2721  Economy / Digital goods / Re: BitShop - digital bitcoin shop script [PHP/MYSQL] (v1.0.3) on: December 20, 2014, 12:00:54 AM
The script looks interesting, but the showcase page on bitfreak needs to be updated. 2 links are down.

Website doesn't work any longer?

Quote
The connection has timed out

The server at amifilthyrich.com is taking too long to respond.

Anyway, nobody should be surprised by the results. Very few people have been mining or have spent cash buying BTC. Most people have only been through a few faucets, and all they own is dust.
2723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ukraine bans fiat currency on: December 19, 2014, 11:46:53 PM
Ukrainian's currency is holding its value better than the Russian ruble, and that's something Ukrainians can be proud of!

http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=UAHEUR=X&t=5d&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=

BTC is another matter, and I guess the average Ukrainian has more urgent worries than to deal with it. Sadly.

2724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open bazzar, Uber and Bitcoin on: December 18, 2014, 11:52:45 PM
If a country bans Uber, that would be a great news for freedom. I just can't understand how some people can enjoy this service. It's like having the CIA watching all your moves. Taxis are anonymous and you can pay cash, that's what I like.

Uber has many benefits. One being simplified commuting.
Type in address and they arrive; can even choose a luxury car.

Cab?...need to call, creepy drivers, confusion, expensive, rude, dirty, etc.

Simplified?
You need a smartphone, you need to download an app, you need to register, you need a credit card, then you need to type...

It's easier to call a taxi to me. I don't know if it's more expensive, but I know I always prefer to hire the service of a professional, and nobody records my commuting.

Why are you so concerned about people knowing your whereabouts?
Are you a bulgarian gangster who launders money or?...if so, I understand.

If not, you have no reason to hate uber.  Undecided

I'm just a simple guy who enjoys having a private life, and I want to keep it that way, but I've been questioned by police once because of my political activities, and I don't want this to happen again. The world isn't as free as many would like to believe.
2725  Economy / Services / Re: Up to 0.035 BTC weekly for YOUR SIGNATURE *New rules on: December 18, 2014, 11:51:50 PM
Pretty bad news today.
I was getting 0.01 BTC each week, but that went down to 0.0021!

It could have been nice to receive a message to inform me of the change... I will review what I'm doing with my signature.
You were receiving 0.01 btc each week upfront, isn't it? In this way we have done our obligations, no hype here. And now you have already received 0.0021 for the next week, right? No problem, you may keep this money even if you remove our signature. No return needed. But you may post 15 messages weekly (not so much) to retrieve your previous income. And you may triple it if you want.

OK, I 'll keep on with Bitmixer and I've just updated my signature with the new code.
I support Bitmixer. There alt coins which are truly anonymous but no one uses them, so it's better to stick with BTC.
Still, I would have appreciated to get a message warning me of the change.
2726  Economy / Economics / Re: Sizing and detailing the bitcoin economy by segments on: December 18, 2014, 11:36:04 PM
I'm quite surprised, no one has any idea nor a comment about my subject.
Please, think again about it, I'm sure BTC could gain from information regarding the wealth it creates.
2727  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Ruble drops 12% in one day. on: December 18, 2014, 11:32:56 PM

The Ruble is going down due to the sanctions, so obviously it weakens compared with any currency.

What kind of revolution are you hoping for? You want to see their government replaced by "US approved" oligarch? How would that benefit the average Russian?

How does the actual Russian government help the average Russian?
I was in Greece recently, and there were plenty of Russians who were just like me: they hate their country, and they don't want to go back there. That was before the slide of the currency...

You didn't answer my question. What's the alternative? Right now you have 2 options, either:

1) Putin's team - I don't know whether they're doing a good job making the average Russian happy. But their goal is to keep Russia as relevant force, military and economically strong and independent. Otherwise, their power is diminished. And power is what they all are after (US, China, Russia), not "money, yachts, cars and hoes" as some 12-year old would think (these are goals for some small-town mayors).

2) Pro-western option. Likely some of the oligarchs, like a bigger version of Poroshenko (is Khodorkovsky still on the cards?). They will obviously get a great reception from US and EU, there will be a lots of smiles and handshakes. Russians will be fed with slogans that "We're finally moving towards real democracy, freedom, wealth [white doves flying in the background]". But, by the very definition, their role will be to keep Russia weak, irrelevant and dependent.

So which one's best for the average Russian? Do you see any other, realistic option?

My last time in Russia was 4 years ago, and I'm not familiar with Russian politics, so I can't talk about the options. What I see is that life expectancy is diminishing in Russia and that Russian population is shrinking. Worse than that, the Russian economy is a failure: where are the Russian products outside Russia? Chinese products are everywhere, like hard disks from Thailand, or Korean mobile phones, but Russian products are nowhere. Russian businesses just can't compete.

You should ask the Russians living on the French Riviera or in London what they think of Putin, it's only the poor uneducated peasants who support him.

2728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would people think if I created a Bitcoin jobs board of my own? on: December 18, 2014, 11:44:05 AM
I've thought about it already, and I'm not the only one. The hard part is the marketing to get many job offers. How do you plan to do that?
2729  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: We should develop a world government to make the world a much better place on: December 18, 2014, 11:41:36 AM
Congrats, you've just reinvented communism!

What about the people like me who don't want be in the database? Where is the central server so I can blow it up?

You don't have to be in the database, it's entirely voluntary. There are only benefits to join and no downsides as far as i know. The whole system is based on privacy, so nobody knows if you are in the system or not.

So if you don't want to work on a better world you don't join, it's that simple Smiley

A better world is a place without databases or systems. I live in a better world precisely because I'm no part of any organization.
2730  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Ruble drops 12% in one day. on: December 18, 2014, 11:32:37 AM
This isn't Russia versus the US. The ruble is down towards the Euro and all the world's currencies, even the Polish Zloty! I hope it could kickstart a revolution in Russia, but Russians will probably starve to death not understanding anything.

They haven't bought enough! Sorry to point it out, but it looks like BTC is going down with the ruble.
2734  Economy / Economics / Sizing and detailing the bitcoin economy by segments on: December 17, 2014, 05:10:06 PM
When it comes to a country, we have plenty of economic indicators to tell where the wealth is created. Gross domestic product is usually divided between the agricultural sector, the industrial sector and the service sector. There are many more detailed data regarding industrial classifications and manufacturing activities, and I think bitcoin could benefit if it had something similar.

What are the biggest segments in the bitcoin economy?

There's gambling, there's selling drugs, there's mining and converting it to fiat currencies...

Any idea on how to quantify those activities? And which are the others? Shall we consider writing software as a segment?

2736  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Investment Trust Syndicate Wins 48,000 BTC in US Marshals Auction on: December 14, 2014, 11:37:49 PM

I'm not surprised. Very few people can afford to buy so many bitcoins, and even fewer would be willing to invest so much in it.
2737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Jumps with Microsoft News. [image for sharing] on: December 14, 2014, 11:34:12 PM
This is nice, but frankly I was expecting more. Microsoft is very big news but that only caused a very sudden surge, which lasted less than one day. A bitcoin today is worth less than a week ago.
2738  Economy / Economics / Re: Microsoft beat Google to accepting Bitcoin! on: December 12, 2014, 10:55:00 PM
Sounds great, except that I don't have a Microsoft account, and that I've never bought anything from Microsoft. Anyone knows how many people have a Microsoft account, and how many actually do buy things through that account?

To leave a comment? A comment about what? If you expect a comment about your website, it would have been smart to give a link to it.
2740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you normally trust a Bitcoin ATM? on: December 11, 2014, 10:25:14 PM
Yeah I'd trust a btc ATM, you've got nothing to worry about unless.....

Good pic. I guess I would not use a BTC ATM straight away after seeing it. I'll wait a while till I see some other people using it successfully.
