2541  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Exchangers and hackers Stealing on: October 25, 2020, 10:05:18 PM
Safu is only a PR stunt. It will work until it finally does not. What I mean by that is they are trying to pose as a very safe exchange that has a fund from which they will cover all losses to hacks and you, the client, can stop worrying. They are not like those other exchanges...
The problem is that in case of a bigh hack where their safu fund is unable to cover the loss you're going to be left standing naked in the middle of a busy street in January. Yes, that's how it's going to feel.

Makes you wonder if this guy even reads any of the previous posts before replying.
You come to a thread where last post was in May, 6 months ago, ignore the fact that it's CFNP, ignore the fact there's a YOLO thread in gambling, where you can ask about withdrawals and you casually post that you regret that you're unable to join. I feel your pain, it must be hard being a bit slow in this world.
2543  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why does the cosmos exist at all? on: October 25, 2020, 09:35:34 PM
But wouldn't this be achieved by gravity? To slowly turn around to reach your starting point you would have to be affected by a pull that would over the course of millions of km make you turn by a degree or so, so that in the long run you wouldn't really be travelling a straight but a curved line. For you it would be straight, but if someone had the ability to watch you from a distance they'd see you travel through and around at the same time.
Yes space is expanding and we can observe this in a smaller scale by watching our solar system. We are slowly moving away from the Sun and our Moon is moving away from us.
2544  Economy / Speculation / Re: What will happen next if the resistance breaks? on: October 25, 2020, 09:22:27 PM
So the new question is 13k the next resistance zone?

I for one would like to see price float at 12800-13400 for a month or more basically ignore the USA election and be on its own thing. Independent so to speak

In the summer of 2019 we surged to nearly 15k

And then went down below 10k again. Reason? Chinese have pulled a mighty scam that accepted Bitcoin. The point is, we should clearly understand the reasons for the current rally – if it can be called rally in the first place. I think the present uptrend is thanks to the upcoming US presidential elections. After we are past them, it may be time for a strong and powerful correction. But there can be other factors at play here, of course

Firstly, this is a rally, and I'm not even focusing on what happened last week. We are in a steady uptrend with corrections after each step (very healthy because the price confirms every support by going down, touching it and rallying again). In April we were at 6k, 9k in June, 1.5k in September, 13k in October (which I believe will end with a healthy correction to 11k).
Secondly, I don't agree that the cause of this is the election. US presidents haven't done anything good for Bitcoin and it doesn't look like whoever wins will change it. It's a combination of  some big purchases by institutions, the recent PayPal news and the pandemic that makes people scared of a possible economic shutdown.
2545  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin will replace oil and Gold on: October 25, 2020, 07:57:53 PM
Many car companies are focusing on the alternative power source of oil. We already have tesla. So oil will lose its value if the world finds a cheaper energy source besides oil.

Tesla cars are so overpriced and selling so little compared to other car companies that they aren't going to influence the value of oil in the near future. When electric cars all over the world start touching at least 10% of global sales we'll talk about dropping oil prices due to other energy sources becoming popular. You might not be aware but in 2019 all electric cars combined accounted for 2.6% of car sales for the year. Only 1% of all cars around the world are electric. It will take at least 10 years before they really start affecting the prices if these rates don't change.
2546  Economy / Economics / Re: rich people super rich are taking loans now why? what it means ? on: October 25, 2020, 07:48:12 PM
Because in our situation what are we facing right now that's why rich people taking loans because I think their company is now bankrupt cause of the pandemic many company are closing and many people loss their job that's the main reason why rich are taking loans

This is not the only reason. Sure, if you own a restaurant or a cinema that got shut down by the government you have to get money from somewhere, so you take a loan, but if we're talking about very rich people, most of them have the resources to pay the bills for a few months. Taking a loan sometimes mean betting on the crisis to come. In a crisis the value of fiat money will drop and you can also expect interest rates to be lower, while physical goods will not go down in value.
2547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Darkside Hackers donating Bitcoins on: October 25, 2020, 12:07:22 PM
I do not believe that these charities can return the bitcoin that this Robin Hood sent.
If the intention of the group of hackers was to extort companies that earn a lot of money and do not share some of their profits with the charities. This is not the best way to act. I also disagree with any illicit activity. Why claim authorship of donations? Another unsuccessful hacker activity, I hope the funds reach those most in need.

If they take donations they must have a wallet access or do it directly through a processor that exchanges it and sends them the money. In first case they can return it without problems, in the second they'd have to buy bitcoin first, which would generate losses for them now that the price went up a lot.
The hackers probably hope that the charities don't hold coins but immediately sell them for fiat and the stolen coins will get mixed with "clean" coins. It's their way of saying "we're still here" to the world.
2548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why does the cosmos exist at all? on: October 25, 2020, 11:57:21 AM
Why does it exist is one of those existential questions philosophers like to dwell upon. Why do we exist? Why do we have 2 hands instead of 4? Why do we live less than 100 years? Were we made by a godlike being, or maybe another, more advanced race... We could go on and on.
What interests me more is how big space really is. Is it possible to move through it from one end to the other? We know that even if it is spherical there has to be an outer edge. Would it be possible to warp it to travel through to te other part in an instant?

"You can have fiat but if it is not being tradable for goods/services then your fiat has no value at all."

I like this response, but I'd also like to add that it has remained tradable for 10 years so what's the problem here? It's like OP was saying that if apples were poisonous they'd have no valye because nobody would want to buy them. Bitcoin was made to be tradeable so if it wasn't it would not be the same asset. It would most likely cease to exist or at least lose so much value that mowt people would no longer want to own it.
2550  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: buy low sell high? (I'm a noob) on: October 25, 2020, 11:27:58 AM
I'll tell you what this thread remind me of. It's like those threads in gambling discussion where people ask if it's easy to make money gambling because they're baginers and would like to wager a bit. If you're a beginner your chances of buying low and selling high on the market are comparable to your chances of betting and wining. It's the same kind of gamble because it's not you who is in control but other traders.
2551  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trezor saved my after robbery on: October 25, 2020, 11:13:01 AM
You're lucky the theft have no knowledge about Bitcoin/Bitcoin hardware and think it's cheap electronic device, some theft would steal anything they could steal or think all electronic device (even though it's small) has to be valuable.

But even if he did steal it, most likely the theft cannot steal your Bitcoin and you still have access to your Bitcoin (assuming you have backup).

If he kept his walet under the bed there's a pretty big chance he had no backups at all.
Unfortunately we can't protect ourselves from every possible scenario. If the theieves know you're abroad they'll take their time in your house and look for hidden money and valuables.
I know a case in my area where the owner lived alone and died and the thieves knew nobody was going to come to check the house right away, so they stole everything including faucets, built in electric devices like heaters, chandeliere, everything that could be unscrewed and had some value.
2552  Economy / Economics / Re: Crisis will be new normal but its not bad on: October 24, 2020, 06:37:10 PM
They are doing it themselves (the governments) and blaming it all on the "pandemic". It's their own stupidity that is causing this. I'm currently observing the morons running like headless chickens, not knowing what to do. In Spring they shut down schools because there were like 100 cases a day. Now they had 500 cases a day and they did not do it. Then they thought why don't we close all cinemas, gyms, stadiums, because people might be getting sick there, but let's keep schools and churches open. When the number of cases was growing they closed schools and restaurants but again left churches open and it's the old people who go there, get sick and die. Not people who eat meals at restaurants because you can't eat the virus and get sick but you can get it when someone sneezes in your face in a crowded church. As long as we allow morons to tell us what to do, the situation will keep getting worse for the economy.
2553  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Jamie Dimon's ( "Bitcon is a scam") Bank -JP Morgan Chase- Fined 1 Billion on: October 24, 2020, 06:18:10 PM
A lot is going on in the space. Peter Schiff accused of banking criminals, JPMorgan fined for manipulation, John McAfee arrested... Clearly all the Bitcoin haters are getting hit at the same time. Coincidence? Maybe, but a very convenient one. Then PayPal goes 180 on Bitcoin and JPMorgan does the same:

If BTC goes to the moon before the end of the year you can start making conspiracy theories.
2554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it? on: October 24, 2020, 06:09:42 PM
No, I won't.
First of all it's a centralized service and I don't like PayPal for their previous bashing of BTC.
I also won't do it because I don't want to show support for their business and I'm afraid that they will actually use my money to buy BTC for themselves and then ban me for whatever reason and claim my coins. I've read stories about people banned and blocked by PayPal so maybe I would buy if they were the only option out there, but they're not.
2555  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thinking Bitcoin is Scam on: October 24, 2020, 05:35:01 PM
Let me add some logic to this thread. If there's a scam there has to be a scammer, right? Who would the scammer be in case of Bitcoin? Satoshi?
When you give a statement try to support it. You said most people think it's a scam? Any way to prove that? I don't know a single person who think it's a scam. I know people who think it might be unstable and crash to 0, but nobody who thinks it's a scam.
Also, PayPal is only a company. It doesn't legitimize Bitcoin.
2556  Economy / Economics / Re: The Real Situation :( on: October 24, 2020, 05:20:44 PM
And I thought OP's post was going to lead somewhere when it begun with the problems the people are facing in these difficult times, but it had to lead to a conclusion about some monotheistic religion.
2557  Economy / Economics / Re: PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network on: October 24, 2020, 05:04:56 PM
This PayPal news is yet another attempt to leverage fractional reserve applied to Bitcoin. I will be eagerly waiting the day that all the people that will store bitcoin via PayPal will want to cash out when the price will skyrocket. That will be the day of PayPal collapse.
I leave them to that but I am sorry for new users that are about to be fooled if things remain like this.

I've never trusted PayPal and thought their business model will not survive with the fees they're charging. They somehow became popular and rode on that popularity for a time, but the fees and time it took for them to register money on the account was really bad compared to Bitcoin that allows you to exchange instantly instead of waiting for your money to appear on your centralized paypal account and then be moved to your bank.
They were trying to undermine Bitcoin's position first by attacking it and then trying to push Libra. Now they're opening payments, but it really looks like they're trying to accumulate coins this way. You won't know what they're doing with your coins as long as they're sole holders of your keys.

From June 2014 through December 2017, Helix conducted over 1,225,000 transactions for its customers and was associated with virtual currency wallet addresses that sent or received over $311 million dollars.

How are they even able to measure that in USD? Between 2014 and 2017 the price of Bitcoin was jumping between as low as $100 and $20000 so it was 311 million when? In 2017? If so it was only 100 million in 2020... Also, if he was mixing cryptocurrency without even touching USD how can they call it money transmitting? Is RPG gold also money? It's classic abuse of power on their side if you ask me.
2559  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-10-16] Institutions can cause Bitcoin shortages in the market on: October 18, 2020, 09:50:24 PM
Bitcoins are not consumed. There will never be a "bitcoin shortage".

You're on point. There can only be a temporary drop of supply. Whatever we call it, it can indeed cause the price to surge and form a bubble. I wouldn't mind a quick 50k USD run up Roll Eyes
2560  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-10-15] 10% of all bitcoins are concentrated on five exchanges on: October 18, 2020, 09:39:39 PM
Only 10%? I'm surprised it is that low. I would expect it to be more like 50%.

There are many speculations as to how much of the total supply is lost. If that 10% of all bitcoin is taken out of the mined amount and we subtracted the lost coins, that 10% could double. If we added the mentioned above Bitmex to the mix the number would become even higher. Many people say that centralized exchanges are the weakness of Bitcoin and I tend to agree.
