261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alpha Technology Litecoin (Scrypt) ASIC Miner Order Batch 1 Now! on: July 03, 2014, 05:57:20 PM
The market cap of LTC isnt a good determination of if new equipment is a good idea or not. Folks were mining BTC with GPU's and CPU's when it wasn't worth anything. It may impact ROI, but that's just a may which is short-term, and even then the gold-strikers have to risk something.

True, but the times were different. We have new alts (e.g. anonymous ones in DRK, XMR, etc.) that are taking market share and not to mention it has become a downward moving market. That said, this area is still just getting started and I wouldn't be shocked to see LTC go back down to .0035-.007 or so and then recover later. At that point though and with a high difficulty, mining would make little sense, but buying would. I would probably get back in some down there.

I think the price is very artificial right now, and there have been some unusual dumps too. It can be taken any which way, but my gut says people are trying to keep it low right now to buy it up. Because fairly soon, the difficulty is going to go up a notch. And then when KNC delivers it's going to blow off the charts.

talk about denial, can you read a basic chart?

http://coinmarketcap.com/ltc_180.html
Denial - Myopic
take your pick - feels like I've been here before though

Seriously it's a shame its come to this. - I'd be interested to see how many UK miners were caught by alpha.
When I put this option to a selection of interested friends months ago no one wanted to touch it - We are pretty local to that part of the world and it just didn't feel right.

Anyway best of luck to you who took a punt.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Fast High Reward PoS - Advanced Wallet - Fun Community. V1.4 on: July 02, 2014, 07:06:33 PM
so whats better now HBN or CAP ?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think they compliment each other. They both have different strengths and weaknesses. But I am interested in other people's opinion as well..
One calculation I made is:
CAP: 7500, 200% rate
HBN: 15000 (well much less presently), 100% rate => twice the price, half the rate => four times less interesting.
HBN should be at 3750 (and TEK at ~ 35000) with this calculation to be on par

Now, my reasoning is certainly incomplete (user adoption, network solidity, naming, features, dev support... all that counts too) and maybe even flat-out wrong, but that's a start.

Certainly an interesting question and it really is different things to different people.

If you do your calcs again and this time incorporate supply and demand the outcomes flip quite dramatically for HBN and TEK
but psychology plays a part - is 40% a month enough to mitigate risk on market volatility?
Is 30 days too long to wait?

HBN and CAP are very similar by block time/POW reward but different enough in POS to really shine a light on some ongoing arguments without being
too extreme in contrast.

I'd love to get an "investors demographic" (is there a correct term fr that?) for these coins to see how people are thinking and playing it out.
(no I don't believe much of what is posted here about peoples "positions")

I hold / trade all three but my gut tells me TEK will implode eventually and HBN will come out on top in the long run (tortoise vs hare)
CAPs n HBN may fight it out or complement .. I honestly have no opinion on that. It will probably be down to preferences and marketing.
Merged mining got my attention

But I don't think any of that strongly enough to reshuffle my baskets of eggs..

How do you guys get 50 peers? I normally get between 13-16. It makes me wonder if something is wrong...
I think it depends on a number of things but one I have noticed consistently is a wireless LAN link is usually up to 16
but a hard wired LAN (Same network dhcp hub firewall etc) get up to 63 (that I've noticed)

I wish it was somewhere other than cryptsy only..I want to buy but cannot because I can't get into my old cryptsy account and also I can't create another one on the same i.p zzzzzzzzzzz Cry I have 199 that I got in wallet but wanted to buy few more. Are there any projects on making TEK coin a  spendable coin as well for merchants etc? Smiley

HBN CAPs T3K PHS all working nicely up the rankings this week

Having said all that I haven't used the exchange yet - I will when one of these gets listed -
So I'm not vouching for it or advertising beyond the need for these coins to be on multiple exchanges

266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - Version 1.4. Stake For Charity. on: June 25, 2014, 11:13:18 PM
I have added an additional 1000 coins to each of the wallets I use for stake for charity listed on the charity page on hobonickels.info http://hobonickels.info/donate.php

There are now 2,000 each in those wallets and 50% of all stakes are going to those addresses. I will be adding more in the future as well.

Want to be part?  Let us know!

We are looking for "real" charities, or someone who will run service for HBN. Some restrictions do apply.  Please feel free to write here or PM me.

Thanks!
"Some restrictions do apply"

Could you elaborate?

Basically if it is not a true charity, or that service you are giving for HBN is not a true service. Like simply mining, or just liking on facebook, ect. Then I don't think there will be a place on the website. Also anything that has fee for service, such a pool, really aren't eligible either.

But otherwise everyone is encouraged to apply.

OK, yes I completely agree with those points. I'd expect no less than a charity be properly registered as such in its legal jurisdiction etc.
I probably read too much into your comment but your also raise important points about what constitutes a service to HBN. Mining and social media awareness are important but not really game changers.

"1 coin staked for 1 year would compound to 5'500 coins by the end of the year"

1.00000000 + 40% = 1.40000000
1.40000000 + 40% = 1.96000000
1.96000000 + 40% = 2.74400000
2.74400000 + 40% = 3.81460000
3.81460000 + 40% = 5.37824000
5.37824000 + 40% = 7.52953600
7.52953600 + 40% = 10.54135040
10.54135040 + 40% = 14.75789056
14.75789056 + 40% = 20.66104678
20.66104678 + 40% = 28.92546549
28.92546549 + 40% = 40.49565169
40.49565169 + 40% = 56.69391237

"SuperStake eligible in 30+ days 40%+/-"

Stop using +/- it implies one can actualy lose 40% coins, use wording like "around 40%" so "SuperStake eligible in 30+ days is around 40%"

"100 million coins overall"

Not true, it was said few times by now 100M (it is actualy 99,999,999.99999999) is limit per one transaction.

Calm down, article was sent off before we were noted about these. Ill get to changing them. Also the super stake quote was obtained from the OP. I will get to correcting them

Yeah armin i mean jeeez what were you thinking that's why we have this little fella ~40%  Wink

To be honest I think most people would read it as intended 40% +/- scan very differently to +/- 40%

I read it twice and didn't baulk at your numbers but the words "ridiculously high" did make me wince.

Ridiculous - Ludicrous - Absurd - Silly - Outlandish - Outrageous - Bizarre -Unreasonable

How about

Impressive - Inspiring - Striking - Remarkable - Notable - Extraordinary - Exciting

Instead?
Now I feel like than newspaper guy in House of Cards - strange territory as my language skills suck.

Nice article though - spreading the word.

Tar n feather is soo tempting, an interesting addition in the crypto world me thinks.

Good to see HBN working it's way up the www.allcoin.com/vote vote list - No. 12 now
Leapfrogging many other coins in the last few days and not a satoshi spent - all good user votes.
271  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.0 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: June 20, 2014, 11:42:44 PM
I'll support the coin as long as I deem it profitable to mine.

I have no altruistic intentions.

that said - "what is good for the coin?" - to allow it to languish at 1 satoshi like so many other coins or and have people like me mine it and do everything I can do to drive up it's value...

that's my opinion...

Mining for profit is not supporting the coin, it's purely for your own enterprise.
That is fine, miners are needed and very welcome but it also diminishes any opinion you have on a community thread.
People who are prepared to put in real time & effort to assist other users with issues and promote adoption and services don't want to hear about you blaming
everyone but yourself for your own lack of due diligence.

Treat you mining enterprise like the business it should be, its dog eat dog and your choices are your own.

If you want to bash the dev team for real coding and wallet issues go ahead, you'll be a while waiting for a problem that these guys don't get on top of before you have finished typing your complaint.

Out of interest, can you give an example of  "do everything I can do to drive up it's value"
Sounds like you were trying to do everything you could to dump hard on a fake pump and never look back.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.0 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: June 20, 2014, 06:48:57 PM
Phew. That lot sounds like a not much research ... ooooh  butt hurt situation.

Tranz is navigating this coin through a recovery from near oblivion, it's risky but people have voted with their BTC in support of his efforts.
And people who have taken a moment to think it through obviously think its worth the risk to support it.

In other news my wallets are working ship shape after above posted advice on this thread and I'm looking forward to the tranzition on the 4th
to the new chain, may it work flawlessly or get a dose of community support to nudge it along ... but please no more
WORDS

I love mining this coin - it's my my best interest to put my money where my miners are - simple as that. They told me at Mintpal they don't take 'bribes' ...er... I mean Donations.

trust me - it's cost me more than 1 btc in lost revenue if I could have sold for 10,000 instead of sitting and playing with myself as I waited for big jerk off vern and his merry band of dysfuncional programmers to get off their asses.

I told a friend of mine we'd see 6,000 or close to it when the dump came after they got the wallet working and now we'have to wait a few weeks before things return to normal and there's no guarantee BTC will still be at 600 when the value of CAP recovers from the dump

If the deposits hadn't gone down the price would not have spiked the only people losing out there are buying on a coin that cant be deposited
and miners blindly following coinwarz etc.
First thing I looked at when price started moving again was can I deposit ? No .. right then i'm not mining it OR buying it because the price is unreliable.
Cryptsy should really suspend trading when this happens because it has knock on effects for difficulty when there is only one exchange to compare. and
the auto exchange feature is probably backed up with all those hopeful souls keen to dump the minings
I cant accuse anyone of taking advantage but I wasn't born yesterday either.. So I call myself out of the fray until it looks like I'm playing a fair game again.

If you had significant deposit on cryptsy that price would not have happened you only think you saw something happen - it was never really an opportunity in my view, just numbers.

In short I agree with you but you walked right into it and shouldnt be complaining in this thread about those issues.
The coin is starting to go somewhere again.
Are you a supporter or a profiteer?

Hi guys. I added a small update to github tonight. There was an issue with staking and it wasn't working on 2.0 I have corrected this error:

https://github.com/Tranz5/bottlecaps/commit/9409ca831c63763b34cd46b6736a3c2aa636bead

For you self compilers that want to stake, use this release.

I will be officially releasing this, plus more sync issues fixes here tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for all your patients on this, hard forks can be a bit frustrating sometimes. But this time next month I think the network will be very secure and staking away!

Hey, it says experimental on the tin and I think we are all just enjoying your outputs.

anyone tried to send mined coins it to crypsy lately ?

is it safe that they arrive with the incoming fork now ?
Cannot currently create an address at Cryptsy - you just get a notice about wallet downtime.
I'd hold off until service resumes and we can see whats what
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bottlecaps 2.0 UPDATE REQUIRED - HARDFORK JULY 4 2014 to 200% Annual PoS on: June 18, 2014, 07:36:17 PM
Getting no joy whatsoever at the minute.
2.0.0.1 won't connect to anything. Tried all the suggestions BottleCaps.conf   DB_CONF (this did remove the db issue but client still would not find correct chain) .

decided to start from scratch (inc new wallet on one machine) with 2.0.0.1 and still no luck
Getting a lot of partner 192.99.xxx.xxx:7685 using an old client 70001, disconnecting on one machine

another machine (with a known good wallet) gets to block 86000 and throws Error:fetching inputs() .. a restart results in zero connections.

now no connections after 30 minutes on either machine.

Currently attempting patience, always a good last resort, but I'm not sure it's getting me anywhere.

I think something well and truly screwed the pooch.... I'm admitting to nothing :/

*Edit - still voting at allcoin,

I encounter the same problem in case of a completely clean install:
V2.0.0.0 finds connections but puts you on the old fork.
V2.0.0.1 seems to find 1 connection and loses it again.

I solved it by starting V2.0.0.1 from the command prompt once using 8 known good connects as switches:

BottleCaps-qt.exe -connect=178.238.45.216:7685 -connect=87.106.246.28:7685 -connect=66.172.12.153:7685 -connect=84.200.17.181:7685 -connect=192.99.13.205:7685 -connect=202.60.68.65:768 -connect=72.78.100.7:7685 -connect=37.59.48.89:7685

Maybe yo can give it a try like this.

Right good call - looks like that was spot on.
I had tried the connects in the conf file without joy but a .bat with your suggestion seems to have done the trick. (user error on the .conf most likely)

Don't know why I didn't try that as I run all my coin from USB to make them portable sticks and I have batches to start each wallet.
