In summary, for people who previously had many positives and no negatives: - The first negative rating defines a border between pre-controversy and post-controversy. - Don't move this border unless you have a really good reason. If you must add more info, leave another negative or neutral rating. - If you agree with the border-negative, leave a negative rating. - If you disagree with the border-negative, leave a positive rating responding to the negative, even if you already have a positive rating for that person. Don't delete your old rating. You should also consider excluding the inaccurate-rater from your trust list.
A couple of questions: 1) what if the person who left the first negative rating gets removed from DefaultTrust, so that for most people their rating is no longer defining a border, but still is for some? 2) what if the negative trust defining the border gets removed by an administrator (because their account is suspected of having been hacked, for example); the border no longer exists, so am I expected to remove the positive rating I left responding to the negative (bolded, above)? Or should I leave it in place?

Thank you! Got it now.
Edit: After placing the bootstrap.dat into clam folder, the progress of synchronization remains slow. Am i doing something wrong? Usually the way is to place the bootstrap.dat into user/appdata/roaming/clam (windows) and to restart the wallet, right?. I also tried to delete all userdata. Progress still slow.
Any idea?
I answered a similar question a few days ago: I cannot figure out how to get the Bootstap.dat file I downloaded to be seen by Clamclient. I placed it in the same file folder as Wallet.dat...But the client didnt react to it
First off, you need to stop and restart the client before it will notice the bootstrap.dat file. Secondly, take a look at this screenshot. See the "importing blocks" in the lower left corner? That means the client is processing the bootstrap.dat file. Do you see that? Thirdly, you wrote "Bootstrap.dat". The filename should be all lowercase. I don't know if that actually matters in all operating systems, but it does in Linux. If it isn't being found, try renaming it to be all lowercase then restarting the client. Finally, I just updated the bootstrap.dat file. See this post for the link. If you use the torrent link you should be able to update your existing bootstrap.dat file to the latest version without having to redownload the whole thing. I hope that helps.

It's not explained how exactly the "available" amount is calculated
What it does say is: Once your withdrawal request is received Stakeminers will calculate the available BTC in excess or earnings and advise you of your BTC payout for that month. I suspect that's a typo for "in excess *of* earnings", but it's still not clear what that means. Seems to me like further obfuscation for its own sake. He should take a look at how Just-Dice.com works - it is essentially a staking pool, operated in a transparent manner. At any point in time everyone can see exactly what their balance is, and can withdraw it without penalty. There's no need to penalise withdrawals. People will leave their coins on the site if they see they are performing well. The first step towards allowing that is to offer transparency wherever possible. Otherwise all investors have is vague statements like "earnings are up again this week".

So that's why my investment went down a little ;P Congrats Peas

I dont think this is him bringing the price down, only a total moron who still holds coins would bring the price down 30% over a few days. This is someone dumping and getting out from clam, maybe your lottery winner. Fun thing is that poloniex sale side does not decrease with all these dumps.
Unfortunately also sale side is decreasing ![Undecided](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/undecided.gif) What lottery? Please enlight me about this big dump ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I'm not sure what "lottery". Someone bet 0.15 CLAMs on Just-Dice yesterday and won almost 15000 CLAMs - so maybe that's what he's referring to. But I bought 12000 of his 15000 from him and still have them, so if he did dump his winnings it wouldn't have been more than 3000. But I also posted a chart of the money supply which mentioned the staking lottery that CLAM used to run, so maybe that's what he's taking about. That ended almost a year ago though, so probably not.

Then peaseniz won a big bet when his usual 4x martingale sequence went long: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FjPIcScL.png&t=663&c=XK8Q9Je2mWAziQ) And again! Apparently this time it was a mistake - he thought he was playing at 4x, but was accidentally playing at 40x! ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F0xVlNha.png&t=663&c=PVbVUzWed2haIg)

-snip- Why should this apply differently for different people? If someone is promoting an obvious ponzi scam, they should get marked negative for that.
My opinion is that one shouldn't be marked -ve right away if in case they are promoting an obvious ponzi scam. They might not know what they are promoting though, so giving them -ve straight would be too rude and too judgmental. The case would be different if the user in question would promote the thread annoyingly and suspiciously, that's when they should receive -ve trust. There is no point leaving negative feedback only after the Ponzi has run off with the money. The time for warnings is before they run off, when the warning can actually do some good.

Is it sensible to require JM makers to do some proof-of-work to disincentivize the destruction of the market by the volunteers?
No, I don't think so. If there is more supply than demand, the price drops. That's normal, healthy, and to be expected. You seem to be suggesting manipulating the market to force the prices to be higher than the market supports on its own. If we're currently short of "takers" then low prices is what we need to attract more of them, wouldn't you agree?

Hey Dooglus.
Would you be interested in a french translation of the FAQ ?
I could do it for free (or a free tip of your choice). Just let me know and I can do it in a few days.
Hi. I don't think I've ever seen anyone speaking French in the Just-Dice chat tab, so I don't think there would be much call for a French translation of the FAQ. If you do want to do the translation, I'll upload it and link to it for sure.

Lucky you, I lost 10 CLAMS. Maybe I should invest some more.
After dental won, there was some discussion about how the "offsite investment" works. When setting your /offsite amount, the highest you can set it to is 99 times your current onsite amount, such that your total is 100 times your onsite amount. If the site then loses big enough that your total becomes 200 times your onsite amount, or more, then your offsite amount is automatically set to zero, since you are no longer able to risk a maximum-profit win. One investor was surprised to hear about this "forced /offsite 0" rule, and said he would be very unhappy if it ever happened. And so I thought I should mention it here. It is described in the site's FAQ tab, in an example: Suppose you have 1000 coins. You could send them to your deposit address and invest them all. You would now be entrusting your whole 1000 coins to Just-Dice, with the associated risks. Alternatively, you could deposit just 100 of them, invest them, and then tell the site "I have 900 more coins that I want to invest". You keep those coins safe in your own wallet, but they are counted as part of the Just-Dice bankroll. Your share of the bankroll and your share of the site's profits and losses is the same as if you had invested your whole 1000 coins. If the site should have a run of bad luck such that your 100 coins shrinks and you can no longer afford to sustain a single maximum profit loss, your 900 "offsite" coins will be forgotten about. Your investment will then be whatever remains of your initial 100 coin deposit. In that way you can never get into debt with the site.
In that example, where you start off with 100 CLAMs onsite and 900 offsite, your 100 CLAM onsite investment would need to shrink to 900/199 = 4.53 CLAM before the forced divest happened. If you were using the maximum offsite amount, starting with 10 CLAMs onsite and 990 offsite, then your 10 CLAM investment would only need to shrink to 990/199 = 4.97 CLAM for you to have your offsite amount forced to 0.

Doess clam have a finite supply?
Yes and no. Once all the claims are distributed, as long as you stake, your share of the ledger is fixed (non-dilutive). Alternately you could consider your share of the total supply (including all potential claims). Again non-dilutive. But staking creates new coins so the supply is not finite Great answer. The supply including 'undug' CLAMs increases by 1 CLAM per minute forever, but if you stake your share of that supply increases as most of the supply isn't staking (or even claimed).
|
|
|
I have a few question about the total supply of Clams. Now is there 15 million coins already waiting to be claimed and will that be added on top of the 500,000 coins to be mined per year? How much will the available supply of Clams go up per year?
Right now, if I run "clamd getinfo" it tells me: "moneysupply" : 15332791.13048927, "digsupply" : 441211.87080348, "stakesupply" : 558389.72641731, "activesupply" : 999601.59722079, The initial distribution sent 4.60545574 CLAM to each of 3,208,032 addresses, making an initial total distribution of: >>> 4.60545574 * 3208032 14774449.38850368 ie. 14.8 million, of which only 441k have so far been dug up. Since then, 558389.72641731 CLAM was created by staking, making a total money supply of: >>> 14774449.38850368 + 558389.72641731 15332839.11492099 That's 48 CLAMs higher than the reported money supply: >>> 15332839.11492099 - 15332791.13048927 47.98443172 I don't quite understand why - but maybe it's related to how the developers burned staking rewards which were generated when getting the blockchain started. Anyway, in summary, there are over 14 million CLAMs still waiting to be dug up. It's theoretically possible (although very unlikely) that the vast majority of them could all be dug up today and enter the active supply. I just want to make sure if I buy clams the Available supply wont go up by millions in 1 year
It depends what you mean by the "available supply". The total money supply, currently a little over 15 million, will go up by 1 CLAM each time a block is found, or about 525k per year. The "active" money supply, currently just under 1 million, and defined as the "dig supply" plus the "stake supply" goes up by 4.6 CLAMs every time one of the initial distribution outputs is moved for the first time, and that is quite unpredictable. Here's a chart showing the 'digsupply' and 'stakesupply' since launch, with annotations: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FZxfINip.png&t=663&c=olrRB48Iuv2hjw) I may have some of the details wrong, and would appreciate feedback from anyone who remembers better.

I've gambled not more than 0.2BTC, but wagered i don't know.
What is the difference between 'gambled' and 'wagered'? The definitions google gives me: * gamble: verb. play games of chance for money; bet * wager: verb. more formal term for bet

The game is very difficult to play ![Sad](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/sad.gif) i never finished first in the game it would be better if developers make a game little easy please ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Would you like them to make it easier for just you, or for everyone? If they make it easier for everyone it seems reasonable to assume that you still won't be the best player and so still won't win.

It is the block in which the dug CLAM was created. They are being dug up in order of that number. That makes it impossible that it is a market trend, and almost certain that it is a single person, or at least a very coordinated team of people.

Hate to break your troll fight here; but does anyone have an idea on the reason why the price dropped like 19% in 48 hours or so ? Any known event that caused this, or just p&d action as usual ?!
I think a change of subject is a good idea. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) The most recent drop (within the last hour) is probably a result of someone winning a record high ~15k CLAMs on Just-Dice and dumping ~3k on the market. The previous drop (over the last few days) is probably the mystery digger, who seems to have stepped up the digging again: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FES5ZRDH.png&t=663&c=0Xi56er8oLqDoA)
