I heard Electrum is a good Bitcoin Client, Check it out if you want.

Yup, Electrum is pretty good.
It is easy to use and there is no need to store all the block data.
2562  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie here! on: January 26, 2014, 08:44:54 AM
Finally found out this place for altcoin discussion. This is awesome!  Smiley

2563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have 0.49BTC What can i trade it for?! on: January 26, 2014, 08:43:26 AM
Wooo got some litecoins now Smiley

Good Luck OP.

Just a kindly reminder, be extra careful before investing into other altcoins (other than litecoin), as the price movement maybe mainly driven by pump and dump, and the price can go up / down 50+% a day.
2564  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk.org = Bitcoin version of Alibaba on: January 26, 2014, 08:34:17 AM
I don't think you can truly ban a scammer. They'll just come back under a new account and/or connection. A ban or being caught out isn't going to stop them.

Agree.
And please, beware of those "too good to be true" deals, and use escrows if possible.
2565  Other / Meta / Re: New rules for newbies hasn't removed spam.. on: January 26, 2014, 08:30:25 AM
The amount of shill accounts I've seen asking for donations today in Alternate cryptocurrencies for one altcoin alone has been amazing.

For all those giveaway (bitcoin / altcoins / gambling credits / whatever), the organizers should really set a minimum activity requirement (say, 29 activity / at least 4 weeks old account) .

It would not solve the problem, but it will reduce the problem significantly IMHO.
2566  Other / Meta / Re: help from board admin on tracking down a thief on: January 26, 2014, 08:28:49 AM
Maybe you could send a PM to theymos, but I also doubt theymos would reveal the IP that easily.
2567  Other / Meta / Re: Why my activity doesn't increase? on: January 26, 2014, 08:22:59 AM
And now OP has 56 activity. Smiley

How many 2 weeks were you active on? (posted at least ones) and not just registered from.

2568  Other / Meta / Re: Way to many errors in this forum on: January 26, 2014, 08:17:59 AM
1.  When I first joined I could not post anywhere and wasted an hour figuring out that that was the forum design and that I had to go to some NEWBIE section.  Should have been advised at the start.
2.  Often I get an error when I post where all my writing is erased and nothing posts.  It says too many posts but I did not post recently.
3.  When I search it says error you must wait 90 seconds.
All this is totally idiot.  No one should have to put up with this bs.  Figure out some other ways to deal with spammers, trolls, disrupters, and bots!  No other forum puts all these errors and if they do they should not either!  In any case the forum should be more considerate and advise people where is the NEWBIE section and to go there first.  Then fix those other errors.  Much time wasted.

1. Have no comment on this as I cannot remember whether it tells you to check the newbie section when you first signup.

2. As a newbie, you need to wait for 360 seconds before between each post; logging in and searching will reset the time as well.

3. I seldom use the search function. Instead I use google search with "site:bitcointalk.org"
2569  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Asking for 1,000 BTC loan on: January 26, 2014, 08:04:16 AM
I am looking for a btc loan but pegged to the usd! I want to borrow 1000 BTC pegged at $600 US each.

My plan is to take the 1000 BTC and HOLDING them until they are worth $2000 US each.

At that point I will give you back 1000 BTC.

Why can't you do this yourself? Because you would have to cash out first and repurchase. Some of you may not be able to do this. I am a trusted member and can make us both more money.

and 6+ hours later...

Now that the coke wore off, I don't think this makes sense.

you're too funny mate, epic.  Grin

lol, OP is too funny Cheesy
2570  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for a 7 BTC loan - 6 month term - 9% Interest on: January 26, 2014, 07:59:46 AM
Arcas,

Obviously I could sell the gold, or sell the car, or anything that I have listed for collateral! Also I am not trying to pay 18% just 9% like my ad says, which would make the loan on par with any small personal loan from a bank. Just with slightly better terms. Getting the money is not really the issue, the issue is something deeper and more of a problem with the community's mentality.
One of the biggest reasons I am requesting the loan from the community, is because I have spent hours and hours reading posts about people asking for sometimes reasonable loans, and in my opinion not a single loan has been funded on this forum. Why even have the lending forum if people are not going to take it seriously? Not sure if people don't have the money to lend or get their rocks off trying to disrespect other members of this community, or Just love to trash talk... I just wanted to see for myself if this would happen, as you can see I have more than enough mentioned collateral to secure this loan x 10, and gave all the terms and conditions of the payback in the title. Very simple terms.

To be honest, I don't think most of the people that talk trash on this forum, even have the coin to fund a loan bigger than a few coins, I guess time will tell.

Arcas was saying "18% APR" instead.

FYI: APR = Annual percentage rate

2571  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How Can I Buy Things Online With Bitcoins? on: January 26, 2014, 07:41:49 AM
This is where you can buy things using bitcoins

https://www.bitmit.net/

BTW, bitmit has been shut down.

Edit: My bad, didn't notice Eternity's post was made in October.

You can always give CryptoAlley a try.  It's new and looking for buyers and sellers. Everything is there to sell and buy including an independent payment processor.

Your ad in the signature is too big lol.

What is this??

2573  Economy / Economics / Re: mtGox vs btc-e price? on: January 26, 2014, 07:28:15 AM
wow, thanks for the info guys. I'm new to BTC so yep it had me stumped. I never saw the threads talking about it.

I just figured why in HELL would people buy BTC there since it's 100$ more and second question why would people use it if you can't withdraw.
Then yet another question..... why haven't people sued yet?

Why doesn't MT.GOX just die?

It is dying. Just they aren't putting it on their home page. One day we will wake up and there will be nothing there. Just a lot of angry ex-customers owed money (or BTC)

I have been waiting for that day for a long time.
I am so confused why it is still in business lol. Tongue
2574  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is MtGox dying? on: January 26, 2014, 07:26:03 AM
It was the largest exchange, and maybe the admin "forget" to update the site.  Wink

IMHO, mtgox has no advantage but tons of disadvantages when compared with other exchanges, eg. ~150+ higher buying price, terribly delayed USD withdrawal, very bad support, no LTC, etc.
2575  Economy / Economics / Re: Difference in exchange rates... on: January 26, 2014, 07:21:09 AM
Also, you might want to sell bitcoins (buy them cheap elsewhere, sell on MtGox, make profit) and wait for several months. Some people do not mind the long wait.

Have you been listening at all? You can't get your money out of gox. They will likely be out of business before they send any international wires. You wanna risk it?

If you know exactly how long you need to wait, and you are guaranteed to be able to get the USD after the wait, then maybe someone would not mind the wait.

The problem is you never know how long the wait will be.
It maybe 2 months, maybe a year, or maybe never.
The site may just die and go bankrupt before you receive your USD.
2576  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is it worth investing in USB Block Erupters? on: January 26, 2014, 07:04:41 AM
So, I heard you cant mine Scrypt coins with an ASIC miner, Are these ASIC, If not, Where is there a guide to mining them with scrypt? and will they mine at the advertised hash rate? Thanks!

The ASIC you found now are all specially designed for SHA-256 hashing.
There is also some rumors (or maybe news?) that some scrypt ASIC are being developed.

For example, this guy is selling "Scrypt ASIC / SHA-256 combo miners" here, but I am not sure if it is legit or not.

2577  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Safest bitcoin wallet? on: January 26, 2014, 07:01:03 AM
Bitcoin-qt vs bitcoind? Or is there anything more secure?
Something that provides easy to use offline wallet functionality, armory or electrum.

How much disk space does electrum take atm?
(oh nvm, it doesn't work like bitcoin qt I think)
Is there a link to the electrum download site, It sounds interesting.

This is the website. https://electrum.org/
This is the Electrum board here on bitcointalk. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=98.0
2578  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Basic question: where wallet data is gathered from when restoring from seed? on: January 26, 2014, 06:50:42 AM
The seed is used to calculate your private keys. From your private keys they derive the public key and the address which is a hash of the public key. Bitcoin is a ledger based payment system. All transactions are stored in the ledger called the blockchain. Electrum does not require you to have a local copy of the blockchain. Instead it queries 3rd party electrum servers for transaction data using your addresses. You can find out which server you are connected to by clicking on the green icon in the bottom right or switching to the console tab of the electrum window.

I know Electrum is a HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallet, and all of my addresses are derived solely from the initial seed.

So, my problem is, say if I have generated 2000 addresses and used them to receive and send bitcoin, when I use my seed to "restore" the wallet, will it know I have used 2000 addresses or do I need to manually "re-generate" the 2000 addresses?
2579  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's the safest way to store BTC? on: January 26, 2014, 06:41:50 AM
An alternative encrypted USB from portableapps.com : http://worldsbestflashdrive.com
Similar pricing.

This one over the other. This one has an amazing laser that goes pew pew!
Jesus... 94$ for 8gb? I mean, it looks nice and everything, but that's too much. Might as well just buy a cable lock ,then wrap it around and use it to lock my 10$ flash drive.

Man! It still has an amazing laser that goes pew pew!

lol Tongue

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the laser that goes pew pew is used to ENGRAVE YOUR NAME on the device. It's not part of it.

I am so disappointed right now Cheesy
2580  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help! I Lost Bitcoins on: January 26, 2014, 06:34:36 AM
Another problem here is that, if Gyft or BitPay returned the bitcoin back to original sender address (owned by vircurex), you will not be credited directly on vircurex.

You would very likely need to contact vircurex support for that as well.
