2321  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] The Official Active Mining Discussion Thread [Self-Moderated] on: December 13, 2013, 03:01:37 AM
In the process of purging this thread. Come on people, I don't care if you fud or have unpopular ideas, as long as they are at least somewhat on topic.

May I ask why it matters?  The thread has been this way since day 1

I wasn't the moderator of this section from day one. Honestly, I'm not really a stickler to moderation policy, if people want to have fun, mess around, joke around, whatever I'm all for it, as long as half of the people that are in the thread for the intended purpose don't care, I'm fine with it. however I get at least 20-30 reports about this single thread per day.

I try hard to justify posts as on topic, but some of these are too far off to even be construed as on topic.

For the record, it is not against the rules to insult people, parody ones likeness, etc. But at least slightly on topic would be preferable. If your post has to do with Active Mining, positive or negative, service discussion, speculation, etc, anything on topic, its fine.

There have been multiple scam warnings about this user, please proceed with caution.
2324  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does this forum need subforums? on: December 12, 2013, 07:49:14 PM

@All

For all of you that do not know the history of the "Alt Section", it was created simply to keep the garbage out of the main Bitcoin forum.

At first the mods of the early Bitcointalk Forum would simply delete with extreme prejudice any post that was alt coin related that was posted anywhere on Bitcointalk until that proved to be a huge task. The Alt Section was then created as an "Alternative Trashcan" and was referred to as such by quite a few mods back in the day.

Theymos has made it clear, there will not be any sub-forums for the "Alternate Trashcan".

Just FYI,

~BCX~

This is more or less accurate. This is a bitcoin forum, and the fact that an alt coin section is here is really just a formality. It should be encouraged for each coin to have its own forum, and the Bitcoin forum should be a secondary forum for coins.

I do ask about additional subforums from time to time, however we have a pretty strong answer, and there is no need to pester Theymos any more than necessary. We could have childboards eventually, but just not in the near future I do not believe.
2325  Economy / Goods / Re: [Closed] 2011 1 BTC Error Casascius Coin on: December 12, 2013, 01:10:55 PM
In light of Casascius' temporary/permanent shut down I will be holding onto this coin for a while to see how it all plays out.

Order now, and overnight shipping within the U.S will be included. I need the Bitcoins for crack... I mean various Bitcoin investment stuff.

I will give you the 1BTC that it has on the coin but that is the most I can offer. I am not trying to low ball you by any means I hope you get more but just in case you decide to rip it open and redeem it I will trade you so that it doesn't get destroyed.

1.15

Thanks for the offers, but I'll pass.
2327  Economy / Goods / Re: Girl scout cookies for BTC! Update and Rock candy! (flavored and un-flavored) on: December 12, 2013, 12:33:00 PM
Holy shit $45 mark up??!?! Salty we have to get in on this man... "Bitcoin millionaires off girl scout cookies"  I want headlines to say "And they though bitcoin was made for the SilkRoad." haha Cheesy

Check out Amazon, a box of thin mints sells for $25.
2328  Other / Off-topic / Re: Save This Child's Life - URGENT!!! NO DONATIONS. JUST A SIGNATURE on: December 11, 2013, 11:37:02 PM
I also will join.

Seems sort of strange that in order to get them to allow an experimental procedure to be done, that they would have to get thousands of strangers signatures? You would think that the parents would just be allowed to sign a waiver or something releasing the hospital of liability in case something went wrong, and the hospital would just have to get approval by proving that they have tried everything else.
2329  Other / Meta / Re: Split from: [WTB] Bitcointalk accounts on: December 11, 2013, 11:27:02 PM
That's good, trust no one, use multisig or SSSS-based escrows, ask for collateral (IDs aren't worth much) and always be a little paranoid.

This, account sales and having multiple accounts* are allowed because banning them wouldn't do anything. People that understand the techical nature of Bitcoin, aren't going to have any trouble using proper tools that will allow them to stay uncaught. On a Hello Kitty fansite forum, they can probably have the TOS say that the sale of accounts is forbidden. The majority of their userbase isn't going to know how to use proxies, tor, and the other anonomizing tools that the users of this forum use on a regular basis. The forums have 184576 registered accounts at the time of me posting this. If you think that the admins/staff could stop even a fraction of that many people from selling accounts secretly, you would have to be crazy.

* Multiple accounts are also allowed so that people may post unpopular ideas without jeopardizing their professional standings

2332  Economy / Services / Re: Make your computer a happy computer! 0.5 BTC CHEAP! on: December 11, 2013, 07:19:35 AM
Assuming your service is legitimate, wouldn't it be cheaper to just take that $500, buy another computer, and use that as an overkill secure hotwallet?
2333  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS 2 BTC for USPS Money Orders on: December 11, 2013, 06:57:21 AM
Are you sure? I seem to recall getting USPS money orders where you wrote the payee's name in yourself? In that case you'd have to get a copy of the cashed money order somehow.

I had thought so, I read that from a variety of sources recently, when I was negotiating selling some of my own coins for USPS money order.
2334  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS 2 BTC for USPS Money Orders on: December 11, 2013, 03:45:11 AM
When you buy a Post Office Money Order, they ask for the person to receive's it's name, and the recipient will have to show ID to actually get the money, so an escrow agent couldn't cash it for you. You can't get an already spent USPS Money Order.

Do keep in mind the largest amount that they will do is $1000, and in order to cash it, they will actually have to have $1000 in cash at that USPS location, so you either have to get lucky, or go to a larger Post Office.

You can check my sales thread in the signature, I am a long time seller of Casascius coins of all years, as well as graded coins. I can tell you I just saw an add for a graded MS60 (terrible grade) coin. The reason it received such a terrible grade from ANACS is because the coin was marked "cleaned". This is probably the worst thing you can do for a "collectible" piece.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what cleaning one of these coins would do to it, I definately wouldn't do it myself.

Part of the allure of these coins, is owning a piece of Bitcoin history, as these are the first physical bitcoins ever produced from what could remain the standard in physical coins fiveever.
2337  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS 2011 1 BTC Error Cas Coin *Pictures added* on: December 10, 2013, 02:31:41 AM
I should mention, although I'm looking to sell it for 2.5 BTC + if it doesn't sell in a few days, and I just get bored, I'll throw it up for auction starting at 2 or 2.25 and see where it goes.
2338  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTS 58 Block Erupters on: December 10, 2013, 12:15:53 AM
I'll pay 1 BTC inc shipping and Escrow to UK.

Ill match this offer of 1 BTC, but shipping to the U.S (may be a better deal for you if you are in the U.S)
2339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MCXNow Shutting down (Temporary) on: December 09, 2013, 11:15:31 PM
You guys realize that if MCXNow was regulated like a bank, realsolid would have to publish the change of terms in the newspaper and give at least a 12 month window for users to withdraw?

His 2 month inactivity rule is going to to wipe out many accounts of people that left their coins there for safekeeping and don't check often.

It is a very sneaky, under the radar kind of fraud he is perpetrating.

This is why I made this thread  Smiley

Whether or not the exchange dissappears for good, is something we wont know for a few months, however hopefully people will see the shutting down thread, and get their coins out that they left for the longhaul.
2340  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS 2011 1 BTC Error Cas Coin *Pictures added* on: December 09, 2013, 11:06:54 PM
Yes I agree it does more harm than good to scrub pure or uncirculated coins, but for resilient alloys like brass, bronze, and steel, it can really bring out the highlights of otherwise "ordinary" coins.

I agree, in the case of not knowing how it will effect the value though, I will allow the buyer to clean it if they so choose. If you clean an old bronze roman coin, it loses like 95% of its value, however this isn't a coin from an ancient civilization, so I just don't know how it would effect the value. Its up to the market I suppose.
