http://bitscan.com/articles/mystery-bitcoin-game-the-hidden-keys

UPDATE: hints/solutions for clues can be found at http://bitscan.com/articles/mystery-bitcoin-game-the-clues-are-revealed

The address to find the key for is 18iD8nnxmYSDbMBvgfFzE9D7fgUdchpdUD

Update 7/4/14:
"Knowing my uncle's interest in early North American people groups and their languages, I'm guessing that Bridge River Rapids is SETL."

"I'm pretty sure that Roman numerals feature in a few places here, including LIV."

The missing keys
This is a pilot for a new puzzle game. It would be great to get some discussion going over clues and how to improve it.
Answers to clues will be released regularly, until someone guesses the private key and sweeps the prize! If it's successful, future episodes will have larger prizes.

"My uncle was a polymath whose interests encompassed everything from science and maths to ancient languages and chess. In the early stages of bitcoin he became intrigued by the idea of cryptocurrency, and had the foresight to start mining while it was still possible with an ordinary desktop computer. Fanatical about security, he never trusted either hot wallets or cold storage. Instead, he relied on his remarkable memory and simply stored his private keys in his mind.

"When he disappeared, suddenly and without warning at the end of last year, no one knew what to make of it. As the months wore on my family reluctantly came to the conclusion that something had happened to him and he was gone for good. The police were unable to shed any light on it, and since no crime had apparently been committed they told us there was little more they could do. Though I struggled to believe he was dead, this seemed the most likely answer. Nothing in his London flat had been moved, none of his personal effects had been taken. To all appearances he had walked out one day and never returned. The only thing missing was a body...."

you really think there is magical friend? Now he has so much money (because he is always right) so he is looking for other things than money. Glory? Envy? Recognition?
I think he is just joking around for fun or he wants to put the price down (maybe he want to buy low).

Symptoms of pseudologia fantastica (pathological lying):

- The stories told are usually dazzling or fantastical, but never breach the realm of reality. The possibility of truth is key to the pathological liar's survival. They are not a manifestation of delusion or some broader type of psychosis: upon confrontation, the teller can admit them to be untrue, even if unwillingly.

- The stories told tend toward presenting the liar favorably. The liar "decorates their own person" by telling stories that present them as the hero or the victim. For example, the person might be presented as being fantastically brave, knowing or being related to many famous people, or claiming they earn more income than they do.

I think we all know someone in here who fits this.
THIS.

Notice that his symptoms are manifested in his fascination with Cosmopolis, and Supercoin.

Also, I deduced that he is worthless in terms of wealth (and as a human being). For every claim of his wealth, his early postings shows that he is strapped for cash.

I wouldn't mind bumping this thread when Bitcoin goes back up to 2k and beyond.

On the contrary. As of just now, cosmofly is worth precisely one satoshi.
I felt his hard work was worth rewarding, so I paid one into the account he posted on his profile: 1JVg3XoZGmkasMusk2vaMPCNGetMHyEy9V
It was sadly empty, so I can only assume that his vast wealth is sitting on an exchange or in cold storage.
May I invite other people to express their appreciation for our friend through the medium of 0.00000001 btc.
Thank you.

Whats going on in china up 5% in 2 hours?

Because there is no China ban?
Because we went down 100's because of a rumour?
Because people are sheep?

Frenzied trading right up until the moment they pull the plug for good?
2306  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: April 03, 2014, 03:26:48 PM
Boy, how delusional do you have to be to think that Bitcoin will be worth 1.54 million USD per in 3 years. I mean, that's almost reptilia "300k by 2013 Christmas" level of delusion.

Whether it was meant figuratively or literally, or was even just a typo, creating an account just to troll some guy's short-term misfortune reeks of jealousy and is really sad.
2307  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: April 03, 2014, 02:55:23 PM
I will truly be a bitcoin billionaire by the time I am 25 I believe. This house was inherited from my father who passed away a few years ago

So how does it feel to be a dick and to think its that easy to become a billionaire.
Only children think you can become billionaire that easy.

How does it feel to be humiliated ? Just the right consequence of your irresponsible act

Just reported this. What an idiot. You created an account just for that?

Key points of Huobi's announcement:

1. Huobi has checked with their third party payment service providers and banks and was informed that no instruction from PBOC had been received.
2. Huobi will stop all third party payment services on 05-04-2014.
3. Huobi will ramp up its manpower to 7*24 on internet fund transfer. All bank deposits and withdrawals are not affected.

I'm still trying to get my head around the China thing. A while ago Stamp/UK banned deposits via Transferwise and other third parties for AML reasons. It was a pain in the butt as it made things more expensive and awkward, but you could still use a regular bank account.
Is this roughly the same deal (at least for now)?

It is different.

Thanks, that is about as enlightening as a PBOC statement.

Charts mean absolutely nothing.   You can't draw a line past the current date, with any accuracy.  Unless you have a DeLorean with a Flux Capacitor.  Its a meaningless line.

The only thing that matters is adoption levels and commerce numbers.

-B-

When I was a kid, back in the 1980s, I figured that when I grew up I'd get a DeLorean.
If Wall Street do pile in and push the price up by a couple of orders of magnitude (which seems too good to be true, so I'm not holding my breath) I'm going to buy one.
Short term it does look like increasing merchant adoption ahead of consumer adoption is going to push the price down more. Great article by Vinny from Gyft about that.
Still a little bit annoyed that next year is 2015 and there's no sign of hoverboards yet, though.

That's not a bad thing though - the merchants going first, not the mass public, or no hoverboards - seems like a cart/horse issue...the people won't come until the support structures are there, the supply is ready for the demand. If you're going for a quick buck then the long wait time is probably not appealing but if you believe in bitcoin's future and potential as a game changer and see how pervasive it'll be, then it's a long term developing gain that will pay off in spades later on...and compared to the cost then, right now is affordable to invest - not as a stock option but in a technology to help it evolve.

Absolutely. The crunch might be bad for speculators but not bitcoin's overall evolution. I'm a lot happier with btc in the $200-400 range (wherever it ends up) than at $1,000, since it better reflects its real value.
Getting the infrastructure right is critical. Then when the killer apps come, along with proper investment, mass-adoption will be easier.

 Oh no! Bitcoin has failed!

Tell that to anyone who has got hit by credit card fraud. Tell that to the people who lost their savings in the bail-in in Cyprus. Tell that to the Argentines whose national currency has devalued 50% in the last 4 years. Tell that to the Phillipino and African migrants whose family's whole income back home is $500 a month, reduced by 8% by western union fees and bad exchange rate. Tell that to the business owners who went out of business because of a 1% difference in margin- while their margin was changed by 2% because of Visa and Mastercard's fraud budget. Tell it to the gold bugs. Tell it to the people making their living on silk road and the dozens of silk road spinoffs. Tell it to the Iranians who are reaching markets with their products they never could before. Tell it to the people who realize that issuing a people's currency is the best way to control a people.

While I think everyone is welcome in the forum, just put your money where your mouth is and sell your coins to someone who has a slight understanding of human nature and the global economy. Oh, you probably don't have any coins to sell do you? You're probably writing this out of the hope that bitcoin will fail to reduce the pain you feel at not having participated in the movement a couple years ago...

As I understand it posts like these are a part of every capitulation. We just need to see prices stabilize to the point where all of the people on the sidelines decide they don't want to miss the boat again. There are hordes of people waiting to see if it's going to crash, and as understanding of bitcoin spreads along with smartphones, I think we will see in retrospect that we are not even in the steep part of the "s" curve yet.

Dude. This. Except for the s-curve bit, which seems likely but I haven't figured for certain yet.

2314  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Cosmopolis] Prepare for Bitcoin $266 Retest on: April 01, 2014, 06:20:23 PM
Well, this is a lesson for me: do not trust the posters on this forum. Fortunately I didn't sell during the low, and looked at previous events. Bitcoin still got too much life in it to die suddenly.

But yea, well done Cosmo. You couldn't have been more wrong. This is why I never predict the price of something, let alone Bitcoin.

Are you seriously saying you took this 'advice' at face value?
There are some extremely good technical analysts on this forum. Cosmofly is not one of them. He is a known troll with a track record of ridiculous 'predictions' and a load of other crap. You could have got that from reading the thread.
You'll get to know the people you can gain useful information from. For a start, they won't make wildly over-confident predictions. They'll give you a set of likely scenarios and the reasons for them. They won't try to push you into making a decision one way or another. And they won't feel the need to brag to get others to massage their egos for them.
Take a look at the main Wall thread for some smarter opinions, but take everything with a pinch of salt and don't assume that anyone knows what's actually going to happen.
Especially obvious trolls like cosmofly (and igorr, for that matter).

I'll keep that in mind then. But to speak to my mind regarding 'trust': I tend to trust the posters that look at a situation from multiple angles, but I rarely act according to their posts. I often find it difficult to distinguish the trolls from the real analysts, but you might have made that a bit easier for me.

You'll realise who they are fairly fast. Usually people's responses to them make it pretty clear who's respected and who's not. In cosmo's case, you will also need to dismiss the sycophantic adoration from newbie accounts whose only posts have been to praise his judgment despite everything. No surprise that they are never online at the same time as him...

damn what a dumb move closing that short with peanuts for profit.

That wasn't your problem. You did very well there. The problem was that you didn't have enough coins to short because you didn't load up enough below $450.
On bfx you can use USD as collateral to short. I actually could have shorted about 8 times more than I did.

Didn't know that. I'm still new there. Isn't that like naked short-selling? I mean there still has to be someone willing to lend you the coins in a swap, right?

You had to pay a swap cost, I'm assuming. That means if you had a huge pile of coins, you could lend them out without exchange rate risk. Another benefit of having a big stash. The risk isn't any higher than keeping fiat on the exchange.

You are borrowing btc from other traders. Yes there is a swap cost but the swap cost on btc is negligible compared to the swap cost on usd.  USD runs 0.1%-1% per day while btc runs 0.01% per day or less.

Yes. Shorting is practically free. You can short 300k a day for less than $100.

Not if you get it wrong...

Yes looks like a strong rally brewing one of those no looking back types. Statements from exchanged assuring customers that there is no ban YET is bringing back confidence

Personally I haven't purchased any coins in this downtrend as I already purchased what I considered enough is the last time we hit $400

Hi have read a confirmed report on a 5-hour-old website that PBOC is definitely planning on replacing the Yuan with bitcoin.
This will happen by next month. Reddit confirms it.
Buy now and HODL and you will be a bitcoin billionaire by May.
Could you link your sources? Sounds crazy that china would replace yuan with bitcoin

I got it from 1april.com

It would work, except now, you are making 100 times less coins.  You go figure it out.
I'm telling you, ~$300 is the electricity cost of mining one coin.

Care to back that up?  I only ask because my anecdotal evidence says you're wrong.

I read some other miner saying $100 on a thread yesterday. Can't remember where though.

It may have been me, as my cost per coin is ~$103.  However, you may be recalling another user who also posted the cost per coin at $100 too.  Sure, some have higher costs, and others lower.  Even after all my time lurking through the speculation forum it still amazes me at the frequency that people pull shit out of their ass and present it as fact, especially when it's people who have been here over two years and should seemingly know better.

Nice. What are you using?
Not into mining myself and I don't think now's the time to try, but the more I look at it the more I'm tempted.
