hehe  Cheesy

Undecided

245  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB]¬MYCELLUM ENTROPY USB on: November 14, 2017, 09:43:37 PM
IMHO if you create private keys for others you better not fuck this up. So for max security I would use a true rng to generate those.

So whith mycelium entropy you don't have to worry about the randomness of your rng.

246  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB]¬MYCELLUM ENTROPY USB on: November 14, 2017, 04:46:39 PM
Oh so Mycellium is just a brand/type of "entropy device"?

Yes.. indeed.

They are best known for their BTC wallet that you can find here: https://wallet.mycelium.com/

They do have other projects as well: https://mycelium.com/index.html

isn't it just as easy to save the bitaddress.org webpage to your desktop, sign offline, and then print via non wireless connection?

Best practise states that creation of private keys are done on a computer that has never and will never, see any network during its life as a Keymaker. This also goes for the printer used to print out the keys.

Viz

This is correct.

If you want to be "safe" you can get a cheap or old laptop, remove any wifi cards from it or network functionality (as in remove the actual wifi card).

Wipe the hard drive or put in a fresh one.

You have a few options to either download and install an offline program like bitaddress (via a usb stick) , or run a program like bitaddress off a new or clean usb stick.

Find and buy a laser printer with no network functionality, meaning no wifi, no network cable, - usb only. (wasn't as easy as you'd think with all of todays wireless crap built in , out there)

Connect your non networked laser printer via usb to your "air gapped" laptop (no network connections to the internet or otherwise)

Run the program of your choice, and send the output to your laser printer.

Now you have generated an offline paper wallet which you can laminate if you wish or store safely as cold storage.

If anyone finds that paper, which will in most circumstances have the private key on it, which is usually next to the QR code and public key, they can simply use it to claim the funds.

So keep this in a secure place you wouldn't want anyone to find.

There are many other ways to accomplish the end result , this is simply one of them.

I hope that may help someone looking to set something like this up in a secure manner.

thanks!

Yep did exactly that with a new laptop and printer just for offline wallets. But did not physically remove the wifi card. I disabled the wifi from connecting to anything at all. Also BIP encrypted your wallet so in case anyone does find it they will have a hard time figuring out the password!

Even if you generate your private keys offline it is insecure if you use an unreliable rng. So you need true random numbers for max security which is where mycelium entropy kicks in. The Initial state of SRAM cells when switched on is truly random. Another truly random process for example is atomic radiation.‎

248  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: signing message from segwit adress on: November 13, 2017, 08:12:11 PM
Message signing is done with private and public keys. Addresses are neither of those; the are representations of an output script. You can't sign with an output script. Signing a message with an address should never have been called that in the first place; the address is not a public key so it can't be used to sign or verify anything. So no, it is technically impossible because it is impossible to know what script you want a public key to map to to get the address a message was signed with.
Thank you for your fast reply.

Yeah I know that public key is not the public adress.
Nevertheless with old adress format it is possible to 'sign' a message but with segwit adress it's not. Why is that?

How do you plan to generate the private keys?
If you like/need I can lend you a mycelium entropy.

Awesome!  Grin

I'm happy there is trust but I still think I'll speak with you MJ because things can always go wrong.

How long should we make this inusrance policy? 1 month? two?

And Lincoln! Awesome, yes please! I'd pay rent on it in notes Wink

Deal! Smiley

For all people who don't know what a mycelium entropy is:
https://mycelium.com/mycelium-entropy.html

It is a device for generating true random numbers in a reliable way using SRAM. This is very important for secure private keys. Unfortunatly you can't buy this product any more.

I wonder why they no longer sell this Sad

Imho back at the time 2013(?) this device didn't sell very well so after batch 1 they decided to stop production. In addition there some important people left the company.
250  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / signing message from segwit adress on: November 13, 2017, 04:26:26 PM
Hi there,

I was wondering the othe day when will it possible to sign a message when using a segwit adress. It is an important feature to me and I still didn't transfer most of my funds to a segwit adress because segwit adresses lack this feature.

Is there a timeline available when a standard for signing with segwit wil be available or is it technical impossible to do?

257  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Bitcoin vs. Segwit2X Hard-Fork on: November 09, 2017, 12:11:23 PM

258  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Bitcoin vs. Segwit2X Hard-Fork on: November 09, 2017, 06:38:46 AM
https://blockchain.info/de/charts/mempool-size?timespan=60days

https://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/Kryptogeld-Wallet-Parity-Bug-friert-Ether-Einheiten-im-Wert-von-Millionen-ein-3882902.html

Code is the law. Until it's not! Cheesy alles klar...
