2601  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) - thread on: September 14, 2018, 06:10:01 PM
Maybe there should be some sort of special archive or a sub board of Archive for truly memorable/classic threads that deserve a place in bitcointalk history. One like this and the laszlo pizza thread probably should be locked as they just get bumped from time to time and are then inevitably filled with crap from sig spammers. The community could vote on which ones are worthy or not, but it is kinda of pointless leaving them open, especially when they just get filled with rubbish from spammers looking for another thread to shit in to meet their quota.

2603  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a "free services" section somewhere? on: September 14, 2018, 11:07:00 AM
Just to move all those Twitter audit, free followers and Acceleration services at one place?
I know that if there are no money related services should be in the Off-topic but they appear in Services, B&H, Marketplace/ Altcoin-Marketplace, even in the Bounty sections I guess in other places too.
It's just a mess,so let's just put them together somewhere so people who are interested in such services to easily find them and the rest can just browse what they are looking for without being distracted.

Any solutions??

We have a section for them: It's called the trashcan. Any service that doesn't require a bitcoin payment doesn't belong in the Marketplace, nor do they go in Off topic. Anyone posting twitter re-audits don't belong there either because they're just spam fests that nine times out of ten require you to follow the person and post your username. Pure spam. Report them.
2604  Other / Meta / Re: Vote for new moderators who deserve it. @theymos please take a look. on: September 14, 2018, 10:54:34 AM
After searching moderators on each board, I found out Xal0lex is a moderator of the russian board and he/she becomes a Sr. Member last august 12.

So it's really possible for theyoungmillionaire to be a moderator also of our Local board(Philippines) deym.

I became a mod at Senior I think, and rank isn't that relevant, but the longer you've been here the better, especially if you're very, very active but the number of reports you're making should be the biggest factor. The Philippines board already has two mods and Rickbig is very active here so not sure if it desperately needs another, but we do need more patrollers and dedicated sub board mods.
2605  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 777Coin signatre campaign - possible scam? on: September 14, 2018, 10:48:02 AM
Lutpin’s managing it, he’s been good usually. They do have delays but not for 10 weeks, that’s taking the piss. Lutpin’s been quiet in the thread for ages.

Can I count on a DT member to leave lightlord red trust if this carries on?

I’m hesitant to move campaign until these bastards pay us. There’s 0.24BTC in the escrow but still nothing. So unorganised. If it goes on much longer it possibly could be considered a scam.

Ten weeks is unacceptable, but I'd just leave if this has become the norm. That campaign was bad a long time ago and I left running it because of the lack of input from Lightlord and it was a nightmare getting payment from him. I had to bite the bullet and leave Coinroll as well rather than hope the payments get sent at one point.

I too have messaged Lutpin roughly 4 weeks ago with still no answer. Can you like just have them pay whats left in the escrow out, this has been absolutely way too long. Time to pay or time to shut 777 coin down!!!

Did not bother with Lightlord as I attempted to contact him, the last time payments were late. I NEVER recieved a response!

The least you could do is reach out to the people you owe $$ to and explain the situation, and give them a time frame. The not replying is the shady part!

Who is holding money in escrow?

The bitvest.io campaign is also 10 weeks without paying. Also owned by Lightlord and managed by Lutpin. They don't give any explanation on the campaign thread, either.

Somebody on DT needs to paint lightlord red otherwise he has no motivation to pay

I'll message both of them later.

I wonder if these are related to these farmers I found here with similar formatted names: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5025001.msg45434800#msg45434800

In that thread from those posts you quoted above  AmazingTiger & ChainFish also make appearances which belong to the farmer I linked to.

Three of them posting all in a row here with their garbled nonsensical two liners:

I wonder if they're actually copying and spinning the content from somewhere.

There's more on the second page:

It’s really great. Finally they understand the crypto mining and made bitcoin legal. This is a good step indeed. They will enter the crypto market and I hope they can make a good position in the world’s economy.

The more country will legalize crypto, more opportunities will come to us. I hope more countries will be inspired with this legalization. We need the whole world for the betterment of the industry.

Is there still a Mod active in this thread? My last few reports haven't been banned yet.
Bumping this question Smiley

Mods are tired of having to waste time of this crap and we've got better things to be doing, but maybe someone will get around to them. Changes need to come from the top and until theymos does something about this sort of huge farming and abuse, which has become endemic, then it's pointless even bothering. When farmers like these are spotted the admins should be looking into their IPs and banning them en mass instead of us having to play cat and mouse with them banning the few we find. There will likely be dozens or even hundreds of these accounts it's pointless when they just evade the bans of the other accounts and can get paid from ICO campaigns in the process. I've suggested making users like you and krishnapramod mods so you can handle them yourself but we all know what happens to my suggestions. Until we stop these users from even being able to earn here and punishing campaigns that pay for this spam then nothing will change and in fact things will only get worse as more and more people realise the amount of money there is to be made in such an easy and lazy way.

If anyone wants to join in the Champions League Predictor pool I'm running please sign up here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4919683.0

It's £25 in btc to join in. All the money will be split between the winners (probably top two or three but depends on how many people sign up before it starts).

Looks like Napoli reps are shitting themselves at the thought of being in a group with PSG & Liverpool Grin

"We are bitter, I will ask for an explanation from UEFA," said De Laurentiis, speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

"Liverpool, Champions League finalists, are put in pot 3? It is a disastrous anomaly’’

I'm actually liking how the groups have fallen. They're all going to have some great games apart from Group D which is shit and Group F which has essentially given Man City a free pass to the next round already.
2609  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 13, 2018, 07:01:57 PM
Hugo Lloris & Dele Alli out of the Liverpool game Saturday, should give my Red Men a slight advantage.

Link - https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11496601/dele-alli-and-hugo-lloris-out-of-tottenham-v-liverpool

I'll wait for the full line-ups to be announced before I put any money on this (or make my predictions on the predictor). I would have probably gone for a draw but if Spurs are down players and Liverpool put out a full strength team I'll be likely to back them, especially as I think Liverpool are the slightly stronger team anyway.

I wonder how many people will have the balls to back Watford against United? That game could go anyway I reckon. Could be zero goals, only one in it or an absolute slugfest.
2610  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk's UEFA Champions League Football Preditor Pool £25 in btc to join on: September 13, 2018, 06:56:21 PM
If anyone wants to join in the Champion's League action there's not long left to do so now. The competition starts on Tuesday so time is running out to get involved. I'll likely start collecting money in over the weekend so look out for the PMs to those who have signed up already.

Can I join? If yes then I am in.

You want to join the predictor or the other side bets people have got going on?
2611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 13, 2018, 06:52:24 PM
Don't forget to put your scores in now we're back from the international break.

Does anyone have the balls to back Watford to beat United? Anyone going for Liverpool to overpower Spurs at Wembley? I think both games will be close.

Who is managing the campaign?  Have you contacted lightlord? He's still active was seemingly bidding on forum a slots which he won recently:

Bids must be evenly divisible by 0.02? (As suggested in the op rules).

Right. When people bid a value that is not evenly divisible by 0.02, I always round down to the next acceptable value. So a bid at 0.03 would be interpreted as a bid at 0.02.

Auction ended, final result:
Slots BTC/Slot Person
2 0.08 lightlord
1 0.08 ni23457
1 0.08 einax
2 0.08 FortuneJack
2 0.08 modernbuddha
1 0.08 ExoPlanets.io

He probably just needs a kick up the arse. Leave them negative feedback if it's becoming habbit.
2614  Other / Meta / Re: Is this can be reported as Plagiarism on: September 13, 2018, 09:34:35 AM
I wouldn't consider this grounds for a ban or anything, though I do think the member ought to be schooled as to how to properly cite his source.  The way he did it isn't just lazy, it's the absolute wrong way to cite a website from which you're quoting something.  The right way to do it is to provide a link to the exact page the quote comes from.  This should be obvious, but who knows what level of education this knucklehead has, not to mention where his moral compass points.

That's my opinion, but I could see how others might think this is at least borderline plagiarism.  I just don't think it goes that far, because he did make it somewhat clear that he isn't the original author of the post.

Agree with everything you said. Doesn't deserve a ban in my opinion, but someone should warn them about how to properly quote and source something if they haven't been already. If all his posts were just him sharing copied material (even with sources) I would usually just warn them about that. Not really much point in you being here if you're just sharing articles for the sake of it and it is usually just done as a way to get away with legalised copy and pasting.

That is plagiarism, you can't use a whole of text even if you indicate the source, he or she does not even own a one sentence in the post, that's purely plagiarism.

''copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not (see our section on "fair use" rules)'' plagiarism.org

Yes, in a scientific world, it is considered as a plagiarism even if we did add the fully reference of the source. To make it as "not plagiarism" thing, one must make the work based on his own word even though he refer to other articles or news, and then you still must add the source.

I believe even in the internet world, it is still a plagiarism, and should lead to a punishment.

It's not plagiarism if you site your source, which he did.

Quote
the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.

You're not really trying to pass the work off as your own if you provide the source, but in this case it wasn't done properly (or lazily).

-snip-
Dammit! My bad, I think I was a bit excited at the topic that I didn't really check for plagiarism. I'll be more wary with my merit next time. Kinda sad to see Bitcoin Discussion in this state.

Yes, I found this looking through your posts  Grin

Don't worry about it. I fell victim to this the other day. I even googled the post first before I merited it but got no hits. Turns out they'd done some 'text-spinning' to avoid detection. Such a sad state of affairs when you have to check posts haven't been plagiarised before you merit them. The sad thing is half of the 'best' content you see here is often copied from somewhere because people just don't have the ability to come up with their own meritable content. Welcome to copyandpastetalk.org.
2616  Other / Meta / Re: Is this kind of promo-thread allowed on bitcointalk? on: September 13, 2018, 09:28:15 AM
Well, I think it could depend on what the 'action' is:

  • Perform an action and first 100 will get 0.0002BTC for free to our service account

If the action is to make a post on your thread, then no, that wouldn't be allowed, but there are plenty of 'legit' ways you can offer such payment for performing certain actions. Check the Bounties section for examples and to see what usually goes on there.
2617  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: September 13, 2018, 09:23:48 AM
I have another suggestion that I forgot about: The ability to 'share' ownership of the op of a thread so those relevant individuals can make changes to it. For instance, when you create the thread you can add 'co-owners/operators' who then can edit the thread the same as you can. This would be helpful for community-lead projects and threads like the Sig Campaign Overview where you can let a couple of trusted individuals make the required changes, or for businesses who have a couple of employees who can make the required changes instead of just relying on the person who created the thread. Obviously you would only grant access to those who you trust but I think this would be very helpful, especially for projects where the op may lose interest or not be as active as they once was.

I have another suggestion that's not really important, but can be annoying. I've ran into it many times: if a user creates a wide post, it looks good on the forum. But in the user's post history, it totally messes up the layout.
Example: this post makes me scroll about 20 meter left and right in my post history (note that this last link will point to the wrong page in a few days).
I often run into this problem when I check the post history of a "bounty manager" in an altcoin ANN thread.

Yeah, this is annoying, especially when you're going through someone's post history and trying to remove infringing posts.
2618  Other / Meta / Re: Some topic should sticked. Moderators please check & consider if possible. on: September 12, 2018, 03:37:09 PM
rules should either be displayed or linked to upon sign up and they should be forced to read them in any which way we can.

Strongly agree with you. There should force to read the rules. Just not like we skip terms & conditions when register others site. Should add tick box for each rule. Means a new user have to read and mark one by one. And shouldn't allow for skip.

Personally I don't really care whether they read them or not, just as long as the info is there and presented to them. There will then be no excuses for I didn't see or read them. If you chose to not read them then it's your own damn fault.

I figure the protocol should be to PM the local board's mod/s, and let them decide, but I wanted to make sure that was the procedure, which could lead to some core guides being a sticky on some boards, but not on others.

Yes, PM the local mods. Globals and admins can sticky topics there as well but obviously the best choices to check/consider its worthiness would be the locals. I'm sure if they think it's beneficial and helpful enough then they'll sticky it.
2619  Other / Archival / Re: Alternative solutions by community instead of pushing theymos. on: September 12, 2018, 01:11:16 PM
I honestly don't understand what the point of this thread is about or why you couldn't just use the other one. You said 'Alternative solutions by community instead of pushing theymos' but don't seem to have made any solutions and half of the things you've commented on or proposed actually need theymos' input or help.

Please share your thought if there is alternative solutions by community about any suggested post. We can't try our best instead of blaming theymos ?

Nothing can be done without him making changes at the top. Anything else is pointless because you don't make the rules here nor can you implement the changes that need to be made. You can't punish ICOs nor can you remove signatures from lower ranks and any of the other suggestions or changes are just superficial that don't tackle the root cause of the issue and that's why we need theymos to act here. If he doesn't then nothing will change.
