I do not read more whitepapers because I only hold bitcoin and some trusted coins. As an investor, we only look for details such as stability, team, company behind, road map, contiguity plan, etc. I am sure people will agree that they don’t really check the whitepaper’s English proficiency, as long as we understand their purpose, security of investments and we will have continuous profit, it's good to go.

Not being contented is a human nature. People search for easy things in life and when they reach that level of “best”, they will not be contented; we find ways to innovate and go to the next level. We all have that feeling of going to the next level when we have attained a certain goal in life. I believe “excitement” or “to feel good” is the right word for such behavior.

Honestly, To tell you all guys it's hard for us to capture your attention from our post or thread that if it is meritable or not. As far as I did until now i'm trying to work hard to earn merit I even join merit giveaway threads in meta I did receive one that's the first best day i had when i have one. I even accept opinions from another user for I can improve my post's quality.

Telling readers that you are just posting to capture the approval/attention of some merit sources, is not a good idea mate. You need to help people understand more about bitcoin, bitcointalk, blockchain or cryptocurrency, not to ass kissing those with sMerit for merit approval. If that is your idea, this should be changed from bitcointalk.org to smerittalk.org. Look around and just enjoy.

I agree, I'd rather stop posting rather than waiting for approval. Admins, mods, and other members won't bother checking your post. For me your solution is not the right solution for problem bitcointalk facing, merit system lessen spam a bit already as we all know there's still spammers in this forum.

Yes, admins, mods, and other members will not bother checking, because they have their own busy lives outside this forum. Complaining is not the right solution either.

Yes, it will attract developers. Bitcoin platforms help many people in terms of financial transactions. It is very user friendly & cost-efficient.  I am sure many developers are now attracted with bitcoin platforms, not just because of its monetary influence but the additional knowledge it will bring to developers.
266  Local / Pilipinas / [It's more fun in the Philippines] Welcome Crypto Economic Zone! on: April 27, 2018, 06:18:48 PM
Philippines Welcomes Crypto Economic Zone

Just WOW News!
It's more fun in the Philippines.
Welcome Crypto Enthusiast!!!

After hemming and hawing in its strange relationship with cryptocurrencies and the businesses they imply, the Philippine government decided to make room for a set aside economic zone. The scheme is offered in hopes of generating more tax income, employment for its people, and perhaps a dedicated crypto university.

Philippines Allows Crypto Companies to Operate Economic Zone
Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) spokesman Raul Lambinos told Reuters, “We are about to licence 10 platforms for cryptocurrency exchange. They are Japanese, Hong Kong, Malaysians, Koreans. They can go into cryptocurrency mining, initial coin offerings, or they can go into exchange.” Exchanges providing onramps to the nation’s fiat money, on the other hand, are encouraged to launch offshore to avoid running afoul of Philippine law.

Such zones offer advantageous tax regimes in the hope of creating more employment for Filipinos. Early this year, the country legalized such zones for crypto, which appears to be more welcoming to digital assets than other countries in the region.

Local authorities estimate over two years crypto companies will invest more than $1 million, with ten percent of that going toward building a tax base. Ambitious plans also include a possible blockchain-based financial technology university to help feed workers to surrounding businesses in the zone.

Acceptance, however, of an economic zone for crypto is a positive first start for the industry, and might signal a slight change of heart on the government’s end.

267  Other / Serious discussion / North and South Korea War Ended. How it will affect bitcoin? on: April 27, 2018, 04:28:21 PM
Another historical event happened this year 2018. North and South Korea ended its 65 years Korean War. I am curious on how it will affect bitcoin. I read that South Korea accused North Korea for hacking their exchanges from 2013 to 2015. See below filtered important details:

North and South Korea vow to end the Korean War in historic accord:

The leaders of North and South Korea have committed themselves to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and pledged to bring a formal end to the Korean War, 65 years after hostilities ceased.

Then, the two leaders left their officials behind and struck out side by side through the DMZ to a footbridge that was recently repainted the same blue used on the Korean Unification Flag. Unexpectedly, they talked for 30 minutes, without anyone taking notes and with cameras at a distance. The contents of the conversation have not been disclosed.

"Seeing Kim Jong Un live, chatting easily with their president, will no doubt have been jolt to South Koreans and remind them that the North Koreans are the same people in many ways, in language and shared history if not their political or economic structure."

Near the DMZ Thursday, 51 people from the Korean War Veterans Revisit Korea Program had gathered to remember their relatives lost in that conflict and support peace and reunification.

"My father Karle Seydel was killed December 7, 1950 in the Chosun reservoir," Ruth Hebert, who was from San Diego in California, told CNN. His body is believed to be still somewhere inside North Korea.

Hebert said she had spoken with South Koreans who had lost family members in the war and been separated from relatives by the partitioning of the Peninsula.

"We hope and pray that ... this starts to really change," she added. "There's a hope with Japan, with Korea, with the Americans to recover remains. There may be a few (prisoners of war) alive but mostly now it's down to remains."

A formal end to the war will involve more than just the Koreas. Both China and the US, under the flag of the United Nations, were massively involved in the conflict, and would have to be signatories to an eventual peace treaty.

North Korea Accused of Hacking South Korean Exchanges:

North Korea, a nation that has previously been accused of mining bitcoin in order to flout sanctions, is suspected to have hacked a number of bitcoin exchanges in South Korea. The country allegedly stole “100 million won ($88,100) in bitcoin from 2013 to 2015 as part of its efforts to increase the country’s hard currency,” according to reports.

A Silicon Angle article quoted the police as stating that “the hackers sent 10 emails to 25 workers each at four different bitcoin exchanges, disguising themselves as officials from South Korean public institutions such as the police, prosecution, Seoul city government or Financial Security Institute.”

The police stated that the attack methodology was a “spear phishing” attack. North Korean hackers pretended to be government authorities and servicemen. A story published by Silicon Angle states that the hackers targeted exchange workers by sending them emails loaded with malware.

One intelligence firm, Record Future, has published Google-backed data providing analysis of North Korean internet activity. The data suggests that North Korea began conducting bitcoin mining on May 17. If this is true, and North Korea has also conducted hacking attacks on exchanges, it could mean North Korea is attempting to weaponize bitcoin.

Now that the conflict in Korean Peninsula has ended. What will be the future of bitcoin in the Peninsula? Will the Korean Peninsula hold the highest rank in the Cryptoworld?  What are your thoughts? Peace.

Mr.Cross

There has never been a better time to be a blockchain developer or cryptographer than right now. With the great rise in both value and prominence of cryptocurrencies in 2017, we’ve seen an unprecedented rise in the demand for blockchain developers. Global giants like IBM, Oracle and SAP are betting big on blockchain technology and are hiring developers in droves. These conglomerates are however not the only companies in need of blockchain developers and they have to compete for them with blockchain and cryptocurrency startups that are springing up in hundreds every day and all over the map. Even global consulting titans such as Accenture and Deloitte are shifting focus to the blockchain industry, opening up even more opportunities in the field. With the enterprise blockchain expected to rise in value from $2.5 billion currently to $20 billion in 2025, the need to find the best talent can’t be overemphasized.

Copy and paste without citing a source is plagiarism.

Merit system is very helpful for us who wanted to learn more about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. We tend to look for ideas to contribute in our community, which is very exciting. Having a rank that you have put your efforts in, is very rewarding.

Your answer is just a copy paste ... You should at least cited their website as your source.

I've given you a little bit of merit for your findings, because I have been too busy to help pugman out with this thread very much. I hope to be back to business as usual very soon, but I've been working on putting together a mining operation and it has been very time consuming. Regardless, good catch on the plagiarism; it's unfortunate that we didn't catch it prior to awarding it merit.

Don't beat yourself up over it pugman, it's only a single merit and it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Let's try to be more diligent moving forward, with maybe a quick google search on different portions of their answer, or something like that. There are free plagiarism checkers all around the internet that would make this a very easy part of the job.

Glad to help, bill gator. I will assist pugman while you are busy; this thread inspired me to start a topic about merit service in Philippine section, it is assign of my gratitude(helping here). Looking forward to hear positive feedback about your mining operation project, bill gator. Congrats in advance.

When i read posts, like that, i remember movie, which name is In Time with Justin Timberlake.
And, of course, sometimes thinking, that persons with so much time is really exist.

Seen that movie. Moral of the story: even if you have billions of money, you cannot escape death & having billions of life wont either. If they want to embrace, bitcoin or not it is their choice. Life is a matter choice and you make your own future.

That is the purpose of merit system, people to work and do quality post. You know the system, you just need to apply it.

274  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system should be removed ! on: April 26, 2018, 02:40:28 PM
personally me think merit system should not be there and ranks should be done via there post counts and quality of its posts

as of its too hard for new comers too to gather merits from old members who always do trades and exchange merit only for them but the person who is new and if he dont has btc to exchange then its less chance for him even after posting quality post on bitcointalk forum

lol now dont give me merit for this i know the points which me said is true and many will agree Tongue

Instead of starting this kind of topic, start doing your research and find some article/s or idea/s that will help the bitcointalk community. I started from the scratch (0 merit) just like you. If you focus on just earning merits, you will feel that earning it, is so difficult. But, if you focus on learning, you will enjoy your time here. There are so many ideas that you can contribute in our community, you just need to find your happiness or your strength, e.g., you are good on making infographics, about blockchain, cryptography or anything that you are good at(of course related to bitcoin). I am sure you will earn your merit if you just contribute without thinking any return (merit). Knowledge is power.

-snip-

This method is called PHISHING where an attacker  will send you a link to login with your bitcoin wallet luring you with the legitimate site example is:
the real site is: https://www.blockchain.info/
the fake site is: http://www.blockchain.ga/

then once you login to the fake site then the hacker or attacker will have now your credentials. Please always check for the green lock on the url bar and the word HTTPS in the link.

so this are some of the way to stop hackers to hack your bitcoin or crypto wallet. If you have other information then you can comment it down and lets help others.

Hi, can you please add these links as your sample:
Legit: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
Fake: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
Therefore, users will know the difference between the legit bitcointalk (.org) and fake bitcointalk (.to).

Good catch mate.... but just little late pugman already awarded him Smiley

Yeah this definition is pretty straight forward and most laziest one like he said.

But pugman was looking for this answer? Really? Sad
To me question was having three parts "What is lightning network? What's its role and what does it do?" i thought it should be answered to the point and separately

Anyway next time will go for the lazy answer :p

That guy is actually a shitposter as you can review his account and old posts.  Grin Grin Grin
Too much copy paste, and without source but he is wining merits another post copied from quora

pugman next question please?

He joined my topic Get Merit Service, which is why I got the chance to check his profile and his post. Upon reviewing, I have notice some words that I have already read from another article, so I did my research to check if I am correct. Yes, correct, all from www.quora.com. See summary.

I think to help newbies understand with this forum, it will be better to create list of special terms used in crypto space as I see this thread is talking on improving English as communication tools in global thread. But some of English words are misspelled for certain reason perhaps. Here are some of special terms to be used in crypto space:

HODL : misspelled from HOLD which is meaning of Still keep the tokens/coin from selling.
DUMP : Effort to decrease the token value, some efforts are by selling a lot with much cheaper price than normal value or to spread FUD.
PUMP : Effort to increase the token/coin value, some efforts are by buying a lot with much higher price than normal value or to spread good news
FUD   : stand for Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. This is usually relevant for bad news or incorrect news.

If only people do their research, it is already on this topic Cryptocurrency Lingo/Slang
