i have been studing economics and statistics.

Please remind me such event in the past. This is an indicator of new era. Community mining is shrinking...

7 data points is a leading indicator?

More like a blip on a scatterplot.

what's left to accuse me of when they deliver? Sure you'll think of something.

2623  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Poor Radeon HD6950 Litecoin mining performance, need help [SOLVED] on: September 09, 2013, 05:18:03 PM
While I don't have these cards, I have noticed the dummy plug requirement seems to vary. I've used Xubuntu / Ubuntu / Debian / BAMT all with varying cards, on recent drivers and cgminer builds, and never had to use a dummy plug for 1 or multi-GPU setups.

I'm thinking it could be a motherboard/bios thing as well as setting in the OS itself.

Situations may vary of course, but this has been my experience. None of the units in my farm have dummy plugs, or anything connected to them at all except an ethernet and power cable.

This is one of the better threads for lunchtime humor reading

Responded.

Will also take a personal house-maid for trade. Hahaha

I'm a neat freak but sometimes don't have time to keep the estate clean lol

Seriously though, all interests welcome.

I bought it around 2006 or so, TMK they're not on any federal ban list (yet).

Various states and localities which don't follow the Constitution and Bill or Rights have mandates against it or some of the accessories, but not at a federal level.
2627  Economy / Speculation / Re: Evaluating parameters for EMA crossover trading: A rigorous approach (kind of) on: September 09, 2013, 01:29:33 PM
This is a very useful thread for anyone, like myself, who's currently working through all of this. It also helps validate some of what I've been noticing myself.

Thanks!

I like Rob's rendition.

I wouldn't pay $5 for it though, no offense lol. Be cheaper to just laser print on card stock and laminate it.
2629  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 09, 2013, 12:39:32 PM
+1 to the coinop case. I say rock it. Maybe someone can make an arcade game where you use bitcoins and can win them back? That'd be neat as hell.

I miss those days. My dad used to work for one of the largest coinop/billiard leasing companies in my area. I'd get to preview and play games long before they hit the streets, and I'd get to play them for free at their warehouse. They would assemble them and let them sit for awhile before they got shipped out. Super fun.

I go into arcades these days and it's just not the same. Home game systems surpass the graphics by far, and the arcade world is really dying hard and fast. So many good memories.
2630  Economy / Auctions / Re: Auction: KNCMiner Jupiter Order with one year hosting on: September 09, 2013, 11:45:37 AM
If you refund the hosting, are you going to tell KNC where to ship it (to the winning buyer's locale), thus avoiding any issue with KNC having to change address.
2631  Economy / Service Discussion / BFL claims no FTC or BBB complaints filed.. and deletes my posts on it.. LOL on: September 09, 2013, 02:00:55 AM
So on one of my threads on the BFL forum, I pointed out how BFL claimed their method of clearing the backlog would be to have individual production/parts lines for each product, so they'd all move together super fast. I pointed out how clearly there's some huge failures going on in the company as their Jally line has been shut down for over a week to let other lines move forward.

That was fine but my post about customers filing BBB / FTC complaints to get refunds got deleted. Apparently it's false to say that folks have done that. Our friend BFL_Josh, a good member on this forum as well, told me it was because I didn't follow guidelines.. was either a troll or posting false information. Hrm, I suppose it's all relative really. I did ask if he had any info on the backlog! Here's a snapshot of what's been said.

If he has anything to say about the backlog I'll post it! Grin

2632  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has the NSA already broken bitcoin? on: September 09, 2013, 01:44:03 AM
Indeed. So, Edward Snowden already knew how effective NSA are at code-breaking and how pervasive their surveillance is, and yet he still managed to use e.snowden@lavabit.com to e-mail Glenn Greenwald for a Hong Kong meet, catch a plane to Hong Kong (the story goes that he only had a passport in his own name), and only once it was on every hourly newsreel did they start to try and apprehend him? You'd think that a highly paid contractor with high levels of access and clearance would have been getting watched as a matter of routine. Reality does not fit the story properly.

I can assure you folks aren't monitored quite like you'd imagine, not everyone at least.

Lots of discussion about broken crypto on here, some really good stuff with legitimacy too. Some of it is a little off the mark but close.

Best advice I will give, which is what I've been taught and live by: Presume none of your encryption matters, with regard to what you store and transmit.

Also, presume what's being suggested to use as the best encryption, is a bit of a double ruse. On one hand, some folks will look at that and think "they want me to use this.. because there's a way around it.. so I won't use it and will look at something else" ... which could also be equally compromised. The old salesman's technique, park the sedan next to the sports car and tell the guy all the reasons why he doesn't want the sports car. He'll buy the sports car.
2633  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Group Buy #12 NEW Blade Miners 4 BTC or less! USA Orders Only Please! on: September 09, 2013, 01:13:53 AM

2634  Economy / Auctions / Re: Auction: KNCMiner Jupiter Order with one year hosting on: September 08, 2013, 10:08:02 PM
Why are you trying to sell a "clear" money maker anyhow, if it's going to break itself even within a month or two?
2635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 08, 2013, 09:47:03 PM
I'd much rather mine ship in an aluminum case, even if I was going to discard it upon receipt. The last pallet I received from across the pond had a forklift arm stab through half the boxes while on some boat, and parts were spilling out the side as they wheeled it out to my truck. You can keep your cardboard boxes all you want.

SO yeah. Aluminum box ftw.
2636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 08, 2013, 01:17:42 AM
Keith from KNC says:

Quote
There has been a slight revision in our casing that we had neglected to previously explain.

The case has had an airflow improvement to ensure increased thermal efficiency.

We have ensured the hot air from the front two heatsinks is redirected, avoiding the rear chips, and is expelled from the casing by installing fins affixed to the upper casing section (despite appearing in the CAD as part of the lower section of casing). In turn this allows a sufficient amount of cool air exits to ensure a cooler operating environment for the rear heatsinks to operate comfortably.

What I don't understand is why they didn't make a wider case with all four modules side by side instead of trying to direct the air with baffles.

They wanted it to be rack mountable for data centers.  Racks are typically 19" wide.

It's not 19" wide, and not rackable.  Further, the PS is external and has to live next to the case.  Awful solution from every perspective.

absolutely! i should immediately cancel all my orders. the psu isnt in the case? oh my fuckin god!!!!!

I read that, hearing it in Cartman's voice, and absolutely lost it Cheesy

I'm pissed, because can't believe, that KNC will fulfill their promise..we will see in 2 weeks™ who was right.
You have no evidence, at all, that they will be late. Yet you're pissed about your own fears.

You are a complete wuss, unable to control your emotions, and acting irrationally.

Guess it takes nerves of steel to roll with the big boys in bleeding-edge bitcoin mining. Have some of you actually lost sleep over this? The hell is wrong with you.

^-- ZING! On point.
2638  Economy / Auctions / Re: Auction: KNCMiner Jupiter Order with one year hosting on: September 07, 2013, 06:33:10 PM
Or for that price you could get 2TH miner. Or 2 new Jupiters.
2639  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 07, 2013, 05:13:07 PM
Reading some of these posts I can't help but think this to myself:

For everyone demanding photos of the chips, Here's the anticipated photo of chips:

Now can all of the anxiety-stricken folks just chill out? lol Jeez. Seriously.

Best way to solve your problem: Decide that on X day (say.. 15Sep or 1Oct) if it hasn't shipped, you will request a refund. Then, you will not worry any longer, and you'll have your money back. The rest of us will be happy because you've STFU, and it'll be more hashing power for us to buy back.

Everyone wins!

2640  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 06, 2013, 02:57:54 PM
Trouble is this is not MS, this is an extremely time sensitive hardware investment and it loses value every second of every day and that includes the time frame between when the pre-order is placed and when the pre-order is(hopefully) delivered.

Every investment in a ground-floor startup in something emerging is time sensitive because your potential profits will always be behind the curve. In this case it's a piece of hardware, in MS's case it was getting the sale.

The risks are off the charts and they're being 100% handed to investors. Please see nearly any BFL investor for confirmation.

Uh, No. BFL is off the charts. KNC is a spec when you compare the two, which is why I put the comparison against all current OEM's. To say KNC is off the charts just doesn't fit, not to mention, their model is very different from BFL's.

at least shoulder some of the risks themselves, but they did not do this.

Yes, because taking credit card payments and paypal doesn't offload any miniscule amount of burden from the consumer, and doesn't load risk onto KNC's shoulders at all. Roll Eyes Considering no other company currently provides so many reversable payment options, the risk isn't 100% on the individuals.

Let's say I have 100 Jupiters ordered, after they're in transit I could call my business credit handler and tell them whatever I need in order to reverse the charge. They'll be more than happy to do so and give me my open credit back. Or, I could simply cancel right now. It's not nearly as risky as, say, paying in bitcoin, or a bank transfer.

While I understand what you're getting at, the picture isn't quite as goth as you're trying to paint it.

I'm just disappointed that they've not helped to move us beyond this pre-order model and it's lopsided share of the risks heaped upon investors.

They've gone from about a 90 day window to a 30-60 day window, with the probable progression to a 15-30 day window. That's positive progress. It just sounds like you want Amazon Prime ASIC Foundary or something, but you're not going to get it. Anywhere. For quite awhile.

Quote
Either you're a genious or your viewpoint is skewed because hardly anyone else sees it that way, especially considering KNC has taken more risk than any other startup in the ASIC world. There's risk with ANY altcoin mining OR purchasing OR preorder of equipment. Any! There's risk with the stock markets for heaven sake! Presently, every other option out there is 99.9% vaporware compared to KNC. At least with KNC's "pre order scheme" as the spirit of your posts call it, you can get your money back.

You mean like the guy that voiced his agreement almost immediately after mine?

"hardly anyone" != "nobody"

The market is moving away from the pre-order model anyway as more and more vendors enter the space.

A moment ago the complaint was the market is still stuck in a preorder phase, and now the market is moving away? KNC is the only OEM making "leaps and bounds" toward a shorter delivery window. So yeah, I agree with you there.

Vendors are having a lot more difficulty getting investors to throw pre-order funds at them even now.

Could also be because most systems are becoming more expensive than ever before, and word is getting out about all of the OEM's. Not just because people don't like preorders.

I believe THIS is the post you're attempting to pick apart, so let's put it here for context shall we?

The pre-order model flat out sucks for investors. At best it's a zero interest loan with the purchased gear as collateral. The gear that hasn't been built yet mind you. Yes knc is offering refunds and I wouldn't even have given them a second look otherwise, but we need to move beyond this ridiculous sales model. Just because you can get a refund doesn't mean you don't have losses. Those that are ordering are plainly interested in BTC and as such have numerous investment opportunities. When knc announced their plans to develop this hardware those that invested made their choice. Whether it was the right choice or not remains to be seen, but if they paid with BTC at that time then they're already way behind because they locked in an exchange rate that was most likely lower than it is now. If they paid with fiat then they likely could've purchased BTC directly and been better off. Again, nothing against knc as they've acted in good faith thus far, I'm just disappointed that they've not helped to move us beyond this pre-order model and it's lopsided share of the risks heaped upon investors.

Yeah I'm familiar with the post.. the context as well. Doesn't change where I'm coming from.

The way I see it, KNC's model and execution (thus far) is an exponentially better system than BFL or others have had, and I believe they'll be leading the way toward a less "preorder" system. At the same time, I'm confident someone else (putting money on Cointerra) will likely perfect the system and bring a model which is more along the lines of what you describe.
