2421  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Comprehensive ASICMiner Blade Setup on: October 11, 2013, 01:58:03 PM
My green power connector melted a bit last night, how robust are the boards?  It didn't look bad, but  I need to find another connector or does anyone else have another power solution?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=309001.0

I've got a small collection of blades running overclocked, 24/7/365, no issues. Make sure you run the proper gauge of wire (16ga minimum) and the it's secured properly.

What do you all think of Cointerra?  I was gonna buy from them but then they cancelled their PayPal payment support and tried to tell me PayPal dropped all ASICS companies so of course I sent the guy a link to KNC showing they still accept PayPal and I got no response so I wrote back to Cointerra they're now on my scammer list.

Too bad, they look top notch - with a great team, but no PayPal is a huge red flag.

Can anybody add anything regarding Cointerra?   TIA

Wouldn't touch em  Tongue  No refunds= NO SALE/preorder!!!!!!!!!! No chip or prototype=NO SALE/preorder!!!!!!!!

Come on Bitmine, hurry up  Cheesy  Did I just type that Huh Shhhh, ignore that first sentence  Cheesy

Actually, Cointerra showed its prototype awhile ago, with the FPGA code being executed without issue--the same method KNC and others have used to build a foundation for the chip. I've talked to the owner and, like KNC, I fully back Cointerra. KNC delivered just as I knew they would, and I know Cointerra will also.

One of KNC's greatest strengths was their bevy of engineers who teamed up with globally-known OrSoc. Cointerra's similar strength is the design/engineer team, all former AMD folks who brought you our famous mining GPUs.

IMO, Cointerra is the US equivalent to KNC. I would definitely purchase Cointerra equipment right now if I had the spare cash. They have 1TH and 2TH units, and the best part is, these are being introduced as underclocked. Similar to KNC, you will realize even higher gains when the end of production comes around. With watercooling, you should be able to OC a bit more than the KNC units.

It's cool dudes, much as it was your own choice to take a leap of faith, I feel partly responsible for talking these guys up, but I know a good thing when I see it, and a lot of you kept your heads and backed me up, so I want to see you hashing, and fwiw before me, as well.

I would love to be working for these guys right now, would gladly relocate for the right salary lol. Sleepless nights working with computer equipment? yes please.

what the f... happen with bitcoin rate???

Silk Road was busted, Dread Pirate Roberts is a killer and people is crapping their pants.

True story: http://krebsonsecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/UlbrichtCriminalComplaint.pdf

Fuck me sideways.  Angry Why the hell can't shit like this EVER happen when I have money to spend???

All this hashpower coming, SR busted, floor drops out on a panic, guaranteed profit. DAMN!

I was just thinking the same thing, I have no way to quickly move USD into an exchange to buy BTC.
2426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 02:29:31 PM
I've said this phrase too often, but "Excuse my ignorance", shouldn't CGMiner display the actual mining rate without having to do calculations?
When I look at my erupters mining, it is displaying 333MHash/s each, plain as day. Why not here?
That's because the implementation of the hashrate meter is driver dependent, and in this case, we didn't write the driver. When we do write the driver, the hashrate displayed is the effective valid hashrate only (i.e. not hardware errors).

ahh, and you are planning to do it? will you receive some KNC miner for testing and driver development?
Earlier on knc said they'd engage us early on in the development process... but then didn't, and wrote their own driver for cgminer. I can't predict what they'll do now and how that will impact on whether code will be merged or maintained in cgminer, but I will be asking for them to provide their driver code publicly.
Sigh.
It really wouldn't be that hard for them y'know...

What if 469GH/s is with 1% of chip working? Are we getting 46,9TH/s devices?!
You would probably need a building to power that. or 2

It was likely to fast-track the development/delivery. They were on a razor-thin line to make deadlines and literally cut it by seconds. Delays, even on the software side, would've thrown everything awry. I doubt they didn't want to work with the cgminer team at all, merely they sidestepped the plan at the time. Considering the team will get equipment at some point somehow, it wasn't likely to try and avoid them. Merely, deadlines mattered more.

In some work I've done in the past when it came to deadlines, it was simply easier for me to take something into my own hands and make sure it was checked-off, rather than hand it off to the person it was designated to in the first place. Revisit it in the future, without a doubt.

Has anyone seen the latest statistics from the Jupiter they have mining? It was fluctuating up to 800Ghz AND IS STABLE AT 650!

http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/17Czc8RVL3FU5T2MLx2zLbRnpfBNgH9vFo

That could be more than one machine...maybe Jupiter + Mercury? I wouldn't give too much weight to those numbers unless we know that they're only running 1 Jupiter on those workers.

One clue we were given is they were making, on average, 1.4W/gh. It doesn't mean they were limited solely to 500gh or 600gh either. I'd imagine, especially since the chips have built-in failover, you could get much more provided you worked around providing it more power. The machines are using 860w PSU's. Just like with a AM Blade, more power, up the clock = more cycling.
2427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 01:11:16 PM
So lets say they only make them for 2 weeks - 184% - what will the return on them be? ...

hey Kano, here is very strong base of blindness KNC fans, really recommend you to stop this kind of discussion.)

Lol, it truthfully sucks more people don't look into the numbers this way. I've maintained for awhile that difficulty is going to get stupid. For some reason, folks believe KNC only had a few orders. The magnitude of their actual order quantity is going to send them into shock. Kano's numbers are extremely conservative compared to reality.

The most profitable mining is occuring at this very moment. It's all downhill once the UPS trucks arrive at folks' doorstep around the world.

BFL isn't a major player anylonger, even with the few large miners they have to ship. The Monarch isn't a reality for awhile, aside from the lack of tapeout success, they haven't worked out the heating issues and are already projecting higher power consumption (lolz).
2428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 12:59:29 PM
So anyone can estimate the daily production of units at 22/30 stations?

10 a day per station would seem very very low and would be 300 a day. They said all October orders would be out mid Oct. and I'd easily believe that.
Our roving reporter will know better no doubt Smiley

He already said it takes less than 2 minutes to build a Jupiter, which is what a lot of us presumed to begin with--it's just plugging together modular items. Board, board, cable, cable, etc.
2429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 12:15:13 PM
But it's fun to watch them after that happens - they act kind of like a washing machine that's out of balance - they start walking your gear across the floor and making funny fwoop fwoop sounds....

Hahaha.. yeah, it was like that but far worse. More like a paint agitator, as the fan was mounted to a shelf and everything started rattling and sliding off. The best part was instictively my hand shot toward the fan to catch the screwdriver--luckily my self preservation gene kicked in, and I staved off any slicing and dicing.
2430  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 12:01:57 PM
You're lucky, 'Orama.  If I tried that with a camera, not only would I end up bustnig blades off all the fans, the camera would end up being ruined, too...

LOL.. I had something similar happen this past week, dropped a screwdriver, it bounced lateral into an open-faced fan, broke off a blade at 5,000rpm.. which was not fun.
2431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 11:50:28 AM
April 08 to Sep 30 is 4 months? Right. It's 5.75 months ... anyone got their September delivery yet?

If it wasn't cgminer, I'd wonder about the hash rate being correct ...
... except ... the driver can get it wrong easily enough.
They should have displayed 2^32 * A / Elapsed after about an hour ... hopefully they do run for an hour Smiley ...
... unless they don't know how cgminer works ... oh right they only wrote a 1 or 2k line driver, they probably didn't know about the rest of the other 40k+ lines of code in there ...

I doubt they would provide official numbers on a product they're going to release which would then be heavily scrutinized against said numbers, without verifying their data so they don't end up with a foot in their mouth.

2432  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Butterfly Labs New 600GH "Mining Card" - RED FLAGS?!?! on: October 01, 2013, 11:46:41 AM
Yeah BFL is about to end up dead in the water. As lots of us said before, the Monarch was likely a pump for cashflow to keep them going until they could figure something else out. They claimed their unit was in R&D far longer than KNC's, but all theyv'e done are give super loose estimates and a generic 3D rendering. Sounds like it hasn't been in R&D that long at all, or their engineering team sucks ass.

While it's always been possible to physically fit 600GH into a PCIe card factor, cooling has always been the issue. With monster heat pipe setups such as is on the Jupiter, I would love to see what BFL is coming up with to solve this.

Cash pump.. cash pump.. and they're hoping they can figure out a product for delivery. No refunds possible, no product available, proof they're changing the terms/conditions on current preorders and adding on fees after they've been fully paid.. who's to say they won't do this for the Monarch?

Anyone with this knowledge who willingly gives money to BFL with any expectation of honest business practice has to be beyond salvation mentally. I look forward to buying my Monarch second hand for super cheap. Another coffee-table relic.

So did Dave get back to you in time?

Hi. Unfortunately, no I am still waiting to hear back from Dave. Will place our first order as soon as he is ready.

Make sure he doesn't change the terms/conditions and shipping price, as he's been doing with some other orders lately, increasing the cost after the items have been paid for, and holding them for 'ransom' until the customers pay the extra costs.

Not trying to be a jerk, but this is beginning to happen to BFL orders in waves right now. Just a warning. And it will happen /after/ the item can't be cancelled.
2434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 01, 2013, 11:31:54 AM
Well this was a pretty fun catchup to read this morning. Congrats to the KNC team, this is really exciting. I haven't bought any KNC equipment, I'm just really psyched to see them pull this off. Looks like my 600GH tipoff from 20 pages back was accurate too! Smiley I like when my predictions are accurate lol.

Hashrate is about to double. That makes a 600GH/s miner then as fast (profitable) as a 300GH/s miner now. Fun times!
You should really stop quoting the sockpuppet trolls - Kuroth, Eve, Vigil, Xialia, crumbs....

The number of KNC units sold is huge... huge.. 5 digits huge. It's not unlikely we will see an instantaneous diff change if these things ship out in droves. Double? Who knows, but we're finally entering one of the straightaway upward points on my difficulty prediction chart. To say it would be ongoing would be false, but to doubt the possibility of it drastically increasing/doubling would be a wager I wouldn't place.

These are my numbers for a Jupiter assuming 550GH, no pool fees and 100% uptime. Also original investment of 66BTC PSU+VAT+Shipping (might be less for some), for the next 13 difficulty adjustments (~6 months), assuming you start hashing in 2 days.
In my Spanish excel "," equals "." and dates are in this format "day/month/year"
The % increase per difficulty adjustments I obviously pulled out of my ass, but I think they are consistent with the "several thousand" machines that KNC claim to have already sold, the 500TH friedcat announced for October and bitfurys. I think Hashrate will climb fast to around 3PH and then % increases will slow down, notice how by the beginning of next year we will be aroud 7PH which I think is very plausible.
The break even line is original investment+operating costs.

It looks tight.

I like the visual presentation; I would warn you that you're skewing your results favorably. Factor in a 10% variance for real-life/oh-crap situations and you'll have the most realistic numbers possible. Instead of 550, run it at 495.

And what about the 5V connector.

Should I buy a 230V to 5V DC converter?

This was discussed before. I'd predicted they would use a connector from the PSU since it already provides 5v. In the video, the only cables running from the Jupiter were the PSU power cord and a cat5 cable. I would suspect my theory is correct in that the PSU is providing the 5v--though I'm sure they'll let us know for sure once things ship.

I never believed they would pull it off on such tight timetable, I figured at least a few weeks delays was a given.  Im surprised, and impressed.

Now for the bad news for KnC customers: if KnC can do it, its at least plausible that Hashfast, Bitmine, Cointerra, ActM and what have you, can also do it (yeah, Im skipping BFL). I never thought their timetables where any more credible than KnC's, but thats changed now.  Now look up DnT's spreadsheet with the avalanche of chips coming, and the current ecstasy may not last very long. This could become an even more crazy autumn than I thought possible, and waaay crazier than thegenesisblock suggests.

I wouldn't say it's so much 'bad news' per-sé as it is that by the time these other units ship, KNC owners will have mined the majority of what their systems will mine without loss for its lifetime. It's not as if all these OEMs are shipping at once, it's going to come in waves. My bet is on the bold ones to be seen as the next major players, especially the latter as it has some high-level well-known engineers. I know some folks have some fears, but I suppose we'll see.
2435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 30, 2013, 04:27:04 PM
Sure, all they have to do is plug one up and read the numbers for 5 minutes... is that it?.. no

My guess is They are getting a baseline from multiple rigs to ensure that when they announce the speed that the Crumbs of the world don't criticize them of lying due to speaking too early about the average of their machines.

If one thing this weekend should have taught is that alittle patients goes a long way..

Patience even

How long takes to produce one board?

Judging by the vide, one PCB takes almost 4 minutes from start to finish, but it passes through several pick and place machines that operate in parallel on a conveyer. Hard to say, but Id guess they could do at least one per minute.
That's 1440 boards per one day work (24h). x100GH that's 144TH DAILY. What the diff will be in next month?

Almost as if my calculations a few pages back were spot-on for how many their production line could do.. nice.
