Good luck making an ASIC with 4Gb ultra-fast memory to each processor.

On another subject I recently stated mining Aeon, as I realized Cryptonight-light is 4x faster on CPU's (actually Mattthev told me Cool )

On every CPU I tried it's actually true, hashrate is around 4x that of cryptonight (I used to mine monero and Intense Coin on CPU's).

However, I have a Xeon E5645 that I thought it would be just fine for CPU mining (2.4 Ghz, 6 cores, 12 threads, 12 Mb L3, AES, triple channel memory, 80W TDP) but in reality is an underperformer.

It gave ~200 H/s on Cryptonight, but when mining AEON, performance increase is around 3x (~600 H/s). I tried XMR-Stak 2.2 and now Aeon-Stack-CPU, same thing. That is with 10 threads, 11 and 12 are actually slower.

For instance, Ryzen 1700 went from ~500 to almost 2000 in Cryptonight-light and a 2 core 15 W i7 7500u laptop went 130 to 500+ H/s. Now, that's the 4x were talking about.

I know the i7 7500 is several generations ahead, but damn, that Xeon has 3x more cores and 3x more L3 cache, and it competes with the 2 core low power CPU I have on my laptop. Cryptonight and Cryptonight-light AFAIK use SSE and AES instructions that both CPU have.

Am I doing something wrong, or is that the way that is?

But I'll take this discussion to the How to mine Aeon thread.

Anyway, I'm not seeing 4x HR increase from monero, but around 3x, from ~200 to ~600. Using XMR-Stak 2.1.
I don't know about this new version I haven't done with that anything, but port of XMR-STAK-CPU doing 4x.

And it does on my Ryzen it goes from ~500 to almost 2000 and from 130 to 500+ on my i7 7500u laptop.

But that old Xeon that I thought would be a beast in mining - 6 core, 12 threads, 12 Mb L3, AES, triple channel memory is really a turd...

Oh well, at least it costed me something like $15...  Grin

Are older CPU's really that slow in cryptonight?

I have a rig with an old Xeon 5645 (2.4 Ghz, 6 core, 12 Mb cache AES, SSE 4.2) that gives 200 H/s with xmr-stak / xmrig.

A tiny mobile i7 7500u 2 cores makes 135 and a Ryzen 1700 around 530.

Are newest CPU's really more efficient using AES, does software use other instructions for cryptonight, or what?

I was really expecting more from a 6 core / 12 Mb CPU, but I already checked, and yes, it's average for this CPU.

I think all of them uses AES, I don't know if there are some revisions that makes it faster, but generally newer CPUs are faster every generation and with better power consumption. For CPU mining try AEON, much better for CPU, hashrate is 4x higher then on XMR and only 2x times higher with GPU.

Good tip. It actually uses 12 threads, I suppose cryptonight-lite requires less cache per thread.
Yeah, half.

Anyway, I'm not seeing 4x HR increase from monero, but around 3x, from ~200 to ~600. Using XMR-Stak 2.1.

Do you know a surprise mining Aeon?

Surface's Atom x7-Z8700. 160H/s on 2W, 2 threads...

but the 6 year old fx8120 is still a beast, 420 hash, but it does use more power then new gen cpu's ofcourse.

Impressive. That's why I expected a bit more performance of a 6 core AES CPU.

269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: So, ETH difficulty went ballistic. on: February 11, 2018, 12:48:23 PM
I mine ETH when electricity is cheaper here (at night), now mining ETH+XVG with claymore's 11.0.
During the day I mine cryptonight, now mostly Intense.

4% is nothing, ETH diff doubled since last month I made almost 0.01 ETH during the night, now half of that.

Let's just wait that those who just gave $500 for a AMD card realize they will never pay back the investment + electricity and stop mining  Grin

OMG, this is really popular software.

Since it got out, Blake2s XVG mining on Antminepool went from ~200 GH/s to 5 TH/s...  Shocked

Verium is CPU-only.

Is it still profitable?

Try newest adrenalin drivers.

When set to "compute" the performance is the same or better than august blockchain drivers, and much more stable...
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Adding that second gpu on an older mobo. on: February 09, 2018, 11:26:14 AM
I bet on the PSU.

I have a second rig with an old Asus Rampage II extreme with a "decent" 500W PSU and after I installed a second video card, the system was unstable and the PSU just burnt....

Problem solved with a Corsair TX650 I has around, no more problems.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v11.0 (Windows/Linux) on: February 08, 2018, 06:33:47 PM
I just configured it to antminepool.com, and it's working great.

Using -dcri 12,13,16 with RX 480/570/580 and it gives ~87.2 MH/s on ETH and 1185 MH/s on B2S.

Power consumption increased around 30W on the wall for the whole system vs ETH solo. Much less that ETH+SIA I did before...

Great job, Claymore.

How to configure this to mine Verge on a pool with username / pass instead of wallet address on miner config?

I was mining Verge on http://xvg-mg.idcray.com with sgminer and config was something like "stratum+tcp://sg-mine.idcray.com:10061 -u username.worker -p password".

Thanks.

Nevermind, that is a Myriad-Groestl Algo Pool. Didn't remember that.

Its good if the coin doesn't go bust first Tongue

If one-guy team shit/scam coins don't go bust, why should Intense go that has a dedicated team and a solid roadmap?

I see.  In my personal experience on Win 10 1709 version.  With AMD blockchain, Nvidia and intel onboard drivers I only faced issues with overclocking using claymore config bat.  I had random crashes, thread stuck in driver BSOD even when I knew the card runs without memory errors.  I switched back to OverdriveNTool and haven't faced BSODs like crazy when using claymore oc.
I was using xubuntu without issues.  However, hashrates were lower 0.3-0.5 per card on linux compared to windows and on Cryptonight the hashrate difference was over 100 H/s per card (using two threads didn't show any improvement in linux while it did in windows).

I get the same hashrates with RX570 4Gb and mining-oriented Linux version HIVE Os. 29.5M for ETH, 940 H/s for Cryptonight.
No hassle OC. Strange but in Windows I have to run at 950 mV and in Linux was able to set as low as 875. Never bothered to check for actual GPU voltages.

Are Cryptonight speeds faster in linux?

I have 2 470 4 Gb cards that do almost 30 MH/s on ETH, but max 880 in Cryptonight and that is with Claymore's, less with XMR-stak for instance.
