How often is that thread updated?
The forum capital one.

Not since November of last year.

The est. budget is indeed $1 million, I believe the $350k figure was the down payment. Anyone who knows software projects, the quoted completion date is a rough guideline, if you try to strictly adhere to a deadline that you set 8 months in the past, you either ought to be very lucky, or there are still things to fix on release. Its done when its done, its not like a hardware preorder where people are losing money if its not rolled out immediately on schedule, that said, to the best of my knowledge it is on schedule, and we are getting pretty close to the beta.
1562  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: February 04, 2015, 05:58:41 PM
Conspiracy Booster Packs that were set to arrive today did not, anyone interested has an additional day to decide if they want any, before I rip them open and sell the singles! I do not do any preorders here. I sell only what I have on hand, payment for booster packs will not be accepted until I have the packs in hand. More cards added to stock today, will continue to add at least a few hundred cards per day.
1563  Other / Meta / Re: About the forum (NEWCOMERS, PLEASE READ) on: February 04, 2015, 05:43:15 AM
First off, 99% of the staff don't have an opinion of Alt Coins or the Alt Coin section. It exists here because Alt Coins/Cryptocurrencies are a common related topic to Bitcoin, and without the Alt Coin section, the Bitcoin designated sections would be spammed with Alt Coin threads. I'd be willing to stake a lot on the fact that no moderator is giving preferential treatment toward one coin or another.

Spam is deleted as fast as it can be, the volume of posts, especially in the Alt Coin section are staggering, so for every report that you have made, there are probably 100-200 others that need to be handled first. Statements like, "ps. i won't be surprised if the mods remove this topic without any warning." completely discredit you, as anyone who has been here for any amount of time knows that there isn't a single instance to back up that sort of claim.

Something you should note, most of your claims can be debunked with basic logic, next time perhaps think it over before you cry abuse, because frankly its tiring for the staff to respond to. Establish a causation for why Staff would censor Spreadcoin, and promote darkcoin, make a sound hypothesis, so there is a post with some sort of substance to respond to. As I said, first, the unwanted posts in your thread will stay there if they aren't breaking any rules, make a self moderated thread if you want to keep it how you want it. Second, as I said a moment ago, it takes time to get to valid reports, relax. And a very large point I'd like to raise, just because someone says, "Good Job Spreadcoin!" in a Spreadcoin thread, does not make it not spam. There is a trend, especially in new coin threads, where people start supporting coins just for the sheer amount of post volume it can give them disguised as being on topic/not spam. Account farmers in particular tend to find a new coin or two, and feign support just to get a few hundred posts in for their signature campaigns. So if a "$50000000 Spreadcoin Tomorrow!!!" post is deleted, its not to censor the topic, its not to hurt spreadcoin, its to get rid of spam.

*ps* actually read the topics and articles you post before posting them as evidence for baseless claims.

If everyone had to put their reputation on the line with every post.

The snippet of yours that I quoted is one of our motivations for allowing people to have multiple accounts. In the past we have made a stance against regulating the amount of accounts that a single person can have for a multitude of reasons. One, there is no enforcability. On the internet, we recieve no identifying information from anyone except their login/password and that is by design. Being banned for using the same Tor Node, or VPN as someone else is bleh. Sure there are punks that abuse the open stance on account creation, but the question we have to ask is, is it worth it to punish those that are using these features legitimately, to punish the punks. If everyone had to put their reputation on the line with every post, topics that need to be discussed wouldn't be discussed, and vital critism wouldn't be open. Some people aren't in a position to speak their mind. Being able to create another account that lets you do so is a very valuable part of free speech. If people are spamming, report them.

Anyway, its a very nice collection you have sir.

Last time I played must have been in 1994 or so.
Did not hold on to my cards though, they got lost over course of time, it would have been fun to still have them today.
(I never owned Black Lotus, but if I recalled right, it was notorious even back then)

You should see if you can find any of them. I have a couple of cards from Alpha that are around $120 each, but $0.10 as modern reprints. If you find an old box of alpha cards, there doesn't have to be a Lotus in it to make you a very happy person.
1566  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Magic Cards on: February 03, 2015, 09:23:25 PM
i used to be into yigioh. loved it. but now i just can't reconnect with it. maybe it's different with magic. yugioh seems to be for kids now. Smiley

I think the difference is that Magic was always aimed at an older audience. Pokemon/Yugioh and other card games that were marketed at children didn't evolve to maintain their original audience, so they went from marketing to 1990s kids, to 2000s kids, to 201X kids. So when you went from 8 to 18, they did nothing to try and maintain their old userbase, relying on new 8 year olds to play rather than retaining their original customers. Magic aimed at the 13-29 market when it came out, 10 years later, a large part of people that started playing when it came out were still catered to by WoTC, and 10 years later still their original nostalgic cards are still competitive with modern cards, so theres no reason for them to quit playing. Wizards still does a good job of integrating their 1993 cards with their 2015 cards, unlike other card series. That $200 Holographic Charzard you pulled out of a pack of pokemon cards as a kid isn't competitive in the slightest today due to rule changes, various mechanics changing, and number scaling.

Where is you Black Lotus card?

If I thought there was an active market for one, and I wouldn't get stuck holding a $6,000 card I'd get one. That said, I've got a few rare and valuable cards (more coming in) but nothing of the power 9 tier.

still updating my deckbox link, about 5,000 more cards to go if not more.

I look forward to this site, and hope it transforms into a bitcoin exchange one day

If I get that far, I think I know just the guy to contact who can help me make it successful. *Dials up Mark Karapeles*

*edit* So as an update, Deckbox.org allows for public viewing of my collection, however it uses a lot of symbols, a strange pricing algorithm that can't be filtered. MTGPrice uses a nicer collection layout, and accurate prices, but people can't view the collection, unless I export it to a txt file or something similar. Will figure out which to use shortly and hopefully start listing some cards.
1569  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Gauging Interest [WTS] Magic Cards on: February 02, 2015, 11:20:26 PM
Salty, it might be worth it to put the time into cataloging your cards on deckbox.org.  They let you list your cards by series and condition, and give an average price from various price sources for each card.  It also lets you sell and trade via the site, if you're ever looking to get fiat as well.

-Fuse

Very good idea, thank you, I will definitely do so, although I may use MTGPrice, as thats sort of the standard in the MTG Comparison market, besides StarCityGames, and they offer a similar service. I'll check out both and see which is better. Thank you, Thats a lot better than a googledocs spreadsheet. Also, as a side note, if I do end up making a dedicated site, there is no way that I wont name it some variation of MTGOX. (For those that don't know, MTGOX was originally a Magic the Gathering Online eXchange before becoming a BTC exchange)

*edit* I've also got a CNC Mill I'm itching to use, so I might make custom deckboxes and other accessories from woods/metal. (Not handcarved!)
1570  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Magic the Gathering? on: February 02, 2015, 11:03:07 PM
Very nice collection, I'd buy them off of you if I had the capital laying around. Good luck anyway.
1571  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Gauging Interest [WTS] Magic Cards on: February 02, 2015, 07:48:27 PM
In the short time this thread has been up, I've recieved a couple pms/ people interested. Starting the thread at the time I did probably wasn't the best idea, so factoring that in, I think there is enough support to justify that I properly sort everything I have out, and draft up a Google Docs spreadsheet or something, so people can ctrl F to see if I have what they need. I'll have that drafted up and posted in the OP as soon as I'm done (that may take a while) thanks for your interest everyone that has contacted me, if there is anything specific you are looking for before I have the complete list drafted, please feel free to ask.

It'd be pretty cool if you made a website out of this and maybe even bought people's cards... But I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that, maybe paying after you receive.

That is the endgoal if the endevor is successful. I just didn't want to front the startup costs if no one was interested, so for now I'm working with what I have, if people get into it, I'll actually start trying to stock/market singles/packs/accessories.

i find it astonishing there are some people still into this stuff.

I was a 90s kid, so when Pokemon came out, I was all over it. Magic however is the only card game that hasn't really changed over the 21 years its been around. I mean they release new cards every year, but for the most part, you can take cards from 1993 and play them with your 2014 cards and they still work together (depending on what format you are playing) Wizards of the Coast, responsible for Pokemon Cards/Magic Cards/ quite a few others, does what they do well. They know how to create scarcity in their trading cards and make that an integral part of a competitive game. The biggest draw is the competitiveness, and the fact that you will never play the same game twice, there are something like 20,000 cards in existance, if you have 60/100 cards in your deck, and you play someone else with 60/100 cards in their deck, the chances of a game playing out the same way twice is near impossible.

i find it astonishing there are some people still into this stuff.

Some people find it More exhilarating to play in person rather than online or whatnot...
I mean, I'd play with Pokemon cards (if they didn't have all those stupid new cards) if someone would play with me.

Completely agree, I played pokemon when I was a kid, and got some of the old cards a few years back as nostalgia pieces, got rid of them as soon as I realized they were useless compared to the new cards. They alienated the original fanbase by changing the game mechanics too significantly.

*edit* Quoting original OP here, so I can remove it from the OP to make updates less confusing.

Hey guys, at the moment I'm just gauging interest, however anyone who is seriously interested is welcome to pm me for actual card names I have for sale. I started playing Magic a few years ago casually with buds, and found out it really isn't as nerdy as people who don't know the game make it out to be. I've amassed a relatively sizeable collection, and have recently found the joys of actually dealing cards, that is looking around for really good deals like in bulk lots and overstock from WoTC vendors, and then finding players who are looking for singles or packs and selling them at a reasonable price that then allows me to increase my card holdings and repeat. In reality, I'd love to own my own shop, however overhead cost prohibitions would then require that prices be raised, and thats no fun. So I figured I'd start here, I figured Bitcointalk had the right demographic, and the ease of payment that Bitcoin allows would allow me to undercut places with overhead and sell cards for strictly their player to player value.

That said, I've got $0.10 cards, and I have $100 cards. No lotus or anything like that, but a relatively sizeable collection that I feel could supply most casual players, and some of the more hardcore players as well. If the service if people are interested, I'll be able to sell packs, singles, booster boxes, premade decks, or anything that a new or old player would find useful. And perhaps I may even purchase cards if I can create a cycle. If you are interested, please either pm me, or respond to this thread in a meaningful way that isn't spam, and I'll go from there.

Thanks,
SaltySpitoon

*edit* Answering a PM something I should have addressed, for those not wanting to trade their Bitcoins, I would accept other means of payment found often in the Currency Exchange section here. Paypal would be accepted for orders that are large enough to need a shipping option that has tracking, and various things like that could be worked out. I'd just rather stay away from Ebay, as after a 15% fee, I tend to end up in the red.
1573  Economy / Collectibles / [WTS] Magic Cards, Sealed Packs, More coming. on: February 02, 2015, 04:13:24 AM
Since starting to play Magic casually with some friends, I have enjoyed trading and buying/selling the cards just as much as the gameplay, I'm starting this thread as a test for what could become MTGOX2, the second Original Magic the Gathering Online eXchange. My intentions are to use Bitcoin payment processing in order to provide the highest quality magic the gathering singles, packs, sealed product, and supplies at competitive prices with greater service than you can find anywhere else online.

As there was enough interest in my initial thread, I have started listing what cards I currently have for sale. Below is a Deckbox.org link which is a handy tool that lists current stock, alphabetizes them, shows their condition, what set they are from, and other necessary info. It also shows an average value of the cards, the caviat being this price is not set by me, but from what I have seen, it is pretty close to accurate, so consider it a quote. I'll give you a more than fair price, as I plan to undercut all retailers by virtue of lack of overhead, and accepting Bitcoin in addition traditional payment methods. My goal is to find the customer base here so that I may be able to provide the largest stock of singles and products possible. What I can provide that no one else can, is hobby shop person to person service, without the hobby shop overhead prices tacked on top. I intend to sell singles, decks, sets, and other products to look out for. I will provide free consultation for new players, factory prebuilt decks, custom tailored decks around playstyle and budget, fair and exciting mystery lots, bulk sales, and discounts for paying with your Bitcoins!

I will constantly be updating the Deckbox.org link with inventory as I obtain more cards, sell cards, and sort through more of my boxes. If there is something in particular you are looking for that I don't have listed, feel free to ask. If you have any questions/comments/concerns/general hate and discontent or feedback in general, please let me know. If there is any interest, I will make a more intuitive site, and streamline the process, rather than just having a classifieds post on the forums.

As promised, the list:
Picture View: https://deckbox.org/sets/894863?p=1&v=v
Table View: https://deckbox.org/sets/894863?v=l&f=#

Bear with me, as the list is a bit bare at the moment, I have a good chunk of my rares up there now, however I have a ton of cards to go with more coming in every day.

If you see something you like, shoot me a pm. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, general hate and discontent, etc please feel free to ask. If I don't have something listed that you are looking for, please don't hesitate to ask. I may have just not gotten around to listing it yet, or I may be able to find it for you cheaper than anywhere else!

UPCOMING PRODUCTS!
A lot more Mythics and Rares! (expected within the next few days)
Booster Boxes/Packs! (expected within the next few days)
Custom Built Metal/Wood deck Boxes and accessories (TBA)
Mystery Lots with Published odds, and valuable cards for more than just one winner!

and said, "I'd recommend removing Tecshare" with no underlying threat or anything else. There was not a threat of removal from Default trust by Theymos to Canaryinthemine or myself.

But isn't this kind of a nudge in that direction? That statement alone would linger in your mind before you even took a look at the meta thread that was sent from Thymos. It could be said that this aided a decision before facts were even placed in front of you.

If I was simple minded maybe, I made a judgement for myself, which I've also addressed 50 times. Its not that in my opinion Tecshare is untrustworthy. I'd still trust Tecshare with my money in a trade, I however removed him from my trustlist because I don't trust him not to get upset and make an irrational unproportionate reactions to situations (My decision, not Theymos/Canaryinthemine/etc's decision). My positive feedback for him for past trades stands, I just don't trust him to leave appropriate feedback for others. Armis was mildly pestering his sales thread, no moderator responded either because they didn't feel it necessary, or they didn't get around to reading it, and the situation played out from there. As I've said in the Remove Nubbins/Vod/etc etc threads in meta, I don't care because Nubbins/Vod aren't my responsibility, as I don't have either of them on my trust network. Its not subjective enforcement of the rules, its just that moderator's don't have Nubbins/Vod on their trust lists, so they have no reason to respond. (besides Badbear who has addressed his stance on Vod)
1575  Other / Meta / Re: REMOVE NUBBINS FROM THE DEFAULT TRUST LIST FOR REPEATED TRUST ABUSE on: January 30, 2015, 06:35:04 AM
This has been covered many times, to address the last 10 or so comments since this is about Nubbins and not Tecshare, so this thread can get back to what the OP is about. I was not "ordered" to remove Tecshare by Theymos, I recieved 7 Pms from different people telling me to check out the thread about and consider removing him from my trust list. Theymos too pmed Canaryinthemine and myself the meta link, asked that we read it, and said, "I'd recommend removing Tecshare" with no underlying threat or anything else. There was not a threat of removal from Default trust by Theymos to Canaryinthemine or myself.

That said, @Bitcoinexpress Tecshare is not jrretirement nor do I believe he is Woodcollector.
1576  Other / Meta / Re: Three perfectly good examples of how the trust system is flawed on: January 12, 2015, 06:52:10 PM
One thing that will never be able to be prevented is the long con, people build up valuable trust, and then for one reason or another, they throw out their trust for a one time payment. I dont know, I have varying opinions of the Charlie Shrem scam accusation. On one hand, its understandable on both sides, how the payment schedule wasn't locked in and is open to interpretation, and also Charlie's current situation may leave him far more important things to do rather than sell coins to settle the debt. But, then again as a businessman he probably should have taken a better path on settling the debt.

Is coinhoarder on default trust, or did he just get positive feedback from trusted members? Those are two completely different things. I've dealt with scammers and left them positive feedback before, however I would always use escrow in that case, and make sure that is shown in my feedback ex. Risked BTC 0 comment: Did a 2 BTC trade with this person, used X as escrow, everything went well. At that point, if people just look at the green +1 rather than the comment, theres nothing to be done about that.

And I have no idea about the Lazlo case, so no input on that.

If the point of this thread is to point out that the current trust system is suseptible to long cons, there is no prevention system for that. If its about getting people to maintain their trust better, I'm in agreement with you. There were a lot of designs set up in the current trust system that involved individuals taking options available and using them differently, but a lot of people just stick with the defaults. Hopefully something is changed in the new system that sort of pushes people towards customizing their lists and maintaining them on occasion.
1577  Other / Meta / Re: Replacing DefaultTrust on: January 09, 2015, 10:50:40 PM
Since the Trust system is mainly for the newbies, why don't we (I mean Theymos) make a poll about what changes/protections they would like in the newbie section? The problem with this thread is that 90% of the people answering and I'd assume voting, are those that know about the meta section, and are legendary/hero/senior accounts. While its all fine and good to have a discussion with everyone about this, why don't we propose different new systems to the newbie section, get newbie responses, and then pick apart the proposed systems until we have a system that was popular with newbie members, and then picked apart to make sure its a sound system by everyone else.
I doubt that the newbies would come up with any meaningful decisions or even suggestions. Yeah, I know that sounds rather arrogant, but to be honest, you don't believe for a minute yourself that someone who's hardly grasped the proceedings of this forum would be able to find a technological solution to a complex problem like a web of trust? Roll Eyes

Let's be paternalistic, as we already were with the DefaultTrust system, and just give our beloved newbs a big red or green flag "trust this guy / distrust that guy". It'll be for their best.

If you think its a good idea, Theymos/Badbear please make the poll or thread in the newbie section, no one else please. People that have agendas or biases one way or another will word things oddly or propose systems that couldn't be implemented, etc and it would take away from the point of asking the newbies. Because as a lot of people are mentioning here, they don't neccessarily need the trust system as it is, because they have been here long enough to use whatever tools are available. So this has pretty much boiled down to what can we do to help the newbies, but at the same time not screw everyone else over.
I personally wouldn't mind screwing everyone else over if it helped reducing the number of scammed newbies. Cool

Perhaps, but everyone is familiar with some sort of feedback systems, be it Ebay's, OTC, Amazon product reviews, etc. If the purpose of the trust system is to help the newbies, why make it more complicated than they can understand? That said, of course everyone understands we are talking generalization. Some newbies here have never touched cryptocurrencies nor many tech features that we take for granted, and some newbies here have been developing decentralized systems for 30 years. I didn't mean have the newbies decide the depths of the technical features, I mean ask them what would help them out, and then have the older members (people in this meta thread) design a doable system around what they need.

If you have never been scammed, and know with complete certainty that you can avoid doing so in the future, your motivations in the new trust system will be minimally compared to those that actually need it. I personally would be just fine without any sort of trust system, so I probably wouldn't be the best person to design a trust system. However I can understand the need for one. So why not ask the people who will use it what they want and go from there?

1579  Other / Meta / Re: STAFF/MODERATOR DOUBLE STANDARDS AND SELECTIVE ENFORCMENT OF RULES on: January 07, 2015, 10:13:00 PM
AFAIK staff are allowed to have opinions... There are no rules (except no spamming I guess) on the Trust system. They can do that if they want, it shouldn't have any effect on it whether they're staff or not.
I am not claiming staff shouldn't have opinions, I am disputing the validity of his statement, and I provided an example of why it is not true. There are in fact rules on the default trust system and and they are often enforced from a centralized forum authority (when it isn't one of their buddys).

And I would refute your statement about my statement not being true, but honestly I don't especially care anymore. Any of the staff telling you there is no conspiracy going on behind the scenes to censor/modify trust isn't going to change your opinion, so why bother. I know your claim isn't valid, and you know my claim isn't valid, pretty sure there is no budging from here. It has been discussed to death, and no progress in either direction has been made.

I'd like answers from the staff.
If there is no standard for the trust system. I'd like to know this, so I can stop believing what it say's and others can be aware it holds no real backing.
If there are standard's, such as what it says when you click on negative. Than they should be enforced.
