264  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [40+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: April 30, 2016, 06:46:36 PM

I have noticed that in the last 12 days that my payout at every 2 days is now always 0.0079xxxx, before that it was ALWAYS 0.009xxxxx.

I am running at about 17.6TH.

Please elaborate, those numbers make absolutely zero sense. 100% luck you should be making ~0.09856 every two days, down from ~0.11264 every 2 days due to difficulty change on Apr 14.

I will have to answer that question in detail later as 6 of my miners (6Th) went offline and i have only turned them back on about 1.5 hours ago.

BUT usually when i connect back to the pool the scoring hashrate usually matches the miners hashrate BUT they are ALL but one running at 0.16 Huh? I have not altered ANY details !!!!!

One of the miners is showing a scoring hashrate of over 6Th Huh? The machines are all 1Th.......

NEVER  came across this before.....

The scoring hashrate on the main dashboard is correct (17.5Th) BUT the individual miner hashrate is not ??

Any ideas ??
Sounds like those 6 miners are all pointed to the same worker name.
265  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How much will I make mining? on: April 17, 2016, 06:36:59 PM
New to bitcoin.
Atm opened up in my area, can finally buy & sell bitcoins for cash with ease.
Have $5,000 USD to invest.
I pay 11.16 (cents)/kWh
Must be indoors, will be putting in a 15 x 10 room with one window. Will be next to my office.

Need a straight up ball park estimate in USD.

What would you buy, how much would you say I could make monthly? (Rough estimate)

Any Ideas?

Welcome!
As much as I hate to discourage someone new to the hobby, at your power prices, you will not see a return on your investment unless the price of BTC skyrockets. You are better off waiting a few months for the next gen miners to come out.

With the current miners at the current reward and difficulty, it would take you more than 1 year to get to breakeven on your equipment. With the halving coming up in a few months, the block reward will cut to 12.5BTC. At which point you would spend more on electricity than you could bring in from mining.

If you still want to get into it for a hobby, I would recommend starting slowly with just one current gen miner and PSU. Then, if you still want to, jump in with both feet when the new miners come out.

Find a good pool to use. I use Kano.is. Great pool with great luck (currently at 108% lifetime), low fees, a very supportive mining community, and one of the most knowledgeable pool operators out there. Their thread is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.0

Mario has thrown up a rental today in hopes of getting us through this round. I know we have other users wanting to do so as well. With over 700 registered users now, I sure hope this round ends, so all those people can hop on and start mining here!  Grin
Hopefully they will all see fit to slide a TH or two this way, so we could crack this block!
268  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Thinking of switching to Kano on: April 06, 2016, 07:16:27 PM
I have now switched my four workers to Kano. A church mouse has more money than me and I like helping the good little guy.

Only been running a short while now. Here is the output:

{"hashrate1m": "3.77T", "hashrate5m": "3.15T", "hashrate1hr": "1.02T", "hashrate1d": "57.9G", "hashrate7d": "8.38G", "lastupdate": 1459951211, "workers": 4, "shares": 1184138, "bestshare": 2104921.4498286}

Not much in the way of web page formatting but it works, right? LOL

Now, I have to learn how to understand the website.
What is the last block info telling me?

Are you sure you are mining at Kano.is? These stats look more like the solo.ckpool.org page stats.
269  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [40+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: April 02, 2016, 06:52:41 PM
The only thing more awesome than those two fat blocks in 5mins breaking the bad streak is sitting and waiting for the conspiracy theories and people screaming "Switch pools! Even though they're statistically identical pool x is somehow superior!" every time slush goes >20hrs without a block. Welcome to pool mining people.
I used to feel the same way. Until the 30 day luck stayed around 85% for about 3 months. While not impossible, it is improbable.

If you to look at it solely based on math. Slush keeps 2% in fees and the transaction fees, while Kano only keeps .9%. Even if both pools were at 100% luck (which they aren't) Kano is the better place to mine.
270  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [40+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: April 02, 2016, 06:39:05 PM
should not go on antpool that takes many blocks?  why go to Kano?

They may mine more blocks, but your share is going to be much, much smaller.

Antpool has historical luck at 100%, while Kano is at 107.41% all time.

Antpool claims to pay 25 BTC, but keeps the transaction fees. Kano takes >1% and gives the miners the transaction fees. The average block payout since I joined is 25.15 BTC.

That is just one of the reasons why those of us who are at Kano are such fans. I mined at Slush for over 2 years and ran when the 30 day luck hovered around 85% for 3 months. And where is it now? Right at 85% again. Not to mention the block withholding attack that went on for months. Or the orphan fiasco last year, that went on way too long. Slush almost never responds to his miners.

Do you own math and research. But there is a reason so many people recommend Kano

some one else throw a rental and help us crack this block!

I spent most of my bitcoin on a new s7, because of the coupon bitmain sent out yesterday. I'll point some more hash here when it arrives.
273  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Latest Avalon6 group buy thread. 600 usd Ends Monday 28th on: March 26, 2016, 11:22:35 PM
I also received a message that there will be $115 coupons distributed on 4/1/16 if you bought S7's during a certain period or to be used instead of S5 redemption on Hashnest. This would make the gap even bigger.

Gonna be a struggle for me to choose, because on one hand I really dislike Bitmain, but that price is hard to beat.

and there is the problem that I think most of us are facing. we don't really want to support bitmain but they make it hard to buy anything else as they price the competition out of the market.

My question is why the sudden generosity from bitmain. They have always been stingy in the past with discounts unless you buy in the pallet load. are the ones their are currently selling from their farms and they are trying to use these coupons to move them faster?

I hate myself for it but I know ill get another s7 as that price cant be beat but Ill still look around for an single Avalon. I know holy has some.

I'm with you on that. I was all set to join in this group buy, but the new price with coupon for the s7 is just too hard to pass up.

It also made me suspicious that they put batch 15 on their website before batch 14 was even due to ship out.

A couple of updates regarding the growth of the pool:

All of February we had 4,412 page views, 22% coming from new visitors.
To date in march we have had 4,835 page views, with 23% coming from new visitors and now we are closing in on the 500 registered users mark (should happen in the next day or so).

We appreciate all your support, and hope to see even bigger growth to come!
I have a few s3+ machines. I will power them back up and mine them here for now. I was going to sell them on eBay, since they are just aren't profitable with power @ 8.8 cents/kwh in my area. Not much, but I'd like to help you guys grow.

I have also switched my failover pool on my s5 & s7's to here instead of Slush.
275  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [40+ PH] SlushPool (slushpool.com); World's First Mining Pool on: March 16, 2016, 07:39:51 PM
Slush pool shows 4 blocks in the reward history currently processing.
But on the dashboard there are only 3 blocks. Any hints
Probably because Block# 26314 was an orphan
276  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [35 PH] ** 5x AVALON6 GIVEAWAY ** Kano CKPool (kano.is) [0.9% PPLNS] US,DE,SG on: March 14, 2016, 11:22:49 PM
Remember when there was an anomalous miner on slush's pool, he allowed 10PH of worthless mining for over a month and kept paying them for it and then proudly announced he had developed 'provably fair mining' to prevent it ever happening again, but had already been paying 10Ph worth of payouts to them for a month, and never returned the rewards paid to that miner to compensate the rest of the miners. Let's just say we don't want to see that happening here before you complain about a block payout being delayed.

I agree! let Kano do what he does
That is REALLY ff'ed up, 10PH for a month.

That, combined with a total lack of communication from "The Captain", was the final straw for me at slush. I had been mining there since January 2014.

I joined kano.is about 3 weeks ago and haven't looked back.  I really appreciate the constant communication and updates Kano and -ck provide.

I missed this.  I do recall hearing about some extraordinary bad luck at slush not that long ago so I am guessing this is the same thing.  So was it a block withholding attack or did someone figure out another way to game the pool?
Quoting Slush's facebook post on Feb 6. about it:
"Dear miners, we would like to inform you that we have detected and resolved an unintentional block withholding

The issue has been discovered a week ago and we have immediately taken an action by contacting the particular miner. The cause turned out to be a bug in a custom mining firmware, which has been promptly fixed by the miner. We have no indication that there was any bad intention. The fixed firmware solved two blocks since then so we can consider this issue as resolved.

A recent time period of worse luck can be at least partly attributed to this incident.

Block withholding attack is a well-known weakness of the whole pool mining principle and no public pool is immune against it.

As a by-product of the bad luck investigation, we have implemented a new method how to mathematically prove that the pool does not cheat on miners. This feature will be released after the public interface has been tweaked. The release is planned towards the end of next week."
End Quote

He said it was a week, but people had been asking about poor luck at the pool since early December. The end result was that the miner did not repay the pool, and the "bad luck" still to continued. With no further comment from him on it. The only "news" was the pool's new interface.

I've sat through bad luck streaks before and kept silent, cuz hey, they happen. I worked in the casino business for 20 years. But with no answers/comments coming from slush and combine it with orphan block debacle that seemed to just drag on, I started looking for a new place to mine.

I landed here at Kano.is and have been very happy with the transparency of the pool operator and the community overall.
