so I assumed it is also trying to look for keys on the CPU? Or does it really take that much CPU to verify the keys?
I can answer your last question: my laptop sometimes drops the CPU-speed 90% until I reboot (I think it's an overheat-protection). When this happens, it gets very slow. During this event, I can use oclvanitygen at the normal speed. As always, it uses full CPU, but for the end result it doesn't matter. I can't answer your first question, my Nvidia is 25 times faster than my CPU and the output varies too much to see if the CPU adds 4% more to the total. I wish it wouldn't though, it makes my laptop slow to use during searches.

Now would be a good time to try again! Although https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ recommends 140 satoshi/byte, https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx recommends only 20 satoshi/byte. And this is for an almost instant transaction, so you can go lower. With currently only 3000 unconfirmed transactions there isn't much competition and you have a good chance you can consolidate many small inputs today. Use these rare moments to exchange dust if you have had many small incoming transactions in the past!

I don't know if you understand what ETF really means. This is huge for the non-geek investor to hold bitcoin. It will be possible for anyone to go into their local banks, and tell the employee to but you some COIN shares, anyone can do this. It's like buying "paper gold": if you can't hold the gold in your hand, you don't own it! The same with Bitcoin: if you don't own the private key, you don't own the Bitcoins. Bitcoin isn't like any other share. What if the ETF managers mess up and "get hacked"? It happened to various exchanges. What makes you think this ETF will be any different? And why would you trust them with your money in the long term? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but I have some reservations. I can also use the same argument in favor of the ETF: what if you lose your own private key? What if your wallet gets stolen? What if your own computer gets hacked and the hacker takes your Bitcoins? This has happened much more often than exchanges getting hacked, and a centralized ETF could protect your own Bitcoins when you fail to do so. I can't respond to your $10k prediction, that's possible with or without ETF, just like $100 is possible. There is no upper and lower limit, only a combination of chances, greed and fear.

Why? . . I am seeing various advantages to this over a paper wallet. one is security. . suppose I have funds on a paper wallet in my house, or I am using it to go to a coffee shop to make a transaction, . . suppose my house is robbed (yes I can keep paper wallets in a safe deposit box) , so suppose on the way to make a transaction at a coffee shop that my paper gets lost, (I stupidly drop it or my wallet gets pick pocketed) , or my house gets robbed. . with a paper wallet. . who ever finds the paper can immediately transfer funds, . so once i get to the coffee shop and realize i have lost the paper, by the time i go back home and get the backup info, the funds have had plenty of time to be transferred. . where as if i lost my cold phone wallet, the theif or luck person finding it must first unlock my phone with the screen unlock pattern, then passwords, encryption, etc, . giving me plenty of time to go back and get my backup and transfer those funds away myself first, . I also can backup all my info using a usb cord to an offline computer or sd card and also print paper copies myself, . then store those backups in a safe deposit box. If it all comes down to your safe deposit box, you could just as well use a paper wallet. Or even better: an encrypted paper wallet. Both https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/ and https://www.bitaddress.org/ can easily create encrypted paper wallets, BIP38 encryption is very hard to brute-force with any decent password. I get that you like the project, nothing wrong with some experimenting, but for real-world savings, I wouldn't use this.

we need to start making topics talking about solutions and how to force those solutions on miners.
That's the problem: we (the users) can't force miners to do anything! Even worse: we do the exact opposite: we compete on higher fees, and since most wallets use "dynamic fees" now, we all pay more and we're still waiting! Miners now get 10% of the block reward as fees, and it's growing, without processing more transactions. Bitcoin can't grow without more transactions.

The way you reduce scams is to delete the threads that are scams. I've read the reason these threads aren't deleted: it creates a false sense of security. Basically there are 4 options: A. Thread is legit. B. Thread is a scam but hard to find evidence for. C. Thread is legit but suspected to be a scam. D. Thread is a scam. While D can easily be deleted, it leaves the risk of deleting C, while B gets away with it. The forum is very clear about it: moderators do not remove likely scams. It's up to the user to understand and investigate, instead of being blinded by money and falling for even the obvious scams.

|
There are a lot more obvious scams, like ponzi schemes operating here. Scams are not moderated and it is up to people to be careful.
As long as people want to believe scams, scams will exist. Example: cloud mining! The last big "mining" ponzi I've seen took off with thousands of Bitcoins. New ones instantly popped up, and people jump in again. Sure, some people actually profit from these scams, and these people have a huge interest in getting more people to join, but in the end "investors" lose everything they have in there. You can warn them, but if people choose greed over warnings, it's up to them.

That's a good offer. ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! If it really is true and can give documents and proof that it is yours for real.
There is no legal way to sell a Paypal account. Nobody gives away $1000 out of $1600, so prepare to get scammed and possible fraud charges.

According to http://bitcoinfees.21.co/ the current recommended fee is actually 0.00000140 BTC/byte so each additional input will cost 0.00025200 BTC, still more than the value of each output. That "recommended" fee is only meant to be the lowest possible fee for a very fast confirmation. In this case it's a bad recommendation, emsi has been collecting dust for a long time and I see no reason why he'd be in a rush now. What he could do, is make 10 sat/byte payments, that gives about 6 inputs in 1 kB, so he pays 1 input to collect 5 inputs. Then, copy the transaction (txid) into https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/ to get it confirmed. This way emsi gets to keep about 80% of his 0.05 BTC.
|
|
|
Let me visualize it. This is you: ![](https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.silver50.com%2Fimages%2FProducts%2F90-Dimes_Lg.jpg&t=663&c=xWXnfDEg_3iXnw) If you want to pay with this, counting the coins is expensive. Not so long ago you could consolidate small inputs by adding them to a larger input, old enough to have "Medium" priority on it's own, not exceeding 1000 bytes per transaction. That way you could consolidate 5 each time, even without fee. Nowadays, zero fee transactions barely get confirmed. It might still work once in a while, but most of the time you'll need to pay more fee anyway, and making hundreds of transactions is a lot of work. Maybe you can just keep the dust in the current wallet for a few years? Who knows, in the future fees might get lower again, or 10k satoshi may be worth something at some point.
