2581  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 18, 2018, 03:36:34 AM
I have a prediction for all the naysayers. Let posit that BTC difficulty and price come to where there is basically no profit to be had. Some folks will still mine with free or almost free electricity, like Phil. But I would imagine with all this hardware out there that it would not be much more than just a firmware flash away to mine something else. Maybe that's SHA256 based or? Who knows, innovation is always driven by these kinds of events.

That's not to say buying this equipment isn't a risk. But I imagine we'll always find a use for it.
What do you mean? These machines can only mine SHA256 with the ASICs they are outfitted with (as ASICs are built to do one thing), and they can only hash SHA256 as a result and nothing else. Flashing them to mine something other than a SHA coin wouldn't work. Flashing for more algos only worked on the Baikal alt miners a while back as they were FPGA based iirc.
2582  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: February 16, 2018, 11:35:29 AM
FWIW I picked up an S3+ miner on Amazon for about $250. Even though the power/hash rate isn't that good ~.7watts/Ghs it runs well and very quiet relative to the newer miners.

Waiting for the upgrade boards too. :-)
That's a horrible price to pay for an S3. They used to sell for $70 or less on pretty much every site, and even now you can get a better deal for them on eBay. First search I looked for on eBay was a $180-190 S3 with shipping factored in. Not a great price but still lower than your $250.

It's still a quiet miner though, enjoy!
2583  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is mining still worth it for the average person? on: February 15, 2018, 10:42:03 PM
ROI time on most GPUs isn't actually as bad as most people are making it out to be right now. Assuming you get a 6GB 1060 for around ~$330, you'll make your money back in about 6.5-7 months (at ten cents electrical cost and assuming you're mining ZEC or ETH) as things stand. Any ROI time under a year is pretty good for mining, considering many other investments make you much less money in the same time period (and possibly have more risk), and mining used to be significantly less profitable than it is now even with high GPU prices and coin prices falling a bit recently.

If you've got electrical costs around or below 10 cents per kw (15 is okay but not ideal) and have the patience to snipe graphics cards when they come back in stock at decent prices, mining sure is still worth it. Combine that with the knowledge on this forum and you're set for mining.
2584  Other / Meta / Re: Need a help to earn merits on: February 15, 2018, 08:29:21 PM
There are people who rarely give out merits and people who often give out merits- it'll take some time, but I expect in a few month's time more deserving posts will receive merits. The system isn't perfect and not every "good" post you make may receive merits, but I guarantee you that if you post genuinely and with good quality you will receive merits.

Your post history isn't exactly good in terms of what you've been posting recently. It's better to have one good post than a hundred shitty ones, and this post being one of your longer ones doesn't bode well for you getting any merit anytime soon.
2585  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 15, 2018, 01:31:41 AM
Hi everyone!  Wink

I want to order S9 to Estonia. Bitmain site provides for 3 delivery options:
- UPS (39 USD/kg),
- Fedex (19 USD/kg),
- DHL (14 USD/kg).

With 5.5 kg weight of S9 this leads to
+ 215 USD for UPS
+ 105 USD for Fedex
+ 80 USD for DHL

Thus the total price of 1 S9 with APW3++ peaks more than 2 760 USD  Cry = 2 320 (Price of S9) + 215 (UPS delivery) + 105 (APW3++ price) + 120 (UPS delivery of APW3++)

Is this estimation correct? I can't believe delivery costs are that high  Embarrassed

Are there any other delivery options? How you guys deliver S9 to your country? I believe delivery prices I pointed out are more or less the same across Europe.

This is European Union man, prices are identical. By the way this is your least problem, you should be more worried about the ~20% (depending on the country, but it is around that percentage) customs duties that you will have to pay upon delivery Smiley Else said = 2 760 USD + 552 (20% taxes) = 3312 USD final price as compared to 2320 list price. This is what all we have all been paying for 1 machine in EU. If you notice unofficial European resellers, prices are even higher, so that they can be on profit.

Thx for response Kobo_eth!  Kiss

Still can't believe in these numbers. Everyone in sources that I came through calculates payback period simply based on production price (2 320 USD)  Grin

With 3 312 USD initial cost and 11.8 USD daily revenue (0.00127 BTC (Whattomine data as of now) * 9 300 (Coinmarketcap data as of now) = 11.8 USD) S9 will pay out itself in like 280 days and that's without taking into account complexity growth and risks of new Antminer release Shocked
Unfortunately those numbers seem to be assuming no pool fee and free electricity in addition to difficulty and new miners being released.

Most pools charge some sort of fee near 2% and electrical costs usually land somewhere around 10 cents per kilowatt. Assuming those numbers are factored in you're near 8 dollars without difficulty being factored in. Not bad, but there's more.

Difficulty is always going to go up and with a couple new miners being planned I suspect difficulty will only go up. In a couple difficulty periods at a rate of 5-10% the S9 will only be making half of what it is making now. Difficulty isn't linear, but this is just for estimation.

In an ideal world you're making your money back in 280 days, but that's not so for 99% of people. Unless BTC's price jumps up again you're probably not coming close to ROI- assuming the absolute best scenario at this current price point you'll make back just around $2000 a year. BTC may be volatile and prices might swing wildly every day, but you have no way of knowing what's next. Prices could go up just as easily as they could go down. It's pretty much a gamble each time you buy a miner from Bitmain as you have no way of seeing ROI info when you get the miner unless you have a crystal ball. You might be lucky, maybe not. Even with free electricity the S9 is still a questionable buy.
2586  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Other Decent Bitcoin Forums? on: February 14, 2018, 09:49:06 PM
I would not suggest using Reddit. Censorship on both r/Bitcoin and r/BTC is high, and FUD runs on both crazily (people pay for upvotes, manipulate voting, and even buy accounts to shill to name a few things; it's been absolutely cancerous since a few years ago). It really doesn't get any better than Bitcointalk if you're looking for any sort of Bitcoin or Altcoin-related discussion or help.

2587  Other / Meta / Re: Chances of signature campigns being removed from this forum on: February 14, 2018, 09:18:53 PM
If signature campaigns have been running for years and are still running, it clearly shows that these signature campaigns are profitable for marketers to run and they do get clicks. Posts on this forum can be found on Google, and with some people having thousands and thousands of posts, it's very likely even someone browsing Google for information that somehow lands on Bitcointalk will click on a signature after getting the information they need, as one change in avatar and signature means the signature and avatar is changed on all of your posts.
2588  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tron Wallet on: February 14, 2018, 09:08:14 PM
I personally use my Ledger wallet and transfer my coins to an exchange only when I need to sell. Storing anything on exchanges is extremely dangerous, even with reputable exchanges. Even though MEW isn't the safest thing in the world you control the private key by using it, and that's the only important thing. You don't control the keys when you use an exchange for storage.

Tron plans to release its own coin wallet and move off of ERC20 sometime later this year, but for now it's an Ethereum token.
2589  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: leaving home with 5 gpu miners paranoid of fire safety on: February 14, 2018, 09:00:07 PM
If you turn down power like people mentioned above me and also put the miners on a concrete floor or something of the sort that is naturally fireproof there's going to be very little risk of fire. Third option should work best for you if you're extremely concerned about safety.

You should be putting your miners in a place that isn't at risk of burning up anyways. If you already do this, just being able to remotely control your miners should be enough.
2590  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Old AntMiner S5 mining issues on: February 14, 2018, 01:05:45 AM
I bet it's the fans somehow malfunctioning with RPM. If you can find which one is the culprit you should be able to find replacement fans for the unit pretty easily if you're willing to spend a bit to repair your miner as the S5 doesn't require high CFM fans to cool it aquedately.

I skipped from S3s to S7s, but some had a "disable alarm" checkbox in the web interface.   If it exist, that might help, but I would seriously pause and see what the problem is.  Perhaps take the fans off and plug them into a motherboard and see if they spin up, or at least verify they are still spinning freely.
This could also work if temps are okay on the miner. A box like shown below should be in the miner config page, just uncheck the beep option. Like VRobb previously mentioned, these two things shown below are closely related. If it doesn't work, post back with some temp readings.

2591  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any pool like PROHASHING but for sha-256? on: February 13, 2018, 09:46:56 PM
Multipool's going to be your best bet for a profit switching pool. BTC.com and ViaBTC's pool also does profit switching between BTC and BCH, but I've found both pools pay less than Slushpool due to their payment methods, especially ViaBTC. I haven't really heard of any other legitimate SHA profit switching pools outside of those two that I know of. There may be others, but most are just binary BTC and BCH.
2592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on Intel HD Graphics 530, integrated GPU. on: February 13, 2018, 09:33:36 PM
Cut for extra room; for the post scroll up or click on the text on top of this message.

Can't wait to hear your results, I too would like to mine on my integrated Intel Iris Pro 580 which, as far as gaming goes, is actually not bad. It's in my Intel Skull Canyon NUC so it's got pretty good cooling in it compared to a laptop and probably can run at 100% for a lot longer than a laptop can. But so far I haven't found anything that can mine cryptonote currencies with the Intel GPU.  I used to mine bitcoins briefly with it though and it could pull off around 100 MH/s which is pretty good, a long time ago lol. But I bet for cryptonote currencies, it'd be very good.
I'd still monitor temperatures on the NUC for the first few days of it mining just in case something goes out of whack (and maybe have some thermal paste on hand too). The Intel GPU itself probably won't mine quickly and I'd personally leave it be but your best bet is probably something like XMR with something like a NUC if you're looking to mine remotely profitably.

2594  Economy / Services / Re: [BitBlender] Signature Campaign - Seniors and up (CFNP) on: February 13, 2018, 09:16:55 PM
First off, the outstanding rounds, there will be a payment covering the last two pay round (this sunday and sunday two weeks ago) tomorrow morning.

Sad I only got paid for 3/4 weeks. Did I miss something or did the funds in the escrow address just run out?
If you look at the spreadsheet Lutpin paid you less as you had 7 posts less than 100, which was the minimum for the four-week double round requirement.

I've been in this campaign since it started a bit more than a year ago if I recall correctly, but I think as of this round I'll be leaving. I hope to participate in more of your signature campaigns if the opportunity arises, Lutpin. It's been a good run and you ran things well.
2595  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 12, 2018, 10:26:35 PM
I'm confused as to why Bitmain is still marketing all their rebrands like the V9 as being 'new'. Don't think it's fooling anybody at this point, but I reckon the R4s will still sell well as more people are getting in crypto and want to mine quietly (too bad these things were extremely unreliable). I recall the R4s were selling for close to or more than $2000 at some point near Bitcoin's ATH.

Also, the miner does 8/8.7TH/s and uses .1W/GH, so power usage is around 800-870W. Nowhere near the 2Kw you were mentioning earlier. Any further discussion about the R4s should also happen in the link below instead of in the S9 thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1597639.840
2596  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 🔥 Mining with GPU still possible? 🌟 on: February 12, 2018, 10:20:30 PM
ROI is slower than it was just a few weeks ago when ETH was soaring high, but mining is still relatively profitable. ROI all across the board is lower due to the fact that crypto corrected earlier, but the ROI period for most cards is still under 1 year. That's pretty good for any sort of investment.
2597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The best rig operating system. ethOS vs. Windows vs. Linux vs. MS-DOS? on: February 12, 2018, 01:35:19 AM
I've had experience in the past with booting Linux and ethOS off USBs and both ran great. There are people using pirated versions of Windows out there, but Linux is free and works great for mining. It doesn't take a whole lot of knowledge to start mining on Linux despite what most people think, and it's just great to learn how to use Linux at least a bit anyways. Drivers are a bit of an issue on Linux, but that still doesn't deter me from using it for mining.
2598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: building big mining rigs on: February 12, 2018, 01:27:26 AM
The card requirements to actually use all of the slots on some boards is a dealbreaker for me personally (P104/106). With more cards comes less stability in many cases as well, which is why I just prefer to have a few more motherboards with less cards rather than a few with a lot. In the end I usually just go for deals on boards that I personally trust for stability and have positive reviews. Plenty of people run rigs on boards that support less than 10 cards and they run just fine.
2599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: a few quistion about mining! on: February 12, 2018, 01:15:04 AM
If you choose to run a LGA1151 board or a platform that supports DDR4, there aren't really 2GB sticks unlike with DDR3 so 4GB is pretty standard nowadays. 2GB should work fine if you're mining on an older board.
2600  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: how much power supply do i need for 6 rx560 on: February 11, 2018, 03:38:35 PM
Please answer the question. I am also planning to make my own rig. But please answer it in simple way. Cause we know nothing about tech so please do not tell anything about down volt or tuning
If you know nothing about tech you should not be mining. You don't learn anything by just plugging cards in and hitting the bat file in Claymore, and you're saving money by undervolting and tuning cards. Changing out the BIOS on cards is just a couple clicks as well; it doesn't take a lot of time and as mentioned before you're saving on electricity.
