241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoinfoundation.org - Is it worth joining? on: January 22, 2013, 01:12:44 AM
I think it's a good idea in theory: BitCoin could use some people to help promote it better. But I'm not a member, so I don't know how well it works out in practice.

243  Other / Meta / Re: New subforums for alternative clients on: January 21, 2013, 10:40:11 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=136978.0

There seems to be consensus that this is a good idea.
I think so.  It would certainly make it easier to watch topics of interest related to alternative clients.  There does not appear to be  a consensus on when an alternative client deserves its own child forum, but that can probably be worked out incrementally.

I could see MultiBit and Electrum deserving their own at least, since they seem to be the biggest alternative clients. Making subforums for them (with the official topics stickied in there) would help speed up the tech support process too, IMO.

Sale successful! Buyer sent the code first and it worked without a problem. Thanks!
246  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum: the blockchain is the cloud on: January 21, 2013, 10:34:22 PM
How long can it take for a transaction to show up in an Electrum wallet? I purchased a gift card from kevwang95 for BTC1.5 to this payment address: http://blockchain.info/address/1LHmGT39uLJYSfeKVbgUP5vAgrhf1GaqMK

I sent the payment at 9:09PM EST, and the blockchain shows two confirmations. kevwang95 says that he doesn't see the transaction in his history tab in Electrum, and the balance is 0.

I don't have much experience with Electrum, so I just want to make sure he gets the payment for the sale. Does it take a while for it to show up in Electrum?

EDIT: kevwang95 sent me this screenshot of Electrum showing that the payment still hasn't shown up after 2 1/2 hours. It looks to me like he copied the correct address, which is the one I sent the payment to. Blockchain currently shows 13 confirmations, and my wallet has full confirmation of the payment being sent. I'm thinking there's some sort of glitch or technical issue with his client, but I don't have any experience in using it. If anyone can reply with some help to give him, or if they can PM him directly, I'd greatly appreciate it.

there was a server-side problem. I restarted my server, and the transactioni should show up now.

He messaged me this morning saying the transaction went through. Thanks!
247  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet showing 0 balance on: January 21, 2013, 10:33:32 PM
Not a scam!

Bolded that so people won't have negative thoughts about the seller. He messaged me this morning and said the funds were received. I didn't think he was a scammer since he sent me the gift card I was purchasing before I sent the payment. I felt bad since I wanted his first transaction to go well.

Anyways, the problem has been solved. Thanks to everyone who helped us out! Smiley

In exchange for cash. It's collateral. You need to finish reading the whole sentence before you post a reply Tongue

you tried to connect to another server?

He said he just switched from SSL to HTTP and hasn't seen a change yet.
251  Bitcoin / Electrum / [solved] Electrum wallet showing 0 balance on: January 21, 2013, 05:16:12 AM
I've posted this in the official Electrum thread, but I haven't gotten a response there. I'm posting it here in hopes that I can help the guy I did this sale with.

I purchased a gift card from kevwang95 for BTC1.5 to this payment address: http://blockchain.info/address/1LHmGT39uLJYSfeKVbgUP5vAgrhf1GaqMK

I sent the payment at 9:09PM EST. My wallet shows the transaction as completely confirmed. The blockchain currently has 15 confirmations for the payment. However, kevwang95 says that Electrum is not showing that the transaction has been received: his history has no transactions and his wallet balance is 0.

He sent me this screenshot of Electrum at about 11:30PM showing that the payment still hadn't shown up after nearly 2 1/2 hours. It looks to me like he sent me the right address, and it's the same address I linked above and sent payment to.

I'm thinking there is some sort of glitch in Electrum that's not showing his correct balance, but I don't have much experience with Electrum. He's new to BitCoin and I want to make sure he gets the payment for the sale. I would really appreciate it if someone could give him a hand in solving the issue by either posting here or PMing him directly. The payment is there in the address; he just can't access it.

Thanks to any help we can get with this!

EDIT: The issue has been solved. Thanks for the help!
252  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1 hour delay in the blockchain - is this unusual? on: January 21, 2013, 02:43:55 AM
Yeah, I'm not sure why it's not updating. My wallet still says not seen in chain (I'm using MultiBit). The seller is using Electrum, and he says the payment hasn't showed up at all in his history. Blockchain has four confirmations now, so I don't get why it's not showing up in either of our clients. I could see MultiBit taking a bit, since it loads a part of the blockchain, but my understanding is that Electrum doesn't load the chain at all. Am I right in thinking that?

EDIT: Here's the Blockexplorer link, if it helps: http://blockexplorer.com/tx/470593e7e59dbf4d3efe900e590fdef6f907c735702e34b2bc2a10fbe123388a
EDIT 2: My wallet is now showing full confirmations, so I messaged the seller to see if it's shown up in his now.
253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 1 hour delay in the blockchain - is this unusual? on: January 21, 2013, 02:38:08 AM
I sent a payment for a sale to a user here on the forum and it's taking quite a while to show up in his Electrum wallet. Are there more delays going on right now or something?

There is no such thing as "more delays going on right now".  The time between blocks is random.  The time between any two blocks is random.  The time until the next block is random.  The only thing which is certain is that in the long run on average the block interval will be ~10 minutes.  BTW the last block was found ~1 minute ago however it may not contain your transaction.

I gotcha. I've been checking the transaction on the blockchain, which has four confirmations: http://blockchain.info/address/1LHmGT39uLJYSfeKVbgUP5vAgrhf1GaqMK

Blockexplorer shows not redeemed, however. My own wallet simply says seen by one peer, but not in the chain. I don't have a lot of technical knowledge on the subject, so I'm trying to confirm that the seller gets the money I sent him.

Someone can contact you through this post if they're interested. Once you have five posts and four hours logged into the site you can make a listing in the Goods forum under Marketplace. Good luck!

No problemo. Welcome to the forum!
258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How long to receive free Bitcoins? on: January 21, 2013, 01:20:24 AM
Depends on the service. I've found CoinTube, EarnFreeBitCoins, and BitVisitor to be very quick (usually within ten minutes of viewing the pages or videos). Other sites lump payments together to avoid transaction fees, so they can take a while longer.
259  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I trade an Amazon GC for Bitcoins on: January 21, 2013, 01:12:45 AM
I'm willing to email or pm the code to you.

I'll buy the GC if you're willing to use a third party escrow in the transaction or send the code to me so I can verify it before I send you the payment. If you're okay with one of those, send me a PM.

Are you willing to use an escrow or send first?
