2381  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: August 09, 2023, 02:26:47 PM

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

It is not that they are not proud of what they do but we live in a world of psychopath that people expect you to behave in certain way which is the norms and custom that people are known with.

There could be two are three reasons that I can justify that people hide such gambling habit and one is that of religion and family upbringing/background. It is like the case we treated here where a boy from religious home won $46k from sports bet but couldn't freely disclose to his parents who are religious people.

Another reason could be the marriage status. If a man is married and the wife doesn't like gambling, while the man does, it is likely that the man will continue but will hide it from the wife. I have seen a man who hides his gambling habit from the wife but other people know about it, sometimes the woman criticize gamblers and vouch for his husband that he doesn't involve in such unrewarding venture but people would laugh at her ignorance.

Another reason could be what people will say, that is the society especially when they don't know you are gambling. If you are a prig then you are likely to be hiding your gambling habit.
2382  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do anyone have done this? with gambling platforms on: August 09, 2023, 01:00:03 PM

If I get the chance to win a lot of money, I will stop and withdraw the money because I may not have another chance to win anymore. Instead I can lose money in the next round, I better stop gambling and get out of the casino. It can help us to maintain the self-control that we are practicing so that we can continue to be aware that we cannot always win, let alone win a lot. We also have to know that in gambling, we can't always win after getting a win.

This is easy with someone who is not a gambler but have just tried few times and accidentally got a winning. Such person can decide to back out but for someone who does gambling often times, he won't stop gambling because he has won some money from the casino because he understand that it is his turn to win and the luck has come to him. He can only be careful not to lose more than he has been losing already. It is greed that make a bettor to lose higher than he has been losing because he wants to take higher risk.
2383  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin on Weekly looks Dangerous on: August 09, 2023, 09:08:07 AM
I’m not seeing danger when I look at that chart. It seems to clearly show that the market has been steadily pushing up since bottoming and is still within the trading range. If anything I think it shows that now would be a good time to buy if the market does remain bullish. I’m expecting the next 6 months to be good ones for holders.

I would rather be patient a little more till the month ends because I see from op's chart that it is gradually pointing at 24,500 which is a support. So if it gets there and bounce of then one can comfortably buy in , or to wait and see how the month price will end. The expectation of next six months depends whether the price will bounce on 24,500 because that seem a strong support or whether it will go do further or bounce off for bull continuation.
2384  Economy / Economics / Re: The future of Farming. on: August 08, 2023, 10:11:34 PM
In our formal farming systems, we used our physical energy and power to work in our farm land, but these days we all rely on chemicals substance that why we can no longer manage our farm land and that is why we need physical energy. The reason why land is getting less in fatal in teams of production is because when the reproduction is more than two to three teams in a particular piece of land the manual of the land will be very weak in sense that the seed will not germinate very well.

You sort of contradicted yourself at the end of your post. At the beginning you condemned the use of chemicals on land or farm and at the end you identified that not rotating farm is responsible for low harvest. Therein is the issue of chemicals and why it is important to help farm products to grow faster. If fertilizer is applied in a particular land during cultivation and fertilizer is not applied in the second farm, the former will grow faster and produce good fruit. Chemicals are used to support farm and that will help to increase the quantity of farm produce.
2385  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reckless gambling starts after a win round. on: August 08, 2023, 08:52:11 PM

I'm not sure if it is all about winning; just imagine playing computer games. Are you not playing the games if you lose a round? You still play, right? not because you lose but because it is fun. Though winning is really fun, it doesn't mean that if you lose you won't be entertained because in gambling there are really people just looking for fun, and even if they lose, they still play on it. I've seen a lot of documentaries that show that most people who got addicted to it lost a lot of money and are now selling their properties just to gamble.

Playing computer game doesn't really merge with gambling because gambling you have your emotion to struggle with as your money is involved but mere play station only spike you up but you don't take reckless emotional decision, only to play and have fun , no money is involved.

That documentary is actually teaching against chasing losses because that is the major causative factor that will make someone become an addict. Addicts don't play for fun but for the purpose of multiplier.
2386  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: August 08, 2023, 06:35:08 PM

Which one would you choose from these and why?

To start with I hope we understand that all the factors listed are under business? They all involve risk and reward.

Let's imagine that you have half a million US-Dollar/Euro/GBP and want to feel financially safe and build a better future.
1. Real estate - It's probably one of the safest investment option out there. Inflation rises, rent and apartment prices rise too, if inflation turns into deflation, your rent/apartment price still remains the same. With half a million, you can buy two or more good apartments in eastern Europe and live on your rent income.

I will choose real estate and the points you made on it are nothing but the fact. Land of house don't get devalued just as inflation is hitting hard. If the house depreciates as a result of wear and tear, you just go on renovation and it is back to modern taste. Real estate value appreciate as the days go by, you can mortgage, lease it out while you are not even occupying the premises you are earning from it.

On the other hand I can only invest as second option in bitcoin.

In a real and ideal situation, those who criticize government are suppose to be those allowed to show what they have to offer because it may seem that they have better idea. I said ideal because assuming the system is not corrupt, so that they can genuinely offer something positive to growth of the country but the problem is when such person get into power or government and meet bad system, they eat their words and start doing same thing that they have criticized or they are frustrated out of the system by those who are feeding from the corrupt system.

The talk wey I get to yarn about this gas generator stuff be say e still dey look risky for me. I never get moral to even stay where Dem dey use am not to talk of using it. My question be say wetin be the level of savings wey person fit get from dat because if we dey follow people dey do something, we suppose also dey check the gains and loss. Now somebody wey no dey use him generator for business, meaning say your level of fuel consumption fit no dey high like you dey use am time to time, you suppose know how much you dey save whether e worth am to go start using the gas. If business people decide to use am base on say Dem dey safe money from am, Dem fit get point but no be for low consumer of fuel to begin stress their self on d thing.

And one big question be say, hmmm what if this government go increase the price of gas?  Grin Because nothing dey stable for Nigerian governance.

You sabi wetin make you drop this post and unto say you sabi what's up about our struggle for the local board matters, that one speak volume. Anyway, yes God na ultimate in everything wey we dey do. Even when people dey plan bad for us when we know no, him dey protect us because him say him desire for us na for God and not for evil. As always, he is great and mighty God.
2390  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: TRADE VS HODL, make we avoid wahala. on: August 08, 2023, 03:14:25 PM

Imagine needing urgent cash and you have Bitcoin, won't you trade it for fiat money,

For this aspect wey you take give example now, I will consider this as selling your bitcoin for cash or to convert am to cash. This one dey different from trading it. Trading also dey different from hodling your bitcoin for your wallet or exchange whatever where you leave am. But to trade bitcoin, you are talking about futures trading where price moves up and down and you fit make profit from each of them if you get ur analysis well. But if you need urgent 2k and you sell your btc to buy wetin you want, na sell you sell no be trade in the broader sense of trading.
2391  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin price speculation (BTC/NGN) on: August 08, 2023, 11:53:12 AM

It simply as a result of the fall in the value of "Naira" that is making no much difference between the two prices of BTC as given above, because like play like play, with the fast pace in this fall in the value of Naira, don't be surprised waking up one morning and seeing $1 selling at #1000, which I'm sure that is likely to occur before next 3months time. And same $1 likely to be trade at #1500 before December.  And on that note, dollar or Bitcoin is the best option to save funds now, for those who want to escape inflation of our Naira currency.

If naira fall against dollar to the levels wey you don mention, me no go too surprise. The only thing be say that #1,500 per $ for december wey be around 4 months time fit no dey realistic but whether we go hit #1,000 per $ , dat one fit happen. Meanwhile, we no even need to compare bitcoin and naira, naira no dey gain any strength because the government never do anything wey go increase foreign reserve, the economic no dey export, so you see some much naira chasing dollar because people want change am to travel or important something.

And on that note, dollar or Bitcoin is the best option to save funds now, for those who want to escape inflation of our Naira currency.

Me I no go even advise person to hodl money for dollar because that one too fit crash if government decide to make one stupid announcement wey dem no go follow but bitcoin is not affected by within government talk. However, even dat btc self only good for this time wey we dey expect halving and bull run, apart from that if bear hit someone for bitcoin, na next four years oo. The best na to trade btc after bull. You fit hodl am now because of the bull but we know say correction go happen after sometime.

However, I no sure say guys wey dey here dey feel d inflation like those wey dey outside dey earn in naira on top government bare promise to increase their pepper for the month. As naira dey fall, dollar dey rise. The difference in the increase of dollar dey help take care of the inflation to an extent.
2392  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: We suppose use pidgin English de post for our local board. on: August 08, 2023, 10:52:30 AM
Normally but them we gats understand say some people dey here wey nor fit write in pidgin except their mama language. All still join. And for Charles, it doesn't matter whether our ATMs are in English or news is being broadcasted in English. May I remind you that you can actually choose your preferred language ? Even when you call the network providers. May I also remind you that there are news channels - TV and Radio that broadcast and have their programs strictly in Pidgin, zero English. But then to each man him own...nor be rule say we must write in pidgin but na just based on your preferred choice.

Ur clarification make sense. Well apart from say English too enta us unto say the lingua franca tin wey take so much of our mother tongue away, some sabi write pidgin but dem no just want to write wit am. Me even lik 2 even flow with pidgin, e dey sweet and away 2 code ourselves here. If we dey yarn english all d tim, anybody 4m oda board go dey follow us bumper 2 bumper & no all d tin wey dey sup here, e no too make sense. Although d issue start 4m top as we no get one unifying native language as we see for oda board. Except say pesin sabi french, german, u no fit jus enta dose board 2 no wetin dey sup dere except u wan translate.
2393  Economy / Gambling / Re: Why don't land-based casinos have an online version? on: August 07, 2023, 10:05:03 PM
It's also to a double advantage though... If a landbase casino decides to develop an online version of their service, then they're entitled to a double, or even a triple turn over...

It is not always that way you are seeing it. I believe if such happen, those gamblers who are already playing their land base are also likely to be those also signing up to the online with just very few more to it. But usually the patronage may not be widely different because someone betting on the land casino will not have much to bet online and vice versa.

It's quite exhausting and time-taking as there are so many processes behind the validation protocol.. apparently, that's the reason any landbase casino owner won't wanna conceive the idea of putting up a software structure too... Secondly, they'll be entitled to double expenses since they'll be managing boths interface.

Sandra 🧑‍🦰

You are right on it. There is a reason to choose a land based casino. The owner may not want to undergo the processes of online casino and if he comes up with the idea later, it means he has prepared to take up the challenge.
2394  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com - The Leading Crypto Casino - Drake, UFC, Everton, Alfa Romeo F1 Team on: August 07, 2023, 08:59:37 PM
GUys, please, i am a bit confused (Did i just say a bit?), well, i am seriously confused with what i am seeing in the bet ticket below..

I put a bet on Inter Miami CF to win the match, and from the score I am seeing on stake, Inter Miami CF won, but Stake still registered the ticket as a loss ,
I tried checking the score of this game on google since i wasn't opportuned to watch the match, and below is the score shown on google..

I dont understand what exactly is going on here, why are the scores different, and why did stake register my bet ticket as a loss when from their score, it shows my candidate won? someone with better understanding should please explain ..

Thank you.

Your bet on 1x2 market for Inter Miami win while the final score is 4-4 of course your bet lose the 1x2 market is only for normal match 90 minutes
Maybe this is a tournament match so if the final score is draw 4-4 then it will go to penalty shootouts as you can see the score on penalties was 3-5 and this is not included in your bet because it is outside of 90 minutes.

I suggest you bet on both teams to score in an MLS match most of the matches there ended with both teams scoring goals, just a suggestion  Tongue

Another advise would be to learn some sports betting terminology. This is such an obvious mistake and 99% of sports bettors know what 1x2 means.
I made this mistake as well, when I did my first or 2nd online bet ever.  Grin

Well, at least this won't happen to you again. We all pay the price to learn something new.

Btw, football is always team A / draw / team B , unless it's stated otherwise. They also offer bets like who to advance for example, this bet you would have won. They also have "draw no bet" , then you would have gotten a refund.

This is normal when you do a direct bet. Direct bet is usually full time (FT) and after that winning or loss is determined based on if you bet direct home win (1), away win (2) or draw (x). So @ Fivestar4everMVP, you had a 90 minutes bet expiration and not extending to penalties or lifting of trophy or tournament cup etc. That is what has happened.

For example if you had a draw bet (x) and the match at FT ends at 4/4 then you will win the bet irrespective of who won at extra time or penalties. When match extends into penalty, it is a different cattle of fish however, you can also bet such option because they are all in the varieties of option but you need to as well understand them. If you need some of the meanings of those options, I think there is no information that google can't provide.
2395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Appropriate percentage of income for gambling on: August 07, 2023, 07:31:38 PM

I am not into gambling anymore. But I can say that I can use 10-20% of my weekly income on gambling.

Based on your income in a week, if you are using this amount mentioned to gamble I think it is on the high except if you are making appropriate profit from it to cover your losses because most gamblers make more losses than profit and to lose 20% weekly from your earnings is surely high. A gambler who wins often wins has no issue with how much invested in gambling but a perpetual loser has to watch on how much wasted in betting. There are people who have stopped gambling because of frequent losses. Yes, if it is not working for you it is better to quit like you said you did.

but in crypto you are the boss of your own, all you just need is a smart phone or a laptop to seat at your comfort zone and be making money without being noticed by anyone, though I no crypto work is not easy also but can never be compare with some physical job.

You fit talk about being your own boss, doing your own thing without another involvement but I hope that one you dey refer to crypto investment or trading but e no just sweet as you talk am. People dey lose shege from trading the crypto, so e no just balance with life. No where easy, if na about cryptocurrency investment generally, losses plenty pass gain except you dey talk on to wetin dey sup here but outside day one, bro forget, e no sweet like that.

Also through crypto awareness most people were able to navigate other ways of working online to earn a living.

Yes but no be only crypto, na the gains wey dey for smart phone and getting connected online. Na there e start, being online, you meet crypto, deriv, fx, freelancing etc and affiliate marketing if them no scam you  Grin
2397  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reckless gambling starts after a win round. on: August 07, 2023, 06:22:45 PM
as long as a person is exposed to gambling, the possibility of gambling addiction is always there.

I think one can be exposed to gambling without being an addict. If you are exposed to something it means that you are knowledgeable about that thing not necessarily that you are involved in the activity. By the way, you can play from time to time and you are exposed to it but not an addict to it. There are people who have also played gambling in the past and have stopped, they are exposed to it because they know all that happens in it but have taken the decision to stope, so they also are not addict.
2398  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Reckless gambling starts after a win round. on: August 07, 2023, 04:12:21 PM

It's also possible for the losing gambler to become addicted because there are types of gamblers that won't stop until they get back the money they've lost. But I agree that it's more likely to start when you're in a winning session because you sometimes get a bunch of easy wins and gamblers would try to test the limits of their luck by doubling down on their bets or even going all in.

I would rather run away after winning than continuing after winning  Grin I believe this is the wish of many gamblers who are in a losing spray lol. I have known gamblers speaking like this from their losses that they want to recover some portion of losses. Except a gambler is a chronic addict and the type that wants to have gambling as a source of income, otherwise it is better to exit when the ovation is loudest and that could be when you hit that big jackpot.
2399  Economy / Economics / Re: [DISCUSSION] Bitcoin, Fiat, Inflation, Default on: August 07, 2023, 03:03:11 PM

5. Greece
Greece as a country of philosophers and a country that created a democratic system but failed to manage its own country. Greece defaulted on a debt of 337 billion EURO

Oh... This reminds me of the Athenian democracy where families, villages, communities and the entire people were consulted to take policy decisions and that is the essense of democracy but what has gone wrong in all countries because every one country had a little beginning where they did things in one fold and got happy with policies. Is the kind of democracy we see today, that which was practiced in time past, where inflation was little or known, when currencies were valuable to purchase as adequate products as needed. What has really gone wrong

Do you think, if bitcoins were used as world currency, there would be no inflation and no defaults? I need your analysis, let's discuss

Bitcoin used as world currency will not guarantee no inflation. This is because IMO, miners may increase fees overtime since fiat is out. I think if miners fee begin to increase then that can reduce the value of your bitcoin, despite bitcoin being deflationary but where fiat is totally taken out, the forces of demand and supply may start to occur. I can imagine miners or exchange increasing transaction fee between $30 to $150 for transfer of $1,000 worth of bitcoin.
2400  Economy / Gambling / Re: Why don't land-based casinos have an online version? on: August 07, 2023, 01:18:49 PM

Just recently we have seen unfortunate cases where online casinos have scammed users and disappeared with their deposits, often due to unknown teams and creators behind these platforms

It is understandable that both offline and online casino are not serving same purpose, most play online because of the privacy.

I understand this point probably because of the incidence of scam where online casino just disappear without trace, at least if they had offline casino then they wouldn't disappear like that into tin air without any trace. I think to play in more reputable casino is more trusted than new ones, casinos like stake have been there, tasted and trusted with personalities that identify with them.
