25541  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Airdrop and free coins on: April 05, 2017, 06:59:42 AM
BTC to bytes: 1 BTC of proven balance gives you 62.5 MB (0.0625 GB)
My first time here Cheesy Do I get this correct: 1 GBYTE is currently worth $70.70, so owning one Bitcoin gives you $4.42?
So someone who owns thousands of Bitcoins can cash in quite big?

Yeah that is the downside of the distribution of some airdrop in my opinion.  Only the rich people can become richer especially those giveaway that is based on the BTC holdings in their wallet.
I saw indeed that 1 Bitcoin address alone gets 8% of the airdrops.
Looking further into this, I don't think the "value" says anything: it's 24h volume is very small, and only one very unknown Polish exchange offers trades. It doesn't seem to work properly either.

That being said: some airdrops in the past have been very profitable for people joining them. Get coins, keep them, wait, and if the altcoin gets pumped very high, you can cash out! That brings me to the next question: how to keep those wallets? I'm now using VirtualBox for ByteBall, I don't want to run unknown software on my system. If I add 10 more like this, these 10 VirtualBoxes with almost worthless altcoins eat up more space than the entire Bitcoin blockchain. My laptop doesn't even have that much space left.
What is a good way to keep the wallets without any risk of compromising my system? It wouldn't hurt to join some airdrops just to look back at the wallet a few years later.

25546  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fires of high voltage batteris in HEV and EVs. on: April 03, 2017, 05:06:31 PM
Where are similar fires from crash tests?
Crash tests are only carried out with speeds that can be survived. If you drive into a tree at high speed, it doesn't matter which car you use, you can't survive it.
High speed crashes are more of a Mythbuster thing to test.
25547  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fires of high voltage batteris in HEV and EVs. on: April 03, 2017, 04:04:43 PM
starting fire in an electric car

I'm sure, that people have seen not much enough electric vehicles in flames.
That's not what I asked for. Show me a fire that is just starting: does it look like something that gives you enough time to get out of the way?
I have seen videos of burning laptops, when it starts smoking, you start walking away. So you're safe.
25548  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fires of high voltage batteris in HEV and EVs. on: April 03, 2017, 01:43:52 PM
Why you are not worried about?
I don't like to worry about irrational fears.
You're Russian, right? 27000 people died in traffic last year in Russia. I doubt electric car fires caused any fatalities (other than traffic-related).

Unfortunately I can't find any videos of a starting fire in an electric car (people only start filming when it's big already), but I can imagine the fire starts slowly, giving you time to get out of the car. Unless you're stuck after an accident, but in that case burning gasoline isn't going to save you either.
25549  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fires of high voltage batteris in HEV and EVs. on: April 03, 2017, 01:02:46 PM
Footage of burning Electric Cars.
Impressive pictures. Allow me to show you a burning gasoline tanker truck:

My point is:
Quote
Are You ready to drive and charge at Home some Electric Car?
Electric cars have different issues than fossil fuel cars. Showing some pictures of burning cars without the proper statistics has nothing to do with the question you frame here.

Lithium is a fossil
Wait, what?! Is this your translation or are you just making things up?

Here is about the explosive nature of Li Ion batteries.
This describes it nicely. Lithium batteries need active protection to prevent them from damaging themselves. When they're damaged/overcharged/undercharged/overheated, they become unstable.
Don't forget high-power-batteries are still relatively new, development is still ongoing, and road-testing is just part of this development.

My first thought: He is the one who should get ready! Bitcoiners aren't postponing, he is.

Second thought: the video looks nice. But I doubt it will work: who's gonna pay for content anyway? Millions of people share all kinds of files for free.
I only see two different markets: porn or warez. If it's warez, it will have fake files too, just like fake torrents are being uploaded. If it's porn, it can be the illegal kind. In both cases, his servers will be a target for the authorities again.

25552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Dogecoin have a future? on: April 02, 2017, 09:00:23 PM
I was thinking that dogecoin was dead and nobody is using it but when I checked the stats of dogecoin then it seems that it is being used pretty good from people, trading volume on poloniex is 900BTC+

While writing this post the trading volume in the last 24h has been increased for 200BTC+ which I think is a good recover for the DOGE which I though it became deadcoin.
The trading volume usually goes up during a pump/hype. https://coinmarketcap.com/ shows $2,307,360   Volume (24h), but I can't see how that compares to for example a month ago.

I've noticed many altcoins "suddenly" go up a lot, I'm not sure why.
Doge has a history of going up once in a while, and crashing again later. In my previous post in this thread (a few weeks ago) I mentioned Dogecoin is quite stable if you measure it in dollars. Since then, it more than doubled in value, proving me wrong.
25553  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Smart Contracts - new role for lawyers? on: April 02, 2017, 05:07:37 PM
Take a look at the DAO, eg. At least $50 million USD worth of cryptocurrency was "stolen." There are no programmers making enough to take on that kind of risk.
Apparently there are people entrusting those programmers with a couple hundred million USD. The DAO showed smart contracts won't work, as people don't understand them. It also showed Ethereum can't be trusted to be "code is law" when the founder's money is at stake.
You got the love the irony that the one person who understood the contract is called "The Attacker".

I cannot ever see trusting code as law, because there can always be unintended consequences
The obvious solution would be to only use very simple smart contracts. Say: "if address A holds more than X amount on May 1, 2017, send it to address B. If else, send to address C".

The thing with lawyers is that most people still don't understand the contract they sign. Take something simple: do you understand the details of your mortgate agreement? Your car finance? Or just your local laws? Most people only know the basics, not the details. That means you either have to trust a lawyer or a programmer to do the right thing. Adding legal complications to a smart contract makes it just a classic "dumb" contract again.

So far I haven't seen any real applications of smart contracts. Many theoretical possibilities have been mentioned, like a car rental company, but nothing real. I doubt it will happen, for the above reasons.
25554  Economy / Economics / Re: Gibraltar War on: April 02, 2017, 04:13:41 PM
The UK wouldn't have to go to war, if Spain wouldn't lay a claim on Gibraltar.

War is probably the quickest way to get out of EU :O I'm pretty sure that won't happen though, it's just some tough language to show power. Or an April fools joke.

25560  Economy / Gambling / Re: chopcoin.io - The new interactive Bitcoin game! on: March 31, 2017, 01:49:31 PM
I haven't been here for ages, and miss you all. Have there been any major changes to gameplay, anti-cheating and development in general since 6 months+?
I still fear your name Propagandalf!

I haven't played Chopcoin much anymore, unfortunately. My agar-addiction moved to bubble.am. To get back on topic: recently bubble.am introduced a no-team-setting: if you feed mass into eachother, you both get smaller. Unfortunately, it's not enough to stop teaming: you can still help team members by shooting virusses, and if you feed your small bubbles into an opponent so that you can split up and eat him, that is considered teaming too, so the no-teaming-setting interferes with normal game play.
