, but I'm more than willing to assume you'll lose a lot of US BTC users and adopters if they think BTC is more or less owned by a Chinese company.

Hang on a minute. AM is a Chinese company? I thought it was a USA based company in mainland USA, but with chinese fabs?

If they ship from china then sctrach all my predicitions because if these USB miners are not sitting in a warehouse in the USA or Europe then they will take a month just to reach the wholesalers even if they ship them today!

I'm now positive not more than a handful of these will be live mining 1st week of June.

BTW, where is AM listed? A USA stock eschange? Small Caps? I just curious if they are paying dividends right now? Because if they are not I would not touch the stock with a bargepole. If BTC/USD price tanks their shares will be toast!

M

Not officially listed anywhere, 3 passthroughs exist , paying dividends every Wednesday, if price tanks not much will happen. IPO at 10$USD per BTC for over 100.000 USD$ , initial IPO-Price 0.1 BTC/Share, initial IPO-Price was paid back completely through dividends after in late march. 18 Th deployed and actively mining.

Current hashrates here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkPdXsQFT-vIdHRVUjQ5Ql9BQWR6OENLMkhyUktUblE#gid=7

There is plans to up the hashrate to 262TH/s in the next 2-3 months, and this has held true so far. We were at 7-8TH not long ago.  Grin

Nah, according to recent blade auctions, packages from friedcat reach all over the world under a week from shipping.

1705  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 07, 2013, 01:17:24 PM
i can't help but wonder if the share price is being effected by the reaction to the whole 1.99 usb miner thing. lot of people were caught of guard by that, to say the least.

USB miners has roughly the same hashing power at a fraction of the size and power usage. If they don't want them, they can stick with their GPUs and all their issues.

I consider this to be wrong.  I have a problem with the usb miners over gpus for a few reasons.

First they encourage power theft  this is bad for asicminer since they built a device that can steal power to make money.  to me this may cause a lot of problems.

Second i purchased a hd7790 for 113 usd  the usb stick is about 220 usd   107 dollars cheaper for the gpu card.

Third  the 7790 pulls 80 watts to hash at 300Mh/s  the usb stick pulls 2.5 watts  so lets say   80 watts difference . this is 2 kwatts a day  New Jersey cost = 32 cents  for 2 kwatts.  This will take about 334 days or 11 months to be 107 dollars.  So the 'free' power of the stick in the usa will not help you for 11 months against the hd7790.

Fourth if bitcoins crash the hd7790 is a working piece of gear with value.

Fifth  if bitcoins do not crash but the network goes to 300Th  you can mine other coins. the usb can not mine other coins.

Sixth  the stick will cost more then 220usd since resellers will charge more to make profit.  Resellers may ask 300 usd.

So frankly The usb stick has lots of downside issues.

It does have upside

1) It will bring in other miners and new people.

2) It is small

I really fear people stealing power with it getting caught and giving bitcoins (asicminer) a black eye

Well, as someone having maintained a GPU farm for a couple of months last time, I can say that having 3GH in the form of USB sticks is vastly preferred over 3GH in GPU's. The heat, frequent maintenance, electricity required (imagine drawing so much power that you flipped the fuse), and the empty space required is a massive upgrade - that's why FPGA's are highly priced despite the lower hash/price ration.

What about escrow? We could use a user with at least 1000 Postings. I will the bitcoin to the escro dude and after I receive the unit the mony goes to you.
What about this User?

...who's the dongster?
...

Heh.  'John the Dong' before he wisely switched to a less juvenile form of self expression.  At least I am pretty sure that is the case.  Right John K.?  Smiley

Embarrassed That's the nick I had since a young age - didn't know where I picked that up though. I swear it had to do with bells.  Tongue

Is now the right time to ask John to call in a favor from Friedcat for all of his (our) valuable service?  Something like getting us to be the first order shipped?

How cool would that be?

If we get everything done (at this rate we're on the right track anyway), I'll drop a PM to friedcat to see what he makes of this. Hopefully we get double-fast shipment.  Grin

1716  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam CNC Pool by carebear on: May 06, 2013, 12:09:53 PM
I dunno, on the one hand he says it isn't his pool, even in the OP, but then reading the thread a little closer it turns out, at the very least, he's being paid by the owner.

I swear it wasn't me I. It was the guy on IRC!!

I just setup his pool for him he had the linux server. He paid me 100 CNC to setup the pool and then he said he'd pay me 25 CNC per hour if I promoted this pool because he doesn't have a forum account.

He has been true to his word for paying me because I requested the CNC upfront.

Sorry guys Sad If I had my own server I would have hosted a pool, but I don't and this seemed like a good idea.

I am also mining on this pool too. Do you know any other ones?

Dumb kid who got suckered by a scammer, or a scammer? I edited the OP a few hours ago to mark it as a scam pool after carebear expressed some...moral ambiguity towards doing it himself (which is what makes me think he's just a dumb kid and not really the scammer behind the pool).

A scammer who's been feeding off clueless people. I've binned the thread and reported to theymos as this is a clear case there. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the guy behind this scam.
1717  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [SCAM] New CNC p2pool released. Very low stales & fast connectivity. on: May 06, 2013, 12:04:49 PM
Reported to theymos for the tag.
1718  Economy / Securities / Re: [WTS] 200 (direct, non-PT) ASICMINER shares - 1.2 BTC per share on: May 06, 2013, 11:25:57 AM
Not to crap on someone's auction, but the exchange PT prices have plummeted the last couple of days, so the starting bid is higher than market price, and the PT to non-PT exchange is now free for all PTs so no differentiation there either. There is also a lot of shares for sale in auctions now and those shares transfered to the market will certainly bring volatility.

I might pick up a few more at a lower price, though, but bidding to pay more than market is not my cup of tea.

Uglux, how about setting the start price lower and maybe sell in smaller batches? Offloading 200 shares in one sale may be best for you, but probably means a buyer will be far more cautious of what a resale will bring in and how the increased number of shares will affect the markets.

Just trying to help... I think AM shares are a great investment, but market timing may not be good for a relatively high starting price.

.b

EDIT: And yes, I know this isn't an auction...

PS: OP forgot to close this thread. The shares are reserved (and should be gone soon).  Wink
1719  Other / Meta / Re: theymos: Consider lowering / adjusting donor/VIP amounts for forum ? on: May 06, 2013, 11:22:35 AM
This has been asked before, I believe the answer is no.  Especially a the forum doesn't need more money.

It should not be cuz the forum doesn't need money but because Theymos said he would never lower it when he collected the money in the first place.

For him to lower it now he would either have to refund everyone who paid donated already or give himself the scammers tag.

Theymos however said something like if the forum at a later date needs more funds he will make new titles that cost less than the current levels.

Mostly true - theymos might create new tags if BTC/USD goes parabolic, but the existing tags' required funds will not be changed.
1720  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: ASICMiner Block Erupter USB group buy (US/Canada) on: May 06, 2013, 11:03:09 AM
first - the price is at least 25% too high. these will be mass-made in only a few months time, probably by the time these are received and reshipped...

second: why would i trust you to re-ship tens of thousands of dollars in hardware, that you could make another 50K on by using yourself for a month....?

um... escrow? and these are supposedly shipping in about 2 weeks...

Just using the word "escrow" doesn't really answer the poster's question.
1. AM gets the BTC
2. Operator gets the hardware
3. Associates (buyers) hope the operator ships their units.

300 * 1.99 = approx  70,000 USD (at the moment).

The escrow agent is holding his identity as a guarantee, yet in reply#95 of this thread the operator tells us his name.  The escrow agent has since not disputed it.  A simple google search tells anybody more than they need to know.

klondike_bar has a real question that hasn't really been answered.  There is a small matter of 70k worth of goods that are not really protected by a damn thing.  I'm not claiming the operator will flee with the goods, but it has been done for a lot less.

My order in this group-buy still stands, but the question needs an answer.

EDIT: - After posting, I saw the operators post with his number et al.  Maybe that will be an answer.  Anyway, I'm sticking with my bid.
I confirm that I have received (via email to my GPG email address) that I received:

1. State driver's license snap belonging to Arklan Uth Oslin.

2. Aklan's self-portrait (via mirror and phone cam) along with his driver's license in hand.

3. Official document mailed and addressed to Arklan, address different from the one in his driver's license but he has given me the explanation on that. I expect to be giving this address to friedcat for the shipping.

4.  Arklan standing in front of his door with the house number in sight clearly. (matching his address above)

5. A digital insurance policy made out to Arklan and the address above.

Some Q&A's on the escrow here (copied from a past group buy I did):
1) Is that contract binding between you and ragingazn628, or is it binding between you and all parties participating in this group buy (Group Buyers)?
It would be binding with all parties involved up to when I submit the order (and the funds) to friedcat. The funds are guaranteed with me up to this point.
Afterwards, it would be between the buyers and Arklan, but please note that my obligation of most of the funds is over once I pass this over to friedcat.(so if friedcat or Arklan fails to ship or anything I'm not in fault although this is very unlikely).

2) What will you do if Arklan keeps the chips for himself?
I would provide all information that I have in hand for this transaction to the public, and probably assist in any litigation/legal enforcement efforts.

3) Do I understand correctly that we (the group buyers) will deliver the full payment to you (John), including Arklan's 1% fee, and you will hold that 1% fee in escrow?
Yes. I will forward the funds to friedcat when the preorder opens, and keep Arklan's fee in escrow. I will ask friedcat to document that I have indeed sent the funds in. (and judging from previous auctions I've done for him, this will be required by him anyway)

4) Have you done anything to verify Arklan's identity and destination shipping address?
See above.

PS: Arklan, please add this to the OP to prevent more questions of the kind coming in. (and this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195052.msg2037964#msg2037964)
