251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many of you consolidate your bitcoins? on: December 07, 2014, 06:26:46 AM
Well I'm definitely one of them. Also considered a freak. Why I say that is because I usually make it a routine (better word compulsory) to transfer between addresses and usually I try to keep the transaction size small (<1000kb) by having three transactions max received per address. Also this is done by waiting for the transactions to age (usually about 1 week) before I can transfer for low fee or sometime for zero fee and then consolidate to combine into a single output.

Any of you guys do that or you will just leave it there?

What is the advantage of keeping the transaction size of a smaller value?

If you constantly spend your bitcoin and you don't use change address, each output that doesn't consume the whole coin will leave dust amount. Eventually these will cost you more the next time you decide to use it as the tx size kb will increase.
2252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A threat to Wall Street on: December 07, 2014, 06:17:21 AM
Sometimes I just wonder whether they should stay away for the good of bitcoin. If they can mess up fiat just like what has been done right now, it can still happen the same with bitcoin, even though you might argue crypto coins work different. Eventually for these Wall Street, the only thing that matters is filling money into their pocket. Nothing else....
2253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't Mining Economically Retarded? on: December 07, 2014, 06:15:23 AM
1. If a miner was more profitable than the price payed, wouldn't the mining companies use them instead of selling them?
Mining *has* to be profitable or nobody would mine. You still need to covert to fiat to cover operation cost like paying for electricity where they only accept fiat. When the miner needs to eat food, not all eateries or restaurants accept bitcoin. The portion that he keeps will be betting on future price increase.

2. If a cloud miner was more profitable than the price payed, wouldn't the mining companies use them instead of renting them?
Ok now for this, it depends on how you look at it. selling cloud mining actually works more like betting on the future of bitcoin and take your gamble against difficulty changes and other scenario like for example mining yields getting higher due to other pools of miner exiting.

2254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next generation Instant Messaging is coming, empowered by Bitcoin & Gems on: December 07, 2014, 05:53:14 AM
I agree on there part saying Bitcoin so far has failed to appeal and capture attention of the female target group where you can expect big spenders from there. Imagine if there were stores that cater solely for this purpose for them to spend for shopping items like cosmetic, clothes, accessories paid only in bitcoin. Also it's a good direction embarking on integration into social networks which will definitely bring about positive changes.
2255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I earn BTC when people visit my website on: December 06, 2014, 10:55:29 AM
Three options which I can think of:
1) put up a compelling content and then have your btc donation address made available
2) set up some other advertising campaign like adsense pay per click or by using affiliates to earn some bucks from sales of products. Use that money to convert to btc
3) you could also approach some of the btc exchangers and offer to product the website link on yours. Get them to pay in btc
2256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Android Wallet? on: December 06, 2014, 10:45:46 AM
Mycelium is still the best in terms of security, speed and ease of use, plus I also like the name given. Next choice would be "bitcoin wallet" which was used to be great but after the upgrade there were some issues. You just have to try it out to realize the advantage each wallet has over the other.
2257  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think 1.00 BTC will worth more than $10,000.00 USD at any time in 2015? on: December 06, 2014, 10:33:49 AM
Well good thing is that after the having found the support level at $300, price has been steadily rising. Another good news is that price has also maintained steady after the huge bitcoin auction which didn't rattle the  price like what happened last round in Jun. Hopefully it maintains that way but just to be realistic, I'm looking at something like $800 by end of next year.
2258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guys.. I just love Bitcoin so much.. on: December 06, 2014, 10:20:47 AM
1000btc??!!?? So you must be super rich with all the stash of bitcoin that you accumulated  Grin
Gosh, I always wonder why I came in so late to the party. My interest in bitcoin only started this year and if only I could at least backtrack to at least year before that I discovered bitcon.... things would have been different.
2259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Eric Cartman and bitcoins on: December 06, 2014, 10:16:30 AM
It would be great to see Cartman after having made millions, would then take all the chance to triple or even quadruple his wealth by bitcoins. Alternative and far better happy ending  Grin
Hope to see them mentioning bitcoin name in the cartoon someday
2260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes our job so hard to spread awareness on: December 06, 2014, 10:10:50 AM
Can't blame him for that. I used to have all the reserved or would say negative feeling about a virtual currency created out of nothing and then having a value. But after I understand the concept and technology behind it, my thinking has start to change.

Well I would say finally it's still up to him to realize. You have done your best  Wink
