The documentation in the bitcoin.org site only talks about Ubuntu but no other distros.
It's all Ubuntu-based, so it shouldn't be a problem. I would like to start a new node in some old computer I got, but the problem is, Ubuntu uses GNOME which is too much of a bloatware for my taste and specially for my older computer. Can I go off-topic and think out of the box? I prefer Linux Mint over Lubunu and Xubuntu. I've tried them all many times. I use Linux Mint on an old netbook with 1 GB RAM. It's still running Mint 17.3 (supported until April next year), and it works fine. I've used Bitcoin Core (pruned) on it for a long time, but stopped using it because it syncs too slow. If you keep it on continuously as a node, that shouldn't be a problem. I did install a SSD, but RAM and CPU are quite limited. I just tested it: Progress syncing Bitcoin Core: 0.09% per hour. You say Gnome is too bloated, but have you tried Clearlooks? I once again have a blue bar on top of my active Window (like Windows 95), my Window Manager is Makro + Compositing (instead of the bloated Compiz), I disabled all animations and 3D effects, and it feels less bloated.

I would like to delete all my posts because some of the posts i published arent updated or the services i used to sell are not available . It's easier to just lock the topics. Just keep your history, it looks supsicious you want a reset anyway.
OP has created several duplicate topics in the past, spamming it on multiple boards. To preserve it, I've archived his entire post history all here ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) i want to delete this thread
Click "Move Topic" at the bottom-left of this page, move it to Other > Archival. This is the wrong board anyway.

I have avoided Ethereum like the plage since day one mostly because of technological reasons, and when the DAO fiasco happened I felt like I proved my bias against it. I felt the same; Ethereum had one USP: "Code is law!". They broke that, which makes them a useless centrally controlled altoin. Created with one goal: make the creator rich! Having said that, from a market perspective I have to admit that Ethereum had an amazing performance during the last four months, and it's doing remarkably well during this bloody January. The market can be irrational. Right after the DAO-failure, I never expected so many people to keep buying this coin that can fork at any time! Ethereum has also been massively used by ITOs (most of them under the fake name ICO). Hundreds of them have a similar looking website, some random BS "idea", many promises, a BS roadmap, and people have been throwing a few billion dollars at them last year. Since they sell tokens running on Ethereum, it profited from this. Right now Bitcoin have a market cap of $172B, and for Ethereum it's $110B. If this trend continues we may get overpassed this quarter, and since it seems like no new money is coming to the crypto market in general I wonder if people are, for whatever reason, swapping Bitcoin for Ethereum. The Ethereum-boys have been saying that for a long time now. One way or another, it doesn't matter, Ethereum is nothing like Bitcoin. Are bad programmed smart contracts running over an insecure platform that hot for this market?
Apparently! If the DOA taught us one thing, it's that nobody understands smart contracts, which renders them useless. I haven't seen a real application yet.

Now I have the BIP38 public and private keys. So I print these. Let's call them Bitcoin address and BIP38 encrypted private key. The address isn't encrypted. In order to validate this wallet is functioning correctly, I use bitaddress.org's "wallet info" tab and enter the encrypted (6P...) private key on my paper wallet and passphrase. All good so far! Success. It opens a bunch of different addresses; the important ones I'm guessing are "Bitcoin Address" and "Bitcoin Address Compressed" I suggest to only use the Compressed address, which is what bitaddress.org uses by default. Also, "Private Key WIF 51 characters base58, starts with a '5'" and "Private Key WIF Compressed 52 characters base58, starts with a 'K' or 'L'". You'll only need the Private Key WIF Compressed to use your funds from the compressed address. I was under the impression that the "Bitcoin Address" was supposed to match the public key on my physical paper wallet, which goes along with the "Private Key WIF 51 characters base58, starts with a '5'".
However, I notice my physical paper wallets public address does not match the displayed "Bitcoin Address" from the "wallet info" tab. Instead the "Bitcoin Address Compressed" matches. By default, it uses the compressed address. This reduces fees when you make a transaction. So if I were importing and sweeping this wallet onto a hot wallet, would I use the "Encrypted Private Key (6p...)" as seen on my physical paper wallet If your wallet supports it (my phone wallet Mycelium does), you can import/sweep the BIP38 encrypted key directly and enter the password in your wallet. or the "Private Key WIF 51 characters base58, starts with a '5'" or "Private Key WIF Compressed 52 characters base58, starts with a 'K' or 'L displayed in the "wallet info" tab? This works too. Decrypting the BIP38 private key before importing/sweeping works in almost any wallet. Furthermore, is opening the wallet under "wallet details" on bitaddress.org (offline) using the encrypted private key on my paper wallet and passphrase, and seeing the matching "Bitcoin Address Compressed" to the physical paperwallet's public key in my hand, enough to verify the wallet is functioning correct and to begin sending funds to?
This is what I do too. You could be even safer by using other software to decrypt the private key, so you don't rely on bitaddress only. I've used bitcoinpaperwallet.NOWSCAMMING.com for this, although I think it uses the same engine. Before funding your paper wallet with high amounts, I suggest to make a small transaction first, and sweep it into a wallet to experience how it works. Fees aren't that high at the moment. After this transaction your paper wallet can no longer be called "cold storage": create a new one.

Please don't implement this! I can now choose to open a link in a new tab (which I often do with a simple middle-mouse-click), but for sites with _blank I can't choose to open the link on the same page. The Merit+ button opens in a new tab, unlike "Report to moderator". This limits my options as I can't open it in the same tab. Previously, user-generated links would often open in a new window/tab. However, kcud_dab found out that there are security issues with this, so I removed it. You'll have to middle-click links if you want them to open in a new tab. i'm asking for this only for external links; for internal redirection the behavior can remain as it is The same applies for external links: I can open it any way I want now. After your suggestion, I only get a new tab. btw for phone you don't have a mouse ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) , and that's why i am requesting this Hold link > open in new tab. Is that what you wanted?

Unfortunately this isn't exclusive to newbies As far as I know, there is no way for me to download all new posts. Only Newbie's posts show up in patrol. Possibly making the section self moderated threads only and the topic starter is responsible for clearing out these types of replies and if they don't do it their thread gets trashed. I make my threads self-moderated (turns out I couldn't do that in Meta). But it doesn't work if the topic starter doesn't care, I've seen self-moderated threads with hundreds of pages filled with spam. In a self-moderated thread you can use your middle-mouse on the delete-button. This opens a new tab, and deletes the post without popup asking for confirmation. This is a very fast way to delete spam. It's also started to leak into the project development section too. This is the worst part, which I've noticed too. It's one thing if they pollute the Altcoin Bounties and Off-topic boards, but reading their spam on the serious boards is much worse.

I started out with the best intentions: open patrol, and Merit some Newbie's posts. I couldn't find any, and instead, I started reporting posts. I especially dislike posts saying "great project", they don't add anything, they're probably shill-accounts, they're creating insubstantial posts to rank up, and there are hundreds of accounts doing the same! I've been downloading patrol since the AlexPromotion-spam, but only kept data from the past 6 days. I ran a case insensitive search on "great project", and in the past 6 days alone 735 different Newbie-accounts posted that phrase. My AlexPromotion-report was 100% accurate, this one is not! But when I look at the post history of these users, most of them are worthless. There are more phrases that are being reused over and over again. Example: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi65.tinypic.com%2F24cwmmb.gif&t=663&c=sm3o2jGuv4Xa2g) I found some false positives: My search included all quoted "great project" too. Some, like KeeperOfCoins clearly don't deserve to be on my list, while others, like Olaide06 are probably bots. Is this something Mods want to pursue? The entire list needs manual checking, but I expect a large part can be nuked. I am willing to manually reduce the list in some bored hours if a Mod takes action after that. My complete list (I choose clickable over code-tags): wentdreamsniffintradessamwilliamsayoelsherbenyNiko2017KunleofficialRrelXRrelbitshahzada123Walid128Viliambethlopez020808jhoanneSilver166BitcoinStreamashkie22tigerMJyangtonybogsgirish123Flex345manish2447SophyyKennethenolomakin.ivanodisomajorivorychrisAhmed4119btcdedsAlainBKKAnyone01vinodrsamsterBarry001hadroncloudFeeliksPraveen BhardwajMiddleFingerToTheManCrytomasterGmanUtrechtBLTCVyacheslav7000doctorhyipkampret4545a.zivertPaule-2345adelynkngisi93mlssirebelJahanamSceatk3jaguar66vandumenrajpaclInvested4futuremizzyaEben_olussnaptrckMontero2018sabrinamaria1Raphael93Jn_Ec9397berburu dokuxskubixTu ThanhggokidokjayhalLeckter13koplokjayarellanochixijaneaykutaksoyydebsintechloysBeforememberultimatecryptoSubzyPuff Pastry Hangmansammyonehousebrownie_somethingsaldriassfinancialfreedomcriscyptoJoekondomacayubdenpiratesparekouhCherry_The_Countessololade120JaneClaciosolid8babelynanizpkGabrielPontellojepjep00CryptovineRainmaker45mayela01klimenok1991viper1909CrackDonaldNoadconsult3Kikomoncryptouser63Sagacious18BlackCrypto29NadhilJanitrabennaniLavie1124Valz009vivekagarwalbknBarontRoManus145nicholasogbHotbaba1nistopopkerv12arbl0422segfadinKinkadeinspiredflashmoniltdfreshtytvicsyliciousSkyyatravb26AinezBitcoinerxqusimyusuffxHodl_till_homelesssyang2candyman220dz4mitmitos44IntroNumericsaintwudibackup.contact999applepie_tidbitzjayjoseDemenJoejiwangukid007tzantza_bogdanBayuanggaraDaffarajdmanuge4u2winDlex24RahulkemiegraceyYoko333myousaf002zafiramaghfurrokayabtobwesleyridhohandriyantomahdifastervoiloomarcostocco93Anthony AnhHalitimecryptadiktanhlp1neeplokiDonePrincemaduka15jamalbakkhaiemCurrency_Boyprocomkizzone69Rakovzvizgmycrypto93Kumar AugustineLarzenNatty10Q1906GarthanjesXmarritomelindMustaqeem147bobbyzzfredainenafez1Aigunawan95elemdylamididucaalfaTravels999Ahaameedasif1EnriICOPasssecretgodjkwasiuSumartiniYettybabyEric CointonaAqhi69clickmastaFrankkie2DENARO.IOvrushcUmaryeJimmy_CoinProsper01pooh111Gokay4141Zion30daosylam1990coinsolencemasterdisasterPrivat2017Bigrayzivrytwr3shirlyo17singlecrytpochuckz143roni rahmanAndrea29ishwar377FOUAD1994YangStevensWarptrooperKawsar_DAPiet246dubr0vskyAndruha1993telexnetworkPuffyreallakira1972akira2005skhanmashwaniPrasadyelmna110itssawaiGilasSMS5riqui125koolkheartHennypenny59Christopher EvesAdam Palvinherro2017yoshislandfifycurencyhekimogluburaketemhshakir15coinboy2017MercyGkemijibbz001lupee0323Assetastil3ttoDhara1capitalbtcIvolveROlaide06alaaddinhaipham195Borngreat23FelipeSanonKeeperOfCoinsAniolatttuantrausingha10angelaurumprashantcrypto2krypticcoincryptopartymuhammeday61arinze8888D2guns_21YurafTorn80betaTipuSultan24luckynegara20Feybyenelturrcobiboy01cryto_phoenixikramhaidersooybinlordwindphakud8990tharindu.somesahadatthedajinkya1396lalit01pratikawasareanilkumarakbSapnuji@Vimal1992Zantharmaah75gresh23DilipisharaEmeebisiznikiknowsnothingMaster_nodermarchendayesaginHeroofcoinadamcoin83laramcoinLucas amosTimcheerful11scholes83friendsfingersBCRDevbttmembercabaymauumakenggungagungachinny286dgcrypto2Kamal.strong365omaraha111BeurlzkarburatorRomanovicGiseleGarnetoliver1975Devil995bolarisbernard12345IrenjoshCajn1fahim786CryptoMiner88moneyneed1KomorhanOlumide1000belibis26Altamash Kkidsnowspartasparta007mvplolsamiran19tatyanaaaanaim559ivan_lzreldzinan05phantrongthiemcoldflame821cebongciliksaidur3419OMLETovichSanuStricoRaj81chadhaashishrahul338725kekesonnaderba666Nwanyieze1Carseasseb12000MarksmaniodrillsmYuniarrmspivorcointaunspanolesbalukoOliviateebethereumVictorheywhyboussaidshaman11jikookMonicgrayangeluhihuWalang-kekekFlaverflankbJeanCoinTchallapoi35bismillaaminvmazhardBillygentrrmzbaig@gmail.comoskar007CryptoPlushkinikki92Pchowgeoffromblessed101nascryptoGalacXRahim2984Hurkacoinbarat2000chizaram_vikitaangelbeatzprod4ripinCallahan93JazzyJeffkenhdautuJack tom

I've found something, it seems that anti-spam giveaway is useful in some way ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) So several of them started copy/pasting in the last few days hoping to earn Merit? At least they can't easily level up a new account now. It feels like the leaking faucet has been fixed, and now we can start mopping. I was looking for a thread like this one ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) May I suggest to keep it centralized in Mod, please check new additions: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban? I still add new posts there once in a while. Although this thread got them banned faster, my last few additions are still at large.

@cellardI've read the term Schnorr signatures before, but never fully understood it. It seems to be under development since a few years. I'm not waiting for it, fees can also just keep rising. @NeuroticFishI've added a small note on SegWit. I didn't cover it yet for two reasons: 1. The effect on the fee is much smaller than what you can safe by consolidating at the right moment. 2. I still haven't setup a SegWit wallet by myself (it on my TODO list though), so I can't speak from experience. Wind_FURY's link explains it much better than I ever can.

Friendly advice: For someone who owns this much money in Bitcoin, you know very little about how it works. May I suggest you learn more about Bitcoin before you make a very expensive mistake? Bitcoin addresses can't have a negative balance. It's impossible. Blockchain.info has bugs, the website shows a negative balance after a double spend. There's no need to "refill" that wallet, and even if you would do it, that wouldn't change anything for existing transactions. This is what I understand: 1. On December 15, you tried to send 11.23 BTC to 1MeLoYPNZbc4XfMi2PuhxWnATDnYD9VuMH, with a low fee. The transaction above will never confirm, because the inputs are used in the transaction below. It will at some point drop from mempool, and be completely forgotten. 2. On December 21, you sent 1.24 BTC to the same address, and 10 BTC to a change address. This transaction got confirmed and the funds were used again in other transactions. The unconfirmed double spend transaction that will never confirm was used as an input for other transactions. These too will never confirm, the original input has been used somewhere else already. Your wallet should drop those transactions, and stop broadcasting them. Which wallet do you use? Basically, your wallet is a bit of a mess now, by building upon unconfirmed double spend transactions. It depends on your wallet how you can best deal with this.

My first contribution to this thread: alexberezov (=account seller) conveniently went from 100 to 250 Merit on one day for these three posts: As far as I know, bounty hunters have already received their rewards I think they really want to sell rewards, but we really want to buy, we need an exchange!
Sir, unfortunately I have no more access to my eidoo wallet, and I have no seed.. If there is no way to change eidoo address for bounty reward then please do not send me my reward. Let my reward be distributed among other participants of the bounty. It's strange rules that you can not change a address.. so, I lose 15k$ in eidoo tokens This is not a loyality towards those who worked for you.. Dividends should be tomorrow, it will be slightly less than 100 dollars for 5000 coins
One of the posts is 20 days older than the rest, I don't think this was a coincidence. The 3x50 Merits came from chixka000, NetFreak199 and blo8i (=Scammer). My guess is that he used his 3 Hero-accounts to be able to rank up his Full Member to Sr. Member. Credit where credit is due:1. Mahirap left alexberezov red trust 6 days ago: " Using his/her alt accounts to send some merits to this account." 2.

Looks like a pretty cool service, and thank you very much for all of the valuable info. Can I just send you a dump of all my used BTC addresses, can you scan for forked tokens, tell me which addresses have said tokens, and I send over the priv keys? I'd happily give you 5-10% of the value for your service.
(we've discussed this in PM) General answer: Depending on how many different addresses you have, this can be quite a lot of work. Doing this manually means having to look up the balance for each address at the moment of each fork. For addresses with many transactions it's even more work to find back historic balances on a block explorer. I don't mind looking into the occasional Bitcoin address, but if it's a long list of addresses with low balance, you'll have to do this on your own. That list hasn't been updated in a month. I checked some of the websites, and they do offer wallets, but I haven't tested them yet.
I think I have many addresses that have claimable fork coins, but it does seem like a lot of work and I am terrible at tracking down change addresses. I use Core, which seems to generate many many change addresses and so I'm wondering if you would be willing to help me dig through my wallets to discover what stash is lying in wait. I can help you get started ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I am positive I have a few addresses that were around for the BCH fork, which also seems to be the most profitable fork from what I can tell. Is there any easy way to keep track of Core's Change addresses or to easily take a snapshot of a particular date in time for your wallets for quick checking? As far as I know, there is no easy way to take such a snapshot in Bitcoin Core. It can export all addresses you ever used: type listaddressgroupings in Console for the list. While I'm interested in the service, I do not want to waste either of our time and would like to do what I can to figure out where I'm at without completely doing everything for myself, since it sounds dreadful. An easy way to get an estimate is if you can remember your approximate balance on August 1, 2017 (the fork date for Bitcoin Cash) and other major fork dates that happened after this. Each Bitcoin you had is worth around $1500 in Bitcoin Cash, plus more in other forks. This should quickly tell you whether or not it's worth the effort.
Their main chain isn't launched yet.

The altcoin section, from what I've seen, has some of the most degenerate shitposters known to man--very close to the gambling section, and I'm not sure who'd take home the trophy if they wrestled. There are good posts in the Altcoin section, but they're very hard to find amongst millions of useless posts. I've merited at least three.

Thanks ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I wanted to give a more in-depth reply, but for now: if it's only 10 addresses, can you PM them to me? You'll be my first customer!

This looks like https://bitcore.cc/checker.php (which doesn't work anymore), and has the same bug: "Balance in $" is calculated from the wrong fields. Example: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fi64.tinypic.com%2F2yneypu.gif&t=663&c=wsbieBCLh3-rKQ) Thanks - I was starting to gather that. Do you know of one that works right these days? This is ridiculous and why they’re shitcoins -just throwing that out there
Just ignore the "Balance in $"-row, the Balance in Forkcoins is correct.

I hope you're certain. It's suspicious at best that this person would come back after 1 year+ and demand a loan without allowing us to ask for old wallet signatures, just because whoever was behind that account in the past was trustworthy. It makes me uneasy.
If you haven't done it yet: Read BePolarBob's post history, it's good stuff! Last time he popped up after months of inactivity was in November 2016, he instantly asked for a 1 BTC loan, got it, and repaid. This guy has trust board hanging around his neck and he's asking for a 0.01 loan ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I was expecting him to give the 0.01 away instantly, he calls it buying earning trust. BiPolarBob: although we haven't met, I just want to say: you're quite a character! I'm a big fan ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) (I am not saying that he's trying to scam but caution would be great as we have seen so many hacked accounts asking for loans in this section.)
If anyone would manage to hack his account, he could get a much higher loan in a heartbeat! Of course, he'd have to post an addy to get it.
