2621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help For cold storage on: April 04, 2014, 11:34:47 AM
I have an old computer tower lying in my storeroom,

I want to move a few of my bitcoins onto that and keep it there until an emergency occurs.

So what I want to do is ;
Format the pc
Double check for viruses with Malwarebytes and AVG
download a wallet onto that pc
Encrypt that wallet
Send my BTC there
Then shutdown that pc and leave it until needed.

The pc would have the usual user account password etc.
I won't forget the password since it is my wifi passkey Smiley

Good Idea?
Yes ,no, maybe?

Your process is good but you're leaving the wallet only in one location. What if you lost your computer, your house burnt or someone steals your computer?

Copy the wallet file on a couple of USB drives and store them in different locations.
Also upload the wallet file (encrypted) to one of your cloud storage accounts or email it to yourself.
2622  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Whats your wallet balance? on: April 04, 2014, 10:21:11 AM
Have a few BTC and a lot of alts (BTC clones)
Hey..  only if I could extract private keys from some BTC-clone alts and import in my BTC wallet and they could transform into BTC, wouldn't it be nice?  Grin

2625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What percentage of your wealth is in Bitcoin? on: April 04, 2014, 10:11:49 AM
About 2% right now. I'm piling up some more BTC slowly, but that doesn't change the % because the fiat also grows.
2626  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to detect Keylogger on: April 04, 2014, 10:00:47 AM
Zemana is good.

Also scan for Rootkits. They're advanced form of malware that go unnoticed by conventional antivirus scanners. Many reputed antivirus companies build specialized anti-rootkit scanners and distribute for free. You won't need to install them in most cases, just download and run!

http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-rootkit-scanner-remover.htm

PS: Also, if you're OK with paid softwares, I would recommend Kaspersky Internet Security over Avast. I was using Avast myself but for a few years I've switched to Kaspersky and the difference is like day and night.

if i spend a few thousand of my current BTC to build a time machine, go back to 2009 and kill Satoshi to prevent him from creating Bitcoin, would I still be rich today to invent the time machine?

2637  Economy / Speculation / Re: I predict that btc will rise to $2000 by end of March 2014 on: April 03, 2014, 06:10:36 AM
Since my last prediction went so well Smiley, I am going to make another "most accurate" prediction ever:

BTC will rise to $2000 by end of March 2014.

Fcuk! I invested my life savings in BTC based on your rock-solid prediction and now I am homeless!
I'm coming to get you! Give me your address! Cheesy
2638  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eBay DELETED my auction for Avalon Miners because I accept Bitcoin! on: April 03, 2014, 04:10:43 AM
ebay and paypal froze my accounts because i sold bitcoins.

That has happened to a lot of people in past. They're OK if you are selling mining equipments and accessories, but you can't sell Bitcoins.
And you have to use one of their specified payment methods.
