Anyways, I went on Bitcoin.com, created a wallet, had the choice between buying bitcoin cash and bitcoin Core, I didn't even think I went for bitcoin cash because it was the first one on the list and I thought that is what I needed. Bitcoin.com is owned by some guys promoting their Bitcoin Cash and pretending it is the real Bitcoin. They literally say so in the title of this article. Basically, the site Bitcoin.com is responsible for confusing clueless newbies, and in a way they scammed you into buying an inferior Forkcoin. So if your man received something, let's say he expected Bananas and got Apples. More like: He expected you to leave the Bananas in his mailbox, but instead you left Apples in his garage. Unless you tell them where you put them, it's unlikely for him to notice any time soon. What you need to do, is inform your seller that you accidentally sent him Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoin. You can ask if he accepts that payment, or otherwise kindly request him to return it to you. This means extra work for the seller, as he'll have to export his private keys to another wallet. Fine he can tell me you sent me the wrong fruits but he cannot claim that he didn't get a bite from the apples I sent him and on top of that diss me a call me a liar. Your seller didn't take a bite, the apples are still there. I understand both sides of this deal. Try to keep friendly communications open. I Love putting my trust into people, my word is my bond and I was very excited to make my first payment using Bitcoin....Cash (you see am learning). But that's fine, it's about a 100EUR, you live you learn, like the saying goes fool me once...That will make me more vigilant. For the remainder of your Bitcoin Cash: there are several ways of exchanging it into (real) Bitcoin. If interested, just respond here ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I won't give up on Bitcoins or Bitcoins Cash, I love the concept and if this community is anything to go by then I definiltely want to be part of this journey ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Welcome to the community! One warning though: when you say you love trusting people, you're going to be highly disappointed very soon. Anonymous money is very attractive for many scammers, so be very careful who you trust. Received. I gave you 1 merit, and I see jackg did the same -- does this mean that we both are a confirmed alt of you? It think you used Merits as a "Like", but that's not how it's supposed to be used: I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by: ~ - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.
Please try to merit posts that other people might find interesting, since top-merited posts show up on the stats. Also, now people have been shifting to SegWit addresses, what is the direct (positive) result that you noticed?
Bitcoin fees went down already, although I don't think there is a direct relationship. Three weeks ago DarkStar_ paid $188 fee, today $5. SegWit addresses don't safe on fees when receiving transactions, the savings happen when you make a payment from a SegWit address.

Thanks for listing my services! I've started another one which I think will fit the "other services" section. I don't want to be the one posting a direct link, but you can find it in my "last topics".

Tried all the variations you suggested on m/44'/0'/0' ... but no go. Guess thats 5 mBtc lost forever. Don't give up yet! You can use https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ (download and use it offline!) to go though all the derivation paths until your address pops up.

I agree to most of your post, but there's one thing I disagree with: Furthermore I think it is worth considering sMerits not being spendable/giftable to legendary accounts, they are effectively wasted as there is nowhere for them to progress from Legendary. Merits can also be used to select posts worth reading. By excluding certain members, you make Merits less valuable to the forum. I assume (in the long term) theymos will give all sources combined enough sMerits to give them to all members who post quality. If 50% goes to Legendary members, the total can just be doubled. Update: I forgot to add Legendary members can also "pay it forward" by giving away the sMerit they receive with their Merits. If you exclude Legendary members from receiving Merit, you also exclude the most experienced users from giving them away.

By friends he probably means "friends" aka alt accounts. This is only a short-term solution for bad posters to rank up. Before long, they'll all be out of sMerit, and won't get any new ones unless they improve their post quality. If I take a look at the Bounties-board, barely anyone has earned any Merit. They may have 100, 250, 500 or 1000 Merit points, but none of them earned by their post quality. What's the use of a Legendary member posting "I'm in."? After decaying unused sMerits in the future, it would be interesting if all accounts lose 1 Merit each Activity period. That would mean a Legendary shitposter suddenly turns into a Hero Member with 999 Merit. Merits will never have a value
My signature campaign already announced to require all participants to have earned at least 10 Merits four weeks from now. That gives a (large) monetary value to Merit. Update: this won't be required yet. Moving to merit is an awesome way for campaign managers to handle applications. I've managed giveaway campaigns for over a year, and would have loved this feature! Fake Merits are easy to spot by checking the post it's given for. Going through everyone's post history to determine if they're just giveaway abusing alt-accounts or real people is a lot more work.

Your IP address is irrelevant for finding your balances. I don't use Bitcoin Core, but if i'm right, you should able to find list your bitcoin address at "Receive" tab or "File then receiving or sending addresses".
This doesn't include change addresses. For the complete list: Click Help > Debug window > Console > enter listaddressgroupings.

2. Paper wallet: Use https://segwitaddress.org/ on a Linux booted from live CD or USB stick (offline) and write down or print (preferably on a dumb printer with no memory/internet connection). Then store somewhere safe. This works. Writing it down is recommended though; the term "paper wallet" is literal: you'll have to write it on a piece of paper. Writing makes mistakes likely, use a printer. You can download it from Github. It's open source, but I can't verify the source by myself. I haven't read anything bad about it, but I'd be very careful which (quite new) website/software I trust to create private keys. I'd feel more secure using an offline Electrum to generate a seed phrase (write this down!), and print addresses and private keys from there. This is more work though.

My ServiceMost Forkcoins can't be deposited to any trustworthy exchange yet. That means I can't really offer the service I want to offer yet, so I'll just keep this here until it becomes available. Gate.io takes Forkcoin-deposits, but it has many scam accusations and I don't trust it. I can already offer my service for Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold and BitCore.General note: never give your private key or word seed phrase to anybody! If you're not the sole owner of your private keys, you're not the owner at all! If you want me to claim your forked coins for you, you're going to have to give me your private key(s). Now, read the sentence above this again. Are you confused yet? That was intentional to make you realize what you're about to do!
If you decide to use my services, notify me first. If it comes to the point where you're going to send me private keys, do not just PM them! Before sending any private keys, move your Bitcoins to a new secure wallet! Also move the Forkcoins to a new address on as many forked chains as you can do on your own. This reduces the risk by securing the majority of your funds by yourself.
My fee is negotiable: make me an offer! Each address requires quite some work per fork, it won't be worth my time and the Bitcoin fees doing this for very small amounts. Why trust me Check LoyceV's Legendary Campaign/Services Portfolio to see what campaigns I have managed in the past. Check Payments to see me share about $1220 after the June 2017 Byteball airdrop. Subsequent comments testify to this. See my Trust summary (click "Untrusted feedback"). Check my staked address to see my account is not hacked. Full disclosure: for LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Experiment: STARTED I still have altcoins currently worth about $1600 entrusted to me. If this isn't enough: you don't have to use my services, and you're still welcome to post comments!

Update (May 11, 2022): See the next post for my Fork claiming service. Note that most of the Forkcoins mentioned here are no longer worth anything, and prices have dropped significantly. There are however still 5 Forkcoins worth claiming. LoyceV's Bitcoin Fork claiming guide (and service)I wasn't sure what board to post this on, so I decided to make it informative and a service at the same time. I will only list methods, wallets and exchanges that I have used by myself. Why Bitcoin Cash has opened the floodgates to countless more Bitcoin forks. It's almost impossible to keep track, several websites show all possible forks, Coinmarketcap shows many forked coins already, but most forks don't have a working wallet yet. As much as I dislike forks, once they do have a working wallet, I'll happily exchange them for real Bitcoins!Start You need to know which one of your addresses held Bitcoin during each fork. If you use many (change) addresses, it can be quite a lot of work to find them all. I suggest to list them all in a spreadsheet, and check each address for each fork.Precautions My favourite precaution is being very careful. Assume any wallet can steal your money, and try all you can to prevent that from happening. Be very careful not to send Forkcoins to the wrong chain! I don't trust many wallets, so I use a VM for anything I install on my PC. An alternative would be using another computer. Some of the new Forkcoins have a very wide spread in trading price (see the Markets-tab on CMC), and not all of the exchanges accept deposits (or withdrawals) for each Forkcoin. Be very careful which exchange you trust.Bitcoin Forks and Wallets ( Note: values in this table are outdated, check Coinmarketcap.com for the current value)
* This is just an indication at the time of writing, click the link for the current price. ** I don't trust HitBTC after reading many accusations against them, but it worked for me. *** Use Bither to import the private key, then send the coins to the Bitpie wallet (this takes quite high transaction fees). (It's unclear to me why these features can't be combined in the one wallet). Also available on iOS: Bither (I didn't get this to work) and Bitpie. **** Only listed because Bitpie wallet supports them, I have no further information. Help me update this list Please help me to keep this thread (and the table above) up-to-date: If a legit wallet and exchange are available for an unlisted fork, please post it and I'll add it to the list. I'll only list Forkcoins with at least a working wallet. How to claim forks 1. Setup a new secure Bitcoin wallet (create backups!), and move all your Bitcoins from your old wallet to your new wallet. To avoid confusion later, label your old wallet (I suggest "compromised for forks") and make sure nobody is going to send any Bitcoin to any of the addresses anymore. Don't delete your old wallet. 2. Wait until your Bitcoins are confirmed on their new addresses. 3. Export the private keys to the addresses that hold Forkcoins. 4. Start with the most valuable fork, and work your way downwards from there. That means Bitcoin Cash comes first, followed by Bitcoin Gold. 5. Install a Forkcoin wallet. Make sure this wallet can't compromise the rest of your system. 6. Import one private key at a time (this reduces the risk if you installed a rogue wallet), and send it to the exchange of your choice. 7. Repeat steps 4-6 for all other forks.Special cases See this post if your coins are stuck in multisig. See this post if your coins were sent to a pubkey instead of an address (this is rare, but was common back in the early days of Bitcoin)Investment advice I don't give investment advice ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Be very careful when you're investing in forks! Altcoins, ICOs and forks are created for only one goal: earn money for the creators! The basic concept is very simple: create a fork, premine 100,000 coins for yourself, hype it, and earn millions of dollars profit! Then, do it again with another name. That's the only reason we have so many forks now, and it's the reason I recommend to stay away from forks. You can speculate, but remember it's not Bitcoin. This thread is only meant to aid in selling, not buying. No spam All my threads are now self-moderated to stop signature spam. I will remove all irrelevant posts. If you quote the entire OP, your entry will be deleted. Once in a while I'll summarize posts and clean up this thread.Disclaimer Use this information at your own risk. At all times, think before each action, especially when you're dealing with private keys. When in doubt, don't do it! I'm human, I make mistakes. If something is incorrect, please let me know.Useful links 0. I explain how to use Bitpie Exchange here 1. How to get Bitcoin Cash from many wallet/software/services with Coinomi (explains how to export private keys from most wallets) 2. BTC Forks Balance (supports only selected forks) 3. Hey Loyce I was wondering is it possible to make a segwit P2SH vanity address?
It is possible, user nullius build a SegWit address generator for P2SH and Bech32 addresses. Start reading from here. I haven't tried it yet though, and you'll have to do it on your own to get a secure private key (there's no split key support).

The first one is CCCP (all caps please), public key for this one is 0469EF182B02BF51EB1678E234734DC254B6799EE2B16170C2619B0CA7C1655FF33EA01E93EFDA6 9F3DD8BAFDAB14A4F710B07515867E1A54705443E4DB85E93EC Since it's so short, I've added a 1 behind it to make it look better. It took only a few seconds anyway:[/quote] Address: 1 CCCP1efk1V3aTVpBC8CVauoBFe66Pccmj (Balance: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbtc-priceimg.herokuapp.com%2Fbalance%2F1CCCP1efk1V3aTVpBC8CVauoBFe66Pccmj%2F00f&t=663&c=B-beAImnC-MIPw) ) PrivkeyPart: 5J7ykENdmvcWEbducQwnGZzrTxVJMFkJ2x3GGocmi17EuhwBpbL Second one is MANUTD (all caps) with different public key and I want to pay/donate in advance with ETH, just tell me how much. I will send you ETH and then you post the partial private key. Starting with 1M isn't that difficult (20 minutes for 50% chance), so I can do this one for free. Just post a public key. No need for a donation (and I don't use Ethereum).

Jr. Member Sudhik should be banned. He copied all text in this post, but left certain lines from the source. Copy: This recomended wallet for you : 1: Paper wallet or other cold storage. A paper wallet is simply a document that contains all the information you need to generate the bitcoin private keys you need. 2: Ledger or Trezor (hardware wallets/dongles). These dongles both make the best bitcoin wallet list because of their safety and mobility. Plus, they're good enough for professional investors. 3: Electrum (software wallet). Electrum is a popular, free storage option in the bitcoin community, and is one of the most, if not the most, well-respected desktop storage apps out there. 4: Blockchain.info (online wallet). Exchanges are ripe pickings for ambitious hackers. 5: Coinbase (online exchange). In here you not only can buy, sell, exchange and trade bitcoin on Coinbase, but you can store your bitcoin in a wallet there, too.
I recommend using a paper wallet so you have a physical backup of the private key. Thanks

Any chance you used a mining pool back in 2013, that required you to claim your share?
|
|

Electrum can do this if you have an online computer and an offline (air gapped) computer. Both options should indeed work, and Electrum is the easier option. If you go for Coinb.in, make sure you Verify the transaction before broadcasting (also check how much fee you're paying)! If you use Electrum, it still doesn't hurt to Verify the transaction before broadcasting. My long-term strategy for cold storage require me to have multiple paper wallets with small quantities. I have the same strategy, but it becomes increasingly annoying to claim all the forks.

I get the point alright, but I think it won't work, because you are relying on the benevolence of total strangers who are supposed to do you a favor even though they gain absolutely nothing from it. You're wrong here: I gain a lot from improving the post quality on this forum. I have reported many bad posts, and the spam only got worse. I see Merits as the opposite: I can now reward good posts! Of course I'll keep doing that. I already think a Jr. Member with 35 Merit has much more interesting posts to read than a Legendary with exactly 1000 Merit (which means nobody gave anything to more than 1000 posts).

Try using an older version of the Kernel then. When I searched for "Toshiba C655d-S5200 ubuntu ethernet" on Google, I got hits from 2011 and 2012. Back then, they recommended a kernel upgrade, or manually installing drivers for the Realtek chipset. This should give you the chipset number: I suggest to start your search from the chipset number: search Google for example for "RTL8188CE ubuntu freezes", see if something useful pops up.

It was stuck so I believed it will be abadoned in time. This is a bad assumption: once broadcasted, someone can always broadcast it again. That means it can get confirmed later, unless you make the transaction invalid by double spending the input to another address. I asked the owner of the wallet 3FcJ5qSBExencX5eowGJwrPBnfKX41FrXK if he received another payment and he told me checked on his ledger wallet GUI and he received it but it was tagged as double spending and then the print screen he sent me only show one TX.
I checked a block explorer and you can see the two txs. What is happening how can he confirm the other tx ? I have no experience with Ledger, but the transaction is confirmed and he received his payment twice ( here and here). Could I receive BTC from a wallet and check +6 confirmations and then lose those BTC because the same BTC were sent to another wallet with a high fee but "abandoned" No. For this to happen would mean miners have to forget the last 6 blocks. Think about 51% attacks for this scenario to happen.

is it safe to install the electrum cash wallet on the same machine? i have read you should empty your electrum wallet and do it on another machine. maybe thats over cautious?
The safe approach is not trusting it, and taking precautions. You're talking about large amounts of money, so being very careful doesn't hurt. I don't trust Electron Cash on my system (note the correct spelling, many phishing sites try to give you compromised wallets!), so I use it in a VM just to be sure. It worked fine without problems though. The real site: Electron Cash.
