2403  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Any other Americans considering a claim against the FBI over SilkRoad? on: December 04, 2013, 04:58:50 AM
Mmmm, I think its time we set up Bitcoin space nodes. I bet we could buy some launch rights from Greece, fire a high end server or ten into orbit with some Solar panels, and be out of global jurisdiction.

I'm not really a supporter of the Silk Road, nor do I condemn it. I do dislike the U.S ruining everyone's fun though.

Is this going to be the next BCX fiasco?

As you get into Bitcoins, first secure your wallet. Use a dedicated computer if at all possible, or be sure to run virus scans frequently and don't be downloading music from Limewire (hehe, 2008) and make sure you encrypt your wallet and don't forget your password. Online wallets are generally less safe, so I'd recommend Electrum or the Satoshi Client, but keeping a reasonable amount of coin in the Blockchain wallet with a secure password and the before mentioned security, you will be alright. Second, trust no one with your Bitcoins. Think about the law of the wild west, and then remove the shootouts and fist fights, and your adversaries are hundreds if not thousands of miles away. If someone steals your money, chances are they are going to get away with it, so don't give them a chance. After your wallet is secure, you can get by just knowing how to send and recieve transactions. Make sure you set a transaction fee, and double or triple check all addresses involved before sending or recieving payment.

You will get the hang of it, what you can do for now, is get the basics down to prevent financial loss due to not knowing.

Also, always ALWAYS backup your wallets. Get a 1 GB flash drive or something, copy your wallet.dat onto it, and store it in a safe place. If you are going to be holding a lot of coins, more than one copy is advised, as long as its in a secure place.

Not sure how well it would go over for Americans, however I wonder if it is possible for people from other countries to do so? For example, if you were buying drugs in a country that doesn't prohibit said drugs, and the U.S seized your funds, would you not have a claim?

But you know bitcoin's going nowhere but up.
I'll offer 0.225

Hehe, unless it goes down. I'll think about your offer. Of course, I don't expect you to honor the offer if I decide I'll take it tomorrow, and BTC is $2000 per coin or something like that. We can all hope  Smiley
2411  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] R9 290X, 290, 7970 on: December 03, 2013, 06:32:40 AM
I've got a Gigabyte 7970 that I'm looking for $260 shipped in BTC. Its under warranty until May of 2016.

Quite a tempting offer. How does 0.22 sound?

It sounds ok, but 0.24 sounds better  Grin
2412  Other / Meta / Re: Petition: disable 'self-moderation' on: December 03, 2013, 06:30:32 AM
I talked to Mike Christ about this a while ago, and we came to the conclusion that Self Moderation is a handy tool in certain sections, however in sections like Politics and Society, having self moderated threads kind of gets rid of the point of being able to speak whats on your mind.

So mayhaps remove Self Moderation from certain sections where its detrimental and has little to no use, and leave it in places where it is useful.

2414  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling GOLD 1OZ COIN BULLION - MtGox +5% on: December 03, 2013, 06:21:25 AM
Well yes, I too found it a bit fishy you weren't willing to use escrow. Its one thing not wanting to send first, thats a good way to lose your money. However, not wanting to use escrow makes no business sense and puts the red flags up immediately. That and the thread that Goat pointed out certainly didn't help.

Your prices are frankly phenominal, and the fact that you aren't sold out 24/7 also intrigues me. While I wouldn't call you a scammer, because obviously there is no proof, I do find Goat's feedback fair. He didn't call you a scammer, so much as just said that anyone who wished to transact with you should use escrow, something that should be said for 99.9% of the people on the forums.

As at this point you are not a scammer, I'm attempting to treat you as respectfully as possible, so if you take offense, sorry I tried. But there are very few people that should be trusted with thousands of dollars in Bitcoins, and I agree with Goat's assessment.
2415  Economy / Goods / Re: Girl scout cookies for BTC! Update and Rock candy! (flavored and un-flavored) on: December 03, 2013, 06:03:17 AM
 Cry

Offer escrow already, my stomach rumbles every time I pass by this thread. Various members of my household are on diets, so every time I try and buy cookies I get beaten severely and scolded. I plan to order millions of boxes and hide them in my stomach.

That and the girl scouts outside of the grocery stores judge me when I tell them I want 48 boxes of thin mints. They have thin in the name, I don't see why they aren't considered a diet food.
2416  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I am currently country shopping. What are some good ones? on: December 01, 2013, 08:36:49 AM
I'm planning on heading to Ecuador. If you know Spanish, or can pick it up, its highly recommended.
2417  Economy / Economics / Re: When (IF) BTC crash will it land over 1k again? on: December 01, 2013, 08:01:47 AM

Not quite under $1000 on Gox, but it went under $900 on BTC-E an hour ago or so, seems to be recovering just fine.
2418  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: USA capital gains on: December 01, 2013, 07:32:44 AM
Depends, if you lose money, can you claim a tax refund for capital losses?
2419  Economy / Goods / Re: Girl scout cookies for BTC! on: December 01, 2013, 06:16:56 AM
Trade history doesn't matter if you are using a good escrow agent  Smiley

Find one you trust, and I can guarentee you will have a ton of sales, keep me updated. I need to get fat for the winter.
2420  Economy / Goods / Re: Girl scout cookies for BTC! on: December 01, 2013, 06:04:15 AM
I'm incredibly interested. What is the lead time on cookies? Do you have them in stock now, or do you have to place an order and then wait for them to come in?
