2481  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin dominance hits 57.7%, alts lagging behind on: November 16, 2020, 11:15:46 AM
Bitcoin shows everyone else again time after time that the true value of crypto lies not in all the hype circles of altcoins of ICOs and STOs and IEOs and DeFI,,, but in actual coins with actual utility.

Of course, we will continue to find other uses and other things. You know people will keep on coming up with them. But you cannot go wrong with faith in the one true coin;)

Coins with real life usage have increased their market share. Look at USDT (Tether). It is having an actual use, as in countries such as China traders are using it to exchange other coins to fiat. Tether is now the third largest cryptocurrency in terms of market cap. It's market cap increased from $4 billion to $18 billion during the last 12 months. And during the same period, the market cap of USDC increased from $214 million to $2.8 billion.

On the other hand, shitcoins have seen their market cap go down. XRP market cap is down by 10%. BSV shitcoin has seen its market cap plummet from $5.2 billion to $2.9 billion. The TRX shitcoin has lost one-third of its market capitalization during the last two months.

@Xavofat while your points are valid, but MI will yet choose Pollard because he’s marketable and in T20 format he’s a bigger brand then De Kock is. @bryant.coleman I don’t think that it’s so easy to replace De Kock, because once you look at his stats you’ll realise that he should not leave MI.

If I have to chose between Pollard and de Kock, then I would go for the former. Pollard is someone who is capable of single-handedly winning matches for his team. He can destroy the opposing team in a matter of one or two overs, by thrashing the bowlers all over the park. De Kock is a good player, but he doesn't have that ability to win matches on his own.
2483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal Reaches 85% of Binance.US Volume on: November 16, 2020, 10:51:09 AM
Yeah, and 98,7% of the people on Linux forums don't understand why people use windows, bitcoiners are always biased and they try to imagine that the whole world is running based on the same principles they are using in their daily life. Paypal managed to bring something new, a way to buy coins with ease, keep them safe for you, no need for wallets or other things, and no need for an extra account. I can't wait for their report next year's, they will have to publish some numbers, it's going to be pretty interesting to see how many coins they hold.

Can't put it any better than this. Four years ago, when I ventured in to cryptocurrency sector for the first time, I faced a lot of these issues. I wanted to purchase Bitcoin, but it was impossible to make a cash deposit in any of the cryptocurrency exchanges from India. It took me a couple of months to understand how P2P platforms work and I was finally able to purchase BTC using localbitcoins. But then storage was another major concern. A lot of users were complaining about their wallets getting hacked and initially I was quite nervous about the same happening to me as well.
2484  Economy / Economics / Re: Oil and USA dollar problem for USA covid 19 New oil on: November 16, 2020, 10:41:24 AM
Has anyone noticed the jump in crude oil prices after Biden won the elections? Brent crude was trading at $38 per barrel before the elections and now this has jumped to $43.50 per barrel. The industry expects Biden to crack down on US shale oil production and this is going to benefit the OPEC nations. Also, if this happens then US might be forced to import more crude oil from the middle-east. In the long-term, I expect the crude prices to rise to three digit levels.
2485  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: November 16, 2020, 10:31:27 AM
The problem is the people in power, i do not think corruption is the main cause of the lack of talents coming into the team but the way in which they merit the players according to the color rather than skills, the political situation in those countries are not favorable either and these scenarios will have an impact on the outcome. If the cricket board is giving effort in the junior division in finding talents then the situation will change but who knows what is going on.

From what I have seen, many of these quota players give an impression that they are in it only in for the money. They don't have any love for the game. This can be seen from their attitude, while playing against top 3 sides. Anyway, there is no point in debating about this again and again, as the situation is unlikely to change in the near future. Both Zimbabwe and South Africa will fade away, while new teams such as Nepal and PNG will replace them in the next few decades.
2486  Economy / Economics / Re: China is looking to get rid of the US dollar on: November 16, 2020, 10:21:22 AM
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a new 20 trillion import duty on china If  does not change its position a 10 percent tariff will be imposed the remarks raised fears of an ongoing trade war between the two countries. Imports at a rate of will be imposed on goods worth imported from China to the United States. If beijing does not back down from its decision to impose tariffs on US goods the united states will impose more tariffs that is why china wants to get rid of the US dollar.

Trump is trying to make things very difficult for Biden. Trump has two months remaining in his term. He is likely to impose a large number of sanctions on China, and Biden will find it difficult to retract them once he is in office. These sanctions are like double edged sword, but they have a greater impact on China. Trump has already accused Biden of being soft on China. And if Biden tries to remove the sanctions, then it can tarnish his reputation.
2487  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US Presidential Election 2020 and its impact on gambling on: November 16, 2020, 10:11:21 AM
Biden on his campaign promised to close tax loopholes for the rich and make them pay what they need to. He might do that but I don't think he'll be increasing the taxes for most of the part. It's still can't be said for exact as there have been claims of corruption and differential behavior to the business as well. There's an increasing trend of giving tax cuts for their supporter while increasing it for the ones who didn't supported him.
For gambling, it's been known that gambling tycoons had graced for Biden, he won't be hurting them.

The rich are already paying around 40% of their income as tax, while the middle-class is paying somewhere between 12% and 22%. If we take in to account the long term capital gains tax, then those at the highest income tax bracket are paying 20%, while the middle-class pay 0%. Biden wants to increase these rates, which can result in capital flight. Just remember what happened in France, when François Hollande imposed the 75% tax on the rich.
2488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Indian boy committed suicide after losing money by Betting in IPL on: November 16, 2020, 10:01:28 AM
But I guess that some people still gambling in secret places because if something is prohibited or banned, people will search for another way to do that thing. I think what people do related to someone who is playing gambling and loses money in gambling is right. They can blame people who are playing gambling, but it is better to help that person solve his problem in gambling. So if that person has addicted to gambling, they can help it and visit the psychiatrist together.

If someone is indulging in gambling illegally, then he is very unlikely to consult a psychiatrist or a sociologist to discuss his addiction. Because he risks getting reported to the police. This is the problem when you have a regressive government which imposes useless bans on certain sectors. And India is not the only country where gambling is banned. It is the same story in most of the South Asian nations.
2489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: November 15, 2020, 01:49:16 PM
As far as i see, he did not want to see the update of PSL, he only wanted to point out that PSL tournament is not much covered in cricinfo so i told him that this is not the case and  i guided him that its depends upon which region he has selected in cricinfo.  Smiley

Espn-Cricinfo (Indian edition) has scant coverage of PSL. I guess Sithara007 is from India and that is why she is not noticing the updates on PSL. I am also using the Indian edition, and I would also confirm the same. And here in India, none of the Sports channels are covering PSL (DSports had the TV rights, but they were prohibited from showing PSL by the government). Yesterday I watched the Qalandars vs Zalmi match live on YouTube. But the quality was really bad.
2490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An Indian boy committed suicide after losing money by Betting in IPL on: November 15, 2020, 01:31:04 PM
He only thinks that suicide will solve the problem because he doesn't live anymore. We must take the lesson behind his story and don't let ourselves falls into gambling or one of our family have experiences in the gambling industry. And never let ourselves in the trouble that can not realize how dangerous that thing. Let us use gambling to search for entertainment.

Here in India, there is a lot of taboo related to gambling. First of all, it is banned here and if you are still indulging in gambling, then that means that you are breaking the law. And secondly, if you tell some of your friends and relatives that you have lost money in gambling, then they are more likely to blame you rather than provide any sort of help. And we don't know, whether this guy had approached any of his friends or relatives before his suicide.
2491  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network on: November 15, 2020, 01:26:28 PM
Assuming they will eventually enable transferring bitcoin in and out and using coins for commerce transactions at anyplace that accepts PayPal currently, that will be a big deal.  I'm not sold on PayPal allowing buying Bitcoin alone being a game changer.  It's nice to have the option, but there are plenty of places to buy bitcoin already.

Yes. There are plenty of places to buy Bitcoins. You can purchase from exchanges such as Binance/Huobi, peer-to-peer platforms such as Localbitcoins/Bisq or even from Bitcoin ATMs. But while these options may sound familiar for us, for the vast majority of the people out there, these options are complicated. They don't trust unregulated exchanges such as Binance. However, they would be ready to put their trust in PayPal, which is regulated and operating for more than two decades.
2492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple the next bitcoin? on: November 15, 2020, 01:19:14 PM
I have always opposed this shitcoin called Ripple. If you check my previous posts, you can see why I have opposed XRP. And you can check the performance of XRP so far this year. It's exchange rate has plummeted from 3300 Satoshi to around 1600 Satoshi. That means that those who invested in this shitcoin is now sitting on top of more than 50% loss.
2493  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: November 15, 2020, 01:13:05 PM
DC will perform way better in the future, their performance was way better than other teams in this season. A few changes within the team batting line up and I do not think it will be possible for MI to win against them in the next IPL season.

The primary problem with them is that they are a young team which lack experience and that is the main reason for their inconsistent performance. Given time and more exposure these guys can perform in the future.

You never know. The next IPL auction is scheduled in a few months. The franchises can retain only a maximum of 4 players. This can have a huge negative impact on franchises such as Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. They will be forced to release some of their best players. Selecting 4 out of 7-8 key players can be cumbersome for the team management as well.
2494  Economy / Economics / Re: Dow Jones could crash by up to 4000 points if Biden locks USA!!! on: November 15, 2020, 01:07:13 PM
It will be foolish to shut down the economy now, when the pandemic is retreating. Most of the pharma companies have also announced that the vaccines will be available in the market from next month onwards. And also, from what we have seen lockdowns have only a limited impact in reducing the number of deaths from COVID 19. Countries which refused to impose any sort of lockdowns were the first to recover (examples are Pakistan and African nations).
2495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are we all fools on believing the word "HOLD"? on: November 15, 2020, 01:01:12 PM
Holding did worked for early bitcoin buyers. But you should know when to exit. Anyone holding in and through the last all time high and at current time might be holding coins for 10 years without any profit. You can have your profit only when you sell. So, it's better to look at the market and buy and sell so that you be happy with your investment. Bitcoin may reach 100K in the future but there's no certainty and it would be not worth if it took another 100 years.

The problem is that altcoins are different from Bitcoin and they can't be compared. Bitcoin, back in 2011 and 2012 was a heavily underpriced asset. As a result, those who invested in it made a lot of profit. On the other hand, nowadays most of the altcoins are heavily overpriced and they are kept afloat through a lot of price manipulation. I would not recommend long term hold with them.
2496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏏🏏 sportbet.one 🏏🏏 [IPL 2020] Prediction pool and discussion 🏏🏏 on: November 15, 2020, 12:55:14 PM
I am grateful to Royse777, for organizing this pool and finding the sponsors. Almost 80% of the rewards came from sponsorship and only around 20% came from the joining fee. In most of the betting pools I have participated, the sponsor share was more like 5% to 25%. Also, the reward pool was well planned. Out of the two dozen or so who participated, 7 received rewards (including me). This is also a very high share.
2497  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: November 15, 2020, 12:49:19 PM
This is so sad and will probably not help at all. They should be trying to fix their economy instead of printing new money. Who is actually going to use such a bill? I saw in a documentary about Venezuela that most stores are not accepting bolivar anymore as a means of payment. Most restaurants and stores only accept USD these. Around 70% of the families have atleast one family member living abroad send money, usually USD to Venezuela.

Venezuela has so many natural resources that the country should be flourishing with the right government. They need to eliminate corruption and make new economic reforms to get back on track.

During the last 4-5 years, millions of Venezuelans have migrated abroad. Now there is a large Venezuelan community in Florida (which was very vocal in its support for Donald Trump, in the recently concluded presidential elections). But then, getting the USD banknotes to Venezuela can be a tricky game. As per the official policy, all the remittance payments must be converted to the national currency, once they reach Venezuela.
2498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: US Presidential Election 2020 and its impact on gambling on: November 15, 2020, 12:43:23 PM
Before becoming is the president is the speech and after becoming and realizing the various factors would be different because now directly he would be responsible if by increasing taxes the  revenue decreases and I am sceptical he would be doing so, because now after pandemic it has already effected all businesses.

Biden has proposed a huge increase in the welfare budget. So in order to fund this increase, he needs to find funds. Either he can raise the taxes, or he can borrow from various donor agencies. The second option doesn't look very attractive right now, because the federal debt is already at sky-high levels. Anymore increase in the federal debt level can cause a collapse of the economy.
2499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin do you trust, BNB or ETH? on: November 15, 2020, 12:37:21 PM
Right now the poll is showing 88% of the votes for Ethereum and just 12% for BNB. A few years back, I would have believed it. But now, I would say that Ethereum is not in a good condition. The transaction fee is rising steadily and the Blockchain is unable to accommodate an increase in the number of users. On top of that, a lot of people are not happy with the implementation of ETH 2.0. On the other hand, Binance is still doing pretty good as an exchange.
2500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How will crypto behave during a Biden presidency? on: November 15, 2020, 12:31:26 PM
much probably it will be a 0 impact on crypto related things. at least for the next presidency it could be early see an active interest by USA administration.
personally I see only a strong and growth interest in crypto currencies (and bitcoin) from private entities,

I have to disagree. In most cases, the exchange rates of BTC and other cryptocurrencies increase when the economy is growing. And there are widespread fears that Biden will undo all the good work that Trump has done during the last 4 years, with a combination of additional lockdowns and higher taxes. He hasn't started his term yet, but I would be carefully watching each of his policy steps.
