1521  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 31, 2021, 04:53:38 PM
The inclusion of two foreign spinners in the squad is nothing but nonsense. When they have great native spinners like Jadeja. I think a foreign pace bowler should be included in the squad. And foreign batsmen should be given a chance. Foreign batsmen perform somewhat better than domestic batsmen. On the other hand, Moin Ali has been bought at a much higher price. Looks like he'll be in the squad. If he fails to perform as expected, Imran Tahir will be given a chance.

Tahir is just unlucky. He is one of the best spinners in T20 format, despite his age. But CSK is one of the teams that depends heavily on overseas players and therefore it is difficult to accommodate him. Also, middle order is the weak spot for CSK and they need someone like Moeen to strengthen them in that component. For most of the other franchises, Tahir would be an automatic selection for the playing XI. But as I said, he is just unlucky to be with the CSK.
1522  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 31, 2021, 04:37:21 PM
in this stage of the qualifying anything can happen actually. because even if teams do not play well, they have many games remaining to recover.
Turkey 3-3 was a big surprise.

The draw conceded by Turkey was actually a shocker. Consider this - they managed to defeat the Netherlands and Norway, by quite emphatic margins. And in the third match they concede draw against a weak Latvia. How bad it can go from here? A win against Latvia would have made them the undisputed kings of Group G, but now just one point separates them from Norway, Netherlands and Montenegro.
1523  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BNB still undervalue on: March 31, 2021, 01:11:56 PM
My guess is that there will be a jump in BNB exchange rates once Coinbase gets listed in the stock market. The IPO is scheduled for April, and we can expect the listing by late April, or early May. Indications are that there is a lot of interest on this IPO and it will generate a positive response in the market. If the valuation tops $100 billion (pre-IPO valuation stands at $68 billion), then we can expect a corresponding spike with BNB as well.
1524  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-03-15] [Reuters] India to propose cryptocurrency ban, penalising miners on: March 31, 2021, 01:00:38 PM

Has he actually been convicted and was he actually guilty? When the story first broke of his arrest it seemed he may have been a scammer but there was no certainty about it.

Don't have any recent information related to escrow.ms (his real name is Pankaj Bhardwaj). He was arrested in 2016, but he used to be one of the most trustworthy Bitcoin traders in India during the 2012-15 period. I don't know what happened after that. He used to play a very important role in Coinsecure, but they removed him after his arrest.

Here is the original thread in Bitcointalk that deals with his arrest:

And here is a news article which deals with the same topic:

1525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Debunking the "Bitcoin is an environmental disaster" argument. on: March 31, 2021, 12:43:36 PM
In general, I think this problem is completely contrived. The question is raised about the consumption of energy when mining bitcoin, as if there is an acute problem in us. The use of solar panels can very quickly solve this problem, because the energy reserves of the sun are practically inexhaustible. In any case, you can oblige the miners to use the energy of the sun and wind.

If the Bitcoin miners want to go for green energy, then I welcome that step. But as of now, I don't think that there is any need for us to worry about these stupid arguments. First of all, according to the critics Bitcoin mining consumes 0.6% of all the electricity generation in the world. Out of that, a large fraction may be from coal-fired thermal power plants. Is this 0.6% such a big number? Why these people are focusing so much on this 0.6%, and ignoring the remaining 99.4%?

It is time for Bitcoiners to take a strong stance against these propaganda mongers. No one is providing electricity for free. Bitcoin miners are paying for the electricity and if these people have any issue then they should take it with those who work in electricity generation. It is like blaming someone who own a car for all the global warming that is occurring.
1526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal created crypto checkout service!! on: March 31, 2021, 12:32:18 PM
im wondering how they will handle payments done with btc for tax purposes. like do you get a 1099 or something? do you have to keep track of your cost basis and such yourself?

Any income coming from cryptocurrency payments are settled in fiat. PayPal users may choose to pay their purchases using cryptocurrencies but the merchants tied up with PayPal will not be receiving payments in cryptocurrencies. They will get funds in fiat. So I guess they will still fill out 1099 forms for tax purposes. But everything will be fiat-denominated. In this case, the US dollar.

The user will be selling his PayPal BTC to PayPal USD, so there may be a need to mention this in the tax returns. And the IRS has made it mandatory to report all the cryptocurrency transactions (irrespective of their size) in the tax return. So if you have hundreds of smaller payments, then it may turn out to be a huge hassle when you file your returns. But there is a chance that by the end of the financial year PayPal may provide you a summary of all such transactions, and you may use the data directly to file the return.
1527  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 31, 2021, 12:08:30 PM
There are FIFA world cup qualifier matches tonight

Bosnia & Herzegovina - France
England - Poland
Germany - North Macedonia
Lithuania - Italy
Spain - Kosovo

I feel this will be a straightforward for France, England, Germany, Spain and Italy in their qualifying rounds tonight and ofcourse scoring atleast 2 goals each; what are your predictions ?

Spain has been struggling since the start of the tournament. During the last match also, it was Georgia which was leading at half-time. Is there a chance of Kosovo able to hold Spain to a draw? England vs Poland is going to be interesting, but I am not expecting any surprises as the former is in good form. Today most of the matches are quite predictable. Chances of upset are low. A few matches are there where surprises can happen, such as Austria vs Denmark.
1528  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: March 30, 2021, 07:13:47 PM
Russia has a lot of money. And the joke is that they have money for any idiotic projects, including the support of absolutely idiotic rulers, or even criminal regimes. But there is no money for its citizens! For them (the population of Russia) the retirement age is increasing, incomes, the level of social services, medicine, and education are decreasing. But they will allocate billions of dollars to support the inadequate Maduro. Such is the strange form of idiocy in Russia Smiley

They undertake "idiotic" projects so that they will receive returns from it in the future. I am talking about projects such as Nord Stream 2 and Power of Siberia pipeline. These projects cost a lot of money, but ultimately they are going to benefit them. On the other hand, what are they going to gain from a bankrupt country such as Venezuela, where the currency notes are valued less than toilet paper? No one will be stupid enough to spend their money in such a country.
1529  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: March 30, 2021, 07:01:35 PM
Of course, pharmaceutical companies aren't a charity, they expect to make money from vaccines or any Covid-19 related medicine. We're supposedly paying for taxes, which includes health care and any pharmaceutical assistance we may need. Thus, the governments are paying for these vaccines through taxation, it isn't exactly free for its citizens.

Here in India, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is mass produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII). In the beginning, they demanded the government that they should receive ₹1000 (around $13) per dose for the vaccine. But the government refused and after many rounds of hard negotiations, the price was fixed at ₹200 per dose (around $2.50). SII is not happy about it, but right now they can't do anything about it. On top of that, the government has also imposed export restrictions on the vaccines produced by SII, thereby further reducing their profits.
1530  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 30, 2021, 06:48:19 PM
Poverty is not in wallets, poverty is in our heads!
There is a concept - genetic poverty, it is a complex "disease", it is difficult to "cure". This requires knowledge, this requires perseverance, this requires an understanding of the processes around. Unfortunately, most of the so-called "poor" simply do not want to learn and change. You cannot wait for changes if you continue to do everything as before! You need to CHANGE! Learn, change, spend energy. But poor people tend to be very lazy and very afraid of change. Their ideology is better than $ 1 a day of guaranteed income for collecting secondary raw materials than long-term studies, finding their abilities, finding and realizing themselves, competing with others. But in any case - to moan about their poverty and what all those who are richer than him are bad.

The politicians want them to live like that. I am from India and there are hundreds of millions out here who are dependent on government handouts. Nowadays, a large percentage of the government revenue is being spent on providing handouts (either in cash, or in the form of free electricity and other services). Those who receive these handouts make sure that their vote goes to the ruling party. It is like a never ending cycle.
1531  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 30, 2021, 06:28:08 PM
I am expecting him to bat at number 5 position because Raina is back into CSK so he is the best ever batsmen at that position for CSK all the time and number 4 will be Rayudu so Curran at 5 and Dhoni at 6 will be good for destructive death overs for sure and more to add that left and right combo will work and shatter the bowlers line which has been missing in CSK last year due to the absence of Raina.

Raina at no.4 and Curran at no.5 will be really good for CSK. Because one of the issues they faced last time was the slow batting by middle-order (especially from Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni). They have very good top order (Robin Uthappa/Faf du Plessis) and it was due to the slow middle order that they lost so many matches last time, which they would have won otherwise. Raina and Curran should be able to take care of that.
I don't think Robbie will play as an opener for CSK because I guess he was bought as a backup opening batsman since they already have faf and Gaikwod to open the innings so in case of injury or poor performance may get him a chance or else he will be at the bench for this season.

I don't even know whether this Gaikwad guy will find a slot in the playing XI. Robin Uthappa was in terrific form for Kerala during the domestic tournaments recently. And in all probability, CSK will go for Uthappa - du Plessis combo. BTW, if Bravo is fit to play then CSK will face selection conundrum. They can include only 4 overseas players. So in case Bravo, Faf and Curran are selected, only one among these players can be included: Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, Imran Tahir, Josh Hazlewood, Lungi Ngidi and Hardus Viljoen. Can they really afford to drop Hazlewood?
1532  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 30, 2021, 06:14:19 PM
The African countries you are talking about are covered with crises on a regular basis. It does not depend on pandemics, world crises, it is almost a "tradition". And the reason for this is the local population and their governments. no matter how they talk about their integration into the developed world - this will not happen soon. There are many fundamental problems that are absolutely independent of external factors. And these problems are generated by the local population, not wanting to accept the civilized rules of the "game", doing business, building a legal framework and its observance, building a competitive economy. And without this they will always remain the countries of the 3rd world, a raw material appendage and centers of violence and lawlessness.

Can't deny it completely. Most of the African nations are not homogenous (although there are a few exceptions such as Mauritania and Cape Verde). The ethnic and religious groups are always in conflict against each other, exacerbated by the reducing availability of natural resources. For example, in the Sahel region, there is an ongoing conflict between mostly Muslim cattle herders and mostly Christian farmers over access to grazing/farming land. Then there are religious conflicts, which are present in almost every country in the African continent.
1533  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 30, 2021, 06:04:23 PM
Somehow Serbia managed to win the match, thanks to a double from Aleksandar Mitrović. They were win trouble after Azerbaijan held them 1-1 for most of the duration. On paper they completely dominated the match, with 67% possession. But that goal from Emin Mahmudov (from a penalty) changed the equation. Anyway, in the end Serbia received three points from the match. Now they have 7 points from 3 matches (draw against Portugal in the second match).

^^^ India do have the second highest number of internet users and it is having the cheapest rates for mobile internet (3G/4G). On top of that, India is home to tens of millions of IT engineers. If the government was at least a bit more friendly towards cryptocurrency, then it could have resulted in huge number of new jobs and billions of USD in tax revenue for the authorities. But as of now, the cryptocurrency users in India face all sort of harassment from the authorities.
1536  Economy / Economics / Re: Food Prices Are Soaring Faster Than Inflation and Incomes on: March 30, 2021, 09:45:59 AM
What happened in the Suez Canal will also become one of those triggers that could start the avalanche of inflation on prices which were kept under control for too long now. Since what happened will have big consequences expect prices of goods to be at least 10% higher than what they used to be. And the worst is yet to come.

At first I thought that it may have an impact on food and commodity prices. But the blockade was removed today and the ship which was blocking the canal was successfully refloated. More than 300 ships were on queue as a result of this blockade, and the cargo may have included food items. Fortunately the issue was resolved in quick time, before it could cause huge amount of damage to the global economy.
1537  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 30, 2021, 09:38:33 AM
Match resumes as now Bangladesh need 170 runs in 16 overs start is not bad at all as they are 30/1 in just 4 overs even its very tough target for them against a big team, but we will be able to have some entertaining cricket for some time.

Incredible fightback from Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Naim, but I am not sure whether Bangladesh will be able to reach the target. After 10 overs they are 94/1. Soumya Sarkar is having a strike rate of around 200 now, and he has hit 3 sixes. If he stays there for some more time, then Bangladesh will definitely fancy their chances. Mohammad Mithun to come next and he is also in terrific form.
1538  Economy / Economics / Re: Bullish: Visa moves to allow payment settlements using cryptocurrency on: March 30, 2021, 09:12:39 AM
It would have been much better if they had accepted Bitcoin instead of these stablecoins. USDC is just fiat currency in the format of cryptocurrency. Anyway, I would regard this as a small victory for us. Hopefully, Visa will be open towards accepting other cryptocurrencies as well, in addition to stablecoins. They may be concerned about the volatility, but overall it is going to be beneficial for both the sides in case they start accepting BTC or ETH.
1539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 30, 2021, 09:05:50 AM
West Indies looks to be in a comfortable position to win the test. Sri Lanka had an opportunity when they had West Indies down to 222/7, but they wasted it. The partnership between Kraigg Brathwaite and Rahkeem Cornwall has already added 65 runs and now West Indies looks comfortable enough to reach a total in excess of 350. During the last test match also, the Sri Lankan bowlers failed against West Indian lower order batsmen.
287/7 is the score, I do not think WI will reach 350 or more. It is because of Braithwaite that they were able to reach 287. I am pretty much sure he will score his 100 as he is batting on 99.

Day one has ended, the match is still open. I do not think we can come into the conclusion that SL will lose this match.

The partnership is worth 65 now, so why don't you think that adding another 63 is not possible? Rahkeem Cornwall may be batting at no.9, but he is a very talented batsman, with a few first-class and List A centuries to his name. And then they have Kemar Roach, who is not that bad with the bat (can add another 20-30 runs easily with one of these batsmen). I think West Indies will be very disappointed, in case they fail to reach a total of 350.
1540  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alt coins worth buying on: March 29, 2021, 05:57:46 PM
I don't know why so many people are recommending Ethereum. A lot of users are angry with Ethereum right now, because of the extremely high fees. I have seen bounty hunters paying as much $20 to move their tokens. And every time the developers are giving the same old excuse that ETH 2.0 is going to resolve this issue. I guess the Ethereum competitors are now in a good position and coins such as Polkadot and Cardano will be able to challenge Ethereum in the near future. If I have to chose three altcoins for investment, then my choice would be like this - Binance Coin, Polkadot & Cardano.
