2641  Other / Meta / Re: Are there real people here, or just bots? on: December 06, 2017, 09:56:56 AM
Strikes me with the same questions being asked over and over, with the same replies over and over...

Forums like this are simply a purvey of bots.

Clever I gotta say... but as Abe Lincoln once said....

There is only so much we can discuss without going into such stupidity. As a late-bloomer in bitcoin, you are constantly torn between devoting your time to learn your stuff or just do the grunt work of making posts and shares and joining all the bounties there are.

I see facebook profiles with 5000 friends with not a single activity except sig campaign shares. Same as in twitter. Definitely these are bot accounts. Who is to say if its right or wrong when people are earning money from it but its definitely very harmful to the intellect and makes you feel pretty cheap about all this. Roll Eyes
Nobody has the answers though and I guess we all follow our own paths on this journey. Its almost like an RPG. Lets hope that resting and learning in the taverns will give you more knowledge---> Power ----> BTC than just aimlessly practicing outside the village with sticks.. Roll Eyes

BTW..Care to complete what Abe said?
2642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: thoughts about ICO's using "Airdrops" on: December 05, 2017, 02:49:53 PM
If you have a legit product and looking to raise funds through an ICO, Airdrop is a sure shot way to kill investor confidence and your project.

PROXY token was a big example of this. The devs were good but they started an airdrop at the same time as the ICO opened. Almost 2000 people poured into their telegram in a few hours. The telegram chat got flooded with people posting their addresses and despite being a good project with a working product, they ended with 3 ETH raised.
This was pretty unfortunate and the devs have been sulking a lot since them. Can't blame them of course except that they should have thought it out better.
2643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Flood of Bitcoin Forks Coming....4 more here before Jan 2 2018! Sheesh! on: December 05, 2017, 02:37:46 PM
Apart from the forks, there is also those that are completely new coins with the bitcoin name. For example Bitcoin Dark, Bitcoin White. Then you can have the full rainbow too.

So combining all these, i think 25 is reachable. Even when it becomes irrelevant, i guess programmers, hobbyists and plain mischief players would do it just for the sake of it.

I mean sharing a name and blockchain history with the original coin does sound kindda cool. Say what, you may even have these as graduation projects. That'd be a pretty good idea..

2645  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Difference between Traditional V/S Crypto Banking on: December 04, 2017, 05:27:15 AM
Traditional banking has lead us through depressions and crashes. It has created a system that benefits a few and has decision making concentrated in the hands of few who have the most holdings.
In that sense, if ever crypto-currency banking becomes the norm, it'll still have these features. Decision-making and power will still be concentrated in the hands of a few.

Traditional banking has more or less failed to serve the lower classes in proportion to their contribution. The middle classes go through the servitude of mortgages, loans, credit cards and see their wealth dwindle in the face of inflation, market crashes etc. This is where crypto-banking or the whole bitcoin phenomena will probably be different. It gives you control over your wealth and YOU decide what to do with it.

This makes it prone to individual mistakes and scams but I hope there will be correction as people become aware of the intricacies and start taking care of their security.
2646  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons You Shouldn't Buy Bitcoins on: December 03, 2017, 08:12:47 AM
Why should you not invest in bitcoins, cryptocurrencies?
Is there any valid reason to stay away from cryptocurrencies?
I think it is good to have some discussion here for our kind information.

If you are looking to invest only time and your brain, then there is no reason not to do so in crytpo-currency.
If you are looking to invest money as of now, you shouldn't because its at ATH (All time high) right now. All that the current buyers are doing is increasing the profits for the early adopters who got them in the hundreds and thousands for dirt-cheap prices, while you'll have to blow through 2-3 weeks'salary to buy a fraction of it now! This is completely favored to those at the top and such an investment is a typical MLM, Ponzi scheme. These are just the sensible reason why you shouldn't invest right now.

What you should invest is probably your time to earn BTC online by working for it. You should also put in the time to be a part of the conversation, maybe try your hand at mining with some cheap gear.

2647  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcointalk Account price estimator on: November 23, 2017, 09:27:55 AM
Really cool project.

Just one thing that my post count is 136 at present and the activity as per profile is 98. The result showed both potential activity and activity as 112. (which is 14 X 8 weeks I've been here).

Basically, I din't get any EPA as my activity and potential activity is the same. Shouldn't Potential activity be the same as number of posts? The number can be modified taking the posts per day into account (if they are burst posts or widely distributed).

Though the good thing I deduced from the formula was that my post quality has been judges as excellent. That is good to know. Thank you..Smiley
2648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Will Bitcoin Look Like in Ten Years? on: November 23, 2017, 08:43:55 AM
From the options given, OP has given a choice between bitcoin currency and the bitcoin protocol. Bitcoin has been the first major implementation of blockchain but it looks like it has ceded the initiative to using blockchain in innovative ways to a lot of others like Ether etc.

Although, you cannot write them off as the innovations that would eventually enable intended scaling capacity may still come from the bitcoin team seeing that they are the oldest and most experienced lot. These innovations not withstanding, the real power of bitcoin is now as a currency cum commodity cum store of value (take your pick). All investments in crypto are going to be pegged against BTC and thats why i feel, bitcoin in ten years shall be bitcoin. Much more stable and much higher in value.

As the main All purpose blockchain, probably not.
2649  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: We should build a seastead on: November 23, 2017, 08:29:56 AM
<...>

It can if the populace is comprised of like-minded millionaires. Not quite sure how you could apply that model to regular countries with massive and diverse populations without it ending up in the usual "massive mansions surrounded by slums" scenario many east Asian countries seem to exhibit.

Libertarianism isn't just for the wealthy. In fact, the reverse is true: today, the wealthy have unprecedented control via their huge influence over governments; as a result, the rich get richer and the poor are kept in their place. A seastead would at first probably be populated mostly by higher-income people due to the great initial expense, but over time this'd change. People go where opportunities are, and a minimally-regulated seastead will offer tons of opportunities for everyone. With the sweat of your brow, a seastead can become your city as well! Wink

<...>
Honestly, this just sounds like picking uncontrolled corporations working as intended (maximum profits at the expense of everyone else) over governments that aren't (corruption, inefficiency, etc.). The "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" would simply be the intended result rather than an unfortunate consequence. As much as you people seem to go on how "authoritarian" the US is (I mean mass surveillance does seem to be a massive issue), you seem to take a lot of the things for granted. ..... All of which really makes me question whether any of you understand what libertarianism truly entails in the old world or do you just not care?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but libertarianism hinges on as much individual social and economic freedom as possible, right? Which means price gouging on vital medicinal goods (see the Epipen price gouging scandal), de-facto oligopolies that crackdown on any rising competition (see Internet providers in the US), exploitative business practices on both the employee (extremely long working hours, low wages, unpaid overtime, fired after a project) and consumer (Skinner box-based pricing schemes, thinly veiled gambling schemes available to children, etc.) sides (see Electronic Arts), uncontrolled environmental pollution (see oil and coal industries), a higher education system that sets you back decades financially (unless you happen to be a genius or have rich parents) and a healthcare system where a person has to wear a vest warning others not to call an ambulance when he has a seizure since that would cost him a third of his monthly paycheck are all fine since they don't violate any rights if you don't use these (often vital) goods and / or services, right?

Hell, all of this is under the US's so called "authoritarian" capitalism. How about child labor, piss poor working conditions and wages (since everyone's gotta eat and there's always someone looking for work), pollution to the point where wearing protective masks is mandatory if you don't want to die by 40 from lung cancer, healthcare financially off-limits to a big chunk of the working class? Even if we were to ignore all of this and assume that hard work = wealth, what about the elderly, who are incapable of working anymore, the mentally or physically disabled, the people who got fucked over / used and disposed of afterwards by the aforementioned exploitative individuals / corporations? Are you going to just leave them to die? If not, where are you going to get the money from? The bare minimum taxes that'll already be spread thin in order to maintain security and basic infrastructure?

Call me cynical, but I think I might be living in a different world, 'cause yours sounds like candyland.

Thanks a lot mprep for putting this in perspective for a lot of us. Especially the newbies. I was super excited to see a new post by THE THEYMOS himself. All you guys are pretty much part of the folklore at r/bitcoin and r/btc.

Its really easy to get excited about these "Lets make a government-free utopia" ideas and forget about the real world, where real survival problems still exist. Its easy to be disgusted by the mess that Governments make and all that they have failed to accomplish. If you go deeper, it becomes clear that governance is a problem of "keeping everyone together despite their differences". How do you ensure that everyone has equal opportunity and equal chances of survival in a heterogeneous society.

Seems like a homogeneous society made up of the BTC millionaires would be an ideal experiment in seeing if similar thinking people really can  solve the problems of governance. Though you gotta ask that what exactly are they solving when they have no problems??!!

That in turn made me question how bitcoin has come so far from its idea of an equal society to funding charmful ideas as these??

I feel this really doesn't help anybody except satisfying an old fantasy but hey, that's what the rich are supposed to do right?? Entertain their eccentricities and childhood fantasies. Those in turn can either go horribly wrong or inspire people to higher ideals. If its the former then we the commoners can say, told'ya and if its the latter then well, its good for everybody.

This was an exciting discussion. Looking forward to more of it.
2650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][ICO] 🔥💥 Angel Token 🔥💥 Refundable Altcoin Investment Fund - 690% Bonus on: November 21, 2017, 03:03:36 AM
The ICO basically gives those with the funds to be part of a 'Private Investment Club". You either have to be very rich already or one of those geeks who invested when ETH was dirt-cheap.
Frankly, anybody who has acquired ETH cheaply MUST invest in this. They have nothing to lose. The story maybe different for those like us who didn't get to know about ETH/ BTC early enough and aren't rich enough.

Read through the whitepaper and the website. They have stated multiple times to consider this as a "very high risk" investment and are making no crazy promises. Just pragmatic trader banter.
Although the whitepaper mentions that the smart-contract has been audited by solidified.io , which is in reality, still under progress. Maybe that could be changed.
Other than that, its a pretty good opportunity. I am tied up in a different signature campaign. Will surely apply as soon as that frees up and hope to get accepted. Us small fish can't afford to lose those signature earnings to hop to a new one you know.. Cheesy
Good Luck to the team!
2651  Local / Mining (India) / Re: Ethereum / ZCash Miners in Bangalore - Here is how you get started with Mining on: November 20, 2017, 06:10:28 AM
Amidst all the spams and scams, your setup and the motivation behind it feels genuine. Although, its not possible for everybody to buy a rig directly so have you thought about shipping just the hardware probably.
Hope you can consider something like it. Sent you a message on Whatspp Kaka.. Cheesy
2652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [BOUNTY] BankEx - Proof-of-Asset Protocol. Up to $1M in rewards on: November 18, 2017, 04:36:12 PM

Absolutely right. The forum moderators too have issues a warning regarding this. Thats why the better campaigns are having the option to fill information regarding your shares directly to a google form.

Still these pro bounty hunters just pop in with their copy-pasted links. I doubt they read or if they even understand whats being written. There is no problem if they are here only for the bounties but at least they should follow the rules..or be made to follow them..

Frankly, whats irritating is that most of these accounts have 5000+ transactions and they get much more stake than those of us who care to read about the project and actually inform people about it..Sad
2653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: STRATIS for Longterm investment! on: November 18, 2017, 03:23:17 PM
Stratis is indeed a value investment, but it requires a lot of patience and faith because the currency is well developed and advertised but not reflected in the short term, and if you think you can hold it for the long term.

Agreed . Patience Is A Trader's Virtue.
I just dont get why its so undervalued right now ,maybe coz too many people chasing ICO , lending and shitcoins , they are not interested in the potential of these coins anymore  Roll Eyes

YOU GET IT..This is exactly what it is..It has become a complete market right now and all the excitement about new technology is all but gone. The reason being:
1. Scaling issues for which no blockchain seems to have much of an idea. Even Bitcoin doesn't seem to have a ready solution for it so it would be safe to assume that this will take some time. They are the oldest in the trade after-all.
2. Everyone knows there is much more profit in raising money through ICO's.
3. Raising money through ICOs is now dependent much more on marketing than the real product, one reason for which is that very few of the ICOs have a product.

So yeah, Just Buy Low..Sell High for the time being..If luck favors you so..Smiley
2654  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is bitcoin going down? on: November 18, 2017, 03:14:10 PM
I think the peak of bitcoin is around $8000-8100. It never went up beyond that, do you think it could? Right now its below $8000
If you have just bought into bitcoin then its natural to ask such a question. Well, I'll just go ahead and assume you just bought in at some ATH pumped by all the recent hype.

Now you expect it to crash everything and reach 16000 so you can double your money. Well, a lot of people will tell you this time and again, and you will not believe them but still HOLD your BTC. Atleast a healthy part of it.
Once you have BTC, A week can feel like a month but just keep it steady for one month and it'll break 10000 for sure.
2655  Economy / Economics / Re: BITCOIN AS A COMMODITY: IS THIS ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT SUBVERSION? on: November 17, 2017, 03:20:52 AM
Buddy I tell you the more the bankers try to undervalue Bitcoin, the more the coin keeps growing in value. It is obvious they won't want it to survive; it is a new concept to them, sooner or later they will get to flow along with it.
The way things are going on right now with bitcoin value being inflated by CME announcements and institutional investors moving in, It looks like the powers that be have done something more insidious than subversion. Its like bitcoin has been co-opted as the latest entrant to this club of the elites.

The same thing repeats that people with majority holdings (Early adopters/ whales who had money to buy during FUDs) see their wealth grow by leaps and bounds as the small investors try to catch up and scrape their savings to buy those mBTC. All the while, the price keeps being manipulated by big buy-walls all the time.

Its really sad and its definitely not the small guys game anymore. But hey, that happens with every new tech right, so no complaints really.
2656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: [BOUNTY] ARCONA - Augmented Reality. Up to $700K. 27 NOVEMBER on: November 13, 2017, 04:07:41 PM
These managed campaigns are pretty good. I hope people follow the links and don't post their "Facebook share and likes"on the forum itself. This takes away any chance of a fruitful discussion at these threads and leaves the forum look stupid.

There'll always be some idiot who will keep posting these links..I think, they do it with some kind of script..automated and all.. Huh Huh
2657  Other / Meta / Re: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO LEVELLING UP WITHOUT SPAMMING?! on: November 12, 2017, 03:40:29 PM
Its good to know that most people don't judge signature campaign participants too harshly.. Smiley

The forum seems to have already taken a life of its own now and will probably evolve with time. Any attempts at curbing may also be called out as "censorship", as is the trend nowadays. If it still manages to regain old glory, it will be enough evidence that we are ready for true decentralization! Otherwise, I guess we still need institutions.

It was great to have Trump (Panda Trump) accept that No one (including him) knows what needs to be changed to make BCT great again.. Cheesy

Thank you all for the great inputs.

2658  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Bitcoin Investment Group on: November 12, 2017, 03:19:03 PM
Thanks for all of the comments people.  It is clear that this is not something for this board or maybe anywhere in general.

I would like to thank Luke.Watson and A101ET for the reasoned replies rather than outright statements of it categorically being a scam.  For those that have stated it is a scam as fact, it is disappointing that you must have been let down so much before to label everyone as a scammer.  You have been given enough information for a simple google search to verify me, several hits on the first page of google indeed.
Umm..Are we like supposed to feel guilty for this? Hope you aren't employing reverse psychology. if you are new to the crytpo forums in general then you should realize that its normal to be called out a scam if you make offers without suitable background information. It really is disappointing considering the potential this technology has.

With regards to firms having website and address, many do have a website and a simple business mailing address that can be purchased for about £120, so this does not add any legitimacy to anything in my view as there will be no office at the business address.  One reason for not wanting to advertise my home address is because of posters issuing veiled threats like "Where do I send my people to break some bones" - very disappointing, especially from a legendary member of a forum!
I am sure it has never come to that in crypto yet but then yeah, people tend to get aggressive about losing money. It was mostly just a harmless jest. You shouldn't take it literally.

You've called this off already so maybe you can lock the topic.
2659  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Tomorrow is my last day on this Earth on: November 11, 2017, 06:53:42 PM
I wish I knew something perfect to say that would jolt you out of this stupor.

You need to stop thinking about the 15000. Its just money and you are comparing a precious human life with it. Your life that is a miracle of nature.
Your life to which probably a lot of other lives (your family) are connected.

When you have your life and health, you have everything man.
Go to a forest, swim in a river, catch some fish, make a small fire and cook yourself some nice meal, pick some berries and just spend some time out in the sun among nature, WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THE MONEY..!!
Its just money dude. You can always earn it back. It'll come and go, then come and go again. Don't let it affect you so much

Quote simply, your life is the only thing that matters in this whole episode. Not the money, Not the bloody ETH, Not the fucking Bitcoins and definitely not those fucking scamsters.

All that matters is your life and your peace of mind.
RECLAIM IT. AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RECLAIM EVERYTHING ELSE!!
2660  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash - What is the future bitcoin on: November 11, 2017, 06:33:40 PM
BCH is $1175 as we speak.  very worrying increase.  there is clearly a huge conspiracy going on against BTC.  Huh Huh

Bitcoin is the de-facto currency of this crypto-economy. It has been there, done that.

Everything is valued against it. All trading pairs are valued against it. BCH is gaining value because of all the spare money that these traders/ investors had waiting for the alts to drop till the fork. Some wanted to invest in BTC up until the fork probably due to the chance for BT2X coin.
That has been called off and then hasn't been called off. Its a bloody chaos amongst the people with big money. So they are flocking to BCH, which isn't such a bad thing either.
Let it grow. It'll stimulate healthy competition and we'll have all the good things that come out of a free market. Nothing to worry till there are some 100 exchanges with some 1200 alt-pairs trading against BTC!

Also, nothing to worry as such because well Bitcoin is bitcoin. One way or another, it'll live on!!
