1461  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Now that Monero's GUI is out, what will people complain about next? on: December 25, 2016, 03:32:27 AM
How much of a blind fanboy or obvious shill do you have to be to try to justify why the GUI wallet is 32 months late? It's as if you don't want people to use your crypto...
Decent distribution is basically arguable at best.

And yes, I can't stop beating the dead horse of it being botnet-friendly, but it's hard not to.
I know botnets have an arguably positive effect on the security of the network and that there's very little to non morale in crypto but I still find it hard to justify turning a blind eye to botnets.
And yes, devs could stop it by using a more GPU-friendly algo, there are literally dozens of them exist with optimized miners.

And yes, trade volume has shifted a lot, from 96% being polo to 74% but it's still a long way from being healthy.

1463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ideas for selling a PC loaded with Top Altcoin Wallets on: December 23, 2016, 11:41:39 AM
It's a good way of getting accused of being a scammer because the people who would buy such a PC are definitely not savvy enough not to download all the viruses and get their coins stolen.
1464  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why now many emerging new coin? on: December 21, 2016, 03:29:07 PM

in one month can almost simultaneously launching two coin, what do you think with these symptoms?

Where were you a year or two ago?

Back then at least one coin launched every day and there were times when like 5+ different coins were launched in a single day.

Yikes ?!

Whats that ??

https://github.com/SnapCoin/SnapCoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L1454-L1461

2000000000 Coin premine with a reward of 5 coins per block Huh!

EDIT:

Yup:

    "moneysupply" : 2000000370.00000000,

Thats part of our concept. We will use those coins for picture contests, to pay developers, give aways and bounties. They will not be dumped.

The picture contest will allow users to win (large) amounts of SnapCoin for taking the best pictures. There will be a (blockchain based) online picture portal that enables people to vote on pictures and earn SnapCoin. More information will follow.

Besides the retardedly high amount, that doesn't matter. Even if the pope or Obama had the coins it would still introduce the element of having to trust someone.

1466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Can we really trust CryptoNote code? on: December 20, 2016, 07:49:24 AM
Kind of bumping this as I'm interested in more discussion.
1467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Just built new rig, need a little advice please on: December 20, 2016, 04:59:30 AM
Hi there, if this isn't in the correct section, I apologize I can delete/post again elsewhere if needed.

I just built a new 6 GPU rig.  I have successfully built two others.  After all connections completed, I plug in PSU and turn it on.  Immediately I hear a clicking sound (like a turn signal on a vehicle) and my GPUs are flashing on/off as is my mouse.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this would happen before I even have fired her up?  This PSU was just working well a few hours earlier powering an Antminer R4, so I know it should be okay.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

-Reelen

That could be caused by a lot of things.

Badly seated GPU/riser or memory, faulty hardware, short, bad PSU, etc.

Try double checking everything and then removing all GPUs and trying to turn it on and if that works, try putting back everything one by one.
1468  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How long have your rigs run without resetting? on: December 19, 2016, 01:17:59 AM
Probably around 2, maybe 3 months for most rigs with Win7 with a few tweaks and most scheduled tasks disabled so there's nothing going on in the background that could degrade it over time.

But then again 2-3 months without a short power outage is super rare. And some rigs are less stable whatever I do and only usually go for a couple of weeks tops.

For most rigs that won't go long it's almost always caused by poor USB powered risers. 3 parts per risers, it's a pain in the ass trying to find out which part (out of 18 for a 6 card rig) is at fault.
1469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fastest altcoin? on: December 17, 2016, 04:27:47 PM
Where are now 100 Vanilla Coin shills?  They all left with that developer?  lol

Usually when someone asked about fastest alcoins you got 10 people suggesting vanilla coin.

Was about to say the same. Weird that not every second comment is about vanilla.
1470  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: December 17, 2016, 04:30:30 AM
A slow start is absolutely needed to prevent instamining.

Yes it's a stupid idea to invest from the beginning during slowstart, why do you need to invest immediately? That's not a problem.

SP says a lot of things, I'll believe these things when I see it. It's just as easy to say I'm going to be making a coin and it'll be released in the next decade, fair for everyone, amazing technological innovations, and large whale investor support! It's like the tagline for every trash coin released in the last three years.

Some people has to invest otherwise barely anyone would mine it. But I see what you mean. Unfortunately ZEC was way overhyped and likely heavily manipulated as well.

And the slowstart was so slow that ZEC was essentially instamined in a sense. Not amount wise, of course, that amount is nothing now but the first couple of people made a lot of money even with a fraction of a coin. Miners were virtually ripping pool owners' throats for payment delays. And then there's early private miners which also hurt distribution.

Anyway, my point is that you don't need ~34 days of climbing to avoid instamining, that's ridiculous. Even if there's a new algo waiting with no public miners.

But this day and age newly a released big coin without a windows wallet and some basic GPU miners for both teams is kind of laughable imo and makes it hard to take it seriously. Even Eth got a lot of flack for it and rightfully so.

A coin with linux/mac/windows wallets and basic GPU (not just CPU) miners at launch and some proper marketing way beforehand shouldn't need more than a few days of slow start.

And if you don't have all that, what's even the point of releasing a half-cooked coin - even if it has a killer feature (other than the obvious answer of making money)? It's not like you want as many people as possible to use it... oh wait.
1471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: December 17, 2016, 01:20:32 AM
Any name for the coin?  Smiley
And how about  difficulty goes up 10% per so many blocks high hash but  goes down 50% per same amount of blocks when low hash.
As the coin dies if it does it gives the little guys something to mine.

How about

Reverse payout scheme. Difficulty up ----> more coins for the miners. Smiley
So you get the same amount of coins always.  Grin

100MHASH = 1 coin per day.

If the networkhash is 1GHASH, 10 000 coins are given to the miners every day.
If the networkhash is 100GHASH, 1 000 000 coins are given to the miners every day.
....

Expensive, but secure

Good for the miners, and not so good for the investors.

Good idea but it means emission is unpredictable which means less speculative investors will bother.

It would need some real world use or some incentive for people to hold it.

But if the emisssion have a roof value and the graph is not linear, could be bether than the slow start of zcash.

True. But anything's better than Zcash's slow start imo.

~34 days from 0 to 12.5 means exactly what we experienced; crazy high initial price followed by a continous slow dump because the slow start is basically nothing but a super high inflation period which makes it a stupid idea to invest into it during that time.

But by the time the slowstart ends, the price is already low.

And then the blockreward staying the same for 4 years is another stupid idea because it's just another super high inflation period.

It made sense for bitcoin because barely any people mined it back then and now that it's established it doesn't matter. I might end up working for ZEC in 4-8 years but by that time it would also very well end up being ancient tech.

I think Zcash should have started with something like 6 ZEC per block and after the slow start the blockreward should have gradually decreased over time. There's no reason not to do a gradual decrease instead of the old school sudden halvings every 4 years.

trex wallet on maintenance, thanks

is it to update the wallet or are they even going to agree to keep it listed with the changes?

I think they'll update it, but till they do we can't be sure.

There's no reason for them to remove it so I guess it will just take a while.

Doesn't really matter that much as they disabled it just before we sailed smoothly beyond the fork block. So no wrong fork, not lost transactions, etc, we just have to wait a bit longer.
1476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CCminer(SP-MOD) Modded NVIDIA Maxwell / Pascal kernels. on: December 15, 2016, 12:41:39 PM
You know it's a shame some of the bigger old coins are unprofitable to mine now. While they have a pretty healthy trade volume, their blockreward reached a point where it's not longer profitable to mine. Feathercoin for instance has healthy trade volume every day, but easily gets saturated by a handful of miners. Cryptonite is also in this boat.

But the rewards should not be too high. Look at LBRY for intance. The coin just crashed..But now the mining reward is decreasing slowly, and the price on the exchange will pickup.

I will launch a big coin soon. Make sure you mine with me in the early days.
Pure POW, No premine, Fair launch, fast optimized opensource GPU miners at start, No bullshit.

New algo? If so, that would be weird as you'd be incentivized to keep a highly optimized miner to yourself and release a much slower one.
1477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would you invest in this ICO? on: December 15, 2016, 04:56:13 AM
Alright guys. I am going to post a PRE-ICO in a few hours. Let me know what you think. This is what we are offering:

[1] Coin developed with 100% new source code
[2] Hoping to raise 20 to 25 BTC to fund development
[3] We will release the client at the same time as the ICO starts (and maybe a web wallet)
[4] We will launch a trading platform before the year ends.

We have more features but I don't want to post more for now.

Let me know what you think and if there is something we can improve.

Personally, I don't invest in any ICO but a hands on with a completely new wallet sounds nice.
1478  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the best ico to invest in this year for profit next year. on: December 14, 2016, 10:34:51 AM
I want to invest a few bitcoins this year in a ico and forget about them till late next year.
What options are open to me?

You're better off putting that money in a slot machine. Most ICOs are scams.

Not really. Most I have read about in the news are not scams except for that dao coin but there are a lot of ico's where people make good money and I want to be one of them for 2017.

I have a few key factors.
-devs need to look serious
-there must be some working tech to try before investing
-escrow of course
-no crazy coin count. Anything over 150M coins and its a no.
-a strong community

where can I find all this in the same coin or cant i

However you want to justify it, you're throwing money at a random anon dude over the internet in exchange for some wild promises and pretty images.

That's the lowest form of gambling there is.

You must only pick losers. Lots of win icos covered in the news everyday. Ico's are the future. Just ask coindesk.

I don't pick ICOs, in fact I have never ever bought into any ICO/IPO scam while I have 273 different wallets on my computer, most of which I mined at some point.

Regardless, your post perfectly reflects your (along with most ICO participants') lack of realization that you're playing a slotmachine where the house has more edge than in any casino - which says a lot.

If you have any logical justification of giving money to a random anon dude over the internet (as a legit investment) in exchange for some magic internet moniez the dev made out of thin air with zero effort and some nice pictures and ambitious promises, I'm all ears.
1479  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Joincoin (J) ToR Anonymous All Algorithm mining! NEW THREAD on: December 14, 2016, 10:06:33 AM
Nice to see that most of my wallet peers are on the new version :-)

For me only about 40% is on 1.3.2 and the rest is on 1.3.0.

You know way more than me so I'll just ask, shouldn't a new version refuse connections to old wallets?
