261  Economy / Economics / Re: The price of BTC needs to come down on: June 14, 2011, 02:13:42 AM
The problem with BitCoin is that there is nothing substantive backing the economy, which gives speculators zero incentive to keep prices stable (which is the point of speculation). Speculators in the BTC economy are simpy trying to inflate the currency to make money quick, and sell the profits on MtGOX, there's nothing to be gained but the USD/BTC exchange rate. Until there's more services offered that cater to the speciality of BitCoin (Silk Road, selling online accounts/game currencies, things that require anonymity/decentralization) we're just going to see endless rises in the value, and then crashes as people sell off their coins.

First things first. There needs to be more bitcoin in the market to provide liquidity. Stable prices will build confidence and acceptance. Needs more time but it will happen if gov doesn't steam roll it.

More liquidity would just make speculation more outrageous; the economy needs to keep BTC in the virtual economy, instead of being a way to double your money in a short period of time. More liquidity won't help anything until BTC has an inherent value.

Wrongo friend. More liquidity would mean that the market would more easily absorb large selling without watching the price fall 60%. It certainly would not make it easy to double your money in a short period of time. But it doesn't mean you can't either.

And BTC already has inherent value. It's value needs to be recognized; big difference.

Slush, you rock! thanks for all the hard work. Back up and running on the pool!

...and now we are down again...bummer

Is your IP whitelisted? Are you pointing your miner to api.bitcoin.cz?

I'm still up and running.
263  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (1.5Thash/s) on: June 14, 2011, 01:51:39 AM
Btw pool is in good condition now, feel free to connect.
Yes, i noticed all miners automatically connected and stopped throwing timeouts.
I assume that means mining2.bitcoin.cz will no longer be in use?

It would be best to use: api.bitcoin.cz

I'm doing partial mining as well.
I game a lot less now that it's actually costing me money to game instead of mining  Undecided

Fire up the Xbox.....LOL!
266  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: "Connection problems" ?? on: June 13, 2011, 05:31:29 PM
Yeah there seems to be some DDOS going on or something.
For slushs pool you could try mining2.bitcoin.cz  Undecided

Didn't know about the other address. Wish I would have. Started mining at the Guild and have been at it for about 5 1/2 hours and only have .5 bitcoin. That's terrible compared to how I was performing on slush's pool? Why the big difference I wonder?
267  Economy / Economics / Re: The price of BTC needs to come down on: June 13, 2011, 05:14:17 PM
We don't need more time, we need more people.  We need consumers.

Vendors accepting bitcoin would be the floodgate....
268  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Podcasters Needed on: June 13, 2011, 05:06:40 PM
I do like "The Block Chain" but "The Chain Gang" comes to mind as well......

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

LOL! I wondered that as well so threw it out to the board. I was thinking in terms of the community, "the gang" involved with the block chains but of course it's not the first thing that comes to mind is it?
269  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (1.5Thash/s) on: June 13, 2011, 02:18:32 PM
both mining.bitcoin.cz & mining2.bitcoin.cz not working in miner.
both works for website.

Besides it seems only some ip's get this problem.
I connect from my ISP directly to slush in one system & in another through vpn. the vpn gives me an US address & miner is working fine.

I couldn't connect either. Too dam bad, looks like I was down for some time before I woke up and realized it. Of course the site comes up just as I'm leaving the house and switched all my workers over to the Guild. Can't change it now. We'll see how it goes.

Perhaps we need a seperate forum for slush's pool where communication can happen that won't affect production?
270  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: At what point is it not worth it? Are these rates for Slush's pool normal? on: June 13, 2011, 02:13:42 PM
Well I'm on BTC Guild right now after slush's pool went down but I don't see any difference in my hash rate.

Watching my total rewards now over the last two hours leaves me wanting. I'll give it the rest of the day but I'll most likely end up switching back to slush's pool.
271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: June 13, 2011, 04:25:57 AM
I have been mining on a 5850, getting around 285MHps, just added a 6990 for $730AUD (~$770USD), so now im over or around 1GHps.

When this card pays itself off I'll buy another, and continue to reinvest all profits into mining, until either:
A. its no longer profitable, in which case I can sell the hardware at a profit on ebay (except for keeping a kick-ass gaming rig for me);
B. I make enough per day to live confortably off of mining

We shall see...

Don't quit your day job. This sucker has an expiration date on mining. Or hold your coins and pray for $1,500 BTC. Congrats on getting the 6990, seem to be hiding under very large rocks state side.

Slush really needs to implement the following two features:

1. Login/my account under HTTPS.

2. Twenty-four hour payout lock when wallet address changes.

Not running login over https is pretty dang bad. The 24 hour payout lock would certainly be nice.

True.

There are certainly people preying on his site. My account was broken into but it was my own fault..... Noob mistake but the predators are out there. Kinda sad really. You have high hopes for Bitcoin but the criminal mind is relentless and ever present. May their armpits be infested with the fleas from a thousand camels!!!

How did it happen to you out of curiosity. The reason I'm asking is I'd like to know whether this is my screwup somehow or if it's slush's fault.

Well as you say you were not stupid enough to use the same password for your worker, I was. I'm man enough to admit it  Undecided

I was in  a hurry and excited to get starterd. It had nothing to do with slush. The net has really made the criminal bold. They see it as a "well if your that dumb" mistake you deserve to be stolen from. But blaming stupidity for criminal justification doesn't improve the morality of it. I'd like the dweeb who did it try and come to my house and steal from me.

I'm a newbie, started out about two weeks ago and finally registered for this forum.

I have 2-5830s (an xfx and a sapphire) , and 2-5570s

I can't get the 5830's over 255mh/s, but I've been using the AMD overclocking built in to Catalyst.  I'll have to follow everyone else's lead on underclocking the memory to get it higher.

The 5770's are doing 195mh/s each

I can't get my 5830's over 210 come hell or high water. I tried the Trixx Utility but my system froze up. Maybe I need to up the voltage....?

thinking about mining, but it looks like all 6990 cards are sold out.

So don't start out with 6990's. Start out with a couple 5830's and move up from there. Not many are starting with 6990's.

I just spent the last of my USD networth on building a rig, 50/50 split with my dad, after I explained him the concept. I have all of my funds currently in bitcoin, and none in US Bank Notes. I sleep a LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT T better at night.

I hope you're joking. Nothing wrong with investing but putting all your eggs into one basket is never a good idea. I guess you might you live with your parents; it wouldn't matter much though then.

He bought 3 5850's with his loot. What do you think he was going to do with that? Earn 8% toward his retirement? I think he's done a good thing in taking the capital and trying to enlarge it. If he loses out, he's young. A long life of work awaits him.

Ok, fuck this I'm moving somewhere else..it happened again right after I changed the password to the account. This time the address was changed to:

176LRX4WRWD5LWDMbhr94ptb2MW9varCZP

http://blockexplorer.com/address/176LRX4WRWD5LWDMbhr94ptb2MW9varCZP

AND the payout was reset back to 1.

Is your password for the site the same as the password for your registered worker?

We've got a cast; now we need a name.  Please vote in the poll at the top of this thread.  Also feel free to post your own name suggestions.  Thanks.

I do like "The Block Chain" but "The Chain Gang" comes to mind as well......
