I like the idea, but I won't join if it's in the USA. I'd rather not live in a police state. Especially since we'll be provoking them by sticking it to their Central Bank
2302  Other / Off-topic / Re: A strike against PayPal has started - #OpPaypal on: July 27, 2011, 06:42:11 PM
Apparently the boycott is serious enough that PayPal suspended online account cancellations. Now you have to call the and beg them to close it.
2303  Other / Off-topic / Re: A strike against PayPal has started - #OpPaypal on: July 27, 2011, 03:45:04 PM
What a joke!

Obviously the 12 year olds at Anon haven't looked at the sheer size of the Paypal customer base which easily exceeds 150 Million world wide.

Paypal suspends and/ or cancels as much as 0.5% every single day. That equals 750,000 suspended or cancelled accounts every 24 hours. They add 0.6 to 0.8% everyday.

Those 20,000 self terminated accounts aren't even noticeable.

~BCX~

You don't get it. It's not about those 20k or whatever number it is hurting PayPal. It's people showing their displeasure and willingness to inconvenience themselves in-order to stick it to them. When a viable alternative comes along (eg bitcoin being mature enough) their house of cards will collapse faster than you can say #oppaypal

The writing is on the wall.
2304  Other / Politics & Society / #oppaypal on: July 27, 2011, 03:20:36 PM
Have you guys heard of the DBoS (Distributed Boycott of Service) against PayPal today?

http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23oppaypal

Thousands (me included) closed their PayPal accounts. Rumours say 20,000+ accounts have been closed. If you still have a PayPal acc I urge you to give them the finger and close your account. #oppaypal was the #2 trending topic worldwide until a few minutes ago (typical twitter censorship)

It doesn't necessarily prove causation but Ebay stock was down 3% within a half hour of the markets opening.

EDIT: Twitter finally grew a pair and uncensored #oppaypal after a huge backlash

How do I post an image? I'd like to post a screenshot

If you're leaving the US for this purpose, don't forget to renounce your citizenship too.

That's actually pretty hard to do.

Mike Gogulski, who's on here somewhere, did just that. He's now Stateless. He detailed it on his blog, and yeah, it was not fun.

What happened to him? Where does he live?

I agree with BioMike that references would help, eps to the Al Qaeda thing. Otherwise I approve this message.

You say more money in circulation is more money full stop, no?

Particularly when that money is still, technically, in my bank account, as well.

I deposit $1.00. The bank loans out $0.50 of it, but I still have that dollar in my account. That's $1.50.

You don't need a degree in economics to see that they're mucking about with the finances.

When they loan out 50¢ that isn't there anymore. Your account balance might show you one dollar but it's not money. It's what the bank owes to you, if they have it. There is still only 1 dollar.

I think we have the same understanding, just a different take on terminology.

What I'm wondering is if the commercial banks can get away with adding new electronic money. Maybe the commercial banks have a deal with government to create new money behind the scenes. Maybe there is too much risk of such a scam being revealed so maybe not.

I think the key is even though the $1 is just a debt the bank owes you, you can spend it as if it were money. All those bank transfers to BTC exchanges are just monopoly money  Grin

That just invalidated your theory that the making of crap is easily stopped by people not buying crap.

No it didn't. Stop buying crap and people will stop making it. The fact you're too lazy or unintelligent to stop buying it doesn't invalidate that theory at all. Get a new job. Start a business. Start walking. Telecommute. There are a myriad of options but even if there weren't, nobody owes you anything. Curl up and die if that's your only option. You won't be missed.

A-men.

This article should have been titled Moronics 101.  I've wrote much on the same topic to which Henry Hazlitt argues in the same vein of.

2312  Economy / Economics / Re: American Foreign Dept ceiling on: July 25, 2011, 09:25:08 AM
Hi

I would like to know more about the American Foreign Dept and it consequences and time table

How much is the Dept?

Is there going to be more borrowing and when?

What is this Dept ceiling that they are trying to raise..?

New Comer to Economics..

Best advice I can give you is IGNORE ALL THE CRAP THEY SAY ON TV! It's all political theater to fool the masses. You'd do well to follow the advice of economists who actually predicted this mess. People like Peter Schiff & Jim Rogers.
2313  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your Economic Recovery Program on: July 25, 2011, 09:07:39 AM
Since we are still in a Global Economic World Wide Depression I'm wondering what the general consensus is out there regarding:

1) What caused it (primarily)
2) What is your plan to get out of it (includes any laws or programs you would add or repeal)

I'll post my program after I put some finishing touches on it.

Fractional Reserve Banking is the main culprit IMO, together with assorted laws like legal tender and such. They have enabled the US & other govts to drown themselves in debt. You cannot fix anything without abolishing this system. It is designed to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few and this will continue no matter what policies are implemented. Millions may die due to the ensuing political and economic chaos, but this is largely unavoidable. You simply cannot run an entire planet on a flawed monetary system for decades and expect to fix things without pain.

i think lulzsec is playing with fire. thier antics were cute and funny at first, but i think they are paving the way for an internet crackdown...i think they will be propped up as examples of why the government should censor the internet.

as for how itll affect btc, who knows? on one hand, its decent publicity...on the other, it may encourage a crackdown on btc...

I read an article recently that was arguing against the notion that Anonymous & LulzSec should be condemned because govt will use it as a pre-text for a more draconian internet. I think it was on Lewrockwell.com. I'll post it when I find it.

please do

Can't find it. it was pretty good though. The crux of the argument was that the govt is gonna screw us no matter what, so should we take the ass raping lying down or fight even if you may lose either way. I choose to fight.

2318  Economy / Economics / Re: Early Adopters Disadvantaged on: July 24, 2011, 09:09:44 AM
I'm sorry, but the early early adopters didn't risk much of anything, at 50 cents a BTC you could buy like 100 BTC for like 50 bucks, which is... not much of a risk to me, hell, that's not a big risk for a 12 year old kid who gets a couple bucks for his birthday

Early adopters (as a group) had to build infrastructure (exchanges, stores, the btc client, services, silk road) in order for the btc price to go up. It didn't just magically go to the current rate while people sat on their coins.
2319  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Tax the rich, eh? on: July 24, 2011, 09:03:56 AM
The whole notion of "Tax the rich" is based on a fallacy. First, one must ask, who are the rich? The rich are the ones who in most all societies hold political power.  Having political power and connections is the easiest way to get and stay rich.

In the USA for example just look at the net worth of senior members of govt who make all the rules:

Barack H. Osama - Net worth $10.5m source

Nancy Pelosi - Net worth $35.2m Source

Harry Reid - Net worth estimated between $3.1 - $6.7 million source

I can go on and on...

After decades of "socially progressive" policies all other the developed world we still see an increasing gap between rich and poor.

I wonder, are people really that stupid to believe this shit? Or is this some kind of sick joke and I'm in the twilight zone?

What will it take for you lefties to realize the plan ain't working?

They auto generate it according to the policies you choose in response to whatever issue your country has. The biker gangs and high crime is because I refuse to allow monopolist thugs to run protection rackets under the guise of 'policing.'

My latest issue:

Quote
The Police department is considering installing surveillance cameras in all major public areas, in an effort to crack down on crime.
The Debate

   1. "This is a blatant invasion of the right to privacy!" says libertarian web site operator Klaus Barry. "Now I can't even go out in public any more without being watched? And you know this is just the beginning. Today there are cameras in city streets. Tomorrow they're peering through your bedroom window."

   2. "Hey, I've got news for you," says Police media liaison Violet Licorish. "When you're out in public, PEOPLE CAN SEE YOU. These cameras will be extremely helpful in reducing the national crime rate. Frankly, I can't see what the fuss is about."

   3. "This 'slippery slope' argument has got me thinking," says Police Minister Jean-Paul Barry. "You know, it would be a lot easier to fight crime if we watched people all the time. Not with cameras, of course. That's clearly an invasion of privacy. But how about a national database of our citizens, coupled with compulsory ID cards and barcoding? It would stop crime dead in its tracks."

I'm expecting crime levels to skyrocket as a result of my policies Cheesy
