"Maybe if Warren Buffet paid a little bit more than just 17.7 percent we wouldn't be in this revenue problem that we're in. Rich people honestly need to start paying their fair share. They are paying the lowest tax rates, of any industrialized country in the world."

Seriously?... your going try to make Buffet look like a bad guy? You think he has 50 billion sitting in a bank account?  His net worth is based on stock in the company he has built most of his life. Even though he has this enormous wealth from his company stock he probably lives below the means of your neighbors.

Buffet has pledged to give away 99% of his wealth upon his death. Not doing the standard big inheritance is something I totally agree with as long as it is by his own decision and not a forced government theft.. Still not enough for lefties... you think he needs to sell the ownership of his company to fund the entitlement state right this second.

This prevailing attitude in America makes me want to vomit. I don't care what anyone says.. a flat tax is the only "fair" tax rate if you understand how percentages work.. and most liberals don't or don't care.

Buffet: "I don't have a problem with guilt about money. The way I see it is that my money represents an enormous number of claim checks on society. It's like I have these little pieces of paper that I can turn into consumption. If I wanted to, I could hire 10,000 people to do nothing but paint my picture every day for the rest of my life. And the GDP would go up. But the utility of the product would be zilch, and I would be keeping those 10,000 people from doing AIDS research, or teaching, or nursing. I don't do that though. I don't use very many of those claim checks. There's nothing material I want very much. And I'm going to give virtually all of those claim checks to charity when my wife and I die"

Buffet... of all the people to point the a finger at. (shaking head)
Did you even take the time to look at the video I posted. I think you will like it Smiley .

I watched the Yahoo one I just reposted about , it was filled with nonsense and party line BS not fit for consumption (like most presidential propaganda sessions). I will try the other two.

I just really respect Buffet for being so down to earth and his personal finance decisions.

I agree, at the very least if we could get the balanced budget Constitutional amendment in it would force the logical conclusions that we cannot continue as we are. This will FORCE massive spending cuts and or massive tax increases and we will need to prioritize what government does instead of overspending just because we can. It is funny to hear Obama's reasoning for not wanting the constitutional amendment.
I don't think even the Republicans take that amendment seriously. The economic situation the US is in right now is the best proof of why it's a bad idea. What did Obama say about it?
I know it probably won't work but that would be awesome if it did instead of waiting for the eventual  pain.

The link on Obama's stance on the amendment was in an earlier post. What made me laugh was:
"The constitution already tells us to do our jobs, and to make sure that the government is living within its means and making responsible choices." (so we don't need the Constitutional amendment)
Just wow....

nobody's trying to make buffet look like a bad guy.  and he isn't.  that's why he understands that he should be paying mucho mas in taxes.

what was the top tax rate, when this country was at its best across the board?  when was that?

do you even know?

Sounds like material straight from a Michael Moore film... same arguments.

According to this logic this argument will be made over and over until the rates are at their highest level.

Just because somebody  can look at a 90%+ tax rate and come to the conclusion it is unjust does not make them an idiot.  I am  so sick of hearing about the top 2% with Obama and his distortion of "fair".

I'm a Libertarian and not at all a fan of our big stupid government.  The fact is though, our big stupid government has already agreed to spend money above the current debt limit.  At the minimum, we need to raise it enough to pay our current obligations.

I'm all for drastically reducing the amount of money we waste on welfare and NASA and foreign aid but for now we pay what we owe.

The fact that people like you are advcating for flat taxes are why the US is in massive debt with some of the lowest tax rates in the world (that are still apparantly "too high" despite repeated cuts). If people don't want to support a country they live in they can fuck the hell off and live in whatever third world shithole they want.

Americans who disagree with a graduated tax structure are no less "American" than the socialists who put the programs in place that are going to demand more and more resources even though I wish they would move to fucking Cuba.

Warren Buffett has publicly stated that it is shameful that his secretary pays a larger percentage of her income in taxes than he does.  He himself believes taxes on the wealthy (all the wealthy, not just him of course) should be increased.

Understanding that here is different types of income that is taxed differently is key. His salary is 100,000$ (or similar) the rest of his income is from stock dividends.  Nothing is preventing people that think they should pay more in taxes from doing so. Might as well flush it down the toilet.

I don't think he will win but the further he makes it the better. It is up to the people to fund the best people for goverment and I think he is currently the best person that reflects my views. If the people won't personaly fund candidates like this other organizations end up making the descisions for us. Donating is more important than voting.

I thought the tea party was at least named the tea party after the Rick Santelli rant on CNBC. I was watching that day and it was quite a good rant. I am cool with the tea party as long as they don't bring religion into it ... I think tea party has been targeted and labeled by groups with allot of money and media outlets. I don't know how they make the connections with the libertarian type views of the tea party people and racism..

I use " /affinity 1 " in the launching batch file for the miners (windows) this forces the process to be run on one core. Speed is not effected but it does let the CPU throttle down the other cores for wattage/heat benefits (If using a multi core).
250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What price is high enough? on: June 08, 2011, 12:30:00 AM

How much higher does the price need to go for you to cash out of your bitcoins? What are the reasons why you are not selling now? Is it that you expect the currency to appreciate further? Or are there any other reasons why you are not cashing out?

If you think we're here treating this thing as some kind of ponzi scheme so we can 'cash out', you're completely missing the point and true intent of Bitcoin.  Sure, I'm sure (unfortunately) there are plenty of pump&dumpers here.. it's to be expected.  However our dream and objective is to actually use this currency as a *replacement*, not as a way to get rich in FIAT-money denominated terms.   I want to be able to spend Bitcoin anywhere.  I'd actually be happy to see the pump&dumpers and speculators leave, so I can buy more Bitcoin at a cheaper price.

The more intelligent here are holding onto their coins and riding out the inevitable bumps because they 'get it'.  The gamblers are sitting there refreshing bitcoincharts.com all day waiting nervously to see if/when 'everyone else' will start selling.  I know which side I'm on.  Bitcoin is a much, much bigger deal than I think a lot of the college kids, newcomers & gamblers on this forum realize.  I'm what you would call one of the 'early adopters' and most people would gasp if they knew how much coin I had.  I spent most of it already and even though I'd be rich if I would've kept it, I don't mind.  It's about the dream, it's not about getting rich in federal reserve notes.

I disagree, I think people that are truly acting in the spirit of bitcoin will not horde but instead try to offer goods and services within the BTC community and use bitcoins to purchase goods and services from others.  If people do not spend or work for bitcoins how does the economy grow? Think about that person that spent 10,0000 bitcoins for a pizza. If he had been thinking about his long term value perhaps we would not be where we are today because that seemed like a milestone.

I plan on doing a fourth of July (US  independence) bitcoin giveaway on Facebook . Stating that they are worth X (some number higher than today) would surely raise curiosity for people I know that have never heard of it.

Any progress on this? Seems to be one of the most important outstanding issues.
I am waiting for permission from my employer before I proceed. Nearly have it, but bureaucracy bureaucracy.
you need your employer to work on a private project? wtf?

I think she works for Google, and is planning on working on this project during her 20% time.
Correct. I actually was planning to do it outside work originally, but if Google is trying to get copyright on it anyways, I may as well use 20% time rather than my non-work time Smiley

253  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: [MINER] Phoenix - New efficient, fast, modular miner **BFI_INT support!** on: June 06, 2011, 03:36:37 AM
I have been using Phoenix solo for a few days now with a decent hasrate. I finaly got 1 accepted and I thought that would mean that I finaly solved a block. However nothing ever showed up in the bitcoin client and there is still zero in the rejected.

Is there some other possibility I am missing?

The Bitcoin client doesn't show generated blocks at all until after 2 confirmations. I don't know why this is. You've probably already seen it appear by now.
Thanks for the suggestion but it is definitely not this.  I was hoping it was some kind of configuration I was missing but now it seems like I somehow had a block that got lost in the works with no information on what happened. If it were stale or invalid fine but it is just a mystery.. very discouraging for my first solo attempt.

Might have been an invalid block, then. (Which, now that I think of it, is probably why Bitcoin doesn't display these until 2 confirmations.)

If you're doing any serious solo mining, you should consider setting up a private pool.

Thanks much, I can live with that explanation. I am not doing any serious solo mining I just want to get a few blocks or even one while it is still possible and thought I would devote like a month to it but it has me concerned that it may not be working correctly and I possibly could be wasting a few weeks.

There seems to be a memory leak somewhere (maybe not technically a 'memory leak' since you are using Python but), phoenix uses several hundred megabytes of ram after several days of running.  My guess is a failure to prune some sort of list of completed shares / console output / something.  I would simply quit and restart, but I've run into the previously mentioned bug where my normally stable system would completely freeze upon exiting phoenix.  This one I can't seem to reliably reproduce, it happens sometimes upon exiting but most of the time it's fine.

I have had that lockup issue for a long time and I think I just found a way arround it. I am guessing your using Ati11.4/.5? If so try 11.3. Have two machines that were having this issue with 11.4 and it has cleared up with 11.3. That bug is realy bad on a non dedicated miner..(other stuff has gotten corrupt for me because of lockups from loosing the app close russian rullett)

This is a non reference card (they make reference and non-reference)
I'm getting 273Mh/s on stock speeds on guiminer.  When I tried to ramp it up it crashed, with higher OC's crashing sooner.

seems like I might as well have saved $40 and gone with a 5830.

does anyone have any advice?

what sort of boost have people seen from down clocking memory?
should I try bumping up voltage from stock 1.09 to see if that makes OC stable?

What's the talk about the ATI stream SDK?  Do I just go to the ATI download site and install it for a boost?

I got 4 of these a few weeks back I do 880/350 mem and get about 350mh with pheonix+phat miner. One of the cards is a little bitch and I had to set it at 850/350 to stabilize it. Other than that they have been working fine other than my friends diamond 5850 did 410Mh without any effort.
