2561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Evidence | Is HongKongCoin Dev team the Bittrex & Poloniex Imposters in Forum? on: April 08, 2014, 04:57:30 PM
Premine dumped, dev buys 25 sacks of rice and live happily ever after.

Out of curiosity, I checked how much the premine is worth. The 25 sacks of rice may be optimistic. Even if the dev cashed out the entire premine, he might get enough for a couple of meals at a restaurant? That assumes the premine numbers are accurate.

If the dev is scamming anyone, it'd be like the most pointless scam ever.

You could try to ruin my reputation. However, you could not destroy the fact. People can judge by themselves.   Wink

I assure you, at this point it's impossible for me to ruin your reputation.

Welcome HKC dev team (HongKongCoin dev and poornamelessme) to post in my thread. [However, trolling is NOT welcome.]

Cheers!

Ah, I'm on a dev team now? Nice. Never been on one before. Do I get free coins or something? I didn't realize it was so easy to get on a team. I think you listed every single person who posted in the ann thread as being on the team too, including someone who simply replied to your post about giving away free coins (that you stole from the faucet)?

2564  Local / 山寨币 / Re: HongKongCoin Illegal Gambling: Bitcoin/Altcoin Gambling in HongKong is Illegal on: April 08, 2014, 03:06:37 AM
Did you know that you can convert HKC to bitcoin, or other currencies, and then gamble on other sites too? Maybe the HKC devs made every gambling site out there, for every alt currency that exists? Ever think of that?

Sound crazy? Well, now you know how everyone reading your posts feels.

Nobody besides like 2-3 people in this entire forum even know what a Hong Kong Coin even is. Nobody but you wants to see a million HKC troll threads. Well, actually, it may push the price up for the coin, since otherwise it wouldn't get any notice, but somehow I doubt that is your intention.
2565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 08, 2014, 02:44:19 AM

Regarding bloat and spam, the hardest thing is truly differentiating between those who are legitimately excited about a coin (n00bishness and so forth) from those who are deliberately using sockpuppets to promote a coin. Sure it's much easier to differentiate between those who are trolls (or just acting like one) and those who aren't, but most of the bloat that you can find in this section are from those who pose as n00b contributors.

This will be a very newbie-ish question, but can moderators always tell who are using sockpuppets? Or do those who make extra accounts here use different IP addresses?

If most puppets use the same IP, then a little forum moderation is all we need. Is there any particular reason why the forum owners decided to more or less ignore this section completely? If they killed the trolls, put in some rudimentary requirements for IPO announcements and just kept things organized a bit better, I'd think it would help things a lot.
2566  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 08, 2014, 12:47:20 AM

Ah yes.  But you are very young and I don't think you comprehend what that would do to the coin.  Please consider this:

1.  many people have paid a lot of money for coin, with the statistics laid out before them.  They knew of the history of the coin, yet they decided to buy anyway.  So they took into consideration the history of the coin and the future total number of coins that will be mined.   You want them to accept a short term increase of 33% of the total number of coins mined this year, decreasing the value a minimum of 30%, but likely to crash the market and kill the coin.  Look at what the "airdrop" for Auroracoin did.  People collected the coins and cashed them out right away, not caring that the price was crashing, they were getting something for nothing.  It is human nature, and I'm sorry, but at 17 you will still be idealistic, blindly so if you don't see this coming.

2.  Doing this would remove all trust in this coin.  People would feel the developer is untrustworthy, changing the game at the drop of a hat.  I argued against changing the number of coins to be mined, not just because I thought a larger number of coins was good for the usefulness of the coin, but because I didn't want things mucked with.  I think stability is important.   But since it actually  increased the future value of the coin due to making it more scarce, it was overwhelmingly supported.  But remember, people will always vote themselves more money, it's human nature.  It's why a democracy can never work and why the United States is a Republic.  Until they understand the consequences.  Unfortunately, the masses have other things on their minds than to dig in deep enough to make a wise decision.  That's why we're always in financial trouble Cheesy

I'm very glad you've become interested in cryptocurrency.  In a few years, you will have a good understanding of economics if you keep up with it.

I thought it odd that an airdrop was even briefly considered. It would kill the price of the coin and really not rectify the original issue. New people would take their free coin, then dump... and kill the price, like you said.

I did mention one idea in cryptohunter's moderated thread (unless he deleted it, like most of my other posts) --

The only way I could see something like a mini-airdrop working is if a small amount of coin was given out to early miners/adopters, sort of like a token to partially rectify the early instamine thing. I have no idea how early miners/adopters would even be identified (blockchain/mining address)? But pretend if it could be confirmed, it would get around a couple of problems of a big airdrop, mainly new people gobbling up coins to dump and killing the price of the coin. Those receiving it would be much less likely to dump, were about mining or buying coin early on, so logically they'd be more likely to hold. People would probably still complain, but it's the only way I can see anything like that working.
2567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MZC][SHA-256] MAZACOIN *First Sovereign Currency* ANDROID WALLET AVAIL.!! on: April 08, 2014, 12:20:28 AM

Unfortunately, AP says:

"CryptoDirect ‏@CryptoDirect  Apr 4
@boxxa @guruvan You don't do surgery on a new-born baby. MazaCoin is not a democracy we don't vote on changes."

That does make me wonder about something. Why even have a lead developer (or whatever Boxxa's position was called), if AP basically just does whatever it is he wants to do? And why in the World did Payu agree to sign up with a developer if that developer has full and complete control of the coin?

A project like this should either be a democracy, or whoever is out there publicly (Payu) should have full control... be the boss, and simply pay a dev to work for him. It does seem like they have a bizarre setup.
2568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 11:58:30 PM

I'm new and only recently heard Solidcoin even existed. Recently I found one really small exchange still trading it. I never even heard of tenebrix/fairbrix until, now. None of these coins are even on coinmarketcap and there are some really shit coins right at the bottom of it.

If there were only a few alt coins back in Solidcoin's day and quite a few seem to be dead, how many of today's shit coins will go the same way? I bet that in a year's time newcomers will never even know half of the coins on coinmarketcap today even existed.

I never heard of tenebrix/fairbrix until just now either. I think the vast majority of current coins will vanish within a year (or be so meaningless that they might as well vanish). Even good coins will probably vanish shortly thereafter. But the exchanges may keep some coins alive longer than they really should, I expect. Even now, coins that should vanish are still listed on some exchanges.... nobody uses them, they barely get any trades, but they remain.

BCX sort of answered my main question. I was less curious about the million alts/shitcoins and spamminess of the forum, and more so in regard to the general tone of the forum and overall immaturity. I guess in a forum with little to no moderation, and a topic that appeals to human greed, it shouldn't be unexpected really. It just seemed weird to me. I also agree with Igotspots ... I haven't ever seen a forum with so much hate as here before... although hate may be too strong a word. Perhaps lack of morality would be the better term to use.

" http://crjones.com/" that website makes my entire brain hurt... good gawd. almost as bad as the new maza site:P

Please, for the love of god, someone at maza sign up a web designer for the main site. Evidently everyone currently involved with maza has vision issues or are stuck in 1995.
2570  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DARKCOIN BIG SCAM?? let's take a closer look on: April 07, 2014, 07:43:40 PM

So you are going to give back the 2million (50% of all drk coins that exist) that devs and a few pals mined in 24 hours or not?

You can't ask the thieves to vote on whether they want to give some of the loot back can you?

I'm hesitant to post again in this thread, because it seems like half of whatever I say gets deleted anyway. But since the drk airdrop thread is now locked and evidently not going to happen, will post here instead.

An airdrop of that size never really made any sense. It'd  kill the price, and I'm not sure how it would rectify the issue exactly. They'd end up with a ton of new people just signing up for free coins, not really solving any issues. In fact it'd probably make things worse.

What they could do, but expect they won't, is offer a small amount of coins for early adopters/miners of the coin, but I have no idea how they could verify this (check by blockchain or mining address)? It'd at least help rectify the issue somewhat, and get around the problem of newcomers just gobbling up coins and then dumping them.
2571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mazacoin people -is Payu still alive? on: April 07, 2014, 07:13:32 PM
CNN will be doing some filming towards the end of the month about Maza and the tribe. It's unknown what they will eventually air or when, however. There is also no guarantee they will air anything.

But it potentially could be rather big.
2572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 06:58:36 PM
About 3 months ago, when you started, the Altcoin subforum had pretty much already gone to shit.

Prior to about November of 2013, it was a much cooler place to hang out.  New coin ANN's were much less frequent, and there were far fewer trolls.

Personally, I think it's all DOGE's fault.  DOGE taught the world that a cute, catchy name & meme and nothing else can become a wildly popular coin.  It sorta opened the floodgates for shitcoins to start pouring in like crazy.

It actually used to be worse.  You should have seen it before they banned the giveaway/promo threads.  Holy hell.

I caught the tail-end of the giveaways here. I actually think giveaways were fine, if they were stuck in their own subforum. Having them in the main thread was never a good idea though.

And I was speaking more as to actual discourse, rather than the over-abundant number of coins being released. That is a problem too, which I would think a little forum moderation could help clean up (subforum for brand new alts, secondary subforum for alts on major exchanges)? That sort of thing would at least help organization a bit.

But to me, the biggest surprise was the number of  trolls, fud and overall lack of maturity from many in this forum.
2573  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MZC][SHA-256] MAZACOIN *First Sovereign Currency* ANDROID WALLET AVAIL.!! on: April 07, 2014, 06:29:58 PM

There was community submitted designs that all were vetoed. We also had people wanting to translate the site in multiple languages, modernize the icon, and a ton of other work. Again, all vetoed. I met in the IRC channel and talked to a lot of users who were looking to help and tried to keep them involved. Everything was vetoed by AP. One of the biggest motivating things about this project was how the people in the community rallied and wanted to help with every aspect. Being unable to help them, I decided to leave and move on learning what I did.

Payu handles all the media and tribal dealings. He is the one that runs the acceptance and meeting with tribal leaders to get the name out there and initially secured the 100% support from the tribe to pursue the crypto venture. His impact on this project is amazing and I still am in touch with him daily. He really is a great person and the things he has dealt with on this project is unbelievable from the pressure from states to give up and the tribal politics and corruption he has uncovered.

AP is the developer. He has the original code and plan and handles all the development on the website, twitter, clients, etc. I was told to not work on the client updates anymore and there will be no updates this year, even cosmetic, to help usability. The website and exchange was all done by him and wasn't even going to deviate from the original template even after it was cloned to MapleCoin and another coin that wanted our help, then suddenly this abomination of a design showed up.

I first just want to thank you for replying. Many here (including myself) were sort of begging for any Maza devs to post here. I think you guys may have underestimated how much it could have helped your cause early on if there was a dev presense in this forum.

One key problem with the coin is that many investors don't really invest in the coin alone. We are investing in the devs and creator of the coin. And then we see things like MapleCoin... then the website...
I would have thought there were be a legal agreement between Payu/AP/you that no clones, ripoffs or similar coins to Maza could be created by any party. It's like signing up a software dev for an app/game, and a month later the same dev makes a ripoff using the same code. It's a weird way to go about things, at least from an outsider's perspective.

Anyway, thanks again for posting. I do agree the CNN thing could potentially help a lot. I just wonder how the coin would have done if it had a different coder on-board. And turning away help offered by the community is just silly, which I realize wasn't your call... but it's hard to fathom. Both the logo made here in this forum, and the mazatalk website, are much better than what the coin is using now.

adding rupayacoin to the termination list

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521251.0

I had no idea what a rupayacoin was until I just saw your mention here. I also see  in the ann thread where muddafudda evidently has math problems, as the coin doesn't have a 6% premine. It's 1%.

So it's basically an average coin, no IPO, no airdrop, 1% premine... very few have heard of it, very few exchanges, probably a waste of time. But how is it a scam exactly?  I am just wondering what process some are using to determine what is a scam/shitcoin vs an okay coin? Or are you randomly just choosing coins in the ann section?

Logically you'd think coins like infinite coin v2  (colossus coin) would be on the list, if rupaya coin somehow qualifies. Not that I think any coins should be marked for termination, but again, I am curious what methodology, if any, is being used.
2575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 05:17:10 PM
There is something I have been wondering about... has this forum always been the way it is now? I am somewhat new to cryptos, as I started about 3 months ago. I don't have much invested and am doing this mostly for fun, or with the approach if I do ever make a decent amount, my odds are about the same as winning a lottery. Anyway, when I stumbled across this site, I first expected it to be very very different than it is now.

I thought there would be analytical talk about cryptocurrency from economists. I expected some financial analysis, perhaps some theory discussed. But instead, we have... well, what we have.

There is basically no forum moderation whatsoever. The number of alts run rampant with no organization at all, trolls run free in the streets, scammy behavior all over, and quite often the level of discourse is about what you'd expect from a 14 year old.

Was it always like this? I am not for centralization or more control over cryptos in general, so don't mistake my post as meaning I want greater control or censorship. I just would like to see a better forum here. And those who scream 'scam' the loudest, spread fud all over, are probably doing more harm than many scammers. Just checking the forums today I see such nuggets of wisdom such as this:

Quote
oh yeah Jefferey dahmer did a great job injecting hydrochloric acid or boiling water into the skulls of his victims to turn them into sex slave zombies
and was a great at keeping severed penis's, torso's and heads in his freezer.. he was so good at he got away with it for years !
so i guess he deserved to get away with it and so does every other guy that comes along right ?
"amazing" work eh ? yaaaaaaaaaaa

ohh yeah i looooove your logic buddy ahahhahhahaa

omygod you people are fucked in the head seriously

Has the falling price of cryptos driven everyone insane here? Or were they always like that?

I don't understand the fork talk. The only fork, as a dev, that I was pushing for was merged mining (which was posted on the original announcement was going to be supported) and difficulty calculation changes to help fight the multipools and the stuck chains. A coin that should confirm every 2 minutes getting stuck for 30min or more is not good.

Block reward changes and block times that required a fork is a very poor move and was never agreed on. The economics of the coin are set and reducing the coin growth through mining and block changes would destroy the integrity of the coin and also profit large holders and miners who are only involved for the price and want profits.

Since you are the only dev who has appeared here (well, that I know of), I do have some questions I wonder if you would be willing to answer.

Most of the fork talk from people here isn't because they are super greedy, nor expect large profits from it. It's simply to stabilize the price at somewhat okay-ish levels. At its current price of 200-250 sats, the 1000 maza meant to be given out is worth about $1 USD. Isn't it going to be much, much harder to convince the tribe to take on the coin officially if the coin value is so minimal? I mean, how can Payu try to convince anyone from the tribe that $1 worth of crypto will really help anyone?

Yes, the price can go up. But logically you'd think if the coin was worth a bit more, it'd be more likely to be adopted.

There is also the issue of the official website, which baffles me as to why a professional (or even a decent amateur) designer wasn't used. As it is now, it'll do more harm than if you simply didn't have a website at all.

Who is calling the shots in Maza land? AP? Payu? Were you? Or was it a situation where too many cooks spoiled the broth?
2578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is ANY coin even Attempting Mass Adoption, Seriously!!!! on: April 06, 2014, 09:16:32 PM

MOST of the time you mention BTC or even LTC, you get blank stares. Since the OP said attempting mass adoption, Noblecoin would be a good answer as they're getting a ton of exposure no?

Heh, true... although a decent number of  people do know about BTC now. LTC... not really.

As for Noblecoin attempting mass adoption, I should have been clearer in my post. They are attempting  a greater level of adoption, but I wouldn't view their marketplace really as part of some form of mass adoption. It's a great idea, but a bit too small scale to be considered 'mass'.

But yep, they would fall under one of the coins at least attempting mass adoption, hence why I included them on my list. I thought by your post that you meant they were already achieving some form of mass adoption, but they have quite a ways to go for that.
2579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is ANY coin even Attempting Mass Adoption, Seriously!!!! on: April 06, 2014, 09:01:52 PM

Well noblecoin does many charity events and sponsor ESEA which is HUGE, so yeah I consider that mass adoption xD

I like NobleCoin, and those events do help. But to me, mass adoption means a large percentage of people use the coin for purchasing merchandise, or at least using the coin on a regular basis. Exposure doesn't equal mass adoption, necessarily. I am not even sure how many people here knew anything at all about NobleCoin until that recent paper by the dev.

I think the way many here look at the term 'mass adoption' differs from how outsiders would view it. Go up to any stranger and mention NobleCoin to them and you will get blank stares.

i am not here to advise people to invest in btc or drk. I am here to discuss the instamine.

that is it period.

Considering the fact that my posts hardly could be considered trolling, and to me to do seem to be on-topic, perhaps you could at least keep them up so others could consider all viewpoints? Or at least have opinions on which people can discuss?

You are deleting posts in a way too heavy-handed fashion, in my opinion, making this thread close to useless. I was questioning whether the instamine even matters as far as price dumping goes,  and wondering how btc's situation differs. Honestly just wondering how it differs... not using it for justification. I guess there is no point for anyone to post in this thread really. Basically it reads like you want to discuss the instamine so long as whomever posts, posts the same exact same things you do.
