261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin Cash - hold or dump? on: September 03, 2017, 10:35:08 AM
I dumped mine when they were at $800 each one in aug 2nd. I think that was a fair price, they were at 0.18 - 0.20 each one.
I think i did a good move, i dont recommend holding it, since it is more a speculation coin and it is soo useless, it doesnt have any feature that could make the price go up.
Those who wanna sell, wait until it reaches $750 each coin and dump them and use that money for buying altcoins, that is a good investment

I don't think it's a good move, I think it's a perfect move.

BCC will have its value in the future for sure if managed correctly, but the fact that you choose a good time to dump it during the heavy pumping shows smartness.
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Latest development from SEC, Americans can now buy ICOs? on: September 03, 2017, 08:27:51 AM
It is the same as before, if it's not a security, they don't care.

How do we define "security" really?
263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Neo wallet on: September 03, 2017, 07:33:17 AM
Did it take a long time for you to confirm? It took me quite a long while to actually confirm it on Neon, a few hours at least.
264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] BANKERA - the Bank for the Blockchain Era on: September 03, 2017, 06:41:15 AM
Hi bankera team,

Your website looks great, and the concept is interesting. The fact that you have been running an exchange for years also spell our your ability.

I am worried though about the comments I see in this forum. No human is perfect so it's better to come out and speak candidly, maybe you will lose some support, and you'll gain some. Staying in the dark will only affect your ICO and reputation in the upcoming days.

I look forward to an answer and hopefully for us all to restore faith in Bankera.
265  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: TREZOR Hardware wallets? on: September 02, 2017, 07:23:56 PM
Has anyone moved to the new Segwit2X account and how was the impression.
FYI: There is no 2X. It's only Segwit.
Thanks, my bad Smiley

Another thing: Whenever you are done using Trezor, how do you unplug it? Just pulling it, or is there a more proper aka refined way?
You can just unplug it and you will be fine. Or if you are using a public PC and don't want your Trezor device to appear in the list after leaving, you can "log out" of TREZOR Wallet by selecting your TREZOR device on the left panel and pressing Forget device.

Thanks again

Actually I am wondering about another thing, just in case you have the answers.  What happens if you lose the seed but still remember the pin, can you check your original seed somewhere?
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Latest development from SEC, Americans can now buy ICOs? on: September 02, 2017, 07:18:10 PM
Does that mean that ICO is not prohibited by SEC now?

267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What do you think about Monaco's latest app? on: September 02, 2017, 12:13:51 PM
While it doesn't really offer anything, rather than just a queue line, the UX looks really neat!

Has anyone tried using the app and card? And can we do much without their MCO tokens?

I sold mine at $800 over the weekend. I mean it has to crash soon right? Coins created out of thin air and already 2nd most valuable crypto. I can't believe this is sustainable in the short term.

While I am not a big fan of BCC, there are powerful forces behind it.

The hash rate of BCC reached ~20% at one point last week (not sure about this week) which means that big mining pools are supporting it most likely Chinese pools, and also the recent crazy purchases on Bithumb using Korean Won. A powerful group is in the making. Don't expect BCC to disappear soon.

I wasn't paying attention to the hashrate distribution between BTC and BCH, but I did notice that the BTC hashrate dropped in half from its recent peak. That's a pretty massive drop; larger than anything I can find in the recent charts. So it's clear that BCH had some effect on miners. Long term, it's tough to say what will happen. We really can't predict future demand for BCH. I agree, there are powerful forces behind it, so in my mind, it's worth holding for a while to see where this goes.

The pump lasted from Thursday last week till early this week, with most of the buyers using Korean Won for the purchase. Rumours says that there is going to be an governmental level uptake on BCC. And Antpool go crazy mining it last weekend (it was Antpool iirc).

Things are just starting. I dumped all mine during last weekend's crazy rally. Now I think if I should buy back some after the pump subsides.

271  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin Tax heaven. on: August 27, 2017, 09:11:24 AM
Someone owns cryptocurencies since long time ago, been exchanging them one to another via shapeshift and other anonymous exanges, never sold them for fiat yet. Value of portfolio dramatically increased.  At one day he decides to move some part of capital into other assets, like real estate, stocks, or create a business. He is free to move anywhere around the world and/or change  tax residency.

What would be the best strategy for him?

PS. He is libertarian minded and wishes to prevent terrorism financing (invest in state violence via taxation scheme).

Come to Germany or Austria, we pay an awful lot of taxes but not for Bitcoin holdings that have been kept for longer than a year Wink

Bad news is you'd have to relocate and obtain citizenship.

The good news is the beer is good.

It can actually be hard to prove that you have owned the coins for more than a year. The "Finanzamt" (the German
equivalent to the IRS) may want to know where you got all your bitcoins initially. With the disappearance of
several major exchanges like BTC-E or Mtgox not every user still has a way to prove where they bought
their BTC. If you obtained your Bitcoins from even more questionable places than these extinct exchanges
this could get even more difficult.

Do you have any workaround for this problem?

Of course you have an easy time, if you bought your BTC on a still existing exchange and can therefore
easily prove that you hold them for more than a year.

That's good thinking. How does the Finanzamat actually track ownership period? Has anyone been taxed already if you own less than a year? Or they are really trying to manage the big whales? aka exchanges and people with 10000 BTCs? I'd expect it to be pretty pretty hard to track a someone with 10 BTCs.
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Neo wallet on: August 25, 2017, 04:16:54 AM
As an OSX user the best is probably Neon which gets a semi formal from the Neo team, since Neo's website does refer to CityOfZion which is the developer of Neon.

The rest of the online wallet, unless specified to be trustworthy by the Neo team, I am not 100% sure we should put our savings there.
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Cash should be considered as cheap atm? on: August 18, 2017, 02:00:45 PM
It's the Koreans that's pumping up all the transaction, and we do know that Bitcoin Cash has quite a bit of Chinese and Korean exchange supporting it before the fork. coinmarketcap exchange for BCH is ~45% in Korean Won.

Can someone in Korea or understand Korean confirm what's going on there?
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BCC transaction.. 0 confirm till now.. it's been more then an hour. on: August 18, 2017, 01:57:23 PM
hey ppl,

how many confirmations does it take to confirm, I am on 8th confirmation but my exchange on Kraken is still not showing.
275  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: best exchange to sell 10 BTC on: August 17, 2017, 05:22:08 AM
If you are in a legitimate situation and have a bank account, you probably want kraken.com (supports bank wires, insignificant fees). Note that for the kind of volumes that you mention, the bank will report you to IRS, who might take interest in you.
If you want cash and anonymity, you probably want localbitcoins.com or the marketplace that is included in Mycelium.
Another way to spend this BTC would be to use some of the numerous credit card options - some are anomymous

I can only be anonymous if I take cash (or cash card type) through localbitcoins, else it would still be a bank transfer so the IRS issue is not solved. I'd feel safer it it's wired than to receive 10 BTC worth of cash.
276  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: best exchange to sell 10 BTC on: August 17, 2017, 02:23:45 AM
Due to some urgent needs, I need to take profit from ~10 BTCs for USD. Not right away but probably in a week or two. Am not a big timer, so 10 BTC is quite alot for me. Wink

Can anyone suggest which major exchange offers the best rates? It's easy to look at coinmarketcap but I gather there might be hidden charges - withdrawal fees, spread etc, bank charges even. I am already on Kraken if it's worth knowing but am good to go at any trusted exchanges.

For those of you active traders, advice highly appreciated Smiley

Use LocalBitcoins, friend! That is the place you can sell very quickly your 10 Bitcoins without needing Identification or SMS verification - 100% anonymous. They will deposit directly to your bank. That is my recommendation to you.
Most of the users here have suggested localbitcoins, because of the legitimate and flawless service rendered around most of the localities. Another important thing is that localbitcoins is one among the five recognized platform for trading. Right now rather than selling its good to keep hold of the bitcoins. This gives assured profit as price keeps growing continuously.

Thanks Kenny.

Yes, right now I rather hold than sell but these are special circumstances.

Another reason I am not fully comfortable (or acclimatize rather) with LBC is that if I sell in say 0.5 btc each I will have 20 trades, would my bank feel weird that I am getting all these transaction this month when normally the account is pretty dormant. My bank is in Singapore fwiw in SGD and USD currency.
277  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: best exchange to sell 10 BTC on: August 17, 2017, 01:42:48 AM
Thanks guys for all the wonderful suggestions Smiley

Suggestion to use Bitstamp or Kraken the most, or maybe even bittrex. My Kraken account is already verified so that's a good start, but I am good to verify with new exchanges it usually take a few days but I can wait (just hope prices doesn't fall, unlikely though lol)

Arbitrage for bitcoins won't be alot but 1% saved will be 400USD so that's still alot of money to me. Someone also suggested Gemini, and they seem to have good rates on coinmarketcap but I have heard little about them, maybe it's just me.

I can spread the 10 BTCs into 10 or more trades to avoid a big trade if needed, trades can be executed for a few days. Unless there's a reason to do a big trade (save on fees?)

Localbitcoins have inferior price to buyer, you pay more as a buyer, so does that mean you get more as a seller? I've purchased before on localbitcoins and I get charged slightly higher than exchanges, though it might be just be me in local currencies.

Thanks again.

278  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading sucks, I'll just hold my coins on: August 16, 2017, 03:05:02 PM
for all altcoins : i have got a successful strategy regarding this is placing very low buy orders. About a week ago a crazy dump occurred, selling off xxxx  coin down to 25% of its value! After a short while the market recovered slightly and anyone who had low buy these low orders could easily double or triple their investment. Placing buy orders requires special care, don’t wake up when you’re far away from the market to find your buy order is suddenly higher than the current market price!

That's a very interesting suggestion. Do you think it works if we actually put orders for a dozens of coins, say at 15% lower at start of each day, so if it gets filled it gets filled. If not drop the order and repeat at 15% lower market rate the next day, you catch what you can?
279  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading sucks, I'll just hold my coins on: August 16, 2017, 03:02:03 PM
Everyone on youtube is bumping coins they have shares in, I've stopped watching those videos long ago.

To the OP: I hear you man, can't invest anything you're not willing to lose. At the end of the day investing is gambling.

The celebrity cryto youtubers have vested interest in the coins they are given as gift  <---I strongly suspect so.
