Good luck with this!

Well... thats a way to never get something sold Cheesy

Why buy from you when 7 BTC would get me the same BRAND NEW ?

We are no cash cows to milk.
+1. OP, you need a time machine to when bitcoins are lower.
2683  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy now at Mt.Gox' $190 price or wait? on: April 09, 2013, 12:14:01 PM
I am getting ready to buy my first Bitcoins, should buy now or wait a week?

What are your opinions?
Uh, I remember a thread on this a week ago.
Link please, the seach funtion is useless.

Nah, I can't find that for the moment. I'll be sure to bookmark this thread when the next thread comes along.

PS: All PM's are generally replied within 12-20 hours. If I don't, and I'm online, feel free to send another PM my way. (I get over 20 PM's daily so I might miss some)
2685  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Vouching newbies on: April 09, 2013, 11:29:35 AM
Established members should be able to "vouch" a newbie (with limits, for example X per week) and allow them to post outside the newbie section. This would be useful to people you've introduced to bitcoin.
They generally can by PM'ed one of us mods.
2686  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: the rise of asic mining, will it be the end of bitcoin? on: April 09, 2013, 05:23:30 AM
You have a misunderstanding about how bitcoin mining works. Faster hashing won't mean a higher rate of bitcoins relased in any significant way.
This. More hashing speed = greater security for the network. A block will still be released every 10~ minutes or so.
2687  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie rules could be put on help page. on: April 09, 2013, 05:22:37 AM
Well, we've debated to use large flashing popups just to get their attention, but figured that there's got to be people who don't read anything anyway.

2690  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling my two Avalon ASIC Units from Batch #2 on: April 09, 2013, 04:56:22 AM
I'll take them both.

John, you're a mod here, and acting as escrow, so you'll be the one holding my money and receiving his machine?   That's a lot of value in your hands, and while the only reason I feel comfortable even talking about this transaction is because you are involved I would need some personal details to know who I am actually dealing with here.

If that's not out of line, and the seller agrees we can move forward.

300 BTC is a fair price for 2 pre-orders for B2.

Since the Avalon owner is also a member of this forum I'd politely hope he would verify the orders and such.

I'm only holding the deposit at the moment for his transaction, as stated above.

As per my rep here, I've been doing escrow for some time already. I'm currently holding over 2k BTC of others funds, the greatest being 1k BTC of the forum for an indefinite period of time, and others from various members here. I've lost count of how much funds that have passed through my hands so far, but a few large-sized transaction that I can make public here is a 2200 BTC TX some weeks ago (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=141672.msg1568855#msg1568855) , and multiple large-sized AM share auctions like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=144574.0 . I have a thread here too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=141672

I don't really keep a ledger of my escrows as it would eat up too much time to do so, but I generally escrow 2-3 transactions daily.

As for security:

So everyone's asking me how I store escrow funds - I store them in Offline Armory with the seed backed up in encrypted paper wallets in multiple places including but not limited to a bank vault and lawyer's safe.

As always, please do your homework before choosing an escrow (or even sending coins in general!), so feel free to do your own research and stuff before choosing to trust me or not.  Smiley

2692  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: laptop died with bitcoins, hard drive intact on: April 08, 2013, 04:36:56 PM
hey people, i feel like i am stuck in some perculiar circumstances here. ive looked around a bit, but i can really only find information to get my bitcoin wallet back if either my hard drive has crashed or re-formatted
essentially, my laptop died, with what seems to be a power supply problem that is quite tedious and costly. the hard drive seems to be intact, however, due to oem windows 7 being installed, i dont think i can boot off the hard drive again
a point in the right drection as to what to do or which instructiosn to follow would be greatly appreciated Cheesy

Easy. Pop the drive into a hdd caddy, and connect via USB to another PC/MAC/whatever. Mount the drive and copy the wallet.dat out. (Google for the location if you don't know)

Bump. The money is now in a new account.

Lots of money these hackers have stolen...I STILL haven't received a reply from customer service about this situation.
There is no way the coins can be reversed or anything, no need asking the CS about this. Bitcoin is irreversible.

2696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: why shouldn't Litecoin be the next bitcoin ? on: April 08, 2013, 02:32:33 PM
Why Litecoin if theres Bitcoin?

As far as i know there aren't really any game breaking differences between those. Or not?

LTC is based on scrypt, a different hashing algorithm which is supposedly truly ASIC/FPGA proof. For now.
Well, it's just that no one wants to develop an ASIC for it yet as it's not that profitable or safe to do so. Also, the confirmations are 4x faster but it is 4x more insecure as compared with Bitcoins. That's essentially the same as in Bitcoins only 3-6 confirmations are needed to ensure that there's essentially no way of reversing the tx, but in Litecoin you'll need 12-24 instead to achieve the same security.

Great to learn that

so, you are saying that Bit coin has advantages over Litecoin, other than just the network effect... I am NOT technically competent to accept or deny that, but I see and respect you as a global / gold member

Having said that,

= how difficult is it to reverse transactions in Lite coin ?
&
= which other crypto coins (other than lite C ) out there are close to bit coin ?

Thanks

CoinCrazy

4x easier to reverse then Bitcoins are. As for any comparable cryptocoins...well there's a lot of em. See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134179.msg1428895#msg1428895
Anyone could create a copy of their own 'coin' by editing some strings in the bitcoin source, so...

Don't get me wrong, I do hold a considerable amount of LTC, but I still stick to BTC at the end of the day.

All you guys doing some cashing in and looking to take a vacation let me review the Carnival Cruise Line - Paradise ship.  With all the issues Carnival have been having the prices are extraordinarly low, so for a few BTUs you can get a week away for your hard work as you miners still work.

Leaving Tampa headed to Grand Cayman and Cozumel.  I'll let you know about our excursions and possibe costs.  Also which places will accept BTUs in the Ports.  (Usually Ports are more current to trends then other places)

Help me get the first Bitcoin starter project funded only 0.5 BTU.

Uh, what on earth is a BTU? Is that a new altcoin?  Huh
