2401  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to exchange RMB to USD in USA as a Foreigner? on: April 11, 2015, 04:16:51 PM
Not sure what this has to do with any crypto currency... however... head to any airport and they're very likely to have a currency exchange.  No bank account necessary.
2402  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How do I solo mine with an AntMiner? on: April 11, 2015, 04:12:19 PM
Not sure which Ant you've got, but on the S3, edit the file /etc/init.d/cgminer and add this to the PARAMS line (line 70):
Code:
--btc-address YOURADDRESS
and restart the mining process.

Another option is to setup your own pool on a server in your network... you can use ck.'s ckpool if you're on Linux... or you could configure an NOMP/MPOS/CoiniumServ/whatever pool and mine to it just like you would any other.

Or, you could save yourself the hassle and just point your miners to solo.ckpool.org Smiley
2403  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Does it make any sense to cloudmine on: April 10, 2015, 09:02:34 PM
There's never any return if you just purchase coins... you will still have the same number of coins at the end as you did at the beginning.  Sure, the value of those coins in USD, GBP, CNY, etc will change over time, but you're doing nothing with the coins other than sitting and holding.

Justin, the managing partner of MegaMine goes by the name joust here on the forums.  He and I have had some very good discussions in the past.  I know he's got actual hardware backing his operation - lots of KNC.

As for cloud mining itself, well, my feelings on the matter are that you're playing the odds and they're stacked even more against you than if you owned your own gear.  Why?  The service providers are there to make a profit, so they're naturally inclined to charge more for a contract.

My advice would be to evaluate owning your own gear vs having your own gear hosted somewhere vs investing in a cloud mining service.  For example, if your power costs are very high, then hosting and cloud mining are better options for you.
2404  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NastyPoP vs Standard P2Pool on: April 10, 2015, 07:09:19 PM
Thanks nonnakip, that would be a nice visual addition to the graphs to see.  Hopefully you'll be able to get to it Smiley

Made it through another week and here are the numbers:

4/3 - 4/10
NastyPoP - 0.02866930BTC
NastyP2P - 0.03528256BTC
Expected - 0.0318BTC
Luck - 113.4%

2405  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [2100 TH] CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: April 10, 2015, 07:02:07 PM
ive spent $200au on 180GH/s yet people have 180TH/s easy, how?! Where?!
What did you buy?  I spent $20us on an S1 and $50us on a good psu for it, $15us for a heat sink kit and have it comfortably oc'd to 200gh.  Even my S3+ and a psu were less than $200au.  Huh

i got myself a few "new r-box's" one was teh dodge, the other works like a charm (80GH/s on the bad one, 120GH/s on the good one)
i have been looking into getting a few old miners like the S1's just to add more hashing power..
People who have that kind of hashing power are either a) spending a fortune on hardware for their own farm or b) spending a bunch renting the gear from sites like nicehash.com or miningrigrentals.com.
2406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: NiceHash multi-algorithm solo mining pool on: April 10, 2015, 06:40:20 PM
We added two features:

1. If you enter an invalid address you will be rejected (authorization error). So no more "lost lottery tickets" Wink Make sure you use valid/existing address when connecting!

2. You can set preferred mining difficulty. Our system is using vardiff and will automatically adjust optimal difficulty for your miner. Nevertheless you can set custom preferred difficulty by setting diff_xxx in your worker password, example for Bitcoin pool:

Code:
stratum+tcp://stratum.solo.nicehash.com:3334 -u yourAddress.Worker1 -p diff_2048

Very nice!  Would you mind updating the original post to reflect this as well?  It currently states that if you connect with an invalid address and find a block the proceeds will be donated to the pool.

Also, I'd like to give you a +1 for this:
Quote
The main stratum pool code is based on ckpool, therefor 10% of our fee for Bitcoin mining is directly donated to Con Kolivas BTC address 148KkS2vgVi4VzUi4JcKzM2PMaMVPi3nnq as contribution for his work on stratum pool core development.
Con/kano deserve to be compensated for the work they've done and continue to do for the community.  Very nicely done, nicehash!

Straightforward NOMP pool... wish you the best of luck and hope it works out for you!
2408  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: making mining pool problems on: April 10, 2015, 05:48:19 PM
Setting up your own MPOS pool is a relatively non-trivial task.  The instructions on how to do so are very extensive.  Just out of curiosity, why are you trying to setup your own pool?

I really don't understand the point of this script at all.  How difficult is it to click a link and see the stats on the web?  Instead, you're going to install a whole bunch of python libraries and run a command line script.  What's the value add in doing this?
2410  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: pool mining question on: April 09, 2015, 07:56:06 PM
Just wondering why you want to set up a new pool?

maybe because of fee? if his pool can become famous enough, you can earn a lot with fees, i know this is true with altcoin, it should be with bitcoin too

There are some good pools out their already, so in order to take miners away you will have to charge less and/or offer something better. I would think the profit can't be that great at some of the pool fees that are being charged. If you could get big enough it looks like a full time job, then the larger you get the more equipment upgrades you need. Then very few pools seem to stay at the top for long, and now you have all the equipment manufactures doing their own pools. In my opinion home mining may very well be coming to a end or at least not growing like it once was. I am sure there is a lot that I have not even touched on but I just don't seeing it being a great move especially for someone that had to ask about whether  a hosting service will work to host the pool.  Embarrassed

i think it's worth it(if you know what you are doing), just an example

if you can charge a tiny fee like 1% and you are making 100 btc only with your pool, you are already earning 1 btc daily(which is very good already)

bear in mind that you are only running the pool, the miners come from all users around the world

in my example you need a bit less then 10k antminer s5 to generate 100 btc daily, so let's say a range of 1k-5k total users, not so impossible, you need to achieve 1/36 of the entire network, less than 3%(under eligius and ghash.io level)
No, it's not impossible, but it is very unlikely.  As aurel57 points out, there are a ton of factors you must take into account if you decide to operate a pool.  Just throwing out a canned instance of an MPOS or NOMP or whatever doesn't cut it if you're looking to attract miners.  You need to provide something different than the other pools, which means you need to do some coding and testing.  You need dedicated hardware, DDoS protection, etc - which means you're in a datacenter.  No running your pool from home on a Pentium 3 over a crappy DSL connection.  You'll need redundancy and eventually distribution to make your pool more attractive to a global audience.

Oh, and through all of this you've got some pretty stiff competition.  There are already a number of really good pools out there.

OP really doesn't need to be thinking about operating, or making, a pool if the question being asked is whether it can be hosted by a web hosting service and what hosting plan to get.

Congrats.  Now would you be so kind as to address some of the questions raised by Phil, auelf57 and myself?

Sure, we're already working on address validator for all three coins (we have to modify code at a few places) so that invalid addresses will be rejected at authorization. Thanks for the feedback!
That's good news for folks that want to play the lottery... hate to have the winning numbers but lose the ticket Smiley

hahaha... kano's gonna kick us out of here.  While you are all waiting on a very long block, (yes, I knew the answer the whole time cuz I'm smart like that!) remember that you're only at 250% of expected at this point.

Pool Luck* (24H / 3D / 1W / 2W / 1M / 3M / All Time): 62.888% / 76.267% / 88.769% / 90.841% / 95.706% / 91.032% / 96.847%

very lame.. especially with a 2% fee

That luck would be better with a 0% fee?  Bad luck is bad luck regardless of fee's.
you fucks think your so intelligent you're fucking stupid.

Harsh, I think OP was voicing how people wouldn't use that pool seeing a 2% fee.

Hence why I prefer Antpool for my S4's.
OP?  LOL... the original poster started this thread in July of last year and was asking about BTCG luck and if all pools used PPLNS.  Somebody (BCwinning) decided to revive this post from the dead and buried to show that BTCG luck is still bad.

I think I like the way CK has his solo pool set up that if you try and mine with a invalid address your rejected....sure would hate to think someone would find a block only to not get rewarded.
That would be awful...

nicehash, how does the pool handle a scenario like this where a block is found but the address to which the reward is to be sent is invalid?  Are there any checks in place to alert a miner that the address.worker construct is not correct?

If you mine the block you get 25btc on your address, this is the simple and fastest way to check it since most people have less on their wallet
No, it's not the simple and fastest way to check.  All your program does is check whether or not an address has a balance of more than 20 coins.  Your program will fail at the next block halving since the reward will only be 12.5BTC.

If you're going to implement something, do it right.  Kano has explained exactly how to do it.
