2401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: February 26, 2016, 09:31:18 PM
I'd never buy ASICs because they end up being once expensive doorstops and I don't like the lack of transparency surrounding the release of them. GPUs on the other hand are transparent distribution-wise, flexible and much, much more people own GPUs which on its own is better for decentralization.

GPU miners at least can adapt, as in they can mine something else or use the cards for things other than mining or just resell them. ASICs on the other hand are in a much faster race to the bottom. ASIC owners are much more incentivized to cash out as much as they can before their hardware inevitably becomes useless before the next generation of ASICs. And of course much less people invest in them which causes centralization and worse distribution which should be avoided for all coins.

It also doesn't make much sense for ASIC companies to sell ASICs that are so profitable, unless they already used them for who knows how long and realized that now it's much more profitable to dump them.
2402  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will my altcoins increase in $ If Bitcoin Goes up on: February 26, 2016, 05:49:07 PM
I could be wrong but I think small upside fluctuations in BTC price are usually cause altcoin prices to decrease probably because people are dumping their alts to cash out more in FIAT.

Conversely, bitcoin price drops usually cause people to invest into alts.

But I think a massive price increase in BTC would also cause the alts to go way up because a massive price increase in BTC means increased value of the blockchain technology so BTC would bring all the alts up.
2403  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pool mining sites Get your act together on: February 26, 2016, 04:03:10 PM
Pool mining all your sites are way to complicated.
Spent the last three hours trying to work out going through numerous sites and pools
all of them poorly laid out, badly explained etc. How the hell do you expect people to get
in to this stuff
Is it any wonder so many of us don't mine coins.  Shocked
That's why ICO are so popular - few of us have the time to spend delving in to this stuff.
All the sites expect some kind of professional knowledge Make it easy FFS!
Think real world software designed for the masses.
Many of us have day jobs and lives.

90% of pools are professional you're just being laughably impatient. Knowing nothing and calling out all pools instead of googling the info or watching a short guide isn't making you look good.

That's why ICO are so popular
The reason ICOs are popular because people are dumb and impatient and just want quick cash.
2404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Ultracoin] [Est. Feb 2014] ~ ASIC Resistant & Ultrafast 6 Second Transactions! on: February 26, 2016, 03:24:44 AM
Nice activity!

I see we have:
  • bret
    bathrobehero
    whortonda
    thispanda

discussing things - can we make a dev group up from you guys?

I'm not a dev, just a miner so I'd rather not join the dev team as I would have very little use at most.
But I don't mind helping from the outside if I can.

For people who want to sync from nothing I'd suggest downloading the blockchain from http://cryptochainer.com/dir/ and sync from that which should be fast.

Just a small thing but if you replace the wallet links with url tags the wallet links will be clickable so people won't get confused:

Code:

And Nicehash is paying 60% of what you can make mining Ethereum directly.

Miners that don't actually look at profits... seriously. -_-

That figure (60%) is almost always right for any algo. Side effects of being a lazy, plug and play miner. Grin

This coins has got more attention than it would deserve. Look at the fucking premine amount ppl!
2411  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Whose got the best designed desktop wallet? on: February 23, 2016, 11:19:44 PM
@john-connor

Out of 213 wallets that I have dealth with over the years Vanilla's wallet is my least favourite by a huge margin (excluding broken, super-unstable wallets).
As much I appreciate minimalistic, barebone wallets VNL is just terrible.

I mean it's needlessly small/concise, the windows cannot be resized and it doesn't even support RPC (GPU solomining).
I mean what the fuck is this:

To me at least it's an utterly horrendous experience to use it and I avoid using it as much as I can. But since I can't even solomine to it, I don't have to ever use it (even though I'd want to solomine).

Interesting. What was the original price of the ICO?
2413  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] • CYGNUS • [CYG] • X11 POW/POS • Consensus Polls • Dynamic Development on: February 23, 2016, 10:00:53 PM
1.187.400 CYG will be distributed free between bitcointalk.org users. This fund will be held in an Airdrop wallet and equally distributed between the users who submitted a valid request, and was accepted after verification. A total of 1000 users will be accepted for the airdrop, which means that, every accepted user will get 1187.4 CYG.

Everything looks nice expect for the quoted part. There are a shitton of active sockpuppet accounts on this forum and you intend to reward them and reinforce the behavior of having multiple accounts. I disagree with that even if you intend to do an activity check. Plenty of suckpuppet accounts are active because of other promotions like signiature campaigns.

Other than that it really does look nice because the premine is accounted for. In a perfect world I'd like the PoW algorithm to be a more creative, non-Asic one but that might just be me.

Either way, I'm mining this and good luck.

Please check the disclaimer on the top. I am not the developer of this coin. I applied for a bounty posting this OP. Checked the wallet for viruses before doing that so from that side it is safe other than that looking good let's see what brings the future

Yes, I ninja edited my posts. The dev does indeed has a newbie account.

Make sure you scan this with VirusTotal. It has picked up a hacktool in the wallet. Use at your own risk

Virustotal is never, ever 100% reliable. Hacking tools can be hidden so it's strongly advised to run all your wallets either in a Virtual Machine, or in a restricted Sandbox or on a machine with a throwaway OS where viruses can't cause you any trouble.

I have the wallet running in a Sandbox where it only has read access to 2 folders, read access to the windows folder and some other folders and everything else is restricted (can't even read it). This way malicious wallets trying to grab wallet.dat files or browser cookies won't or anything like that are not able to do so and they usually just end up crashing.

Is there a block explorer with API support (balance of address, network information, etc)?
2417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Whose got the best designed desktop wallet? on: February 23, 2016, 07:23:13 PM
I like Spreadcoin's wallet (pic). It has a built in vanity gen an graphs for net hashrate/difficulty.
I wish it could be shrunk to a smaller size and offered other color themes though.
2418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] DARKNET [DNET] QRK ALGO - PoW/PoS on: February 23, 2016, 06:57:14 PM
Net Hashrate: 8,983.92 MH/s

zpool added it so the hashrate from now on will sharply follow the price. Couple of days ago the hashrate was as low as 1.5 Ghs if I recall correctly.
2419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernels. on: February 23, 2016, 03:20:04 AM
Yes, but you can't buy hashpower, nor you can sell or buy decred 'cause of the stratum incompatibility :-/
I wonder if the coin developers do that on purpose.

Ofcourse they do. I wonder if the etherum network is ready for 800GHASH autoexchanging multipool with 0.3BTC/GHASH payouts..
240BTC generated for the miners every day. Nicehash has just added it. Time to harvest some BTC's.

I don't think it's going to matter this time. Eth's price climb and more importantly its volume can soak up 240 BTC everyday without affecting the price too much.

Oh boy. It will probably crash back down but in a few weeks/months I'm sure this will go much, much higher.
