I think I'm in favor of hard-forking the network to make Darksend transactions completely free. So there will be no fees to track at all. Instead of the miners, they could pay either the masternode network (the one you connected to even), the development fund, foundation fund, etc. These payments would be passed to the masternode and could be cashed later to avoid timing analysis. Another upside to this is it's impossible to do in Bitcoin and the fees could be MUCH lower than 0.0125. Thoughts?

I'm not blaming Darkcoin. I'm saying if you're anything of a decent human being you don't think a site selling Class A drugs to anyone and everyone is "good news". And certainly not good news because the value of your fucking cryptocurrency increases.
What's so hard to understand about that?
My 2 cents: 1) Much like the silkroad has taken all the drug related violence out of the business by giving users the possibility to buy drugs online, (without the dangerous hassle of going to some psychotic guy waiting at a dark streetcorner in some fucked up neighborhood) darkcoin can build on that success and help create the next step in this necessary process of truly helping drug addicts. The possibility of ordering drugs online is a very positive thing, because it reduces violence, and creates more safety and reliability. (You think some street dealer cares about his reputation? He'll try to abuse whoever is forced to deal with him) I am 100% sure that many drugdealers HATE it that you can now buy drugs online anonymously from some remote part of the country. Drug producers on the other hand welcome darkcoin, but not the dealers themselves. I therefor imagine a world were this middleman called dealer disappears completely.Isn't that just another middleman that abused his position for so many years and whose time to disappear has now come? I have known some dealers in my life and they were all sociopathic pieces of shit. It delights me to imagine a future where those assholes don't exist anymore. Instead we now have a decentralized system that brings together drug producers and drug users. Isn't that brilliant? Isn't that what this is all about? Enabling a free market while reducing violence? So watch out when you read headlines like "Darkcoin used by drugdealers". Because that's exactly what is NOT happening anymore. Drug prohibition is an inhuman thing anyway, and it fills me with joy that the mess created by stupid government laws is slowly being offset by decentralized technology. 2) If your money of choice can't be used to buy drugs or pay for sex etc... what good is it anyway? And how exactly would such things be prevented? By having government approve every transaction first? Money doesn't stink, and when it comes to price discovery all "sinful" (lol) morality goes out the window. I for one welcome any "illegal" activities that use darkcoin and hope that in the near future some large porn producers start accepting darkcoin, it's the next logical step. Disclaimer: I condemn any form of violence. So when I say "illegal" activities I include all the things that government arbitrarily declares illegal. (how can it be illegal when those things don't represent a violent crime that creates a victim.) Also, by eliminating the dealer you probably avoid many new addicts. Most people need some convincing to get into drugs. If there is no dealer to do that, some people will never start. You still have friends to teach/convince you, but dealers are more than just people that sell a product. Today the Washington Post posted in favour of online drug markets... really didn't expect them to be taking that position! I don't know man, I can't shake the feeling we missed a Golden Opportunity today to stay one step ahead... Yes indeed. What worries me is that when XC, CLOAK, VERI and all that stuff came along, Evan didn't bat an eyelid. Yet when SDC appears he suddenly wants to "merge" with them ? Why would he even suggest just a drastic move only in this particular case ? He must think they're onto something. If ever there was an invitation to hedge your DRK investment you can't really beat an endorsement from its own developer. I've already acted accordingly. Don't over read The reason for this movement was not fear. The reason was a saturated market with hundreds of altcoins with developers not working together. I really believe that in the near future we won't have so many coins. Most will just vanish, but this was an attempt to try a different path. Something not tried before that could benefit everyone. As for why SDC, obviously Evan thought part of the team was talented. The community seemed strong, with some values aligned with ours. Also, their size seemed right. |

The sdc devs didn't want to do it. They want to go their own way - fair enough. The darkcoin community was against issuing a superblock to increase the supply and payoff the sdc marketcap. Very very opposed. And I believe rightfully. If we continue this momentum for a while your friend will prob join us of his own accord Yeah I just read their statement... Fair enough, minting more DRK would have essentially been a crowd funding exercise and we would need close to universal agreement for that... It looks like it was something like that, but I believe that part of the SDC team may not have been completely aware of everything. I just got multiple masternodes to form consensus, lock inputs, literally took 2 seconds to lock the transaction in place... then I tried to spend the same inputs for a higher fee. Works!

As the core idea of the merger was to acquire more developers. Let's start drumming up ideas how we can onboard new talent to the darkcoin team. There needs to be some sort of incentive or clever marketing to weed out some of the good devs
I'll happily donate half my MN earnings to a developer fund if devs are needed, and I think they are. As long as it goes to professional devs hired/contracted who have real names and real experience, not some faceless cryptognat clown. You are not alone there, but it is not a big field of donators. The foundation will be trying that, but competent developers are expensive, that's why we were exploring different ideas. |

It's a shame the ShadowCash merger came out, but I'm going to go ahead and call it off completely. If we got approval from the ShadowCash team, the plan was to bring this to the community. I was never intending to act unilaterally to merge the two coins. However, it appears that a majority of the community is against this idea, so we'll find other ways to acquire talent. Thanks for your input everyone.
Good call. There is no reason why you won't be able to find devs. The fact that this was leaked before you could even negotiate it says a lot anyway. I'm glad it's off. The reason is the lack of incentive. We don't have the funds yet to pay for developers, so we can't expect them to work for free. It is more profitable for them to just create a coin and be there from the beginning. If it goes well the reward will be much bigger for them. We'll be opening the foundation for memberships and donations in a few days. If people are generous we can solve many things, but the donation model brings the free rider problem, so we'll see Anyway, all ideas on how to recruit developers are welcomed! |

Please, let's be respectful with each other. We all love our coins. Our devs have been talking and they all recognize the value of the other coin. This is no bailing out. There is no way to know what would happen in the future, both for ShadowCash or for Darkcoin. The market is difficult and that is why we think this makes sense. We both have nice features planned, but the market doesn't always recognizes them because success needs more than features.
Thank you, and don't get me wrong I respect that Duffield and Dark see the value in SDC and are approaching with this offer. As an investor I just personally am iffy on whether the deal is beneficial to SDC or not, but I'm not on the SDC team so all I can do is watch. Either way this brings alot of new eyeballs to SDC. I know, we all look for our interests. As we should! It is true that we are "older" than SDC and you are still hopping for your big jump in price. But we are also hopping for another one thanks to instant transactions or the increase in adoption. Truth is, we (you, I, the crypto community in general) are all a bunch of optimists. We always expect a better future, so there will never be a good time to do it. If it is gonna happen we all will need to accept a correction in our short term expectations to be able to tackle a bigger future. |

Evan, I had no idea you were considering "printing" more Darkcoins to bail out ShadowCash. There should be a better solution. This will create a bad precedent and what will stop you not 'print' more money in the future? Ok, I get it, we need new dev team but we don't have to bail out a failing coin. Let's think about an alternative plan.
No offense but this is not a "bail out" to SDC, otherwise there are plenty of Anoncoins that Dark could buy out for no good reason. What this is is a last minute attempt to gain control of Shadowcoin's main selling point, ZK Snarks which offers true trustless, zero knowledge anonymity. It's not about HTML wallets or fancy GUI graphics, those can be bought rather easily. I admit as an SDC investor it would be nice to have the Dark name recognition behind the coin but I also don't like the idea of my chunk of investment in SDC being worth 31x less. Valuating SDC's proportion based on market cap is folly because when ZK is released it is going to set the crypto world on fire and put SDC at the very least on equal footing with Dark market-cap wise. Here is a simple answer: I never heard about ShadowCoin before. a) If your ShadowCoin is really great and has value then why are you agreeing to destroying it? Just continue to work on it. b) If it is doomed to fail then why would it be saved at the expense of Darkcoin investors? Please, let's be respectful with each other. We all love our coins. So if I'm understanding this correctly, Darkcoin would mint $434,231 (current ShadowCash marketcap) worth of new Darkcoins to swap existing SDC for DRK? Also thinking out loud, I would not set a specific date - do a weighted average over a period, as shadow could be pumped to get a hugely disproportionate amount of DRK..
There is already a proposal with values to avoid that, it doesn't matter what happens with the price now. |
