There have been so many cases of suspected merit abuse reported in various threads over the years that I'd bet it's well over 100. I'm sure it would be more than that were it not for the fact that Theymos told the community not to make a big deal about it--but either way, if the community wants to start tagging merit abusers with enough evidence against them, I sure as hell would be fine with it and if the forum detectives start looking closely enough I've no doubt this thread would end up with 1000 pages within a year.
What theymos said is that if someone negative tagged someone else for things concerning merit other than buying merit they were not going to be in DT for long. I'm speaking from memory but I'm sure he said something like that. I imagine someone with a facility for finding quotes like LoyceV can provide the quote here. So anything that isn't merit buying and selling, he doesn't see as a big deal. Perhaps you mean these words left by theymos. If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.

I still struggle quoting posts from locked topics, I have no idea how to do this. I tried to organize it for a better aesthetic but I do not think there is much more I can do
You can install the BPIP extension on your browser to do this. it would be easier to quote from a locked post or thread. after you install the extension, make sure you enable some menus. you can see the picture. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224821sorry OP, this seems off topic. but I'm just trying to help him. In addition, there is a way to quote private messages without adding various extensions. I think that PrivacyG is quite skeptical about different kinds of extensions, since I kind of read that he prefers complete anonymity and privacy. Therefore, if you use the method from o_e_l_e_o, you can quote posts without installing extensions. It's still do-able with a minor work around which will take less than 20 seconds or so.
1) Navigate to the post you want to quote and click on its title. The page will reload with that post's message number in the URL (the last 8 digits). Copy these digits, but don't close this window yet.
2) In the thread you want to post the quoted message in, click on "quote" on any post. Once that reply page loads, paste your copied 8 digits over the 8 digits in the URL after "quote=". Hit enter to reload your reply page with the locked post quoted.
3) Go back to the window from step 1 containing the message you want to quote. Copy the 7 digits after "topic=". Go back to the window from step 2 containing your new reply, and paste these 7 digits over the 7 digits after "link=topic=" on the top line of your reply. This is to ensure the quote links back to the correct thread if someone clicks on it.
sorry OP ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Hello everyone Being in this forum and reading through the various conversations there made me very happy.
Yeah, OP, you were so happy you didn't read the forum rules. I think it will be a big surprise to you to know that plagiarism is heavily frowned upon on the forum, just like spam. Therefore, if the moderators take pity on you as a newbie, first run to read the rules, because newcomers have only one chance to stay on the forum. Although copying, you were very resourceful ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) . Don't try to be what you are not.

Are forum videos still being made on YouTube? I remember these viral videos being very popular five or six years ago. And even what OcTradim has shown is from the days of bounty hunting and rampant cheating. But today, OP, you can get some earnings, but you have to work hard for that. With the rank of beginner and the pressure to come here to "make money," you're in for a big disappointment. But I see a few posts about trading; maybe you should try to write on this topic if you have experience.

OP, you came up with the idea yourself, so to give that idea some credibility, you might be the first to give a charitable gift. Let's start with your example. Please tell us where and who you assisted. It is straightforward to speak beautifully and nobly; the main thing is that words do not diverge from deeds. But as far as charity is concerned, and since the Christmas holidays are related to religion, then do as religion tells you. "When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret." Charity should always be generous but quiet. The one who does good deeds and understands for whom he does them is always modest. Therefore, OP, if there is a desire to help someone, no one will forbid you here; I think many do this.

If we talk about how people get to this or that place, then surely everyone has a reason. If you become interested in bitcoin and you register on this forum, you have already done quite a lot. Then do what most people do when they arrive in a strange place. You just need to look around. Start reading; do not rush to create topics with questions. Most likely, if you use the search, you can find everything yourself. Do not show yourself as a person who must always be led by the hand. The one who has a zeal for knowledge and who considers himself an adult and not a helpless child always achieves more.

It is unlikely that you will receive a hundred dollars from a bounty company. I see your commitment to this activity. But I know that on freelance sites today, many different offers are paid in bitcoin. If you have the skills of a translator or know how to write articles correctly, you can offer yourself there. In the same way, some sites offer to test games that, after the test, are also paid in bitcoin. But here, you need to undergo training to competently look for errors. Therefore, in our time, finding additional income is not a problem; the problem is the lack of skills people have.

Wherever can get quick merit, there will always be cheaters. But as far as reports are concerned, it's just a matter of how long does it take to submit a report to the moderators? If someone carefully reads the posts or the whole topic, then low-quality posts or other violations of the rules will be visible. It takes seconds to file a violation report, the one who does not, shows that either he does not read other posts, or all posts look normal to him. For example, a big post from a beginner, who just yesterday said that he knows nothing, and today he is already teaching lessons, hints to double-check it once again. For those who report this, it is comparable to the cleanliness of their home, and I do not think that motivating someone with additional merit will be a reason for others to feel the same way, but only to create additional work for the moderators. If we have bounty hunters, then there will be spam merit hunters. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

Using a hardware wallet can be compared to convenience. People have different attitudes toward different kinds of amenities. Someone prefers to sleep on a hard mattress, knowing full well that there are good beds. Someone drives an old car or eats food that has expired. Anyone who values their health will never allow this. By saying the phrase "I can do without it," people show how they do not love themselves. Namely, this is what says that those who use improved methods of storing bitcoin, namely hardware wallets, understand both the value of their deposits and the value of bitcoin itself. But life very often teaches people lessons, after which saving and a careless attitude towards oneself become unacceptable factors in one's existence.

Stop thinking about millionaires. They will survive under any conditions. The privilege of bitcoin is that it can be useful to poor people. Yes, of course, not everyone has the opportunity to buy as much as they would like. But there is a motivation for education and a motivation for action. Poor people can have hope for a better life by learning how to deal with bitcoin and investing a small amount. At least, I want to believe it, given how hard the members of this forum are promoting bitcoin in their society.

A similar thing happened to me recently, as dkbit98 describes. Suddenly something happened, and my laptop refused to turn on the next day. I don't store anything important on my laptop, everything important is archived elsewhere. However, the laptop just died. Repair and give it into the wrong hands, I did not It was a working machine for 5 years, but I knew that one day something could go wrong. I ended up buying a new one. Similarly, USB devices and your laptop, which is not currently active, may experience an unexpected failure. Therefore, I would advise not to trust only one device but to make a number of copies that cannot age overtime at the same time, like paper, or simply break.

Dude, you are a good dreamer. A millionaire who participates in most bounty companies. Does it happen? Or are you a millionaire desperate for merit because the bounty conditions will not allow you to participate because there is no merit? And the millionaire has no money to buy a copper member. ![Angry](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/angry.gif) However, your fantasies about your uncle and the contributions that you forced him to make have a lot of substance. You cannot confidently guarantee a profit, and the considerable amount your uncle gave you can turn into nothing if you do not know how to store it. As you expressed in earlier posts, you don't need a good wallet. Come up with another topic to earn merit.

It’s very interesting to me: are there people among those present here who have ever received any amount from strangers just like that? It's quite simple like that. The stranger asked for some small service and, in return, promised a large profit. For some reason, even with such numerous answers, it seems to me that free money is not available to anyone. Or rather, money always has a price, but the one who expects to get it very easily pays for it out of his own pocket and gets a very unpleasant experience. So why do people go for it? OP, what's wrong with you? Were you at the time of the transfer of money in some kind of disorder, drunk, on drugs, or under hypnosis? Where was your mind at that moment?

Welcome to the forum. If you want to keep up with the times, then the forum will be a good ally for this. Start learning about bitcoin. Knowledge builds confidence in the future. Don't stop improving yourself, even if you think you're already well-educated. Ask, read, and learn how to use the search. This will make your journey through the forum easier. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5276341.0

OP, it would be fair for you to include a link to where you got this information from in your post. I see that you told it in your own words; however, when referring to someone else's opinion, to prove other people's words, there should always be a link. But as far as predictions go, I don't know a single person who possesses a crystal ball. Whether an event has come true or not, it gives no reason to have confidence in the forecasts of any person, even if he is an experienced investor. I know many stories when experienced people changed their estimates over time.

There's no doubt that the future of bitcoin is great but with the intervention of companies, exchanges, and the government, they're doing things that are against the principle of bitcoin. We can't do anything with that but hopefully, someday, we won't be relying on these exchanges to have our bitcoins exchanged into another currency that we have. Without having the need to comply with the KYC and stuff. Because that's what we don't like with these exchanges.
You are free to do so today. Bitcoin does not force you to register on centralized exchanges; you can also still live by the principles that Satoshi preached. Use P2P exchanges and decentralized exchanges. People themselves, yielding to regulators, create more barriers to widespread adoption. We simply go along with those who want to spy on us, interfere, and dictate their terms.

I tried to access the link you provided but when I tried to download it redirect me to the restoration page where you can put a 12-word seed and password. Why would multibit ask for a seed phrase and password? I tried to put the seed phrase and password but when trying to click download nothings happen so how did you download the malware?
And look it's obvious it's fake because it asks for a seed phrase and password in an unsecured way.
Maybe he created a new wallet. The download starts if you register a new account, but the file itself does not give out a virus, although I only checked it through the https://www.virustotal.com/. OP, Windows, the Firewall, and Avast do not guarantee you complete security. In addition, do not think that your text document did not get to the scammers; maybe you still have a long way to go. Everything related to cryptocurrency should not be rushed. In a hurry, you are distracted by other things, not caring at all that your data may be subject to attacks. The lessons we get are very expensive, but it's good if you understand this.
