241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] LitecoinWidget: bitcoin / altcoin price widget for android on: December 02, 2013, 08:23:42 AM
Hi

i'm using your widget for a half year and so far everything was good. but lately i have added a Namecoin widget for BTC-e and its not working properly. The price it displays usually 0.5$ higher than the real one on the website.

How can I fix this?

This should be fixed in the newest version. It now pulls the USD price directly from btc-e's NMC/USD market.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: November 25, 2013, 06:04:32 PM
Why?

Hm... Good question. I believe as a protection against copy-pasters who love to launch cryptoclones. Stakeholders paid real money, they wouldn't be happy if someone launched a clone.

What assurances do I have that it's not a wallet-stealing trojan?
243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin on: November 25, 2013, 08:59:48 AM
Pardon for asking if it's already been answered, but where can I get access to the source code? I don't see it in the OP, I can't find a website for NXT, and it's not showing up when I google. Thanks.

The source code will be released on the 3rd of January (if most of stakeholders vote for that). All that we have now is SHA256 hash of the source files.

Why?

https://data.btcchina.com/data/trades seems to be working intermittently (not at this moment, but I think it was earlier today)

249  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [OFFICIAL]Bitfinex.com first Bitcoin P2P lending platform for leverage trading on: November 22, 2013, 06:58:59 AM

My reasoning is that the problem is perception: what your platform offers is brilliant; actually it looks too easy to people. It looks so natural that traders think it just must be this way and they have a right for exploiting all those arbitrage possibilities. That's why I am proposing to let people "feel" the strain. Whenever there is excessive buying on Bitstamp, this would decrease a certain visible indicator and at the same time make buying on Bitstamp automatically more and more expensive. Selling on Bitstamp and trading on the internal exchange would not be affected. (And the other way round when the liquidity problem is somewhere else) This way, the Ask side of Bitstamp would be moved up in the combined orderbook, which creates the incentive to sell at that higher rate. Of course you make an additional gain margin this way, which needs to be spend in a way which feels justified to the users. You could e.g. pick up the other proposal and let lenders participate on that additional margin, on the condition that they agree to lock their money for at least xx days (so you can send it to Bitstamp and use it there for some time).

The basic idea is to create a continuous feedback loop. So that money on Bitstamp won't be exhausted entirely, since buying on Bitstamp becomes exessively overpriced. This way the system would regulate itself. You would just need to define that automatic, controlling factor such, that it truthfully reflects the efforts, costs and limited bandwidth of the real-world connection between Bitfinex and Bitstamp.

This sounds pretty groovy to me.

251  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: November 19, 2013, 10:06:28 AM
Just got another USD Swift withdrawal from mtgox (to a US bank). This was paying the 5% currency conversion fee charged by their japanese bank, and it took WAY more than a week this time, more like 3-4 weeks.
Was this a small or large amount? Small amounts seem to go through at the moment.

Pretty sure no USD or swift withdrawals of any kind for the past few months. Small quantities of EUR arrive in European bank accounts via SEPA with massive delay (6 weeks give or take). Those with JPY accounts in Japan have had a bit better luck. Fortunately the decentralized method of moving money seems to work just fine still.

253  Economy / Securities / Re: FPGA Mining Contract on: November 18, 2013, 08:11:11 PM
We're still mining, but it's definitely getting close to the "not-worth-it" point. One issue is that each payment needs to be over 0.00005430 BTC for the client to send it, and with the shares spread out over so many people, the payment per account is tiny until it has been mining for months. I made a payment today almost 3 months since the last one and there will still some accounts that were under that limit. I had to manually remove those and will need to carry over the unpaid earnings for the next payment... an extra pain in the neck for me.

So, my plan at the moment is to just continue letting the FPGAs do their thing, and checking on the earnings occasionally. When it's enough for the majority of shareholders to receive a payment, I'll make one. I'll keep an eye on the difficulty/price ratio and not mine when the cost of power outweighs the earnings. At that point, we should discuss selling the boards off. Thoughts on that plan?

Today's payment txid: 986d9a5048e9b29ed4af96c3868f981955e645b9529c3ff93e511751480a91b0

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a reasonable plan. It might be nice to update this thread about once a month or so if it's not too much trouble, just to keep in contact.
254  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Just-Dice.com : Invest in 1% House Edge Dice Game on: November 16, 2013, 07:20:11 AM
How about an ad on Let's Talk Bitcoin? Another dice site (not naming names) recently did an ad on there and I thought it was pretty effective.

You could get Stephanie to do the voice acting. I'm thinking plug the 1% house edge, the fast offchain action, the fact that you can be the house, and the 4.4 million coins wagered (maybe other stuff too).

Just an idea.
255  Economy / Securities / Re: FPGA Mining Contract on: November 15, 2013, 08:12:55 PM
There haven't been any payouts anymore for a long time.
And the official homepage does not exist anymore.

Has this contract been canceled without notice?

Probably makes sense to cancel it, what with the hashrate being what it is. That said, a proper winddown and final payout would be nice. Not sure if there's any money to be gained by liquidating the cards, but that might be a nice gesture too.

Just completed another successful bitcoinstore transaction. I think that makes 3, never any major issues. (though I have a minor gripe or two with the website UI)
257  Economy / Service Discussion / Btcchina API discussion on: November 09, 2013, 07:03:51 AM
Up until today, I had been using https://data.btcchina.com/data/orderbook for the order book, but it stopped updating when things got busy. I discovered that the authenticated API has an order book method: "getMarketDepth" that is updating properly (though it sends a warning that the method is deprecated).

Now trade data is another story. Again, https://data.btcchina.com/data/trades is not updating. Yet there must be a real time feed somewhere, as BitcoinWisdom is getting updates as I write this. Does anyone know how?

Please use this thread to collect other tips about the Btcchina API.

Also, a copy of the API documentation can be found here (the documentation wiki site is currently down): https://github.com/timmolter/XChange/issues/191#issuecomment-27330764
258  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: November 08, 2013, 12:14:45 AM
Some pools, noteably GHash.IO and Eligius, use their own proprietary fee settings, and normal transactions don't always make their standards.  Stay away from those pools if you mine.  Those pools delay transactions for their own profit (smaller blocks propagate faster, and are less likely to get orphaned), and stand in the way of further growth.

Can you post some links to further information about the behaviors of these pools?

Thanks.

I do believe "bitcoin new all time high" https://www.predictious.com/economics/bitcoin-new-all-time-high-2013/reach-266 has been reached and this contract should be settled.
