1501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's gonna buy Tesla using Bitcoin? on: April 04, 2021, 12:13:15 PM
I am not sure that the strategy of Tesla and Elon Musk personally includes the sale of the cheapest cars  Grin But it is irrelevant if Tesla maintains and strengthens its current market position, then after a while, when electric cars occupy a dominant niche in the market, we can expect to produce cars at even lower prices. Because at this point in time, Tesla's products are not so cheap, and even part of the price is covered by government subsidies, which, however, are slowly beginning to be canceled, as for example in the UK and not in every country a person can afford such a purchase.

When I am spending $35,000 or $45,000 to purchase a brand new car, I am at least expecting a vehicle that I can use for 10-15 years without major issues. But with Tesla, I need to replace the battery every 5 years or so, and it is going to cost me at least $10-15K. I understand that they have developed some batteries which can last much longer. But they are not allowed, since these batteries are prone to overheating and explosions. They need to improve their battery technology.
1502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I tried to tell him just HODL bitcoin, don't make this hard. on: April 04, 2021, 12:01:21 PM
I am hearing stories such as this one very frequently. A lot of those who invest in shitcoins such as DOGE, EOS, XRP and IOTA are newbies who don't do much research on their own. They solely depend on the social media to get their information, and this is where they get all wrong. There is a lot of propaganda in the social media sites in favor of shitcoins. Inexperienced people believe all of that and end up losing their money by investing in coins such as XRP.
They can't realize what they are doing if they will never experience regrets in their life.
We give a piece of advice to them and that it depends if they will put it in their mind or not. If they lose, we are also affected, right? They will get angry because we never convince them, we never tell them the truth.

That is why I'd never give any hint to any of my friends what coin we should have to invest in because I don't want to hold any responsibility if ever they lose. If they ask me, I answer what I have but not to say you have these coins also.

Yup. I would agree. Actually a lot of information is available in forums such as this one. But going through all these threads may take a lot of time and many of the newbs don't have patience for that. A lot of users who have lost their money in scam projects have posted about their experience here in Bitcointalk. But I don't know the reason why the newbs who believe in social media propaganda never takes these threads seriously.

What an amazing match... in the end Pakistan managed to win with 0 balls remaining. The partnership between Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq provided a strong base for Pakistani chase, but then quick wickets by Anrich Nortje put them in backfoot. Temba Bavuma's first outing as the white-ball captain ends with a loss. BTW, did anyone noticed the jersey of both the teams? They looked so similar and I had difficulty in differentiating both the teams.
1504  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 02, 2021, 04:29:05 PM
This match will surely end in a draw, Srilanka will try to drag this match without losing a single wicket. West Indies bowlers need to take a wicket which I think they are struggling to do. The first test was a draw and now the second might be too. Not interested anymore now in this test.

Yeah.. looks as if it will end up in a draw. Only around 60 overs remaining now, and Sri Lanka is having all 10 wickets intact. Both Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne are batting really well and the West Indian bowlers are not able to achieve the breakthrough. However, if 2-3 wickets fell in quick time, then the situation can change drastically. Rahkeem Cornwall is getting some turn and the West Indies captain needs to bring back his strike bowlers (Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel & Jason Holder)
1505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who's gonna buy Tesla using Bitcoin? on: April 02, 2021, 02:05:26 PM
I have a lot of respect for Tesla, after they invested in Bitcoin and accepted Bitcoin as one of the payment methods for the purchase of their products. But at the same time, I am sorry to say that their vehicles are overpriced and overhyped. I can get a gasoline-run equivalent for 1/3rd or 1/4th the price of these vehicles. Also, the maintenance charges seems to be very high for Tesla, as we need to replace the battery every 5-6 years.
1506  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: April 02, 2021, 01:41:13 PM
Probably the last thing we need today is a rebellion. In times like this people should listen to scientists and medical officials, not to some streetwise smarty-pants who claim to know better. COVID-19 will be defeated, but not with the help of a rebellion, that's for sure.

I agree with Betwrong.

Anti-vaxxers have tried to sabotage all the mass-vaccination programs taken out till now in recorded history. If they had their way, then diseases such as polio, small pox, diphtheria and mumps would be killing millions of people every year. Although the COVID-19 vaccines were rushed through, the efficacy was proven during Phase 3 trials. More than 600 million doses of the vaccine have been administered till now, without any significant negative reaction. At this point, the best thing to do is to trust the vaccine.
1507  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: April 02, 2021, 01:30:52 PM
BTW, during the Germany vs North Macedonia match, the referee was extremely biased. If not for his wrong decisions, it would have been 3-0 for North Macedonia (gave an unnecessary penalty kick for Germany, and then denied one for North Macedonia on a clear handball).

I didn't realize this actually. All the news reports I read said Germany took control but Macedonia's defence was very resolute plus the awful Werner miss at point blank.

I guess the news wanted to be kind to the Germans. Good news for the neutrals!

As joker_josue pointed out, referees have been performing poorly in the qualifiers. He mentioned two matches, but there were a few others as well (penalty kick given during Spain vs Greece is an example). During the Serbia vs Portugal match, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal that was 100% clear, but the referee didn't allowed it. In the end, Portugal was forced to share points with Serbia, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. On the other hand, UEFA has claimed that complexities caused as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic was preventing it from using VAR. I fail to understand the correlation between the two.
1508  Economy / Economics / Re: Could Bitcoin Smash Socialism in Venezuela? on: April 02, 2021, 12:49:06 PM
Chavez distributed the oil money better and you can't fault him for that. Where he got it wrong is that part of the money should have been used for a long term plan that didn't rely so much on oil money. Education is a start and a good thing, but it will only give results after decades. Developing tourism might have been a good idea.

And instead of nationalizing outright foreign companies' assets, renegotiate the deals, force them to invest more in infrastructure for example.

They have a large number of islands in the Caribbean and a lengthy coastline. I am surprised that tourism is not very developed in Venezuela. One factor may be the lack of interest from the private sector. If the tourism industry is to be developed, then you need the private players and their investment. Now who is going to invest in Venezuela, when they have forcibly nationalized most of the assets (ranches, petroleum, factories.etc)?
1509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could we crowdfund a movie about Satoshi Nakamoto? on: April 02, 2021, 12:39:23 PM
I don't think that this is a good idea. That money can be better spent elsewhere. Obviously you can go for a low-budget option, but it won't generate much interest without the Hollywood stars, hype and advertisement. Look at what happened to Silk Road movie, that was released recently. It was a really good movie, but it didn't created a lot of interest at the box-office due to lack of hype and advertisement. If we want to make a movie about Satoshi, then it should be a big-budget production staring some of the well known names, such as Matt Damon, Johnny Depp, Jason Statham or Will Smith. But that is going to cost big $$$.

1511  Economy / Economics / Re: U.S. rent has increased 175% faster than household income over past 20 years on: April 02, 2021, 12:18:05 PM
Think Covid-19 disease influenced a lot on decision of many citizens to buy suburban housing by means of mortgage. Don’t think that crypto can somehow to help in building new houses and to lower prices on them. Scarce goods always inflate in price. Only oversupply of houses can help to decrease prices or, probably, the full end of covid-quarantine.

It also depends on the gasoline prices. If the gasoline prices stay low, then people can afford to purchase or rent houses that are at a considerable distance from the city center. But that is not the case when the petroleum price goes up. And the oil prices have gone up by almost 60% during the last 12 months. Even here in India, the petrol/diesel prices are at historic highs. A lot of protests are going on and the central government is facing a lot of backlash.
1512  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela Planning New 100,000-Bolivar Bills Worth Just $0.23 on: April 02, 2021, 12:08:12 PM
$.65 for the new 1,000,000 Bolivar Bill

I don't understand the point in printing banknotes that don't have any value. If the 1 million Bolivar banknote is worth just $0.65, what is the point in printing it? I guess it will cost the government more than $0.65 to print and distribute these banknotes. And going by the inflation rate, the value of this banknote may become $0.10 or $0.05 in a couple of weeks. Why can't they just use the US Dollar or Colombian Peso?
1513  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: April 01, 2021, 07:38:31 PM
Right now West Indies is leading by 288 runs. Around 36 overs of play remain in this match and I guess West Indies will add another 70-80 runs in 15-16 overs and then make the declaration. It will give 20 overs for the West Indian bowlers today and in case they can take 2-3 wickets within that period then Sri Lanka is finished. Anyway, this is the last match of the tour. Sri Lanka deserved a consolation victory.
1514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: April 01, 2021, 07:28:22 PM
From what I have said, Moin Ali will be considered as one of the key players of CSK. CSK needs a player like him to strengthen the middle order. Moin Ali will be able to take the helm of the team. And he’s a good enough spin bowler. However, if he fails to perform as expected as a batsman, then Imran Tahir will play as his replacement. But I hope Moin Ali will not disappoint us. He will play well in the IPL this time.

Obviously when CSK is spending such a huge amount on him, they will be including him in the playing XI for most (if not all) of their matches. Unfortunately, that is bad news for players such as Tahir (and some of the pace bowlers), because Moeen eats up another valuable overseas slot. But that is how franchise cricket works. When no one expects an opening, suddenly someone gets injured and a slot is made available. And the replacement player performs so good that it is impossible to drop him. Last season, it happened a few times - Lockie Ferguson, Chris Morris.etc.
1515  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 01, 2021, 07:20:57 PM
Bangladesh team had the lack of a proper leadership during this tour. There was no good combination between the players. Most of the players have performed very badly in all matches. Though Bangladesh isn't good in T20 games, but their performance should have been more better than they did. Miss field (dropping catches) was one of the notable bad performance by them.

My assumption is that the issues between BCB and some of the senior players are having a huge impact on the team morale. Latest news is that the BCB is not allowing Shakib al Hasan to participate in the IPL. I don't know whether this is true or not. But in case it is true, then it can be very demoralizing. After all, for a player of the calibre of Shakib, IPL can be the most important revenue generator. And it's not like he's ignoring the national duty. He is making himself available all the time.
1516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BNB still undervalue on: March 31, 2021, 07:29:20 PM
People moved to BNB because of high transaction fee. Also Binance burns some of BNB periodically. One day BNB will be bigger than Ethereum.
That is right most people moved to BNB due to high transaction fees, and it is the really bad side of ETH. However, l hope this problem will be solved in the near future, on the other hand, there are still a lot of people who prefer investing in ETH than in BNB. l prefer also investing in ETH, to tell the truth, both of them are my favorite coins. But ETH has always been the second currency after BTC. In my mind BNB never can be bigger than ETH, overall there is not any currency that can overtake ETH. If BNB would overtake ETH, that BNB should work hard. But l don't think that it will help BNB for overtaking ETH.

I guess the high Ether fees will remain for some time, because the developers are simply incompetent. All they can do is to do delaying tactics, by giving the excuse of ETH 2.0. The scalability issue and high fee for ETH is here to stay and I don't expect any major changes for the near future. BNB is an attractive option under such circumstances, but the BNB developers need to make sure that it stays updated with the latest technology.
1517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 31, 2021, 07:18:16 PM
Do the players get the same payment if they play or not, if so Imran Tahir is doing fine as he is a sort after spinner in any other franchise cricket and he is stuck with CSK for a long time and when ever he gets the opportunity he usually performs well if i remember correctly and Moeen Ali is another player who will be an automatic selection in any other team because of his batting exploits and his bowling ability.

I do think these players are getting paid even if they are not in the playing eleven if not they would have requested for a release long back Grin.

Yes. They get paid the full amount (as per the contract), even if they don't get selected for even a single match. But the condition is that they should be "available for selection". If someone is injured, or unavailable due to some other reason (similar to what happened to Suresh Raina in IPL 2020), then they need to forfeit the salary. So for players such as Tahir, it means that they may get money for not doing much work.  Grin
1518  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 31, 2021, 06:53:13 PM
I feel this will be a straightforward for France, England, Germany, Spain and Italy in their qualifying rounds tonight and ofcourse scoring atleast 2 goals each; what are your predictions ?

Bosnia & Herzegovina 0 - 4 France
England 2 - 1 Poland
Germany 4 - 0 North Macedonia
Lithuania 0 - 2 Italy
Spain 6 - 0 Kosovo

Maybe I'm being too optimistic...  Cool
But at least these teams must win.

Be careful with your predictions, especially the last one. Spain beating Kosovo by 6 goals? Seriously? I would be less surprised if they were in good form, but that is not the case now. Their first match ended in a draw against Greece. Even against Georgia they really struggled. They were 0-1 behind during the half-time, although they came back strongly in the second half to win the match and thereby 3 points.

BTW, we already had one surprise result today. Armenia managed to defeat Romania (3-2).
1519  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal cryptocurrency trading volume beyond expectations on: March 31, 2021, 05:45:30 PM
According to a statement from Reuters, paypal will open the possibility of paying in cryptocurrency for its US customers in millions of retail outlets, as stated by the head of the company Dan Shulman in 29 million retail outlets "For the first time, users have the opportunity to pay directly with cryptocurrency, similar to how it is done with credit and debit cards inside a PayPal wallet"
https://www.reuters.com/article/crypto-currency-paypal/exclusive-paypal-launches-crypto-checkout-service-idUSL1N2LR0OD

But what about the tax implications? From what I have heard, the IRS needs American citizens to mention every cryptocurrency transaction in the income tax return, irrespective of the size. So if someone makes a few dozen purchases with PayPal BTC, doesn't he need to provide the details of all these transactions in his return? It is going to be extremely tedious. Maybe PayPal will do something to take care of this issue. They can provide an annual statement to the users, which can be used to file returns.
1520  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: March 31, 2021, 05:12:12 PM
I had recently read that there is discussion about importing and even producing the Russian Sputnik V, in Europe. If this actually happens, it would tackle any possible supply shortages, while having a high efficacy rate.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/31/merkel-macron-and-putin-sputnik-v-vaccine-eu

Sputnik V is embroiled in a lot of political controversy. Even here in India the government has so far refused to issue EUA for Sputnik V. They don't have any issues with the efficacy of the vaccine, but due to tensions with Russia, they don't want to approve it. When the situation is like this in India, you can imagine the case with the European Union. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has refused to permit Sputnik V in Europe, once again purely due to political reasons. Christa Wirthumer-Hoche of EMA even threatened individual states against using the vaccine.
