241  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 15, 2015, 07:22:28 AM
I've ordered today!
That's like getting into mining for the first time again  Grin.

Hopefully ASIC mining will be fun as GPU mining was.

Good for you! You are able to get free electricity, right?

... why need free to make the sp20 worth it?

Without cheap electricity its hard to reach ROI on an SP20 to be honest at current BTC prices.

Lets make things interesting by calculating an average of 3-4% diff jumps every 13 days @ .11 kw/hr.  Mined btc drops by 40% in 90 days.

those diff jumps will grind to a halt quickly though. unless the price pushes past $250 its unlikely difficulty will exceed 55B until the next generation of hardware is available.

once spring comes and things warm u, a lot of home miners have to sell or turn off gear to keep cool and save money when summer electricity rates begin

Its not just home miners, big farms and their speeds are impacted by the heat as well.

Remember not all miners are in the northern hemisphere.  It's slowly warming up on the top side of the planet, but the bottom side is slowly cooling down.

M

While that's true, I'd be really surprised if there was much large scale mining going on in the southern hemisphere.  Power prices in Australia are outrageous, as well as most of South America.  I don't know how power pricing runs in Africa generally.

You do realize that half of the world is in the southern hemisphere. How do you come about your assumptions?  Roll Eyes

Because I've built datacenters in Australia, Brazil and Argentina as well as in Europe and the US?  Dealing with electricity costs and stability in the southern hemisphere in my experiences have been far more difficult than in the North.  Electricity costs for industrial electricity are above $.11 USD in most of South America whereas in China and the US you can find electricity for about $.015 USD for industrial in certain areas.  Something else to consider is almost 90% of the world's population lives in the Northern hemisphere.

It's funny that everyone assumes Kano is a Christian, and not Atheist or Agnostic.

So sorry for your loss Kano.

Kano, do you think it would be possible to put up running percent averages for the last 10, 20 and 40 blocks on the stats page?  I keep it in a spreadsheet just because I'm anal like that, but it'd be nice to see right there.

Boo, I've been told I have to turn about half my hashing power off mon-fri during work hours, the fans are bothering some folk.

look into sound proofing mats that can be nailed up. They are not as expensive as you think. I use them as I am next to a stairwell and the heavy door slamming shut every 5 mins was driving nuts.

That's a great idea, thanks.

Funny to see this block at only 150% after so long near 5PH/s

Hello, I am spinning up my sp20's and im running into a problem with the Username to the pool.. I use slushs pool, and I have knc miners working fine using my user.worker username, but the sp20's must be reporting something different cause for the sp20s the pool is dropping all the sp20's into there user.[auto] worker..

I double and triple checked the worker names on both pool and user.worker name on the spondoolies no spaces ect..

Please help.

Thanks
chicagoleo

Have you registered your workers with slush?  I use it as a backup on my farm without issue on sp20s

I have my pools configured to run westhash/nicehash when they go over 0.0199 per the password field, but it doesn't appear that they're switching.  Westhash is currently at 0.025 right now, is there something else that's required to get that to work properly?  I configured the pools and restarted the miner, but it still shows cgminer 4.7.0, and I think it needs to be running 4.8.0 for this to work, right?

I'm running the latest test firmware from SP, 2.6.9

I think that I read on Westhash site that the password figure you pass is compared to the published SHA256 amount on their front page, which is currently around 0.0145. It doesn't compare to the highest current order.

Ah, that makes sense!

Thanks!

Is cgminer supposed to be upgraded automatically when the firmware is upgraded? I just performed the firmware upgrade on one of my SP20s and it still shows cgminer 4.7.0 on the dashboard page.
Try a Reboot from the miner's home page.  That's what did it (cgminer 4.8.0) for me.

I've upgraded all my SP20's to firmware 2.6.1 and have done reboots on all of them. The dashboard page still shows cgminer4.7.0 .

I'm running 2.6.9 on all mine and have the same issue, cgminer4.7.0

I am wondering if it would be possible to run an SP-20 with a single CX-750 with lowered voltage settings any thoughts what the settings would be or if it's feasible?

Easily.

I run two SP20s off of a single EVGA 1300G2 and get around 1.2GH/s each from them.

.63 volts to start
.661 max
units 1/3 160W max
units 2/4 180W max
Auto fan

well, it means that you are using up to 1360W on a 1300W PSU (or 1455-1496W at the wall).
This is probably OK, but I try to keep my power below 1420-1440W (on one 110-120V/15A circuit), also running two on one circuit.

I'll have to plug the kill-a-watt in again, but I didn't think it read nearly that high last time.

259  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Primary wallet, all incoming deposits show 0 confirms, what do? on: January 27, 2015, 01:25:50 AM
This happened to me occasionally when I was using 0.92.3, a DB rebuild and Bitcoin Qt restart usually fixed it for me.

Thanks man, I wound up having to install on another machine, works fine now.

weird.

Pool shows 4.6ph/sec rollin, but none of my miners can connect, they all rolled over to their backups.

I don't think that calculates in the zeros for the last 2 hours.

The site is also not grabbing the last network block.

Yeah, I see what you mean, shows last network block 170 minutes ago.

Ah well, kano needs to sleep sometimes Smiley
