2701  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If AI were to somehow hack into Bitcoin Core on: February 20, 2023, 10:51:09 AM
@tread93, unfortunately, you don't ask questions that have too much to do with reality - because 2-3 days ago you wondered if Satoshi left some kind of hidden entrance, today you think that AI will succeed in somehow harming Bitcoin - even though AI will not be intelligent enough for a long time to even recognize what is in a certain photo, let alone carry out sophisticated attacks on something much more complex.

Here, read something interesting - and solve reCaptcha less because that's how AI becomes smarter Smiley

If you can identify what’s in these images, you’re smarter than AI
2702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anybody know the documentary starring theymos? on: February 20, 2023, 10:33:01 AM
In fact, it is not his real name but the name he uses on the bitcoin.org website, no matter how much you search for it, no information will come up. Because he has hidden all the information from the website. Moreover, it is better not to openly discuss such reputable users like them in the forum.

First, you say that it is impossible to find any information, and then you post a link that leads directly to the identity of the admin? However, I don't think it's such a security problem because @theymos identity has been known for a long time and he never hid it, and long ago he explained his reasons for not wanting to do it.

At some point I might want to take credit for my Bitcoin activities, so I don't want to use a fake name. In fact, I would list Bitcoin Block Explorer on my résumé if I was applying for a relevant job this year, since that's the biggest and most public programming project I've ever done.

Using a non-obvious pseudonym might be a good idea for people who want to be anonymous. It adds some apparent credibility, I think.
2703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Revisiting Bitcoin ATM Data and Current Growth World Wide on: February 20, 2023, 10:04:42 AM
Nothing has changed in terms of the fact that we still have the absolute dominance of North America (US&Canada) over the rest of the world, so all those stories about some kind of unfriendly attitude of the US towards Bitcoin are not justified at all. Not only do they have the largest number of crypto ATMs, but there are also the most powerful companies in the world of cryptocurrencies, and this includes not only trading, but also mining, which according to some data has over 35% share in the US.

If we take into account the ATM number, the fact that it is mostly the most expensive way to buy/sell BTC - then the conclusion is drawn that Americans show a great interest in exactly this way of trading, and that high fees are not a problem for them.
2704  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I asked - Which country is best suited to adopt Bitcoin in 2023? on: February 19, 2023, 04:33:44 PM
Answers provided by AI have no value, they are just some sort of average of answers given by humans on the public segment of the Internet. There is no original though, no conscious effort, no intelligence. Often times if you read carefully what AI produces, it's just nonsense, but it's got to a level where it's grammatically correct, so at first glance it looks impressive.

That's right, AI just has a huge database that is not even up to date and based on that it creates answers like this. Although everyone immediately remembers El Salvador because it is the first country in the world to declare Bitcoin as legal tender, data shows that the rate of real adaptation in that country is even lower than in some other countries that no one else actually mentions.

I don't see any specific country as the "best" in terms of the question posed by the OP, because the whole thing about someone looking at the success and adaptation of Bitcoin in a country through how much a country supports it is not something that should be the most important in the whole approach. Asking permission or legitimacy from politics/state to use Bitcoin is a bit absurd, because not even Satoshi contacted the FED or ECB and asked their opinion - their opinion is known to everyone anyway.
2705  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: February 19, 2023, 04:05:36 PM
The new signature design fits better on phone screen, but still the last part is missing, it shows (ChipMix) and no logo on the right side of the screen, can we make the font size for "reinvented" smaller to fix that?

I confirm that on the mobile Chrome the signature is cut off in the ChipMix part (on the right - more precisely in half of the x) and that the last part is missing - and as far as I remember, this was not the case before.
2706  Economy / Economics / Re: The Return of the Barter Trade at Rural Communities in Nigeria on: February 19, 2023, 03:43:09 PM
From what I read on the forum from members of the Nigerian community, it seems that their authorities are not quite capable of dealing with problems in an efficient and less destructive way for their citizens, although they are constantly trying something, so someone could perhaps say that with time they might learn something on their mistakes. It is a weak consolation for those who suffer because of it, but if you have a political alternative, then as a people you must show the will for change in the next elections.

As for barter trading, I can only say that it still exists in countries that are far more developed than Nigeria, and I have personally witnessed it in the rural areas of my country where people who live from agriculture exchange their products. People used to do this on a much larger scale because they were much more focused on production, but the more the human population moved to big cities, the more they became dependent on money and shops.

Unfortunately, this turned out to be a big problem, because if someone closes banks and ATMs, and if the distribution chains are also disrupted, then we have an angry and dangerous mass of people who are ready for anything.
2707  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 19, 2023, 03:21:53 PM
Nice but I hope they don't actually use printed menus; not for the sake of the planet but for their sanity as they will have to alter their prices quite regularly until Bitcoin becomes the global currency.

As long as the price of BTC goes up and as long as the price of a few thousand or a few tens of thousands of Sastoshi does not seem like much to the buyer, I don't think the owner will worry too much about the menu - but after the price of BTC is double what it is today, I would seriously consider paying 1 salad $20 or more.

An electronic menu in a visible place that would automatically adjust to the BTC price would definitely make more sense.
2708  Other / Meta / Re: Why not force bounties off site? on: February 19, 2023, 03:01:58 PM
The forum administration does not consider it a problem to the extent that it would ban such activity, similar to the position with signature campaigns - therefore banning both is the last option, although I think signature campaigns have a better chance of being banned than bounty. I say this for the reason that signature campaigns have exposure on the entire forum, while bounty campaigns are mostly limited to one board.

Personally, bounty campaigns are more problematic because they enable various scam projects to get a lot of visibility for a very small price, and they often don't pay anything under the pretext that the results didn't satisfy them. Therefore, I would first of all protect beginners who are exposed to what in some cases can be called digital exploitation in such a way that I would prohibit Newbie and Jr.Member ranks from participating in such campaigns at all.

In general, I agree that the administration should not encroach on the freedoms that have existed on this forum since its inception, but it should still adjust them a little.
2709  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin 2008/09-2024 History Paperback/Hardcover Book on: February 19, 2023, 02:17:34 PM
It was a decent move imo. While the hashtags are unrelated, it gives good visibility for the tweet. Don't forget that while you like it or not, a good chunk of people who follow those hashtags could be interested in such books as well.

Maybe they would be interested, but maybe not - because I doubt that people who are mostly deeply immersed in altcoins have the slightest desire to study the history of Bitcoin. If we're going to be honest, for many, the history of Bitcoin only begins at the end of 2017, when Bitcoin actually entered the mainstream.

I can't say for sure, but it seems that I read on the forum a few years ago that someone had a similar idea as the OP, so although I have nothing against people writing books, a good part of the history of Bitcoin is also contained on this forum. In any case, I hope that the book will not promote things that have nothing to do with Bitcoin, as is usually the case nowadays.
2710  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin 2008/09-2024 History Paperback/Hardcover Book on: February 19, 2023, 12:02:05 PM
I will join those who don't understand why their name should be published in your book even if they donate $2? Would these names be in the sense of something like "special thanks to the members of the bitcointalk forum for their support in writing the book", or in some other context? There were definitely members on the forum who are worth mentioning in the book, and there are also those who are active today, and I hope that they will be mentioned without donating anything.

What I also don't like are the hashtags you use in your post, because what does your Bitcoin book have to do with all those altcoins you're indirectly promoting?
2711  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledgner Nano X - Turns off immediately on: February 19, 2023, 11:39:34 AM
I don't know what issues there are with BTC. It syncs fine on my end. But I am also using Electrum when sending bitcoin, so I wouldn't know what's going on with LL on that front.

About ten days ago, I went to check if there might be a new firmware or an update for coin apps, and I noticed that the synchronization was taking an unusually long time, although it did not affect the coin apps updates that I made without problems. A couple of days ago I checked again and the synchronization went through in less than 15 seconds, but I think that these are common problems that have existed since LL existed.
2712  Economy / Economics / Re: Keanu Reeves says Principle behind Cryptocurrency is Amazing on: February 19, 2023, 11:27:48 AM
With FTX the issue was celebrities were being paid quite a bit of money to promote the concept of cryptocurrency/centralized exchanges without having any idea how they operate. They were just happily collecting a check. There isn't anything wrong with sponsorship deals, but perhaps they can be used to mislead the reputability of companies and celebrities owe it to people to exercise caution.

Of course, everyone should (if they care about their reputation) investigate what they are promoting, regardless of how much money someone has offered them for the job. Some people obviously never have enough money and will do anything to earn it even more, and while I was thinking about which other celebrities have participated in the promotion of things related to cryptocurrencies, I also remembered Matt Damon who appeared in a commercial for a CEX approximately 2 years ago. I didn't know the whole thing turned into a fiasco and CEX ended up deleting the ad, but critics say the message it was sending was just wrong.

Here's a good recap that includes the controversial video for those who want to watch it.

I don't see any issue with what Keanu Reeves is saying. He's not supporting a specific project, merely talking about the philosophy of crypto.

The article claims that he participated in his partner's project, that is, that he helped start it - but that is his personal matter and I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
2713  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin be trusted? on: February 18, 2023, 04:19:48 PM
Bitcoin have suffered 2 huge crashes at 2018 and 2021, it's really wrong if you're saying Bitcoin will never crash, I believe we will suffer another crash in the future.

It was much more than just two crashes if we take into account the total time that Bitcoin has existed, although most people were not really interested in what happened 10 years ago. As for trust, it cannot be bought, hired or found in the middle of the street, it must be earned. Some will say that Bitcoin still hasn't earned that trust, and I wouldn't dispute their opinion because it's a personal matter for each individual.

Bitcoin will certainly experience many more bad moments than the next crash, but this is not something that is specific only to Bitcoin - those who trade stocks know that this market can easily lose hundreds of billions of dollars in one day, and yet people still trade stocks.

I would conclude that trust in Bitcoin is much more than its price, no matter how strange it may sound to some.
2714  Other / Meta / Re: Ranking up in Btalk - How does it work? on: February 18, 2023, 03:38:07 PM
Hey I’m just asking some simple questions here, is that okay? You may want to refer to my prior comment for more clarity. Thanks.

Given that you got an answer to your question and that any further discussion is redundant, maybe it would be wise to lock the thread? It is usually something that is logical to do in such cases, but unfortunately it is rare to see that possibility being used. Just don't tell me you didn't know that option existed...
2715  Economy / Economics / Re: Keanu Reeves says Principle behind Cryptocurrency is Amazing on: February 18, 2023, 03:24:07 PM
On a scale of 1 to 10. How intelligent could Keanu Reeves commentary on cryptocurrencies be rated? How would Keanu's intelligence level compare to commentary other celebrities and financial figures have made on bitcoin and crypto over the years?

I have a vague memory when it comes to celebrities and their opinions on cryptocurrencies, but it seems to me that most of them are not very expert when it comes to this topic. I know that some have been mentioned in relation to FTX, as well as that some have invested in various crypto projects, but this is not enough to give ratings and assess the intelligence of the actor in question. It is interesting that Bitcoin was not mentioned (at least as far as the quoted text is concerned), which perhaps best says that everyone wants something new with potential big profits.

Is there hope for celebrities to someday become competent and knowledgeable about things like NFTs, crypto and metaverse on a broad scale? Celebrities tend to be a little isolated from technical details. Is there hope for this type of enthusiasm resulting in a positive experience with the technology?

Being successful in acting does not mean that you have to be above average intelligent or have a university degree, you just have to be good at what you do and you will have a lot of money. Celebrities have their place in the scheme of things, and I don't see why they should become experts in technical matters - because people who have money also have personal financial advisors who deal with technical matters.
2716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Withdrawing Bitcoin off the radar on: February 18, 2023, 03:01:24 PM
Believe me, spending 500EUR banknotes is the smallest issue you're going to face. There are so many ways to exchange it to smaller banknotes including deposit ATMs, bank branches etc.

Impossible. Euro is legal tender in the EU. The only reason they can refuse is because they have no smaller bills handy or some other technical reason. Otherwise, they're breaking the law and you can report them.

Legal tender aside, but each member of the EU has its own rules, so in some places you will even see a sign that clearly shows that you cannot pay with a 500 EUR bill. Today I read an article on a local portal about how a man filled fuel worth 50 EU and tried to pay with a 500 EUR bill, and not only that they did not accept that banknote, but he also experienced considerable inconvenience from the staff - some say that bill is called "Bin Laden" because of the assumption that it facilitated the financing of terrorism and money laundering.

Of course, after the banknote stopped being printed in 2016, it was not established that the financing of terrorism and money laundering had anything to do with banknotes of that value.

2717  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledgner Nano X - Turns off immediately on: February 18, 2023, 12:11:15 PM
**To avoid problems I have already ordered a new ledger which will be delivered to me on Tuesday, and having the recovery phrase I feel calm, also because the addresses with the coins show no movements.

You should have contacted Ledger support, and if the device is still under warranty, they would probably send you a new one even without sending them the old one - we had several examples even on the forum where devices were replaced even if they were not under warranty.

I've had that model for several years and I don't have any problems, although there is obviously a difference in the quality of production a few years ago and 1-2 years ago.
2718  Economy / Services / Re: [SERVICE] SEO directory submission service on: February 18, 2023, 11:58:05 AM
You can see an example of his work in some parts of the forum - he is not an expert, but an ordinary spammer who shills links in all possible ways. In addition, check his trust before anyone thinks of entering into a deal with him.

2719  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Satoshi every created some sort of back door to alter BTC? on: February 18, 2023, 11:50:31 AM
It seems that some people think that Satoshi is such a genius that he might have managed to hide a backdoor in a project that is of course open source and has been public since 2009 and no one has managed to notice it until now Roll Eyes

OP, do you have fears that one day Satoshi will appear, dump his 1 million BTC and ride off into the sunset with a few hundred billion $ or maybe even a trillion?
2720  Economy / Economics / Re: No petrol/diesel car sales by 2035/ Reality or dream? on: February 18, 2023, 11:38:41 AM
There is nothing fantastic about this idea. In Norway, for example, now 4 out of 5 cars sold are electric cars. And from 2025 they plan to completely stop selling private cars with internal combustion engines.
~snip~

Countries like Norway or Sweden are exceptions if we consider other parts of Europe, because they have long since overcome some basic obstacles and due to their natural resources and high standard of living, they can afford to reach some goals much earlier than everyone else. Some data say that in Denmark even 70% of people use bicycles or public transport, and they are not even interested in the state's generous incentives when it comes to buying electric vehicles.

Another important point that we may not have mentioned is that the ban on production vehicles with internal combustion does not mean that everyone will suddenly switch to electric vehicles or some other alternative - all those who own old vehicles should continue to use them as long as they want to - or until the government decided to close all gas stations.
