I have some more wallet questions. Apologies in advance if this is very newbie-ish, as I'm used to just downloading a wallet, unzipping... and that's it.

I first tried the mac wallet, but it can't find the blocksource. I tried it a second time after re-installing, and it then kept crashing on startup for me.

So I am trying the win wallet now. I tried to find http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/rc/darkcoinqt.
exe listed on the front page pdf, but it leads nowhere.

So instead just downloaded what is on the 1st page of the coin's website, which seems to at least be starting to sync properly. It's 9.1.2 beta wallet. So it'll be fine if I just use this one, and is it an old one, or newer version? Is this the wallet I should be using?

If I want to get coins from an ancient wallet moved over, I just need to replace the dat from my backup I previously made, right? And with the wallet closed, I assume.

I have a problem, i've just made all the step to register to get free coins, but when i put my id number, it say nothing and i dont see my name in the tracking system ?

Set signature first, and your wallet address on signature then go to site and fill in your id and submit.. Use chrome, seems some issue on firefox.  Smiley

After a bit of frustration, I realized it was firefox causing my problems. Chrome seems to work fine. Not sure about other browsers yet.

Any response from Poloniex? I really think mintpal voting is useless. Just ballparking from the net hashrare, pool hashrate and workers, I'd say we got about 350 miners. Lets add about 50% to that and say 500 fanboys are going to vote on Mintpal. Some will vote all day and some will vote once a day. So lets be generous and assume everyone votes 8 times a day.... remember you can once vote every hour. And mintpal lets you vote 5 times per hour. So that's 40 votes a day. When 500 people do that, we get about 20,000 votes a day. With that kind of dedication we would get voted up there on first place there in 4 days.

But the reality is that we got a really "enthusiastic" crowd that bring in 600 votes a day. Even with the unrealistic probability for this frenzy of first day voting to continue, it would take us a good 4-5 months to reach that winning number of 80,000 Votes. I honestly do not see QBC living that long a life with bittrex. Within 2-3 weeks, people will get rid of their stash to the greater fool and we're going to a get a GreeceCoin like situation where the dev and his sockpuppet and talking amongst themselves to bump the thread, with teh occasional troll to come, have a good laugh and leave  Grin

We will need poloniex to take us first and if it builds volume, mintpal will bypass the voting system and list QBC on the exchange.

I sort of agree. It's a longshot for most coins to get on mintpal within a reasonable timeframe. And sometimes impossible for smaller coins, ever.

The problem right now is there doesn't seem to be a middle-sized exchange besides poloniex anymore, with both cryptorush and coinex going under (or I should say, equivalent to going under).

Which exchange, if any, could be targeted that is in-between bittrex and poloniex in volume? Maybe coined up? Not sure if there is even anyone to look at. But some backup emergency type of exchange should be considered if poloniex simply won't take the coin. After seeing coins like ColbertCoin get listed on poloniex, I would have thought they'd take Quebecoin at the start.
2424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CommunityCoin (COMM) | Pure PoS | ON (BTER - MINTPAL - CRYPTSY) EXCHANGES on: April 27, 2014, 09:07:18 PM

Dev never in any way accounted for his distribution to members, he released two distribution lists that accounted for 723 one million distributions, that alone close to a 100 million shortfall, but those are not matched up with member names and never will be, so the Dev simply had to create as many wallets as he wished, that number only capped by his greed and distribute to himself.

Now even in the OP they have completely changed the rules as to how this coin was promised to be initially distributed,

The development team, consisting of 8 people, received 40m, which included some payment to professionals who otherwise would have required $$$

The original and promised plan was for all members to receive 2 million shares equally including the "Dev" who it is fairly obvious is a single individual not a team of 8 + professional services, what professional services?

Sure not hard drive recovery.  Or getting on CNN.

If "Dev" if he had not been so greedy could have made plenty alone just off the millions in unaccounted for interest (staking) from the distribution wallets but obviously he felt the need to dip deep into member's stakes and make buckets of money at the community expense.

Well, 800-723 = 77M, not 100M+.

Subtract 40M for 8 dev  + pro services - 20M for bounties, and that leaves 17M. I think some or all of that is going to the 200K stake people.

I will agree that the distribution should have been much more clear, the original amounts to the devs stated upfront, and more transparency would have been better. But it doesn't mean the dev is sitting on as many coins as you think (or are saying here).

Try to keep in mind that your "Dev" created this coin solely as a vehicle to steal and profit, stealing 100+ million coins that were supposed to go to community members and dumping them on the exchanges for the profit.  I know you guys are doing your very best to bury this fact and move forward pretending it never happened but I think despite whatever fluff you try to spew out to cover your crooked beginnings no one in any volume will want to pay BTC for free coins that were created as a scam for the Developer.

One day a real community coin will be created that holds true to the ideals this coin falsely claimed to pursue, and that coin will prosper.

This coin is a scam, created by a Dev who openly stole from other community members without repercussions and is soon to be forgotten.

What did the final numbers turn out to be? I never added up all the stakeholders (unfortunately confusing list), but thought the final numbers were around a 40-50M discrepancy, with some people still left, and bounties? Just wondering where that 100M+ number is coming from.

A lot of people are having trouble with the latest non-beta wallet.  And I don't believe we have a RC1 Mac wallet yet.  The second problem is an issue because the code is closed.  Evan is trying to get a setup where he can compile a mac wallet, but I don't think he's gotten there yet???

If I want to go with the win wallet, which version is the newest (or I should say most reliable)? I do keep antivirus on win, firewall, and all that, so it should be safe. I just figured the mac side of my dualboot may be safer, since I rarely use mac os. But if it's flakey, I may just go with the win version for now.

And any issue if I want to move coins from a really old wallet (like back when drk was still cpu only mining)? I left about 100 stranded drk on an old laptop and would like to move them off.

Well, 2 things.  First, you don't even have to have your coins on a machine.  just make a backup of your wallet while it's running, ie: Files => Backup Wallet and give it a name so you know where it came from, such as DRK_Old_Laptop.dat and put it on a jump drive (or take all your backups and put them on several jump drives, then keep those safe in different areas.)

Second way to backup is to simply open up the darkcoin folder when the wallet in NOT running, (in windows it's User/You/AppData/darkcoin/wallet.dat), rename the wallet as above to show which wallet it is and back it up on a jump drive again.

Finally, you can always download the RC1 wallet for windows, deposit all your distributed coins into that one, make a backup of that single wallet.dat file and close out the program (remove the darkcoin folder) from your windows machine.  NOw your coins are in "cold storage" and off line.

1. Please make sure you set a passphrase before you save your wallets, and that it is both complex and that you DON'T FORGET IT EVER!!!

2.  You can even write your passphrase down in a txt file and store it with the jump drives.  But remember, anyone that can get ahold of your jump drives can get your coins.  This can be a good thing if something should happen to you and you want family members to have access to the coin.  This is like having cash hidden away in your home.  Someone could still physically break into your home and steal it.

3.  To get your coins back out of cold storage, install a wallet, then replace the wallet.dat in the darkcoin folder with your DRK_Old_Laptop.dat and rename it to wallet.dat.  Do this when the wallet is closed, not running, then restart the wallet and your coins will immediately be there (as long as the wallet was sync'd)

Thanks. I always do that with my wallet backups, I have backups on flash drives... and extra flash drives... and external drives. I'm umm... very backed up, I guess.

I was just concerned with the old wallet, since I read some people here stating an issue getting coins transferred from them. Just checking before I attempt it if I need to do anything... besides make backups, which I have plenty of. I guess I could install a new wallet, use the old wallet .dat on it, and it should be good? That may be the easiest way to go.

Out of curiosity, do most here use multiple wallets for storing coins, or one wallet? I mean for safety purposes? I don't have a ton of DRK (1Kish), but just trying to figure out the safest way to store them. If DRK shoots up to $10+ eventually, I'd like to keep them safe.

can we raise the price a bit?

Heh, I'd like the opposite to occur. I need some of my other coins to go up, and DRK to at least remain stable where it is, if I want to get anymore.

This quick price hike put a damper on my plans. Too fast for me.

Has ANY coin been terminated yet lol

Nope. This thread is an epic failure Smiley

Is there one thats been hurt substantially?

No saying I necessarily support this concept. Just follow it.

They named some coins that sort of became irrelevant on their own. They didn't need any help to die off, nor died from any forking. I think AUR was the one most talked about, and in the end it became stronger by fixing that gravity well exploit. So... umm... one coin was helped in the end, and a handful died off from natural causes?

So what did you actually do? In case I will encounter similar problems.

I just went to the console on the wallet and typed in 'repairwallet' and pressed enter. Then closed/reopened my wallet, and the coins were back.

I have a bizarre wallet/delivery issue I hope someone can help me with. I tried to send 50K coins to Mintpal, and noticed it was seemingly taking forever. So I check my wallet today and see that the transaction has zero confirmations.

I close/re-open the wallet, make sure its synced... same issue.

Basically it looks like my delivery got sent to nowhere, as the address is correct, but no coins at mintpal, no confirmations and the coins are no longer in my wallet.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

try repairwallet in console

Yay, that worked!

Just so I know in the future, why do errors like that even occur? I haven't been into cryptos very long (couple of months), so assumed if a coin was in a wallet, it'd be nice and safe. I'm not used to deliveries to nowhere, unless a coin is completely forked ... but didn't think that was the case with comm.

And I assume (or hope) it's okay to move my coins off the wallet now without having to delete/alter any files or do any other odd things to my wallet?
2432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 27, 2014, 07:16:20 PM
I tested it and it works for me. And yes it's the current version without DarkSend.
Delete the folders blocks and chainstate in \AppData\Roaming\DarkCoin and let the wallet resync.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

One other question ... I have an old windows wallet on laptop, with about 100 coins on it. Will that old wallet sync okay, and can I just send the coins from it without problems? I read some people having old wallet issues.

I'd like to get all my scattered coins into a mac wallet, keep it safe on the mac side of my dual-boot machine, and just leave them there. Figure since I tend to use win most of the time, it's like keeping them offline on a 2nd machine... sorta.
2433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 27, 2014, 07:13:06 PM
bought 4btc drk at 500   Huh Huh I;m the worst trader  Cry

I sold some of my dark at something like 24 or so, bought it back at 51, lost half of 'em!  I think I deserve the crown.

On the other hand, I'm glad what I have is back in dark, and I won't screw up like that again.  Don't be too concerned, seriously, I'm certain it will be going up so much higher, it won't matter.

That's why I am afraid to ever trade coins like that. I'm a pretty bad trader, so unless a coin shoots up 10x in several hours, I don't exactly feel confident that I'll know where the top is (and even then I'm not confident), or when to buy back in. It's tempting... only time I've even tried it, I made a mighty .01 btc on a coin ... and then the next day the coin tanked, so it was all meaningless anyway. I find Drk really hard to figure out from a price standpoint ... for ages it seemed like it should be worth more... then it shoots up seemingly for no reason... falls back down some after rc announced. I think it sort of has the 'lead up' price hike thing going on, where it'll shoot up high based on expectations, but once those expectations are announced, it may retreat a little bit. I don't have enough DRK to feel safe trading any, so probably will just hold for a long time.

I'm new to darkcoin and don't know much about it, but I noticed that Darkcoin.io has an old windows binary. The download on the front page is 0.9.1.2. It's not cool. That should be changed!

I know, both developers have their noses to the grindstone lately, and I can imagine it's hard to switch to do the mundane of keeping the website up to date, especially because the design is still up in the air... Ugh!

Where is the newest mac wallet to use? I don't have a ton of coins (maybe 1000ish) but sort of want to consolidate them in a safe place now. I tried using the mac wallet from the main website, but it couldn't sync. Is there a better wallet? Or do I need to set up some files on it or something?

Hmm... does that differ from the one upon their website? I wonder why it wouldn't sync for me. Pretty sure that is the one I used.

I'm honestly surprised the coin is as low as it is. By specs, it should be at least around 750-1000 right now. That is probably why there are so few sales at its current price.

The things that work against it is that compared to similar coins, like comm, there seems to be less activity and chatter here. That, and there are seemingly like 3+ information ann threads, so even finding the right one may not be obvious to people.

Getting the coin on MintPal/Cryptsy would be a real boon.

Question about staking... how long do coins remain in 'stake' mode?
2438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][QBC] Québecoin - X11 - DGW - (BITTREX) - Win/Mac/Linux Wallets - New on: April 25, 2014, 05:33:43 PM
As someone has already stated, one issue regarding price is that the nation coin fad seems to have died down. So referencing spaincoin pumps or similar prices probably don't apply. So no pumps yet, and less price activity based on normal nation coin things, like airdrops. That was one of my concerns about the coin, as without the normal nation coin promo stuff, less people may be interested to start with ... then lower prices. It doesn't help that the coin is only on bittrex.

So long as the coin gets on a bigger exchange and some promotion occurs, including the giveaways to some quebec people like has been planned, I think the price will bounce up a bit. Multipool should help some too. I am not sure if it'd be a good idea to go too slow with it though, as the longer the dev waits, the greater the chance people will just forget about the coin. If poloniex doesn't take the coin, I'm not sure where else to look ... as other places are even smaller or are at best on par with bittrex volume.

It is weird how quickly fads change in cryptoworld. We went from memes, to nation coins, to pos + multipool + giveaway in like 10 weeks or so. Just during the delay between this coin's ann and its release, an entire coin fad sort of changed.

Ignore the troll. It is weird how almost every new coin gets their own troll nowadays. Or multiple. You'd think moderators should really start suspending some of them. Anyway, whatever qualms he has about the dev, distribution, or whatever he whines about, only became an issue to him after he admitted he sold his Comm. So it's not a moral issue, nor does he has altruistic motives, trying to protect people ... as otherwise he would have brought it up earlier. He either is the sour grapes sort or is a troll with no life, or both.

Yes.. both I guess. Look at his posting history from profile.

The posts are rather like random words which have little meaning.

I take it that there is no way to suspend/ban trolls if people report them to a moderator? I mean, bringing up concerns is one thing. But trolls go way beyond that. The giant letters are sort of a tip-off. I know moderators are anti-spam and have shut down threads due to people spamming forums with short giveaway posts. Why don't they ban trolls, which produce way more spam?
