2381  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How can buying 1Th/s machines now be profitable?!? on: March 20, 2014, 05:45:03 PM
The use of 20% for the difficulty increase should be questioned.

It is much more likely the difficulty increase this year will be 15% falling to 10%.

I suggest you redo the calculations assuming 15%.  In this case mining is attractive and the miner is profitable to run well into 2015.

So what it comes down to is do you believe the difficulty increase this year will average 20% or is 10-15% more likely.  Remember the last difficulty increase was 11.39%.

Ok, put the diff increase at 15%..
By calculations, machine of 1Th/s arrived at 29.03. at price 5900$(with shipping+customs+taxes included) will pay of exactly at new years eve Smiley
And assuming price of 636$ per BTC..

now imagine if btc goes to $800. the electrical cost becomes much less significant

now imagine if we see more difficulty jumps like the last one at 11.2%? I don't think we will see a jump greater than 20% ever again IMO
2382  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: For Individuals looking to get into the Mining Game in 2014, please read this! on: March 20, 2014, 05:41:32 PM
I'm glad I ignored the naysayers in this forum that said you'd never ROI in the mining game.  The difficulty will be too high.  All the high end miners will flood the network.  Just Buy and HODL.

Blah Blah Blah.  They won't flood the network, more like trickle slowly in batches.  The difficulty jumps aren't 30%, more like 18-20% increases.

By every calculator (Genesis Block, Bitcoinwisdom, BTCInvest, etc) I will ROI by May or so.

It's all about doing your own research, finding the best bang for your buck, and only ordering equipment "In Hand".

Thank you Bitmaintech, for proving there is hope in being a home miner.   Smiley

most of my antminers have actually broken even at this point, basically any hardware purchsed >3 months ago in fact has
2383  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Overclock the Antminer S1 to 200GH/s] The EASY way! on: March 20, 2014, 05:31:29 PM
Any code for underclocked to have 1wattvper gh from s1
Have you seen anywhere done, 1watt/ gh/s for S1?

there is no reason to underclock the S1 unless you are paying something like $0.50/kwh at this moment.

overclocking it to 198GH/410W is more cost-effective for the bulk of owners right now, and will probably stay that way until june when bringing it down to stock speeds for a bit better efficiency makes sense
2384  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: TheShowOff-all ANTMINER mining rigs. on: March 20, 2014, 05:26:08 PM

4 antminer in the crates (soon to be cleaned of dust and relocated to the sheving since they are really loud in comparison) plus a bitfury (260Gh) and S1 on the top shelf, plus 5 more on the middle shelf.

The middleshelf has 3 antminers doing 387.5Mhz using a Corsair AX1200 (1205W on 12v) that barley gets warm on a 213V circuit. one of them is looking a bit over 2% hw errors though and will be tuned back to 375 probably
2385  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 20, 2014, 05:21:44 PM

10 antminers total + 1 bitfury. More S1 units and an S2 units will come soon

We are currently running one of our Demo boards on BTCGuild and our total hashing rate is:

Team AMC:

 211435   926.93 GH/s
""Our existing hardware assets from AMC liquidation
6 Avalon miners, currently running on BTC Guild under "Team AMC" for around 430 GH/s;
An order of Avalon chips from steamboat's batch #1, for 68 Klondike-16 boards, rated at 68*16*282 = 307 GH/s;
An order of 20,000 Avalon chips (end of May and beginging of June orders), for a combined hashrate of 20,000*282 = 5,640 GH/s.

In total, around 6,377 GH/s, expected to be fully operational in the middle of August."

In a recent news video from about a month ago, it was clear you still had those machines. Thats 737GH so I dont know what to expect your demo board is worth - 190GH.

Without further explanation or (im serious) a photo, my assumption would be that you threw an antminer into your collection at a simple 375Mhz (190GH+/- 2GH) overclock.

nobody understands what is going on, and you are evidently a man of few and imprecise words. Maybe photography would be more your style if you actually want to post useful updates

Will you soon be releasing more information specifying the details of the mining equipment being used?

It is our Fast-Hash One 600 GH/s board, soon to be on our website.

Have you implemented an intermediate 'stop-gap' solution for the business while we develop our own 28nm chips or are we much further ahead than we thought?

I would not call it a 'stop-gap' solution.  We are doing what is required in the business to make the company and our shareholders successful.  There are a number of strategies we are using to make this happen.

How are things coming along with the pre-ordered products?

We are getting ready to start issuing refunds again.  We are also using our new 600 GH/s board as we get them in full production to solve our refund problem.

Are you able to give us an update on the MSD investigation specifically referring to the status of our shares?

My lawyer has just responded to the MSD with the information they requested.  I think that due to the couterparty risk with these bitcoin exchanges, that we will be using colored coins.  CC is getting very close to being usable.  I do want to get everyone where they can trade; however, I need to consult with my lawyer before doing anything.

Could we get the chip specs and maybe a picture or two of the chip/board/miner?

Its obvious neithe will come. what was the last photograph that was given to demonstrte the ability of ACTM? AFAIK it was a workbench with a few empty PC cases on it
2388  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining room cooling issue. on: March 20, 2014, 01:50:09 PM
How do you convert the dryer's 240V to 120V?

Likely your third problem is that you're going to be maxing out your 15A circuit too. My guess is that the next power supply you add is going to tip the load and trip your breaker.

I'm running the miners on the 50amp washer/dryer circuit.  No way would I run all 6 Antminer S1's on a 15amp circuit; it would probably trip the circuit breaker or start a fire.  I've read that 15amps can support 3 Antminers and 50amps support about 18.  I definitely did my research beforehand.

I got ahead of myself and made a bad assumption; the socket that I am on is not 50amps, it is 15amps.  I made the assumption that because it was next to the dryer socket that they were on the same circuit but that was proven wrong when I tested the circuit breakers today.  I'm going to have to split up my Antminers and have them in different rooms so that I don't overload any one circuit.  I would like to utilized the actual dryer socket but as of right now, I don't know how.  I am much more safety conscious nowadays and am glad that I checked my circuit breakers.

either:
1) go to home depot and buy a 'whip' cord that has a plug matching your outlet and a 3-6' terminated wire lead. either wire these into a new outlet/housing or into a larger PDU capable of L6-30 or better socket.  There are distribution options that can handle 50A and allow you to wire into its terminals or splice to its cable
2) go to a specialty shop such as greybar or nedco and buy a big 50A locking outlet that is designed for industrial applications and then buy a sompatible server PDU.
2389  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 20, 2014, 01:44:07 PM
Love the modified server PSU, I've considered using them, but concerned over a potential increase in fire hazard. I know those dells have pre-configured kits, but didn't know if it can cause potential issues as I read a couple people saying they had hot wires to the touch.

If wires are hot, they are probably not thick enough. Hmm, third hit says 18Gauge is good for 16 amps.. would not want to run more than 5 though that. This pages seems to agree, but qualifies that with a maximum length.

I would put the practical limits (based on experience) around:

18AWG (Quality product such as PSU cables) - 10A maximum, 8A is safe
18AWG (chinese mlex adapters and other flimsy wire) - 6A maximum, 5A is safe

16AWG - 15A max, 12A is safe
14AWG - 22A max, 17A is safe

generally my antminers use the 14AWG wire in order ot reduce clutter and simplify things. The wires get slightly warm when using only 2 pairs of wire for an S1, but probably only 30C or so which is quite safe
2390  Economy / Goods / Re: Loaded 1 BTC Physical Silver Casascius Bitcoins For Sale on: March 20, 2014, 04:59:45 AM
When you say "last batch", do you mean the silver+golds in general?

I notice that the obverse of the coin shows a 1Ag5 prefix -- if I'm not mistaken, there are 1Ag6 silver+gold 1oz coins out there. Anyone able to verify?

Production of 1BTC coins starts from the beginning of the set (1Ag1, 1Ag2, 1Ag3, etc.)
  Production of 0.5BTC coins starts from "a" (1Aga, 1Agb, 1Agc, etc.)
Production of 0.1BTC coins starts in reverse from "z" (1Agz, 1Agy, 1Agx, etc.)

From Casascius.

I can verify that there ARE Gold/Silver coins with the 1Ag6 batch - I have some and am pretty certain it is the last batch produced

AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) Batch 2   SOLD OUT

glad i got an order in on time. any new specs for us? Smiley I badly want to see how it overclocks!
2392  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: March 20, 2014, 04:45:05 AM
I believe everyone has once again reinforced why I don't use the server PSUs, although they are really the best bang for the buck. Not worth the worry in my unmanned site.
Huh? The wire/heat/potential fire issues we were having were with an ATX PSU. Our modified server PSUs have never given us any issues. They're rock solid!

I love mine that work - but ive spent way too much time testing some that dont, particularly the dps-800gb supplies. 2 kicked out on me, 3 fail to work with the 31+34 pin mod, and the 3 that work still are great powerhouses Smiley

You're not popping breakers running 6 Ants through one outlet? In a kitchen with other appliances?

looks like 240V - either a stove outlet of just a 15A 240V outlet that is a little bit too close to its limits

As far as hot wires, we had an AntMiner on the test bench running on a 750w ATX PSU but had a cheesy molex to PCIe adapter that ended up putting all the load onto just 1 pair of about 18awg wire. When we noticed hot cables and the yellow turning brown, we moved to the correct set of cables (PSU is modular). Not only are the cables now running nice and cool, but it's also pulling 30watts less from the wall!!!
if you gave it another minute you wouldve seen a nice little blaze Smiley

don't rely on ebay cables for mining rigs - they are not designed for large loads
It had been running like that for 3 days....  Shocked Shocked Shocked #woops

And these weren't cheap ebay cables. They were the PSU's own modular adapter for the molex plugs, and then using a Gigabyte 280x's twin molex to PCIe 6pin. Lesson learned!

Thats why you lasted 3 days and not 3 minutes - gigabyte used some reasonably good cables.

stuff from ebay/china generally doesn't

You ordered a product right? Bitmaintech.com apparently relies on blockchain.info for a lot of its automated features like payment confirmation, and that is why it might be unpaid or expired.

Bitmain is going through manually confirming purchases. There might be some delay but they will get to yours ASAP. If you hear nothing in another 24 hours, send them an email and remind

You can see in the pics crazyates posted that we're using an IBM 2000w PSU. Three delta fans on the side keep it nice and cold without having to open the case. 1 PSU feeds 4 AntMiners nicely.

I used one of those before that was a 8pin ATX -> 6 pin PCI that was rated 18AWG (4 wires for each polarity, or <50W each shouldnt be a problem at all) which burtst into a small fireball within 3 minutes of being installed and switching on the PSU.

My 5 miners arrived today in great shape - no thermal paste leakage or noisy fans! (One unit had a screw that was about 2 turns loose)

If the price drops a bit when the store gets going again I might order a few more with my coupons - otherwise I am holding out for the S2 or the spoondly miner
2398  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners. Shipping in 7 days!!! on: March 19, 2014, 06:01:31 PM
$5,360.00 .. including shipping for $365.00...DHL...7-10 days...I guess... Huh

Edit:  Shipping to Florida, USA...

Ouch. I can buy 8.7BTC right now (Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 4:24:16 PM UTC) for $5360 from Coinbase. Do you think this miner will generate more than 8.7? I don't.

Me either...I am not buying ...not NOW...blind trust can be very expensive... Wink

Compared with a 1TH (possibly clocking a bit higher?) Antminer at 5.7BTC, this product actually fits into a certain niche for investors who use server racks and are willing to pay a 10-20% premum to run the same hashrate in 2 rack units as bitmain would require 12 rack units for
2399  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: March 19, 2014, 05:55:42 PM
with KNC announcement of SCRYPT ASICS and friedcat not seeing them be a worthwhile investment. with the prices of other alts and interest in scrypt  asics - does asicminer not find it a good market to explore as well. with a well made scryptasic this year (possible solo mining) it could give friedcat and AM further revenue, stronger foothold in cryptocurrency, diversification and many other benefits. someone should talk to him about exploring this option again.

The point in scrypt is that it's ASIC resistant and the Litcoin devs are against ASICs. They might very well alter the code or switch to sth else than scrypt and make your 10K USD scrypt ASIC into a very expensive doorstop (you could probably still use it as an electric heater, hoping it's not too noisy for the home).

I can see why FC doesn't want to waste allocate resources for developing a scrypt ASIC.

+1. scrypt ASICs dont make much sense. If a single cryptocurrency is to succeed it would be Bitcoin, otherwise it would be another SHA-256 coin that improves significantly in a few ways (such as smaller size blockchain, shorter block times, or the capability to handle much more volume) so that the massive pile of existing infrastructure remains useful and secures the network.

its like inventing the stone wheel, then deciding that the rubber-covered square is the real game-changer

So how much are you paying for electricity?

.05 kw/h

including delivery charge? might i ask where is it?

delivery and fees is the biggest PITA.  I personally pay between 0.07-0.10/kwh but with fees included its about an average $0.145/kwh CAD
