If you are involved with humanitarian works
I do have a (few months old) topic to give away Pretty Bitcoin Addresses. It was popular for a short while, and has since then been forgotten.
I'm not asking money, I just like creating nice addresses. It's a nice way to personalize Bitcoin a bit. If you would like to promote Pretty Addy Giveaway a bit, I can crunch some addresses again.
26583  Economy / Services / Re: Free Vanity Address Giveaway on: July 27, 2016, 09:33:44 PM
How did this thread go from several requests per day to none in weeks?
I'll post one more reminder that this service is still available Smiley After that I'll forget it exists.
I got reminded about this topic! I've changed the title back to the original: Pretty Addy Giveaway.
It's time to make some more addresses. Let's personalize Bitcoin Smiley

Depending on the material to translate and your offer to do so, I might be interested.
26586  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Locking a wallet so I can't withdraw coins on: July 27, 2016, 01:22:44 PM
Then let a trusted friend or someone you know who doesnt know btc to hold a password for that account.
Then your trusted friend loses the password, and you can say goodbye to your good friendship and your money. Not a good idea!
26587  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHAT CAN I DO WITH 0.1 BTC ?? on: July 24, 2016, 10:17:20 AM
Don't expect doubling overnight. "In real life" investments produce a few percent per year on average, and the higher the return, the higher the risk.
On average the value of Bitcoin itself has been growing a lot faster, so "buy and hold" has been a good strategy.
26588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO FAIL on: July 24, 2016, 07:13:28 AM
I'm amazed the value of Ethereum went up after the hard fork. Greed wins from common sense? Is this the same way people "invest" in ponzi "doubling" websites? They know it's a scam, but hope to make a quick profit on the short run before the system (based on the greater fool theory) runs out of fools?
In my opinion Ethereum deserves to lose its value, and should always be remembered as an example of how not to handle a cryptocurrency. But it seems like it needs more time to die out.

26592  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Locking a wallet so I can't withdraw coins on: July 19, 2016, 04:18:03 PM
You could get an escrow. But I think it helps more to just man up and learn to save! Especially since it's going to be a larger amount of money for a longer period of time, I wouldn't want it to be in a third party's hands.

Set a picture of the car you want as a desktop image, to remind you of your goals.
26593  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: transaction fee advice on: July 19, 2016, 04:15:22 PM
If you have 48 BTC in it, I assume you have a lot of backups already. If not, well, start making them NOW!

If you use 0.001 BTC as fee, that is quite generous already. Unless you have hundreds or more different input addresses.

Apart from making backups of the old wallet, make sure you have a (few) backup(s) of your NEW wallet too, including the address you're going to use to receive the transaction. Imagine transferring the money and right after you transfer it, your new PC has a disk crash. It's rare, but for 30k dollars I wouldn't want to risk it.
26594  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Paper wallet printed on: July 19, 2016, 04:11:36 PM
for example there is a lot of coins sell with some btc inside. how yo can trust the seller if he don't have back up of your priv key in the coins you buy?
You can't.
Exactly. You have to "swipe" the paper wallet, transfer the amount of Bitcoin to an address you and only you have access to, and never use that same paper wallet again.
26595  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People Losing Passwords & Wallets... on: July 19, 2016, 07:32:19 AM
Everyone should write tutorials for newbies
Bad idea! Tutorials are available already, and most Bitcoin users don't have enough understanding of the concept to be able to write tutorials.
Showing tutorials on the other hand is a good idea, but if people are spending money on things they don't understand, it's just a life lesson to them if they lose money.

People got used to it being okay to lose passwords. Any email provider nowadays has recovery options, and many people need that too. Banks are the same. Many people rely on password recoveries.
Data loss is no different: many people lose their precious photos when their computer breaks down. If they don't understand how to make proper backups there, how can they understand how to handle Bitcoin?
26596  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BitCoin Units on: July 19, 2016, 06:57:55 AM
This site should answer your question.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Units
It makes no sense to make up as many units as you can in a list. "milli-bitcoin" is a normal one, if you add "mill-bitcoin" which is worth 2684.35456 times more you're just being confusing. So I suggest to forget this list.

The normal units are these:
1 BTC = 1,000 mBTC = 1,000,000 bits = 100,000,000 Satoshi = USD$ 680 (as of now)

OR

1 Satoshi = 0.01 bit = 0.00001 mBTC = 0.00000001 BTC = USD$ 0.0000068
I think it's confusing to use 8 instead of something that can be multiplied by 3, but that's the way Satoshi made it.
It's also confusing when people start using "Mb" when they mean mBTC. Mb sounds like memory, not Bitcoin.
I've also noticed that a lot of people have no idea what mBTC means! In a chat I Mod people often ask "how many Bitcoin is 1 mBTC?". My guess is it's people who use imperial units, as I would expect the rest of the world to know SI-units.

Personally I don't like "bits", because once again it sounds like computer-stuff instead of money. And more importantly, it doesn't have "Bitcoin" in the name. "Satoshi" doesnt' have it either, but unlike "bit" that's not a common word in the English language.

My favourite is now mBTC, because of the value in dollars: almost 1 dollar is easy to calculate. I don't want to order a meal for 0.031 Bitcoin, 31 mBTC is easier to pronounce or read.

26599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Views on Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) on: July 18, 2016, 03:33:57 PM
This is against Bitcoin principle of bitcoin being digital cash. When you transact cash with someone you don't know who the person is. We don't need this and certainly not at a protocol level, this will only destroy bitcoin's privacy. BIP75 is trash and will never happen.
So it's like showing my passport every time I pay cash? Thanks but no thanks!
If I wanted to reveal my identity I could use my creditcard or a bank transfer instead of Bitcoin.

bout 616 euro a BTC.... When today's rate is average is 596.53 euro.
It makes no sense to look at the average price, it's the current price that counts. I like using kraken.com exchange, it gives the best rates of any site I've seen so far. I assume it's available in Ireland using IBAN. Current price: EUR 616.
