Been seeing lots of invalid blocks lately, more than usual...anything to be worried about?

One pool server had troubles with disk I/O during blockchain processing, it is fixed already. I also added new pool server and upgrade older one to better HW. Today I'll upgrade the rest of server infrastructure.

Downloaded it and got it working. Perfect! Now I can get nervous about the market's status by the minute!  Cheesy (Got tabs for 1 day, 60 min and 1 min)

You can even configure SierraChart to make a sound when price crash under 1$ :-)

slush one of my workers finally found a block , what does that mean exactly? that the total amount of reward finally equaled 50 ?

No, your miner was just lucky enough to find block with difficulty > target. Everytime pool find a block, somebody see +1 on his profile, so that is pretty common Wink. I'm showing this just for curiosity, that has no effect to mining or calculating rewards.
2504  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 20, 2011, 12:09:56 AM
With current hashrate and difficulty we should have ~24 blocks per day and we 18 blocks found so far.

Finally found 23 blocks, not as bad as it originally looked Smiley.
2505  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 19, 2011, 10:26:13 PM
is it just me or is it a very slow day today in slushy land?

Yes, today is not so lucky as previous days. With current hashrate and difficulty we should have ~24 blocks per day and we 18 blocks found so far.

Click "Chart" on the menu bar, and then select "Intraday Bar Periods" and pick something like 1 hour.

The click "Chart" again and select "Chart Settings", go to the "Graph Type" box and select "Candlestick" it will change what you are seeing to something that is probably a lot more familiar, and certainly more pleasant to look at.

Or you can type something like "60<Enter>" (without quotes) to fast dial of 60min timeframe Smiley.

Hi

Can anyone help explain what these chart movements mean:

It's because of big market spread: When somebody do big sell order and push price down and then somebody decide to buy a coin, there will be such step in price as you posted on image - current price after sell is low, but nearer ask price is on the top of the spread.
2508  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 19, 2011, 10:03:05 AM
Small mhash - 72. But tell me why you asking this question? i was mining 2.5 hours, and in theory i must have at least 0.000000000000001 BTC. But as you can see from stat i get "4587   2011-05-19 02:22:38   4:24:56   1205542   0.00000000   125021     55 confirmations left"|. So tell me, is it fair and normal for mining?

Reward is calculated to 8 decimal places.

I'm asking because hashrate and steady payout are tightly coupled. With 72mhash over 2 hours you're far away from 1000 shares, which are considered to be minimum to have average payout as described here.
2509  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 19, 2011, 09:49:43 AM
About 4 or 5 times 'scores' was reseted,

Score is recalculated every hour, not resetted.

Btw, how many Mhash/s do you have?
2510  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 19, 2011, 07:09:22 AM
ugh.... 3.5 hours, and no blocks  Undecided

Yes, difficulty is rising, hashrate is the same. Actually this block was 4.5x<difficulty>, so nothing impossible. Yesterday was pretty good, so it must average sometimes Smiley.
2511  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 18, 2011, 10:08:15 PM
I'm just trying to find why pool generates such unusual number of invalid blocks today.

Edit: I'm going to upgrade infrastructure, you may obtain some rpc errors in following minutes.
2512  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox SierraChart bridge - Realtime Bitcoin charts on: May 18, 2011, 06:30:40 PM
can u write a depth chart plugin? Smiley

Sierrachart is proprietary software and I didn't find any documentation how to write real data feeds (or enable internal DOM + trading features). Current mtgox plugin is 'hack' mis-using sierrachart's realtime file update, but I have no idea how to push market depth into application.

If you know another charting software with open API (or even opensource!), I can modify plugin to work with it. But I'm SierraChart customer for long time, so I wrote plugin primary for it.

Slush, could you add a column to your statistics table?

I would like to see something like BTC / Hour or minute or day

Daily earnings are already implemented, see Graphs page.

Hourly and minute earnings are not implemented, but - who cares? Mining is probabilistic process, minute or hour mean nothing. Personally I even don't care about my daily earnings, only 7day average (blue line on graphs), which has some weight.

I'm sometimes surprised when people are saying 'pool that and that is paying less than pool this, I tested it for two hours!'. Looks they have no idea how it works and displaying them 'you earned 0.0001 btc in last hour' will make it even worse.
2514  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 18, 2011, 09:02:39 AM
No, all GPU miners.

Which miner? Did restart helped? I found that phoenix is sometimes freezing when it has connection troubles (like service restart tonight).
2515  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (280Ghash/s) on: May 17, 2011, 11:50:13 PM
502 Bad Gateway

Yes, just a database restart. Everything is working now.
2516  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: You are threatening Bitcoin’s security on: May 17, 2011, 06:05:32 PM
but you seem to have a lot of invalid blocks every now and then. 21 in the last 1000 blocks right now means 2.1% fewer bitcoins for me.

Majority of those invalid blocks were caused by outage, so we're still talking about this one issue before two weeks.
2517  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: You are threatening Bitcoin’s security on: May 17, 2011, 05:18:24 PM
Eligius pays out instantly into your wallet via a generation transaction.

Well, you cannot spend those coins before at least 100 confirmations, so it is basically the same as many other pools. Deepbit isn't "instant" too, it takes one hour to show block on the account...
2518  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: You are threatening Bitcoin’s security on: May 17, 2011, 04:45:03 PM
Slush has gone down on me at least two or three times since I started mining in March.

No, I had only one serious downtime on mining interface, others were service restarts, which is normal on all pools. Oh, I was also DoSed twice, but it is long time ago and it wasn't total outage, pool was just slower for few hours.

Yes, I had troubles with website, but it didn't affect mining.
2519  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (180Ghash/s) on: May 17, 2011, 12:23:16 PM
There are many missing features. Like removing that stupid wait for 100-120 blocks for the confirmed reward or lowering it down.

Well, the wait is not so stupid, it is forced by bitcoin network. I need to invest around 1000-2000 BTC to enable payouts sonner than pool receive bitcoins from the network. If you lend me those 2000 BTC for 0% interest , I can enable almost-instant payouts Smiley.

I really don't understand the buzz about instant payout button, but many people are asking for that, so I'll implement it, too.
2520  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (180Ghash/s) on: May 17, 2011, 09:54:08 AM
I've joined the pool. Using guiminer and have connected to slush's pool. It's however not mining. It keeps saying "connecting..." and doesn't go further. Any tips, or other programs I can try out? I have created an account on http://mining.bitcoin.cz
Thanks in advance.
