It's all about estimation and odds/probability.
Estimations and statistics are useless if your underlying model is flawed... Truth is you can't tell which coins are lost or used as savings account, you can't even estimate it correctly.

A proper dump like we've seen in the past could easily take out everything down $13. I'm waiting for that one, and the subsequent panic selling. I think you meant "down to 13", down by 13 would be ... well, quite spectacular.

jesus f. christ! Turk just can't let go of the tangibility issue. He should read Trace Mayers opinion on that. He probably has but doesn't agree.
He has a point about the long history of gold, but I think the transactional properties of bitcoin more than make up for that.
I think Turk's opinion about gold vs bitcoin is more about certainty and safety, and less about what exactly the definition of tangibility is. I kind of agree, the value of gold as a physical commodity will never go to 0, there is no counter-party risk etc. The only thing that would seriously harm golds valuation long-term is if its monetary aspect was lost because of a better alternative.... something like bitcoin (which is why i own both ). To me, bitcoin is golds monetary properties on speed, but there are certain risks involved.

You mean absent an obvious reason (like mayor government declares war on bitcoin, a successfull attack or something like that)?
Hell, I would bend over to kiss my lucky ass and buy the hell out of it...

You'd do well to buy shares of Satoshi dice. Think of it as an investment of an investment. Bitcoins grew in value, and Satoshi dice did too. From 0.0048 - 0.006 now. That's a nice increase.
Indeed. 80% ROI in less 2 weeks but what's the next step I would buy some shares of SD if it was not so difficult. Indeed it took me hours and lot of patience to get into it! But it (currently) worth it, I hope ! I was considering buying like a month ago, but the 30 BTC mpex buy-in fee is too steep for my taste... That plus I am wondering what is stopping SDice competitors from coming up with a clone site with better odds (maybe some already exist?). So far not the best choice not to buy, but hey, I can live with the decision.

I'm no expert but is what Adam doing not "shorting"? Or does shorting have another definition?
Normally, shorting means you sell things that you don't already own (so you have to borrow them from your broker/exchange/whatever). Otherwise, its just plain old selling.

Huh? No it didnt , are you looking at 1-year chart?

So what is being zhoutonged?
zhoutong made a the first trading platform which alowed users to short sell bitcoin (or go long) with leverage( meaning you could trade with up to 10times more money then you actually had in the account) the catch was if you went short and the price went up to much all your funds would go to zhoutong. so we called it getting zhoutonged Oh, k , thanks for the first understandable post .

oh when I "short" I mean I'm selling on the exchange with intention to buy back lower....
lol, you know thats not shorting right, thats just not being long So what is being zhoutonged?

M0 generally only includes "Notes and coins (currency) in circulation".
If you are looking for a measurement that includes things like personal bank accounts and various electronic records of money then you are looking at something more like MB (includes Federal Reserve Bank credit) or M1 (includes traveler's checks of non-bank issuers, demand deposits, credit union share draft accounts, and other checkable deposits).
Oh, ok, thanks!

You made your bet yesterday? Oh, does it work with 1-day cut-offs? I did not know that (if so, which geographical location is used to determine this?). No, I bet today, but prior to the 15.38 being breached.

One thing I would add to "how do I store bitcoins" is the fact that you should refresh your backups before doing more than 100 transactions. This is something that took me a while to find out, and vague references to it kinda scared me when I was starting out (which isnt that long ago ). I am assuming it works the same way for multibit as for the original client.

Great idea
In "What is Bitcoin":
I find "Well, bitcoins don't get value from any words of government, which is known as "fiat"." somewhat confusing. I mean, I know what fiat is, but some people might interpret this sentence as " not getting value from goverment = fiat " (even though you use 'instead' in the next sentence).
Personally, I would change " bitcoins get value because people who learn how they work often begin to want them" to "bitcoins get value because they are scarce and useful, both as a medium of exchange and as a store of value."
"This makes Bitcoin a deflationary currency rather than an inflationary one, meaning the value of each bitcoin will probably increase over time, instead of decrease." --> depends on whether you are talking about price inflation or monetary inflation (you are probably talking about price inflation). Maybe change to "This makes Bitcoin resistant to inflation, meaning its value won't be eroded over time"?

Someone just thrown a yes coin there, after >$15.38 happended. Would that count as long as admin don't close the bet or would he cut off and return all bets after it hit? Or take over as a penalty for cheating? Coins will be returned for bets that was placed after the event happened. Somebody just tried for for 1 BTC though, too late buddy ! Tried for what? I know you can still bet on it, but your late bets will be returned after the admin determine the event cut off time. Yes, but that person probably didnt know that.

Seems like only yesterday I was considering buying at 14.3$ ... Oh wait, it was! Actually, my funds just didn't clear in time , damn you banking system, damn you !!! Still waiting for my funds to get there since last week. I'm never using gox again. If you'd done any research you'd know people have been having issues. There are other ways. If you haven't sorted it out by this time then that's not their fault, it's yours. There are so many people blaming others for their own mistakes on this forum. It's hard to watch. I wasn't really blaming them, more for the 'comical effect' (hey, I am trying...) than anything else. Actually, my funds cleared today, but I thought 14.8 was pretty high, wanted it to go back to 14.4 before buying, guess that wasn't the best idea.
