New Motion up on Loomio

There's a motion up on Loomio on weather or not to allocate funds to angel investments. Text of motion below:

Quote
We may put $5k into bitcoin venture capitalist Brock Pierce bitcoin investment fund - http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-investor-syndicate-angellist-top-10/
We’d be helping the bitcoin eco-system grow and profiting off that growth too.

Please be sure to vote and please comment.

Quite a divergence away from mining? Any further info on the reasoning behind this?
242  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: February 24, 2014, 09:41:23 PM
I apologize for a stupid question, but are there other places where I can buy stocks of ASICMINER than Havelock Investments? And if not, do I get dividends to my personal BTC address or do I get them to my Havelock Investments account?

1) just on Havelock or direct shares contacting shareholders. Basically on forums in the auction threads or contacting them personally
2) on your Havelock account, but you can withdraw to your personal offline wallet at any time at no cost

you could also try https://796.com/  HK website, they sell the AM100 equivalent, although I only use that site for it's RedStarMining (RSM) listing. They have been very reliable so far, depends who you think is more likely to interfere hongkong regulators of the US ones. DYOR  Lips sealed

I don't have any skin in the game, but waiting until half of the units have arrived seems fair.  Undecided

The Gox remark was only meant as lighthearted conversation starter, but I see you guys are ontop of the situation as usual.  Cool

Implement your personal security as we tell you to, or we'll lock you out of all your accounts and hold all your money hostage

You guys have just sunk to new lows. How about implementing some of the security measures that have been suggested in this thread, rather than force redundant security on those of us that do not need it or wish to use it?
250  Economy / Securities / Re: Starting a new FPGA mining farm/contract! Cognitive Resurrected on[Havelock] on: February 20, 2014, 04:59:52 PM
The following things are still of critical importance IMO:
1. Ensure that the new address where all COG funds are stored will be verifiable and contains *all* the expected "reinvestment" funds (so it should have 50% of all divs since the time of the last CT order, right?)
2. Ensure that all of our hardware is using a visible pool like eligius, against the same address, and has backup pools should eligius go down, for best uptime
3. Ensure that the pools we use, along with their deposit address, are all documented ON THE WEBSITE (for BTC and scrypt miners) (we can't be digging through this entire thread to get critical info like our current hashrate, payout address, etc)

Once all of these are done, the "present" is taken care of, and there can be no question about stolen funds moving forward, the only questions are about the past.  To clear those up, we'd like to see the following:

1. The long-promised financial report.  How much did our CT order cost exactly?  What money came in/out last year?
2. What payout address was in use during the infamous "missing div" period?  Was the discrepancy due to your error, the pool's error, bad luck, or something else?  Any answer is better than no answer.

Finally, after that in priority, it'd be nice to have a discussion about next steps.
1. Tell us more about this PR person
2. What does our reinvestment fund look like?  Are we still in talks with CT?  Will we be placing another order soon?  How are the scrypt machines doing, is their return making that look like a better plan than more ASIC based hardware? (imma guess "probably not", but worth considering)

Welcome aboard Samuel.

As you can see tensions are high here and you will have your work cut out for you if you are to assuage the heat currently on cognitive.

The PR job will be a tough one. However the solution is clear and relatively simple. The beauty of Bitcoin is it is possible to prove everything on the blockchain, so the answer to all your problems is this: 'FULL FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY FOR ALL ACTIONS PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE' if you can find a way to do this in a clear open manner the majority of your problems will be over, and shareholders on your side. When confidence returns the shareprice will rise.

Good luck and all the best.  May you, in the process of achieving the job laid out for you, restore the good name of Samuel. It has been 'a bit' tarnished here in Bitcoinland.

Hopefully with good actions you will become to be known as Samuel 'Blanc'.

Here at Havelock we take security issues very seriously.

We have never had any issues with users that enabled 2FA on their account. We have contacted the person that has made the claim that is account has been compromised and are looking to resolve the matter has soon as possible.

Trying to balance ease of use and security is never easy, especially in the Bitcoin realm. We can always add additional security features but those will always slow down the user experience.

So we turn to you, our valued customers, what features would like us to add to our platform?

1. Confirmation email before any action is taken; some but not all actions.

2. Pending withdrawal of your Bitcoins; time lock?

3. Lock account by IP address?

We always value your opinions and we strive to serve the Bitcoin community to the best of our ability.

Also we can assure everyone that it was not an "inside rogue employee"

Thank you,

This is the Asciminer thread so we should probably move this discussion over to havelock exchange, although if you remember Havelock suggestions have been made in the past, had these been implemented this sort of thing could not so easily happen
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=135035.msg3661143#msg3661143

withdrawals should be locked to a specific BTC address and multisig should be signed for share transfer. This would at least stop funds leaving the accounts. YOU WERE WARNED.

Copied here as it's the relevant thread. These issues were pointed out in NOVEMBER.

On a side note, If I were in Havelocks position now I would be experimenting on ways to migrate their centralised exchange model to a decentralised open transactions model. Its is only a matter of time before your business model is made redundant, why not be the first company to make the switch?

254  Other / Meta / Re: Questions to theymos about the $350,000 forum software project on: February 09, 2014, 11:14:18 PM
An Idea ... not sure if its a good one but an idea nevertheless.

perhaps any spare money leftover should be donated to a charity. EFF ? used as bounties for software development the community see as appropriate, or maybe all forum users that registered before a certain date could be given free lifetime membership to the bitcoin foundation as way of thanks for the contribution to the forum over the years.

just a suggestion  Undecided

That still do not achieve the cause. The implied agreement was a better forum, which not just include a new software, but improvement of the forum internal organization as well. That will not happen if the unspent funds are donated to a third party.

Yeah I get that, my point was for the leftover funds, obviously new forum comes first, but we could get a gold plated, diamond encrusted, teleport enabled, super forum for $350 000. It would be crazy to spend that much. There is clearly going to be funds over and above requirement.

So many demanding people here. Real world businesses take time, please allow a little breathing space before letting accusations fly.  Angry

Assuming the 28.75 th/s comes online relatively soon, how about compensating this position using the dividends of the 1,023 unclaimed shares? All dividends paid out from these unclaimed shares can also be debited to an accounts payable ledger so we can keep track of what is owed in the event that the shares are claimed and back dividends need to be paid.

Seriously you need to stop with this, those shares are not yours, they are not for 're-appropriation'. If they remain unclaimed perhaps dividends should be kept on hold, but they very fact they are unclaimed doesn't give you, or anyone else the right to steal them.

ps you might not have realised this, but becasue they remain unclaimed, it has effectively already reduced the overall share total, and hence increased the price of shares on the market.
